My internet sucks. by wilddamon, July 10

It cuts out every couple of hands or so
Stupid telecom and their "managing" traffic.
And stupid flatmates for downloading crap so that we are being "managed" by telecom for having high traffic rates.

Final offers? by nutshot, July 10

Guys:

Most of you may have seen my blog post from yesterday about being staked. If not, check it out.

Basically, I'm looking for a staker so I can play $11 or $22 180-man SNGs. It would be a deal where I return 35% of all profits (+ buyin) to the staker. It'd also involve a buyout clause where I would ship an extra $100 (plus the owed profits) to the staker if I got to a point where I felt like I was rolled enough to go on my own.

I've got a couple of offers on the table now, but I just wanted to make sure everyone's seen this who might be considering a stake. I'm going to go ahead with something at some point tonight, so post here or PM me if you're interested and we haven't talked.

-Mike

me likey tuesdays too by SneakrFreakr, July 10

Once again I didn't play much today. Why this time? Cause I feel like shit. I can't get over this terrible cough and now I've got a bad headache as well. I felt kinda better in the morning so I played a short HU session which went pretty good. Here are the stats:

http://img175.imageshack.us/img175/2040/hu123rl9.jpg

And some hand histories:

1. http://www.liquidpoker.net/hand/hand.php?hand=228641
Not sure about this one. What do you think? Flop is one of the worst possible but we've been tangling a bit and I've been 3betting frequently. He wasn't getting too much out of line.

2. http://www.liquidpoker.net/hand/hand.php?hand=228648
lolz

3. http://www.liquidpoker.net/hand/hand.php?hand=228650
I was planning on check/raising this flop. Should I rather bet out in these spots?

4. http://www.liquidpoker.net/hand/hand.php?hand=228652
I knew he had nothing on the flop and I was planning on betting or raising turn. Too bad he hit his card. I was thinking about betting river again but I figured that he probably won't fold his ace.

5. http://www.liquidpoker.net/hand/hand.php?hand=228653
lolz ship it

6. http://www.liquidpoker.net/hand/hand.php?hand=228654
EZ

7. http://www.liquidpoker.net/hand/hand.php?hand=228657
Floating OOP went pretty well. I do this thing ultra rarely. If he bet turn I'd check/raise. If he checked behind I was planning on firing most rivers.

That's it I guess. While reviewing my session I noticed that I lose a lot of medium-sized (15-30bb) pots. I'll try to work on it in the next few days.

Hopefully I'll feel better tommorow. I need to start pwning those nl200 6max donks again. Holla

Week in review July 3 to 10 by T8Suited, July 10

It was a good week. Not only I made money, I also played well.

After the July 2/3 debacle I made the following adjustments:
1) Play fewer tables
2) Lower my VPIP from 28-29 to 22-25
3) Bluff less frequently
4) Table-select better -- avoiding regulars.

The result was I made $800+, not including the casino MTT prize of course.

The good:
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/224716 85c Since he has to hesitate before calling my flop AI I knew I had him.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/224717 T8d Sir thought your Ace-high flush is good? Check out my liquidpoker ID!
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/224716 77 Opponent must feel sick about my preflop play.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/225906 75d Never chase a straight draw if your opponent is smart (edit: or dumb?) enough to chase the same card for a higher draw.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/225907 AQ Top-2 was good
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/225909 AQ Impetuous flop push against a donk worked out fine.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/225910 89 Trip 8s vs AA = $$$$$$
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/225912 JJ Screw that Q on the flop I am pot-committed
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/227888 64d 3 pairs are no good
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/227892 TT So you think your gutshot + overcard is worth chasing?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/227893 KQ AI with TP vs horrible players is probably +EV.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/227894 44 Nice check on the flop sir
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/227904 QQ OMG I've got top pair I go all-in
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/228359 44 ditto
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/228360 QQ Had he hit that backdoor flush I would go on perpetual tilt.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/228361 TT A difficult fold for opponent (that he couldn't make)
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/228362 JT Thanks for showing us the correct way to slow-play a set.

The bad:
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/224721 KK PFAI with a luckbox
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/227896 82d Why does poker God reward donkeys for playing AA like this?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/227898 AK I should've stacked IAMADISGRACE again (soon after the 44 hand). What a luck box.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/227897 AA Finally I gave it all back to IAMADISGRACE. I can't move up if I am unable to make obvious river folds. Like this one.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/227900 53h Trip 5s on turn, but against his betting I can't see what I am beating.

This is not even funny by DustySwedeDude, July 10

Ok, so the last two session I'm down 4 bi at NL200. I'm basicly running about as well as I did at NL400 the last few days. I can't fucking win a hand. I know it'll turn around eventually but for now I'll just try to do other things.

Here's some of the hands to give you an idea about how I'm running:

Today:

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/228263 99 vs AQ on T-high flop.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/228264 Turned a set, ohh, wait.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/228265 Probably missplayed.

Yesterday:

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/228267 <- Could've saved some, maybe.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/228268 <-

ok, enough with the crying and such. I'll do something else for a while. Still up 4.3k for the month.

Made a final table by Itzlegend, July 10

13 dollar tournament and actually won it! 1120 in my account now. I'm still going to play 10/25 cent cash game till I can beat that solidly. Crazy month though, in 4 weeks it went from 40 to 1120. It's so surreal.

http://img339.imageshack.us/img339/4243/107sessionkq6.jpg

Insanely good session, people were just throwing money at me! Also I got my platinium star, ship it :D! I think I won't hurry to NL200, I'll grind NL100 for some time and take shots only when I feel extremely confident (skill & bankroll wise). I keep ya updated on my NL100 adventures o_O

Stars is soft by SKoT, July 10

Stars is alot easier than FTP, im running pretty well, and everyone is so awful. I played like a hundred hands or so a day then went on vacation for 5 days so im considering my whole database as July but I actually started playing in June.

Graph:
http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/8237/grapjgt8.jpg

I swung a bit at first and had some decently bad beats/marginal shoves but I think ive adjusted to Stars from FTP. I think I've plugged a few leaks but realize I still have some work to do on my game. Ive made a couple final tables and deep cashes in some donkaments so that has been helping my BR(I started w/ $50 that i transferred from FTP, thanks chibuzo). As long as I run ok and am able to play ~1k hands a day like I am now I'll keep updating my blog w/ shit.

RL: Im working manual labor at a box plant about 56-60 hours a week so I'm actually getting a good amount of muscle and I'm getting paid really well for a summer job so thats all good but I could never see myself working a deadend retard job like this my whole life like some of the people that work there. It must suck so much. I plan to start the fall semester at either the college I went to last year(Minnesota State University) or go to a two year somewhere and get credits.

Good luck LP in the ME

The biggest call of my life by Daut, July 09

This hand happened in a home game we played a few weeks ago. I never got a chance to blog about it, but now i have internet so its about time i put this up in a post.

This post was inspired by captzeebo's post about the biggest pot he ever won. If youve never seen it, i highly suggest checking it out here: http://captzeebo.supok.net/ Click the link from 2006-10-27 titled the biggest pot of my life. Without a doubt the single greatest poker blog post in the history of the internet.

We were playing 7 handed for most of the night in a 1/2 NL game with a 1 dollar ante and 600 buyin. The players were me, chris/genius28, steve/xtbcx on full tilt/youngguyy on stars (hes a 100/200+ limit player), clint/beatifulman, martine23, josh/reddog133, and lyric.

The game was playing very aggressively and a little maniacally, but everyone is playing very well. There is often a straddle and restraddle and sometimes a 3rd straddle forcing even more action than there already was. There had already been a few extremely impressive plays, i.e. josh called 300 all in on the turn with A high and it was good, genius called 2 streets with KQ high on an A high flop and it was good, etc.

We were drinking a bit and having a good time, and the song of the summer, the way i are came on:

we all go a little crazy and decide for this hand we are going to play with a 5 dollar ante instead of 1 dollar. Here is how the hand went down in picture form. the green numbers beside our names is how much money we started the hand with.

MTT Stake? by nutshot, July 09

Gentlemen:

I have recently become basically life-busto due to my Vegas trip, and mainly due to the cash games that I lost a lot of money in out there. I'm clearly not cut out for the cash game life, and I have a lot of learning to do... which brings me to the point of this blog entry.

I'm looking for a MTT-only stake. I would be interested in playing $10 and $20 180-mans on Stars.

Upon returning from Vegas, I had a small amount left in my Stars account... the day I got back, I final tabled a $20/180 and a $30 MTT with 356 runners. Obviously since then, I've busted on Stars, or I wouldn't be posting here.

My MTT results can be found on www.thepokerdb.com (my name on Stars is nutshot2).

My biggest career cash is $5,355 for a 3rd place finish in a $55 freezeout with 1,428 runners. I also cashed $5,328 for a first place finish in a $109 freezeout with 333 runners. Most importantly (clearly), I received LP's Tournament of The Week Performance one of those weeks.

This would be a staking deal with makeup.

Also, PoorUser says he will vouch that I will stick to the deal, as repayment for everything I taught him in a live 50NL game freshman year at college.

PM me if you're interested.

Thanks in advance, all.

-nut

edit: Edited to say I'd only be looking to play $10/$20 180-man tourneys on Stars.

me likey mondays by SneakrFreakr, July 09

So I finally managed to put in some hands today. I played just like 30 mins of HU nl100 on FTP and later on, in the evening like 1,5-2h of nl200 6max on Prima. It went pretty well and I ran good despite losing AA vs K4 allins preflop and trips vs runner runner str8 (guy had no pair no draw on flop). Here are my stats for the session (note river AF in HU session):

http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/327/monvd9.jpg

And finally some hand histories:

1. http://www.liquidpoker.net/hand/hand.php?hand=227913
I know I played it bad but I was kinda wondering what do you think about the best way to proceed on this flop. therock85 was 40/24/1.56 after 80 hands or so (no reads) and the other guy just joined a table an orbit ago but I think I already took like 2 pots from him on the flop. Do you raise the initial bettor? If you just call and get raised do you push over the top or just call? After his raise there is $123 in the pot and we need to put $43 so we're getting almost 3-1 but we beat other flush draws and a 6 or T will help us a lot of the time. Opinions appreciated.

2. http://www.liquidpoker.net/hand/hand.php?hand=227915
I like how I played it. Villain was 40/24/1.6 after 100 hands or so. I didn't know a lot about his 3bet calling range but it was probably any pocket pair, some suited connectors and high Ax type of hands. An ace was actually a pretty good card for me. Since he bet I was like 90% positive that he didn't have an ace. It'd have to be AA, or AhXh and he most likely folds preflop when X
The rest was pretty standard so no need to post it.

As for non-poker stuff I am a bit ill. I've got a terrible cough (connected with my allergy to trees and grass) and I almost can't sleep during night because of it. Plus my throat really hurts while coughing. I'm taking like 5 different medicines prescribed by doctor and it doesn't help at all. Hopefully I'll get over it soon. I also decided to stop smoking until it gets better. I was also considering giving up smoking but it'd be harder than winning wsop main event. Can you imagine anything better, after having a delicious meal, than:

http://iftf.typepad.com/photos/uncategorized/little_boy_smoking.jpg

?

I can't.

Life is good by CrownRoyal, July 09

Haven't been playing as much poker lately, I cashed out the majority of what I had to take a break for a while cause I was just getting bored. I've been drinking with my buddies a lot and for some reason we've also been playing a shitload of nintendo which is suprisingly, really fun. I've been going fishing just about every day, swimming, just all around enjoying the fuck out of summer.

Today I felt like playing some poker, so I registered in 8 $4.40 180 mans. And a $5 and $3 MTT. Things went pretty well to say the least, I busted out of the two big MTT's and made the money on one $4.40, and on my last two $4.40 mans I found myself as a chipleader for the last 100 people or so and I just crushed anyone in my way and won both of them for a cool $432 profit.

Quitting poker. by newbie.cjb, July 09

Sorry guys. I give up. Why did I give up? Some people are extremely unlucky. I wish poker was just the % of the pot you get when you go all in. This isn't the case though.

What's funny I'm actually crying right now that I failed in life. I wish I can pick back myself together it is not easy. I tried so hard to win this game. I failed myself~

GF >>>>>>>> T8suited by T8Suited, July 09

So I was able to convince Arielle to play in a Holdem tourney at a local casino on Friday. She occasionally plays 3+0.4 SNGs on Stars, so she knows how the game is played. However I don't think she was comfortable playing at these stakes ($30+5) -- in fact neither was I.

The thing started @ 7pm. 44 players, 4 tables to begin with, 1500 stacks, 25-25 blinds that doubles for the first 4 levels or so. Top 5 get paid (5-10-15-20-50).

By coincidence we drew the same table. The first hand of the night went like this: UTG limped, UTG+1 limped, UTG+2 limped, I was next and folded QJ. It was apparent quite a few participants had no clue what they were doing. No idea of stack sizes. No ideas of survival. Just limp-calling raises with stuff like Q6s and 97 and A4.

Arielle was doing all right. Neither of us had anything to play with for the first 2 blind levels. When it got to 50-100 she raised to 400 in EP (somebody mumbled "watch out she's playing her first hand of the night"), got a call from a clueless player and then pushed him off the KQ5 flop. Afterwards she said she had AT.

Then it was my turn to get involved as I raised to 400 with AhJc (or Js? can't remember -- didn't matter) in MP and only the same loosie from BB called. I pushed the rest of my stack in (900) on the gorgeous Jh4h2h flop, he folded.

The very next hand I had QQ and open raised to 350. I was reraised by a relatively quiet LP. But the blinds were huge, M was small, and I wasn't about to fold my Queens. I was delighted when he flipped over JJ. Board was 84KKQ -- I won. Although I'd rather not see any face cards come up.

Then Arielle decided to get involved she came over the top of and EP raise and then flopped an Ace with AsJs vs 55. She next raised 6x vs 2 limpers with 66 on the button, got called AI by AhJh in SB and BB who was already AI with T5, folded out the limpers, saw a T-high board and won the significant side pot.

Blinds kept going up fast, however. We tried our best to stay out of trouble. With blinds 200/400 and a 3200 stack I had 99 in the BB facing a LP 4x, over-a-limper raise. I tanked and eventually folded. Good fold? Arielle said yes.

Soon after that I raised to 1200 with AcAh in LP and got a limper to call -- the same guy who I earlier folded my 99 to. Flop was 9c7c2h, and to my delight he called my 1400 AI with AsJs -- I guess he was pot-committed.

Arielle next busted somebody who pushed UTG with AK. She called with KK and the guy couldn't hit an Ace. Thank God he didn't -- coz I mucked the other K, meaning she would be drawing dead.

When final table came there were like 3 huge stacks, while I only had 6 BBs. Arielle was in much more comfortable shape, but she soon doubled up some shortie when she couldn't outdraw his 99 with AdJd. At this stage we just hoped the big stacks would bust the shorties, allowing us to sneak into the money.

Arielle and I each managed to stay afloat by doubling up with JJ vs 99. But the key plays involved the big stacks busting 3 shorties in confrontations such as AhKh vs 63 -- big stack turned the 6. And then a shortie pushed with AQ and couldn't improve against JJ. The bubble burst when another shortie pushed AQ into AdTd only to see the big stack turn the flush.

So I made it into the money, and my tourney shortly ended afterwards when I pushed KJ with 5BB into AA. Arielle was ousted in 4th when she pushed Q5 with 1.5BB into BB who had 99.

I wish I was more aggressive blind-stealing. That was a disappointing ending to an otherwise thrilling evening. For our efforts we received $66 and $132 respectively. We are going to spend that money in Tofino.

Back to online poker. My hand of the week is as follows.
T8suited = God. With my favourite suit to boot:
