Limit holdem is shit by Critterer, April 09

Jesus how crap is this game, i accidently signed up for a tournament of it only $6 buyin but still annoying that i only realise after its started its limit and not NL.

What the hell is the point in the game i cant understand it. Cant price people off draws cos they just check call check call, cant get any info on people either cos u can only bet like 200 into a 2000 pot.

fuck limit holdem

Since April 5th by jonyy6788, April 09

Well I played a little bit of NL50 on my busto laptop at home PTless and HUDless and made $150 on Thurs. night.

Didn't play Fri/Sat. since I was at home and enjoying easter.

Last night I played a lot and then this morning/afternoon I played a lot of hands. Have been running mediocre and also making stupid plays as of late. This morning I jumped into a juicy NL200 table and took down $150. <3 euro trash (limp, limp, limp)

Bad day. by DustySwedeDude, April 09

”I’ve got no emotions for anybody else// You better understand// I’m in love with myself// My beautiful self!”

New day, new topic. This time I’d like to talk a bit about negative feelings and such that can fuck stuff up. Today I played a little live, played kinda bad and lost like 70 USD or something. I came home, sat down at the computer and played for 40 minutes or so and ended down more then 600 USD or 3 bi. I think I could’ve saved myself maybe 300 or something of it if I hadn’t been such a payoff wizard and the rest was due to me never hitting anything good and people playing back at me kinda hard. Anyway, I had this stupid feeling all the time and I think it’s a really bad feeling to have when you play poker. It’s something like “ohh shit, he’ll outflop me/call my bluff/bluff me off this”-thingy that basicly translates into “I can’t win, “. I think that I’ll just notice when I get this feeling and just stop playing everytime I feel that it becomes somewhat strong. I’m basicly not playing that good when I feel this, I’m not on my A-game and then I shouldn’t play. Also, I think I know some things that might help me feel better and play better:

1. Work on other, non-poker, areas of my life. I need to be a a better person and improve myself so that less of my precived value of myself comes from my ability to make money while playing cards. Mostly getting in better shape, take my studies more seriosly and such.

2. Trying not to be so result oriented. Look through my biggest losers and winner each session and figure out what I did good/bad.

3. Just stop at once if I feel bad about a session.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/171664 <- I guess I should’ve folded/called down. I’m stupid…

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/171666 <- 2nd biggest loss for the day.

The rest of the hands was just small pots and medium pots where I ended up with 2nd best hands all the time.

Also, I shouldn't complain. I was up 2.4k yesterday. That's 12 buy ins and I've played NL200 just over a week.

sth is changing? by SneakrFreakr, April 09

So today I decided to follow Myth's advice from the comments under my last post (thanks again for this). I was checking or calling more often or the flop, wasn't cbetting all the time. I also changed my preflop strategy. At the beginning of each session I'm playing pretty tight, not raising A7o in CO etc. I felt that I was playing tighter than usually but somehow my stats for today session are higher that usually (I wasn't running good though). I got some beats, won some hands and overally ended up over 2 buyins. I played pretty decent, although I made some mistakes as well (again - medium pots) - nothing serious though, I think.

http://img239.imageshack.us/img239/7744/444rl9.jpg

And some hand histories:

1. http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/171651
First hand at the table. As usually in similar spots - I had no idea how to play it properly but I think my line was ok. Bet the river? How much?

2. http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/171654
No stats, no reads. Good fold or nitty?

3. http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/171656
Should've bet more on turn but I was thinkin that smallish raise might induce a raise. Bettin more would make river shove a pot sized bet.

4. http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/171662
Sexy times.

5. http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/171663
Just shove preflop or callling his 4bet is fine?

6. http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/171667
Checked the turn cause villain was solid and I knew he's folding almost everything that I beat. The way I played it I think I had to call river. Anyone folds it? I was most afraid that he might have AQ

7. http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/171670
Whenever I try to raise flop leads those bastards have a monster.

8. http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/171671
I really wanted to fold this river. And probably should've. What can I beat? Q9? maybe sth like JJ? Call on the flop is ok?

9. http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/171672
What do you think about my line? What do you put him on?

10. http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/171673
What do you think about just calling flop? No stats on villain. Should I've reraised? How much? What do you think about shoving this flop when he raises?

11. http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/171674
Villain was over agro 70/40 donk. Raise more on flop?

That's it - I'll also post 2 or 3 hands in the hand discussion forum cause I don't want to post the results and want to get some more opinions.

That's it for now. I'm gonna talk some poker now, eat and watch "Rome" probably. It's a good tv series - not as entertaining as "Prison Break" and I'm not a history freak or sth but it's pretty interesting. Tommorow I gotta start preparing for my IELTS exam. I want to spend 1-2 hours every day learning and I think it's doable (even though I'm a lazy biatch). Holla

Poker by anon, April 09

First of all hello, i haven't updated my blog for awhile now, but today i feel gloomy and i don't feel like playing so it's time for an update.
Past 3 month:
So around 3 month ago i had around 16K $ on Ultimate bet, everything was great i was running decently around 4bbs/100, i was planning to move up stakes once i receive my rakeback which had to boost my br even more, but then it all started, i started running terrible and lost around 4K on UB, then i cashed out some money and decided to move to partypoker. During that time i had a break of like 1 week, because my cashout from UB took 2.5 weeks (lol) and i had written like 14~ letters to support before i finally got my money. People were telling that partypoker was really soft(which isn't any softer than UB), but once i started playing i ran into another terrible run where i lost few more thousand and i had left like 7K$. Felt really bad lacking of br and not being able to start winning again. I started seaking for leaks, started picking tables with less regulars and tried to avoid tilt and autopiloting, then i was on a long break even period. And since beginning of April i hoped my luck would change. The 1st of April was great: i lost 700$ in the morrning but played whole day and finnished being up 1539$ it was first day during 3 month period where i ran good. During these days i had a lof of free time and decided to dedicate my all time to poker to get back on feet, but sadly whole week i was rollercoastering over 30K hand and today i lost 1K$.
So now i am sitting 8131$ being very dissapointed with my past monthes and not feeling like playing poker.
Apart poker:
So last 3 month poker isn't going well, but since september of 2006 i managed to save 40K litas, which is a bit more than 15K$ for flat. The flat that i want cost 100K$, and it would take ages to save for it, so instead i was planning to buy cheaper flat for 50K$, i planned to take loan before summer and start living on my own with my gf, but now when poker isn't going that good i am not sure about my future plans.
What can i say i feel sad and this post is borring but i am too tired for anything more.
Also i bought new wheels for my car, sorry for the poor photo i don't have any programs on this comp =[

April 9th, 2007 (1.70) by KingKory, April 09

Today's summary:

Commentary:

There's something I'm missing in this game, but I haven't quite figured it out :/

We're getting precariously close to mid-month here, and I feel like I've made ZERO progress. However, contrary to how I may feel, my monthly numbers reassure me that I've in fact made negative progress. So I've got that goin' for me.

50NL by May 1st? Plz.

Anyhow, up $1.70 this morning. I plan on getting it changed out for pennies, and inserting all 170 right up my butt.

Wish me luck.

Writing for myself by Tur0k, April 09

Basically I suck lately. I have tons of learning to my exams, which will decide about my future, but I haven't opened book for weeks. I have argues with my GF who I really love, only because I am stupid idiot and can't solve my problems by myself. And I refuse her help. What a paradox. And I suck at poker too. I can't beat even NL10 decently.

1)I will study. Tough one. My will is ...
2)I will make it right with my GF. Tougher one. It's
really bad at the moment
3)I will get better at poker. The toughest one. Too many
leaks to fix..

Where to begin?
I will start this afternoon and I will do all my homework. Next week I will be as nice as possible to my GF. And I will NOT play poker next week. I want to have time for point 1 and 2. Then I will try to find someone who I can speak about poker with. Yes I am definitely not good at learning by myself.

It really helped me to write it all down. Thank you my blog.

I hate easter, and I really hate donkaments. by sooon2b, April 09

So, today I did the usual easter thing with my family, which was very lame. My dad, his wife, my little brother and I head over to my grandma's for dinner. My aunt, uncle, and 3 younger cousins also came. Needless to say, I was annoyed within 10 minutes of being there. The food was amazing, but still has me feeling pretty shitty. Overall it sucked pretty hard. Now I am kind of tilted and am going to watch the Sentinel with Michael Douglass and Kiefer Sutherland, oh yah, Eva Longoria is in it too, shiiiiip. Anyways, on to the reason why I am tilted.

I did manage to play a decent amount today. I played about 1200 hands of cash today, and profited ~$500. Still stuck from yesterday, but its a start. Nothing too amazing happened in the games, but ill post some hands anyways. Also, I am getting some coaching because I have been playing really bad lately, and think I still have some leaks that need clearing up. More on that at the end of this post.

This hand was pretty bad. Villain here had shown down a minraise bluff about 20 hands earlier in the session, so I figured this was a pretty good spot for me to outbluff him. Big mistake.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?980183

This is just me being the terrible player that I am. Not quite sure what I was thinking when I raised here, except that villain was really bad. Whatever, I suck
http://www.pokerhand.org/?980187

Another lame hand against the same villain as above. Basically just me playing bad again. Pretty sure check/call is the best play here.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?980191

There were a few other hands I played pretty poorly, but nothing too special to post. Now onto the hands I either played well, or sucked out.

This hand is vs AA-Pete-AA, aka huge racist retard. So much history between us, no way I am ever folding here. I nearly cried when the A of spades hit on the river. Good thing Petey boy sucks balls. I got berated after this hand for not being able to fold AA, lol.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?980192

Lol, thanks donks. No explanation needed here.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?980195
http://www.pokerhand.org/?980196

I missed some value here, I think. I did have a note that he floats flops light, so I figured id check turn to induce some river action. I did, but in this particular spot, I might have been able to stack him, oh wells.
http://www.pokerhand.org/?980200

Oops... Im a donk, and was on tilt still...
http://www.pokerhand.org/?980201

Unfortunately, there were no exciting hands today, and for the most part, I played like complete shit. Good thing I ran decent.

http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/9050/apr907ko9.jpg

Ok, now why I am tilted and HATE donkaments. So, tonight I get home after easter dinner, and decide I am going to play the 55k 11r, some 15$ donkament, and 2 20$/180 mans. Well, first 180 man I get 3 outered for stacks about 1.5 hrs into it, gg. I bust the 55k 11r fairly early losing to 88 with QQ aipf, gg there too. I end up accumulating a very nice stack in the 15$ mtt, win some flips, get it in with my big hands and they hold. Then it happens. With about 60 left, I have AK, and 3b a LP raiser all in. He calls with AQ and hits the Q. That cripples me and I bust like 59th I think. Oh well. Now onto why I am really tilted.

In my last 180 man, I got very deep, and ended up final tabling, coming in 6/9. I play extremely well, chip up, get it in with the goods and hold, and am CL from 7 players to 4. Then it happens. I start running bad, the donks are running me over, etc. Not a damn thing I could do. I get it in with AK vs 55 and lose there. That takes me to about 15 bbs. A shortstack ends up busting to the super aggro player who now has 4x myself and the other guy. I was 2nd in chips at this point with about 60k, other guy had 42k. I get it in with QQ vs his 88, he wins obviously. That crippled me, and my AT ended up losing to aggrotards K4s and I bust 3rd. Fuck mtts, I really really hate them. Mainly because I run like shit, but whatever.

So, I was talking to ZBThorton the other day, and he basically called me a pussy ass nit. He told me I should look into some coaching to get myself back on track because I have been sucking and playing overly nitty lately. I decided to listen to him because hes a pretty smart guy. I decided I am going to do sessions with 3 different coaches. The 2 I am certain of so far are BalugaWhale, and carrotsnake. I have yet to decide on the third. I want 3 different views on my game, and hopefully between the 3 of them, they will be able to spot the majority of my leaks. I am fairly optimistic.

I was talking with Baluga today, and he seems like a really cool guy. He wants to use an aggressive approach, and have me taking shots at 2/4 once I make ~ 3k, or have about 8k online. I am totally fine with this considering I will have his guidance. I am hoping to start sessions with him tomorrow. Ill post some updates on how the coaching is going in the future.
JonnyCosmo doesnt think I need any coaching, but I figure it cant hurt.

Speaking of Jonny, today we found an absolutely SICK house that we are really going to try to get for vegas. This place is unreal. I am soooooo pumped now. Heres a link to the house
http://www.vacationrentals.com/vacation-rentals/23922.html
Go on, be jealous. I am really looking forward to spending 3 weeks this summer with the likes of Jonny, SeanNolan, and hopefully Derek. I am also really looking forward to meeting all of these people I have been talking with poker about forever. It should be amazing.

I am in a bit of a dilemma as to what I want to do as far as my online set up for vegas. I will probably end up purchasing the Macbook Pro within a month or 2, but I will definately need a monitor for while I am there. I am thinking I will just buy a 24" and try to get one of the guys there to buy it off me when I am done with it. If not, I suppose I could just ship it back home and turn my current 20's sideways for a pretty baller setup. Unfortunately I dont think anyone at my college next year will think thats "baller". I guess we'll see what happens.

Ok, sorry for the insane long post, off to watch my movie. Trip report to come. Until then, peaaaaaaaace

The Return by acdawg712, April 08

Ironically, I have not played much after starting this blog. Also, I played out of my limits, and lost all but $10. I took a week off and received a transfer of $10 from a friend to play during 2 weekends ago. I finally played 5 AM sunday putting it all on the line at a NL 25 and got 2 outted on the river.

This weekend, I started again and managed to stay within my limits. I was able to turn $10 to $44. There aren't many great hands at NL 5 but here are the big ones that didn't require just blind luck.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/mytlnet/myhand.php?view=item&id=171117 The overbet works.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/mytlnet/myhand.php?view=item&id=171119 Decent hand, lol at river and results

http://www.liquidpoker.net/mytlnet/myhand.php?view=item&id=171230 Pretty sick 1 outer

http://www.liquidpoker.net/mytlnet/myhand.php?view=item&id=171234 crazies

http://www.liquidpoker.net/mytlnet/myhand.php?view=item&id=171355 probably the best hand, not saying much haha.

A limit concept by Floofy, April 08

OK enough retarded entries, i want to discuss a limit concept i recently learned:

Dealt to Floofy [Th 9d]
Uncthemonk: folds
Snowpimp911 joins the table at seat #6
TeeJayOrTJ: folds
unjust: folds
Floofy: raises $10 to $20
BrokenATM: calls $10
*** FLOP *** [Ts 9s 9c]
Floofy: bets $10
BrokenATM: calls $10
*** TURN *** [Ts 9s 9c] 6s
Floofy: checks
BrokenATM: bets $20
Floofy: raises $20 to $40
BrokenATM: calls $20
*** RIVER *** [Ts 9s 9c 6s] 7d
Floofy: bets $20
BrokenATM: calls $20
*** SHOW DOWN ***
Floofy: shows [Th 9d] (a full house, Nines full of Tens)
BrokenATM: mucks hand
Floofy collected $178 from pot

The question: was my opponement right to call down after my turn raise? is he a mad donkey?

If you show this on 2+2, most people will answer "lol ez fold". But my opponement knows me and he knows i am able to sometimes randomly decide im check raising this turn (mainly with straight draws and overcards, 22-44 is also a possiblity). He might even wrongly think im an overaggro donkey who can do this with any two.

Truth is vilian is a regular and seems to be a winner.

Now the question is: what should he have done if he had a doubt about me? (vs lag tards its generally ez call down, vs fishy nits its easy fold)

What i recently realized is that in this spot, the best is to fold it about 30% of the time, and randomlly call down 70%. this way, bluffing cannot be +EV for vilian because he is risking 60$ to win 120$. Making an habit of either folding or calling down in this spot is exploitable and shouldnt be done. (note that this hand isnt the best example because there are many draws. in a similar situation but a very dry board, i would fold it even more in his spot. Again keep in mind good limit players are very agressive and make moves all the time, folding every times is bad)

Smooth Sailing by JonnyCosMo, April 08

Today was a pretty good day. Started off at NL200 this morning while I was waking up and played semi-okay for the most part. Played in both the LP.net events to try and get my ladder points up, but seannolan butt raped me with a flopped two pair w/ AK and I turned two pair w/ KJ. Lame! But I got sweet revenge on him in the heads up tournament where I drew him first round. I proceeded to run like a god and sucked out multiple times to apesmash nolan to oblivion. Unfortunately RaSZi raped me the very next round so I was out of that pretty quickly.

So I grabbed some lunch, and decided to suck it up and play the Sunday Million. Why do I do this to myself? So an hour and 45 minutes later I'm suffering on a short stack, and finally picked up AQ and jam it into KK. Woot! Atleast I made $800ish at NL400 while playing the tournament. I'm running at a "staggering" 8.5 ptbb/100hands at NL400 since I've semi-moved up (I still play a lot of NL200 so, I wont say I've moved up until I start playing NL400 full-time).

Here are some hands:

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/171275 <- K? Moron.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/171284 <- There is still a lot of dead money at NL400. My boy actionDJ stacked him about 30 mins after I did, and the guy left the table and went on lift tilt at NL1000 full ring. LOL...

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/171285 <- Kind of a thin-ish value bet on the river that was right on the border line. I haven't missed a value bet in 2 months btw

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/171286 <- Flopped quads, but I think I could have played this better. The guy was very aggressive thou and insta-folded when I jammed in. I was hoping he might have caught some peice of that board.

Here is my weekend at NL400:

Change! by TalentedTom, April 08

I didn't update in a while because I didn't feel like it, I didn't see the point of posting my results every few day(s). My results are preety consistant so it would be like posting almost morrior images of a prior week.

Instead I will try and post some thoughts and maybe some strategy for you guys. This will be a decent exersise for me because it will also force me to go over what I already know but maybe am not applying or things I forgot about and will re-call as I write. I will also most likley use examples from hands I have played and demonstrate my thoughts/theory in situations.

Note* These will be my thoughts, some of you may disagree make hate posts else where.

So stay tuned in the near future!

NL100 O_o by Fayth, April 08

Well i decided to move down to NL100 after rollercoasting for a while on NL200, actually at first i was playing pretty solid and as i was... winning i got overconfidend and just started playing too loose and making shitload of spews, so anyway i decided to move down do NL100 even tho i'm still rolled for NL200 just so i'd be a bit more comfortable and get a better tighter game

Today was pretty hot ~_~

i want to be better by lil.sis, April 08

another session:

http://img389.imageshack.us/img389/3176/40807dj2.jpg

started out red hot but then things took a turn for the worse; couple of setups (KK vs AA, all-in pf against a short stack AK vs KK)

i still make a lot of mistakes and my variance is way higher than it should be. my winrate, as a result is fucking tiny;
.8 BB/100 over 12K hands... lmao. i really need to reduce my variance.

i discovered something really really disturbing a couple of days ago. I make significantly more money in the cutoff than i do from the button. i'm not sure why this is.

my stats for NL50 6-max: 16.91/13.66/5.96

im trying to make a commitment to myself to play 1K hands a day. either i'll get better or go busto, but i can't be at fucking NL50 forever.

you know what's funny? i've never cashed out. i haven't seen a cent from poker.

i wish arya still played. i could use a good mentor.
