movies: indie/horror/exploitation by Chase, April 23

Ive been watching alot of really fucked up movies lately instead of playing poker.

It started with wierd indie/cult movies like Gummo, the Acid House, Naked Lunch, requiem etc. Spent some time cruising around IMDB.com. Eventually i began to stumble upon alot of crazy, really controversial movies like Cannibal Holocaust, Ichi the Killer or Salo (those are the 3 I have seen so far). For anyone unfamiliar with any of these titles, they are all extremely graphic, many of them banned in most countrys of the world. That being said, I admit they were a bit too extreme for me, and i think I might have dove into these genres a little too quickly: Some of this shit gets under your skin (im not crazy yet though ). This week i want to try and find Irreversible and Men Behind the Sun, then I think im going to take a long break from these kind of movies. I would feel so badly if I changed my morality by watching this wierd shit, and would seek help immediately lol, seriously.

That being said, the thought of watching one particular movie scares the living shit out of me: August Underground Mordem.

Its not so much in that im scared of what I might see; Its more the thought of the feelings of depravity that would come with viewing something that is such pure and raw exploitation, with no artistic merit or signifigance.

heres the imdb page for it:AU:mordem

Something like that is just pornography. Thats a disgusting thing to say, i know. But its a disgusting issue. Its only really quality is how its regarded as the goriest most morbid horror movie ever made.
I dont think I will ever be able to bring myself to watch that one.

Anyway, getting to the whole point of this post: I want reccomendations for indie/cult movies!
Anything unique or original. Maybe something warm after all this darkness and brutality ive been watching!

Cheers!

lame poker goals woohooo by Bytewalker, April 22

OK so i'm gonna start playin more now... my goal will be to cash out $300 a week playing $25NL, all excess to that will just go to pad my bankroll, I have serious debts to pay!

I've played 15K hands since I quit my job two weeks ago and am averaging about $25/hr by 8 tabling, not too bad! $25NL is still insanely soft so fuck higher limits for awhile.

I hate having to cash this much but I'm hoping it will just motivate me to play longer sessions.

Update! So I guess I went on a bit of a heater, almost totally owning my goal in less than 5 hrs

http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/7028/heaterjm8.jpg

Although I know this is a heater, I feel like I've gained a new style since I've come back, which is better suited to $25NL. My standard raise pf is only 3x bb now which I'm doing so with a wider range of hands, and making smaller post-flop bets.

short update by SneakrFreakr, April 22

Haven't played much for the last few days. Went out on Thursday and Friday so didn't have much time. Hangover all the time, trying to study a bit etc. Played like 600 hands on FTP and won a buyin or so. Then won like 250$ on BM network just to drop $400 there today due to some sick setups and beats. But I think I needed such a day cause I was becoming too confident after having like 6 winning sessions in a row. My roll is close to 6k so I'm gonna continue to grind nl100 until my exam (which is on 5th May) and if my roll will be above 6k (preferably about 7k) I'll try to move up to nl200. I'm not sure where am I going to continue playing now. I still have some bonus to clear on FTP but it's lagging as fuck (at least for me) so it's almost impossible to play. I'm trying out a new site and it seems to be ok but the tables are 5handed and I'm having a little trouble adapting, plus the action is much faster (and the damn overlap) but I guess the level of play should compensate for it. I'm missing Party though. So I'll probably try to clear the FTP bonus and get back to Party and play on the new site occasionally as well.

As for the non-poker stuff, as I said before I've been going out a bit recently. On Friday I went to Tiger Tiger which is a nice place during student parties (on regular fridays and saturdays it's ridiculously expensive) and most important - they've got cheap double vodka redbull. But I didn't drink too much and I actually remember the whole party. On Friday I went to some crazy club where every kept asking me if I've got some pills for sale. The music was pretty good though and the girls.. I had no idea that such beauties live in the UK. We left the club at about 4:30 and we couldn't catch any buses se we started walking and 45 mins later I was at home. Woke up about 4pm next day. Studied a bit and didn't play any poker yesterday. Today was pretty boring as well - just studied and played poker.

Tommorow I've gotta move my lazy ass to the city centre to claim my tax return from this year. Then I'll probably try to clear my FTP bonus and study a bit. Hopefully I'll be running better than today:

Vegas Day 1 by JonnyCosMo, April 22

Oh baby... so I arrived in Vegas at around 8:30 last night, and immediate was shipped to Nobu where we ate a lot of fancy Japanese food at a ridiculously expensive price. Daut lost the credit card roulette for that bill, so gg him. Then we went to get some more booz, then we drank, and before you knew it we were in the Sapphire strip club looking at semi-attractive strippers that were getting hotter and hotter as the night wore on.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/staff/JonnyCosMo/WPTVegas1.jpg
[vital]myth, Mango, Daut, Mogen, and Lyric

So after the strip club we find our way to the Wynn thanks to Daut being the only one sober enough to drive Lyric's new car and while walking to get some breakfast some drunk guys came up to Daut, Myth and myself and were like "Dude you guys, I'll give you 20 to 1 to go up there and slap those girl's asses!" as he points ahead to Mango and Mogen. In my drunken state I blurted out "Dude we know those girls!" then I realized how fucking retarded I was because that would have been the easiest hustle of all time. Daut and Myth were like WTF CosMo you are tarded, and insta-banned me from social conversation. I'm such a moron.

So breakfast was pretty much spent talking about mid-stakes regulars on pokerstars. We've come to the conclusion that pretty much everyone sucks except for the good LP regs at these levels. Word. I didn't take that many pics last night but I will def take more. Daut and BodogAri just came in here a few mins ago for their 15 min break and informed us that they are killing their table (they are at the same table). Hopefully they'll get far. I haven't met Nazgul yet! My life is yet to be complete.

Party NL600 + progress update by Joe, April 22

My opinion on Party NL600 game
Just wanted to ask, how other lp players view NL600 on party.

I am asking mainly because to me it seems like the game is getting tougher recently. It seems like it is becoming more and more regular-only game except from weekend evenings / hollydays.

Of course lot of the regulars are still pretty bad, but when I started to play in this game about 7 weeks ago, it was not much of a problem to find 3-4 good tables with at least 1 or 2 real fish (i mean, 60+/10-/1 or something). Now, it is really very difficult to find a table with these players except during weekends. Especially mondays and tuesdays are really bad imo. Also recently, I often see players that are NL1k regs to come down to NL600.

So, is it just me not runnning as hot as i did before or is it a fact, that the game got tougher recently.

And I am not writing this because of a downswing or anything, I am actually still winning in these games, but my recent winrate went a little down (not by a lot, just a bit) and more importantly I have to pay a lot more attention to table selection, because there often are realy awfull tables at times.

Progress update

March
Poker has been kinda nice during the whole month of March - I managed to like double my Bankroll. (I even made more than Saki hehe )

April
Since the beginning of April, I have been strugling a bit -started with a -10k downswing, since then I kept slowly winning my money back and now I am already quite decently up in cash games for the month after a few good days, like 7k or so, which I consider ok, given I have played only about 22k hands.

Tournaments
Finally, I also had a decent tourney success in April - I cashed in 3 tournaments during 1 day for a total of 4.5k net profit (2nd in $55 freezeout, 8th in $33 rebuy, 44th in $100 freezeout 100k gtd).

Future poker plans
I want to continue playing the NL600 game on party till I get really confident against majority of the regulars. Then I will try out NL1000 game and see if it is that much harder or not. It can be within next 3 weeks, but it can take me months, I dunno, I am definately in no hurry to move up.
I also want to refine my tournament skill, so I will probably play more of $50 and $100 frezeouts, maybe even some $200 weekly events here and there.

weekends suck by curtinsea, April 22

so I come to the end of the week with a whimper, busting out of a half-dozen SnGs in a row leading up to Sunday's LP tournaments. I was able to win my first match in the HU tourney, but up against Roald in my second match I don't think I stood a chance. He played pocket fours well and took most of my stack on one hand.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/179248

In the Weekly, I faired no better. I had little to play with and finally busted out. I'm falling behind in ladder points too, dropping to sixth.

I seem to lose back on the weekend all I have gained during the week (often and then some). Just more fish during the week? I dunno I must be the fish

First by fishsticks, April 22

I decided to create a blog so people who are interested can keep up with my poker progress and general life stuff.

I put in my two weeks notice at my job about two weeks ago now, and Friday 4/20/07 was my last day at the 9-5'er. I'm going to be playing cards full time to support myself for the foreseeable future. I have a couple months of living expenses saved up in the event I ran bad early on, and a very supportive girlfriend.

I did have to drain my bankroll, however, to pay off some stuff and get some cash on hand for this. This is leaving me with only like $3k in the roll. So, for the first month, I'm just going to multi NL100 since it's softer and I want to get off to a smooth start with my financial situation.

That's it, I'll try to keep this updated every few days with how I'm doing.

Short update by DustySwedeDude, April 22

I run decently, I’m up a bit over 7k for the month, I don’t play enough online. I’ve played some donkaments live and won a little, but not that much. I’ve got shitloads of schoolwork to do and I’m tired a stuff. Not good. May will be far better. I'm not even sure I'll make 25k hands for the month right now:/

Down $10 of my $50 over 300 hands. Ah, my journey is off to a bad start... with this end quickly with me bleeding away chips until I lose all my money?

Its like I was on tilt these first few hands

Here, are amazing displays of BAD poker. Mostly to remind me what I’m doing wrong:

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/178432
hands like this one where everyone folds to a normal raise made me want widen my raising range...

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/177871
I though it suspicious when he called my pot size flop bet. then he bets into me on the turn.... alarm bells ringing, but then I though hell, this is micro stakes, must just have a king weaker kicker. I've waited so long for a goot hand... IT MUST BE GOOD CAUSE I HAVE WAITED A WHILE. how stupid of me. TPTK beats very little that would play like this here. this is not a tournament. I am a donk.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/178370
guess I should fold to re-raise? is that what a good nit would do?

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/178372
haha, the real money table was alot tighter than I though, but making a move like this = bad? the way to beat other weak-tights is.... like this?
Still, even if this was a good behavior for my table, my bet sizing is just silly.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/178373
vomitus. must have been on tilt to call that flop bet. I’ll fix this in my mind so I don’t do it again.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/178379
horrible spew on Ace rag. Do not look if you have a weak stomach.
hmm… this isn't a good flop to C bet is it >_> <_< >_< TILT!

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/178402
4 straight board, and I have the low end of it... I fold it to a min raise T_T

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/178414
I think... this is not the way to play in a full ring... this hand is important to me.. it’s the way I have been playing in short handed tourneys, and I mustn’t.
Fold on the flop, this is not a good spot.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/178419
I am confused... is this OESD + backdoor flush a call at this limit?
Hmm, I would have to spend about $0.50 + $1.50 (assumed turn bet) to make ~$4 on 35% of the time. So I spend $1.5 to make $1.4 on average... assuming I stack him...
Or say I just called the first bet to see the turn... then at 18% chance of making my straight on the turn I make 0.72 on implied odds... so not a bad call then?

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/178364
I’m happy with the way I played here.

Heh, guess I honestly though it wouldn’t be much different to high stakes play money...
I though the tables would be loose and passive, but there are alot of tight players here.
Also, I think I was nervous playing with really money and on party's annoying software

Right! now I've identified some places to improve on! I'll get back to it with a properly tight game.

Just like walking over a log.
Focus.

Aaaaaaaaaargh by DarkMigore, April 21

Bad day, bad run, wathever, right after a "doing good" post. Think i got overconfident and greedy, resulting in lack of attention in the game.

This bad run stated right after yesterdays posting, so here I am posting again to break the spell.

LP not showing PP hands gave me bad luck.

I will not start all that whining, but it would be a good moment to do it.

Soma hands:
1- http://www.liquidpoker.info/h/178070
don't know if the turn fold was the best thing to do (this after the results), but I would have folded river anyway

2- http://www.liquidpoker.info/h/178553
Don't know if this is a call, still have som problem with thesse hands

3- http://www.liquidpoker.info/h/178562
Ez fold for probable straight?

4- http://www.liquidpoker.info/h/178572
Don't know it is a call PF, but i think I made a good call.

5- http://www.liquidpoker.info/h/178575
Bad call, huge suckout. Obv he had a T.

6- http://www.liquidpoker.info/h/178650
There is a hand like this already... It's about pot odds, I'll check if it is profitable to call here, but a 6 made a possible straight in the board.

7- http://www.liquidpoker.info/h/178714
All day like this...

8- http://www.liquidpoker.info/h/178722
Fold river? Any hitted set beat me.

Going to Vegas! by JonnyCosMo, April 21

That's right boys and girls, leaving tonight at 7:00pm for Vegas. Daut called me last night and informed me that he was with twin-caracas and got me all excited. He's playing the $25,000 event on Sunday so that should be fun to rail. I mainly can't wait for the food at Nobu. Like zomg, Nobu has the best rock shrimp ever. Too bad that place can burn a hole through your wallet. So for the most part today I'm just going to be packing for the trip, maybe get a hair cut, clean up my room, etc...

As for the poker... Wow. Maybe I suck. lol. This month has been pretty brutal, as I was down $2000 to start, then I recovered and was up like $1500, and now I'm down like $3000ish. That's a $4500 downswing just in the past 6 days between NL400 (-$2100) and NL200 (-$2400). It feels kinda sick, nothing is going my way. I posted a list of tough hands in the Hand Discussion for review if you guys wanna check those out. I went through my PT database for the past couple days and I do see some leaks I need to fix. I found some tilt calls, stupid bluffs, and spew plays that have tallied up to around $1500 worth of mistakes that can be worked on, but I'm pretty sure I gotta chalk up the rest to piss poor luck. Hopefully this week at Vegas will clear my mind.

Ok gotta prep myself for the partieessss~ I'll be taking mad pics in Vegas so look out for those~!
