| | Good day! by locoo, April 11
Finally I seem to be able to win at NL25$ consistently, up 3 buy ins today and yesterday up 1, but I can feel my game has improved, I've arranged a little more my bet sizes and I'm playing much more solid and less hands than before, which is good.
BR : 1200$ (won a tourney)
I will play NL50$ now BUT I will still cash out all of my BR in some days, and I still dunno where to put the 500~700 (hopefully more if I win more on NL50 before cashing out) to take advantage of rakeback / promos etc.
I'm still undecided though since partypoker is so easy (or so they say, and i believe it so far), so any suggestions would be appreciated.

| | More Foolishness by acdawg712, April 11
Since my last post, there's been a massive roller coaster. I almost doubled my br then proceeded to lose about 1/3 of it.
It started with this
http://www.liquidpoker.info/mytlnet/myhand.php?view=item&id=172305 Give me that 260 BB hand
http://www.liquidpoker.info/h/172405 oops committed myself

Right now I stand at 100 available, 13 in play. At least this provides amusement

| | Starcraft > Poker? by JonnyCosMo, April 11
So the past couple days I haven't really been playing. Mainly because I've been talking to a few NL200 regs and we've realized that Mondays and Tuesdays just aren't optimal at the tables since every table is infested with regulars. So, to pass the time I've been playing some Starcraft!! Fun stuff eh? I found this new Abyss Server thing, and have been playing the ladder to kill time. I'm so sick rusty it's pretty sad.
Just played RaiNKhaN 3 games of Zerg vs Protoss and got my ass swept. This picture pretty much sums it up:
http://www.liquidpoker.net/staff/JonnyCosMo/EatingShit.jpg
Yeah I ate shit... So I'm going to be back at the tables tomorrow morning and hope that the games are better.

| | 23 hours - 2 Finals by tilted fish, April 10
Thats right ladies n gents. 2 finals!
One from 8:30am to 11:30 so in like 9 hours and the other from 7pm-10pm.... no joke..fucking SFU
I have locked myself in the house for 2 days trying to study but I have done all kinds of random things... I promised myself I wouldnt play poker and I didnt but spend a good chunk on this site looking at hands... and actually thinking about theory math stuff behind poker...
I had a discussion with some1 about one of the thigns I read in Sklansky book:
You are heads up and cards are dealt between you and opponent.
Your opponent moves all in and tells you he either has AK or AA.
Now I know that there are 6 ways to AA and 16 ways to AK.
so 27% chance he has AA, 73% he has AK.
but this guy was telling me an Ace card is fixed so you either have 3/7 chance of getting AA or 4/7 of chance of geting AK. so (43% of him having AA, 57% AK)
I know his wrong but I couldnt prove him mathematically in time... we were on the bus. but I came up with this, which is alternate way:
The dude was telling me this basically:
Fixed Ace -> (3/7) to get another Ace, (4/7) to get King.
but there is only 4/8 to get Ace dealt and then use that path so divide his % by 2.
and add this
4/8 ways to get this:
K-> and (4/4) ways to get Ace.
So time well spent, next time I see him I can show him whos the king
but why do I do this, I can never cocentrate on school even though I am done for the year after these 2 exams... anyonelse has this syndrome/desease/ whatever you call it.

| | I finally learned how to play poker by AntonChan, April 10
These past few weeks from playing poker again has been a rollercoaster ride. Basically I haven't made any money for a month on 10nl. I couldn't figure it out, until yesterday. Today I tested out my new strategy/way of thinking and after 2k hands (even with a lot of beats) I managed to make 3 buy ins.
The single thing that helped me the most was stoxvideos. After watching it yesterday I finally realized what I was doing wrong. Something else that has helped me was from reading all these poker books. It allowed me to think about the game in the long run rather than immediate profit. I don't make the mistake of betting out 7x the bb with Aces and kings out of position... it's just negative ev. The last thing that I learned, which is the most valuable lesson is aggression. I constantly put pressure on my opponents by raising... I rarely call now... which is what Tom basically kept telling me all this time(though I know that I am making a few mistakes here and there by cbetting into wrong opponents). I know 2k hands is a small sample size, however, after playing these two sessions I can just tell that I'm playing a much more solid game.
Here are some hands where I got beat, and some mistakes I made as well:
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/172015
Cooler number 1...
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/172025
I didn't necessarily put him on the straight but I reasoned to myself. Who would call a raise here? Only a guy with a straight... I think this call was justified, however, I may have lost some value by not min raising (or even pushing for that matter)
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/172029
I actually thought he hit this hand when the king came out... thoughts?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/172036
AA vs AA both deepstacked and he hits his flush. Wow
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/172045
I seriously think I played this hand extremely horribly. I knew I was beat but I couldn't lay it down. The turn bet was horrible as well. I should've checked it and evaluate for the draw... erkk.. I thought to myself. AK beats, me, AJ beats me, no way he's going to play like that w/ AT-. Two pair, etc... I basically make the same mistakes over with my TPTK hands
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/172063
Another bad play. I had put him on AQ but that shouldn't be justified. His range can be anything. AK would've been more correct. Seeing that he bet 1 into 3 dollars I should've called and hope to hit my boat on the river (or even go unimproved with my two pair vs his... most likely ak holding)
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/172285
Personally I think this a good fold just because I'm facing two other players and I'm only holding TPTK. With the action that I'm facing I had a feeling that I was beat on the turn... thoughts?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/172291
I'm posting this hand because I think I played the turn bad. I was giving him odds to call for a flush draw... thoughts?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/172306
I believe I also played this hand terribly. The guy reraised me preflop. I only had a pair of tens. The turn and river bet pretty much gave me enough clues to tell me that the guy isn't bluffing with AK or AQ (and if he did have AK he hit on the river...)

| | Roller Coaster by acdawg712, April 10
Yesterday went pretty well. It started when my shortstacking multitabling NL 25 dropped me from 75 to 30. I then clawed my way back up to 96 doing the same thing.
Today was quite an adventure. I decided to 6 table shortstack 25 on my shitty laptop screen and lost about 50. I shipped 20 to a friend so i wouldn't lose all of it and put the rest on a NL 50 table. It went well.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/mytlnet/myhand.php?view=item&id=172253 Ship it up.
Left that table with 40.
Then went to another table with some donk daniseri. Raised everything with ass and overplayed every hand. He had 100 dollars and blew it all, with about 32 going me.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/mytlnet/myhand.php?view=item&id=172253 good start
http://www.liquidpoker.net/mytlnet/myhand.php?view=item&id=172257 did not mean to bet that much but good thing he is a donk
http://www.liquidpoker.net/mytlnet/myhand.php?view=item&id=172249 i nearly threw my computer after the turn and river.
That's it for now. Have to do a good amount of work for my 2 math classes. More later.

| | omg another decent day by SneakrFreakr, April 10
So I had a pretty decent day and made over $500. I got up pretty late, watched an episode of Rome, ate breakfast etc etc and played some poker. I got outdraw a couple of times and had one awful split pot but I still managed to win 3,5 buyins. Also my flop AF is going down so it's good news. Thanks to it I feel like I've got more control over my game, although I find myself in some tricky spots when I check behind or just call with some hands on the flop. In the evening I was supposed to have a private lesson with Andrew from CR (I won it long time ago). Everything seemed to be set up and ready, he could see my desktop, but Skype wasn't working properly and we were getting disconnected all the time. We tried ventrillo but again - sth was wrong and I couldn't hear his voice. We decided to postpone the lesson and hopefully we'll manage to do it tommorow. I think I can benefit a lot from this lesson as he'll be able to find some major leaks that I probably still have. I decided to play some headsup on UB as I didn't feel like starting a 6max session on Party. I opened 2 NL50 HU tables on UB and after an hour or so I was up $180. Had some interesting hands, made loads of good reads, maybe just one bad call for 40bb but overal I was very happy w/ my play.
Tommorow I've got to finally start preparing for my IELTS exam (yeah I know I said I'd start doing it today but there's always a good excuse to not do it lol) but I'm still going to play loads of poker every day. Also next week my friends are coming back to Manchester from their holidays so I'll probably go out a few times, spend too much money, get drunk as hell and won't remember anything from these nights. Standard.
And here are my stats from today and some hand histories:
http://img295.imageshack.us/img295/9316/1234hf4.jpg
1. Would like to hear some comments on this hand.
2. http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/172218
I dunno. Kinda tough spot. I felt like it's better to fold cause I have to put over $30 to get my $9.5 back. What you think guys?
3. http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/172221
Meh, I always pick up wrong spots for this move. Should've given up when he minraised and I'd save like $70. Villain was pretty aggro so I that that he's making this play with a wide range, most of which he'd fold to a 3bet. As played should I just check/fold on turn?
4. http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/172223
Villain was 35/4/3.5 after 2k hands or so. I don't know him well though, I only had a stat on him that he minraised and min4bet trips on turn in unraised pot. Was kind of worried about K6 and 66 but I thought that his range is wider here (he was quite agressive postflop) and he could easily call w/ AK preflop without 3betting cause his PFR is so small (AA was also a possibility). What you think guys? Should I have been more careful since I had this note on him? Ship it anyway.
5. http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/172225
Likey? Or should I play it differently? Villain was 42/14/1.5 after 150 hands.
6. http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/172226
I love minraising.
7. http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/172227
In this hand villain was a 3betting addict and his stats were 30/26/10 after 100 hands. I had a good image so I thought there's a good chance that my play will work. Likey?
8. http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/172228
That was a pretty weird spot for me. Villain was 32/7.6/1.25. Out of nowhere he openraised to 7bb (he didn't raise like this before) and I had no idea what to think about it. I didn't want to 3bet cause this way I'd put like $22 preflop and then like $30 postflop as a c-bet so I just smooth called on the button. Meh I really don't like this hand. Should I've just checked behind on turn? On the river I don't think I can beat anything except for other AK. All comments appreciated.
9. http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/172232
Ugly split. Villain was a 47/13/3.5 retard.
10. http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/172234
This was like 3rd or 4th time when I 3bet villain but he 4bet me for the first time so I was a bit worried. His stats were 46/14/1 after like 50 hands. I was even more worried when he checked this flop. I thought about betting but he'd prolly call w/ KK and QQ anyway. Turn seemed to be a miracle card but it only made me lose my whole stack. I was like 90% sure that he's got aces but still I couldn't fold it. And I think I wouldn't fold them now as well. Thoughts?
11. http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/172239
Not sure if my play was ok. What you think? Villain was 38/6/2.17 after 80 hands and he instacalled the flop.
12. http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/172241
Standard.
13. http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/172242
Thanks.
----
Ok, time to watch last episode of Rome season 1 and download season 2. Any other tv series you can recommend? I've already watched Prison Break, Heroes, Dexter, Rome and Coupling (UK).

| | Microstakes and Neteller support by TianYuan, April 10
Soooooooooo, inspired by midians microstakes challenge and the fact that neteller once again gave me the run-around, I decided to play some NL2.
Maaaaaaaaan.
NL2 is soooo eaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasy. EDIT: Played a mini-session (had to stop cause I kept disconnecting), 193 hands, 4 tables, +2 buyins, PT BB 44/100 :D
http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/8093/nl2ks6.jpg
The NL10 I think is from a few 1 table sessions I did earlier, maybe some left overs.. surprised at the amount of hands.
I've now called neteller 3 times, first time they tell me to send in a copy of a utility bill - done.
Support person I talked to sounded like she was a native speaker.
Ok, nothing happens for like a week, so I call them again, get some guy who's played starcraft for 10 years, wont go into details but pretty funny. Anyway, he tells me they take 9 days to process this stuff.. Also native speaker.
9 days was thursday last week. SOo, I give them easter weekend too, and call them again today (well yesterday).
This time I get to speak to 2 different people - 1 indian sounding girl who speaks way too fast and on a way too bad phone, she then redirects me to some french sounding girl whose phone volume is apparently set to like 0, bleeeeh.
They say 16 days.
I just realized it's been 16 days already. I'll give them a day or two more, but I really dunno what I'm supposed to do, calling them doesnt seem to be doing me much good.
But since they said 9 business days (and I assume they meant 16 business days as well), I guess I'll make deductions for the easter weekend + the other weekends -_-

| | Bitch & whine & complaint & all that shit by gawdawaful, April 10
I can never run good at the FPP satellites I swear... today I played the 1 table 1500 FPP satellite to Sunday Millions and doubled up on the first hand with AA. I proceeded to lose every race and busted on 6th.
Fucking donk raised A9o UTG 6 handed and proceeded to call a push from BB (me) for a good 70% of his stack against my 77. Flop comes A 9 6, gg me.
Last night I lost money on cash games too. I played bad and ran bad and spewed more jizz than Peter North in a cheap porn flick. Today I want to gamble more, but I have a final tomorrow that I desperately need to cram for. Talk about a dual bad beat. To make matters worse, I need to finish the exam 1hr early to get home in time for the playoff game. Fuck life fuck school fuck me fuck fuck fuck
I'm obviously uncreative the use the only curse word I know umpteen times. But fuck you for having a fucking problem with that.
good luck to you all

| | April 10th, 2007 (16.90) by KingKory, April 10
Today's summary:

Commentary:
Well, my first 500 hands were the very best so far this month. I started on a +3 BI heater, and felt confident that I was finally gonna see some green before the middle of the month. But - as it has the tendency to do - poker dropped me back down to earth with the KK vs. AA hand below. Then I had a HUGE SPEW with AKo, and sort of got a handle on myself after that.
I came out ahead for the session though, with a decent WR so it wasn't a complete waste. If I play +4ptbb for the rest of the month, I'll be stoked to be honest.

| | Running terrible by Steve McNair, April 10
It's only fitting that my first blog entry comes in the midst of a terrible run of cards for me. A little background - I just started playing 200NL full ring in late January 2007. Before that, I was a micro stakes grinder, but I was a complete nit and I really didn't know how to play.
After plugging some initial leaks in my preflop game, I reached a comfort level with in mid-February. I'm still a very tight player but I'm much more aggressive preflop, especially in position. I proceeded to run fairly good for about a month and a half, making $5300 from mid february to late March. That's pennies to most of you but I have a full time job so my poker time is very limited. I was pretty proud to have made that much money playing a few evenings a week.
Fast forward to April, and I'm running like horseshit. Here's how I have run over the last 2 weeks:
http://img267.imageshack.us/img267/7580/ptoo6.png
Obviously there has been some bad play in there, but for the most part I'm just getting raped in the big pots by either coolers or horrible beats. Last night, I played a 1500 hand session, and the biggest net $ I won in a hand was $30! I could not flop even middle pair, and I had about 80% of my continuation bets thereafter called or raised, and the only time I had a hand, everyone either folded immediately or woke up with the nuts.
Certainly this latest run is not the end of the world, since it could be a 10-15 buyin downswing that I've heard stories about. And 13K hands is basically nothing over the course of an entire year or whatever. I think the key is to just keep plodding along and try to make the best decisions at all times. At some point, it's gotta turn around.

| | Everything I touch turns to GOLD by Daut, April 10
I've recently been involved in a few staking deals and one teaching deal. I have a couple live tourney deals, had one online sng deal, loaned a friend who plays donkaments a little money to get him started on cash games and i'm teaching someone PLO.
My two live tourney stakes are in Ari "bodogari" engel and Corwin "mig.com" Mackey.
Ari has played 10 tournaments so far and already made a 63k score as well as a cash in the LAPC.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/staff/Daut/ari.jpg
Mig just started playing in his first live tournaments for me. In his very first one, the $2500 event at the bellagio, he has made the final table and is currently in 6th out of 10. 1st place is 220k.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/staff/Daut/mig.jpg
| | Corwin Mackey raises to $8,000 preflop and Joel Casper makes the call. The flop comes AJ8 and both players check. The turn is the A and they check again. The river comes the Q and Casper bets $10,000. Mackey puts him all in and Casper makes the call. Casper turns over K10 for a straight but Mackey flips up AA for quads. Mackey rakes the pot and eliminates Casper from the tournament. |
So sick.
Earlier this year I was staking rainkhan in sngs. We had a buyout option and he did so well in the first week that he bought out. Since then he has won a few online mtts and has won 5 (yes thats correct) main event seats.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/staff/Daut/rainkhan.jpg
My buddy randallin has been just destroying online mtts (particularly on UB) the past 3 months. However, since he is backed by bax/sheets he cant really play any cash games. So I gave him a few k loan to get him started at 1/2 nl. He beat 1/2 so bad he was up to 2/4 by the 2nd day, and he has since won at least 15 buyins there.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/staff/Daut/randal.jpg
Finally, I'm teaching my buddy Corwin (tecknowledgy on stars) PLO. He's really bright and he picked it up really quick and now hes beating the game at like 19ptbb at 1/2 plo. What a sicko.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/staff/Daut/myth.jpg
As for me, I've been playing well in NL lately. Things turned to shit in PLO though. I lost most of my 60/40s 40/60s and intermittently played like shit and lost all my 20/80s and 10/90s. It really sucks when your gutshots get cracked by sets and AAxx overpair all in on the flop doesnt hold up against the nut straight.
I'm still very confident in my PLO game but im going to take a break from it for a while and maybe play some 3/6 5/10 and 10/20 plo instead of 25/50 until i start playing well again. Maybe I'll ask my student for some lessons cause hes murdering children at 1/2.

| | Its harder than it looks... by tere here, April 09
Today I pretty much failed my tax exam (in my standards). Im praying by some rediculous stroke of luck that I get a B in the exam. But in reality I'm more in the 50-69 range...
So when it was done I was so relieved I went and smoked the cronz at some guys house. Watever, came home about an hour ago and played a session high.
I made some rediculous plays by putting people on ranges. However when I was wrong it cost me alot. I started off jumping up 1 buyins then losingit all slowly. I made a few horrible plays but much less than the times before. Also gotta say the bad beats are a mofo...
Here are some interesting hands that came up...
Aj vs shortstack callin the 3 bet preflop...i dunt know what i wuda done without the A on flop though
AJ vs straight Made a bad read
KK miniraised on turn forgot to all in I missed a chance to push turn thinking I went up against something stronger...I forgot to push all in like I usually intend to
AA 3 barreled shorty all in
QJ vs KT bad read
4 cards to a straight call a bluff only to TIE pot...
AK misses flop after strong reraise...eek expensive
this time KK misses flop after strong reraise...also expensive
Double barrelled the wrong guy
lowest pair
[hand=http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/171766] 99 get screwed on river
Ah5h gets me in trouble
also did this to me
