moveaments by Night2o1, June 21

Today I up and moved from my dad's to my grandma's (I probably mispent half my youth growing up here, hehe). It feels like an enormous weight is off me. Dad and I just weren't getting along very well, along with several other factors making life out there feel crappy. My grandma is awesome, extremely lively, and a little crazy sometimes.. but I hope this turns out as good as it is looking to. And I hope poker goes well heh, at least here I feel much stronger already.

Graph since my epic fail post lol

Gonna start up a blog here by TBB, June 21

Hey all, I've decided to start writing in here regularly. I doubt any of you know who I am, though I've been around LP since its creation. I've just never tried to make a name for myself, and also have only had an off-and-on relationship with poker over the last five years. I'm finally trying to put a little bit more commitment into it, but I'm having a hard time getting myself to spend the time at it. So I'm hoping that keeping up a blog will help me stay dedicated to poker.

I'll also be using this blog as a means of expression a bit as well. I'm a philosophy/psychology major, so I've got a lot of stuff on my mind all the time. Kinda need an outlet to put all of those thoughts. Hopefully it will be interesting. Short bio of myself - I'm 20 years old, just finished first year of college, at home with my parents for the summer, plan on moving out after this next year, and I have no idea what I want to do with my life.

Anyways, a short summary of my poker experiences today - I decided to cut down to 6 tables of 25nl. I'm still in the microstakes and I had moved down to 10nl recently because of an unlucky day/tilt but I am very confident that I am a winner. I usually do mass-multitabling of 6max cash. Anyways, I had a negative session today, and I'm not happy at all with the way I played, however, I'm glad that I did play. I've had such trouble with putting in the time to put in hands that I'm glad to be making progress with that, even if I lost a little cash.

tl;dr version

new blog - trying to get more committed to poker
going to put a lot of my thoughts and stuff on life into blog as well
i hope to be blatantly honest with all of my experiences in poker in life, however much it humbles me

That's about it. I honestly plan to make this interesting. Introductory blog posts never seem too raise too much excitement though, but I'll build that up with each update hopefully. Thanks for reading.

Step it up Barack by k2o4, June 20

Just read a great NYT article talking about the massive failures by Salazar and Obama to prevent this shit with BP because they didn't take enough action to clean up the MMR when they took office. They cleaned up a bit but left plenty of corrupt BS is in place and OK'd BP's plan to drill in the Gulf. Fail. Considering that the alternative is the Republican's who'd rather just not regulate anything (hello to even worse disasters where the oil companies pay nothing back after they rape our asses silly), I still choose the democrats. But just cause the other side sucks more doesn't mean failures like this are acceptable in any way.

Anyway, read the article cause it has lots of stuff in there and is much better written than anything I can do.

PRESIDENT Obama is not known for wild pronouncements, so it was startling to hear him liken the gulf oil spill to 9/11. Alas, this bold analogy, made in an interview with Roger Simon of Politico, proved a misleading trailer for the main event. In the president’s prime-time address a few days later, there was still talk of war, but the ammunition was sanded down to bullet points: “a clean energy future,” “a long-term gulf coast restoration plan” and, that most dreaded of perennials, “a national commission.” Such generic placeholders, unanimated by details or deadlines, are Washingtonese for “The buck stops elsewhere.”

The speech’s pans were inevitable, but in truth it was doomed no matter what the words or how cool or faux angry the performance. The president had it right the first time — this is a 9/11 crisis — and only action will do. The sole sentence that really counted on Tuesday night was his prediction that “in the coming weeks and days, these efforts should capture up to 90 percent of the oil leaking out of the well.” He will be judged on whether that’s true. The sole event that mattered last week was his jawboning of BP for a $20 billion down payment of blood money — to be overseen, appropriately enough, by Kenneth Feinberg of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund.

That action could be a turning point for Obama if he builds on it. And he must. In this 9/11, it’s not just the future of the gulf coast, energy policy or his presidency that’s in jeopardy. What’s also being tarred daily by the gushing oil is the very notion that government can accomplish anything. The current crisis in that faith predates this disaster. In the short history of the Obama White House, two of its most urgent projects, reducing unemployment and pacifying Afghanistan, have yet to yield persuasive results. The dividends on the third, health care reform, won’t be in the mail for years.

New to Liquid Poker! by NeoDestiny, June 20

Hello!

My name is Steven!

I've been a major donk in the past on online poker. Me and my friend wasted tons of money on my account (probably around ~$3k). I took a great interest of poker in the mean time, however, and was able to recoup a fair bit of it in live games.

I've gone on and off again on online poker, and I've come to realize the importance of bankroll management and choosing appropriate tables. ie: depositing $50 and playing $1/$2 NL is just setting myself up for disappointment.

A few days ago I deposited $60 on the stars and started grinding 9 tables of 0.05/0.10 NL and found that it was actually much easier than I anticipated it would be. I've probably spent ~12 hours grinding so far and I've managed to triple my initial deposit.

What tools should I get to help me multi-table? I've seen so much software suggested, and I see a ton of people generating graphs based on play and I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction!

I streamed SC2 when the beta was up on teamliquid and I've been streaming my grinding a bit, too. Maybe someone who knows a lot would be interested in observing and giving me some pointers?

Thanks a lot for any help, guys!

Coaching nl5-nl50 Final by Zalfor, June 20

Hi everyone, I'm trying to formalize and set up a good coaching program for everyone's benefit.

I want to offer coaching for nl5-nl50, but mainly for nl25 and nl50 players struggling to win monies because they have been stuck at the rut where they become rakeback pros or just want to improve so that they can get the guidance they need to beat these games.

My background is that I started poker October 2008, and until January 2010, I never had a coach in poker. I achieved SN status in 2009 and played over 600k hands of poker. I just got my lifetime graph, and it seems that I earned $3000 in poker earnings before 2010 and $13000 in rakeback. So, in essence, before I received coaching, I was a rakeback pro who played 12-16 tables of 6 max and had huge swings and was literally getting nowhere. I would win at like 2 BB/100 for a while and then somehow go on tilt and/or DS and lose it all over and over. My redline was horrible.

I decided to enter a staking-coaching deal starting 2010 and I really wanted to step up my game. I restarted from nl50 and took the grind to go back up from there and my graphs and stats below show that it's been a positive experience. I want to share my experiences, the things I learned from all this and things I continue to learn from poker with my students.

Do you need coaching? Maybe, maybe not. The biggest thing I got from the coaching was not how to play, but rather how to think. I used to go over hands with mikeymoo and talk a lot about hands, but one of the most fundamental problems I had was I didn't approach poker in the right way. Coaching for me really helped me understand where I was approaching the game from the wrong perspectives and how to break down the problems and reach a logical conclusion.

For me, coaching was really helpful and I think it really opened my eyes to playing thinking the right way. As you can see from the results, it's been really effective and I think I can help my students with the same.

As for the charge, I remain adamant that $35/hr and $150/5 hours is a fair price. If you are interested in the coaching but have financial troubles, I guess PM me and we can work something out. I will be taking 4 students max, and if we get 4 students I think we can have group lessons (for much cheaper or free). We will also have a skype chat so we can talk about hands all the time.

The format of my lessons will consist of live-sweating and then hand review. Hand history reviews, database breakdowns and mock-play/live-play will also be included. (Given the needs of the student)

Given my history as a rakeback pro, and my improvement from coaching I think that I have a lot to offer the up and coming players. Also, this is not a jib, I mainly play and am not expecting to turn into a full time or even part time coach. I just want to teach the lessons I think are important to me and pass them down to those who could use it at a cheaper price (I paid a significant amount more than what I am offering).

So, if you are interested shoot me a PM and hopefully you can gain as much from coaching as I have. Thanks for reading through all of this =)

[edit] more hands from PS indicate that I was less of a rakeback pro than I thought, but still a rakeback pro

June '10 is treating me really poorly by exalted, June 20

GF annasky also had a 25 buyin downswing at nl100. Pretty fucking annoying to have the 'family' collectively losing badly.

Calculus 2 final also coming up in a few days, ugh. Definitely bad times right now, but hopefully things will look up soon.

Moving pretty soon, going from Taipei back to Hsinchu, which could turn out for the win, as it's a much larger apartment and we're planning to buy a lot of stuff etc.

Coaching update by Zalfor, June 19

[deleted]

That being said, LP is very critical of coaching in general. I think that's because coaching doesn't help a lot of people. In fact, I was talking this over with my old coach groupies the other day and apparently I'm the only one that got anything out of the coaching deal. My other groupies said that their game got worse because of the coaching (lol), but I still attribute that to them not being as open to it as others. But in general, coaching is not for everyone.

And with that being said, yeah... coaching is still open to anyone who wants it. I'll post graphs later I'm going to e-mail Pstars and FTP to get lifetime graphs.

Stop the Gridlock by k2o4, June 19

I'm getting sick of the Republican political strategy of "Block anything Obama wants, go against anything Obama says, and hope that Obama fails and looks bad so people choose Republicans in the next election." I mean these fuckers aren't even allowing a vote on legislation to remove the $75 million cap for the amount oil companies have to pay when there's a spill. Think about that - when things are good these companies get to take all the profit they can suck out of us, but when they fuck up and spill the oil, we are only allowed to get $75 million out of them... even if they cause 1 billion in damages.

So who gets stuck with the other $925 million? Either the taxpayers get stuck with it as the government helps people, or the poor business owners and workers and families get fucked over... despite doing NOTHING wrong. How can anyone see that and not say that it is total BS? How can any of these republicans really believe that if their oyster company was put out of business because an oil spill destroyed all of their oyster beds, that THEY should have to just lose all their money and move on? How can someone say that the oil company isn't liable and responsible to cover the damages?

Glad to see Obama finally speaking out on this Republican stall tactic directly:
