Heater at 5NL by Arcias, December 27

So I decided to take a shot at 10NL, being completely under-rolled. I went broke quite some time ago and only recently decided to try again, sticking $10 on to PokerStars to force myself to play the low limits. I ground it up at 2NL up to $30 and decided to take a shot at 10NL at the same time my friend tried to take a shot at 25NL. I failed miserably, tilting and overplaying QT and hitting a top pair with a T.

It's funny how we KNOW what we're doing is wrong but we still do it because we're stupid. My impatience and therefore tilt control is my biggest problem that I'm trying to deal with.

After losing a buy-in (and 1/3 of my BR), I jump into a 5NL game and I immediately go on a sick heater. There was a huge stack sitting with $30 and I took most of it away. He must've been drunk or suicidal or something cause he kept trying to bluff me when I showed a lot of strength. It also doesn't help that being tilted, I was unbluffable. The FIRST two hands I played when I sat down:

I know I missed value on this second hand, on both the turn and river. I suck. The turn is definitely a big mistake. The river, I put him on an A so I didn't want to run up the rake for a chop.

Any way, the heater tops off with me having the nut flush on the turn and a smaller flush pretty much going all-in.

I'm sitting with ~$30 at a 5NL table and I was about to call it a night when I pick up JJ, which I overplay on a monotone board and lose to a turned nut flush. The beats continue as I run into a set, two pair and a rivered flush. I left the table with about $17, which puts me up $2 for the session, which isn't too bad I guess considering how badly I played some hands.

New year, new beginnings and all that fun stuff. I'm sure there'll be a lot of "I'm not gonna tilt this year!" blog posts so I might as well stick mine in there. We'll see how long it lasts.

A little intro for those of you who are still around because you're obviously bored and have nothing else to do but read this

I started getting into poker about a year ago, got the Party bonus, lost it, deposited a couple times like $50, $25 here and there, played limits I shouldn't have, lost it. Played at the casino a couple times and managed to come away a winner most times. There was one night where I dropped $400 to a bunch of coolerish hands. Set over set, flopped straight vs flush, etc. After getting coolered, the tilt kicked in and it seemed the rest of the table knew it which made it worse.

I'm currently studying psychology, doing an internship right now as a research assistant before going back to classes and finishing up my degree next year. I also like to lurk the LP forums while I'm working and marvel at the sickness of some of the people we have in this community.

That's about it, I'll bore everyone again later.

New year up and coming! by kantoiki, December 27

Firstly Merry Xmas everyone and hope everyone got at least something they wanted or liked, I realised on Xmas Eve that it was Christmas the next day and not the day after that. Clever me!
I know I suck so before anyone else states the obvious I'll save you the trouble:

http://www.dennisyang.com/archives/you_suck_sad.jpg

And to those lucky enough to live in areas where shops are always open, well unfortunately 24 hour shopping was the day before Christmas Eve and I missed that leaving me with Christmas Eve and my realisation at 5pm that shops were closing at 6 and like no presents.

Solution? A clever individual by the screen name "Suicide" saved my ass with a reply to my sorrowful situation and for the next hour or so I managed to send off a bunch of Amazon gift vouchers and for $100 a piece well worth it.

Alright enough of my failures at trying to be a normal organised and partially functional human being and onto my attempt to play more poker and my failure once again to do so

So didn't end up playing a whole lot of poker but hey I have spent a lot of time sleeping, eatingm hanging with friends, eating, eating, sleeping and all up just plain enjoying life. Although the flip side of that is maybe I'm not the healthiest person around....

Annnnywayyy 2008 is just around the corner and since this is a poker forum I assume everyone has their new year resolutions in regards to poker so share them.

Mine are pretty simple: Play more, try harder and just try to stay motivated and the later two aren't restricted to just poker. I really do have to start trying harder in university and not treat it like a joke (which at times it may be, but I'm PAYING for this joke so I may as well fricking do well).

As for videos which I've recently enjoyed a friend showed me this video and even though I don't play Halo (I know i have a 360 yet fail to really use it) the nerd in me really appreciated and at the same time felt kind of sad at the effort used to produce this brain cell destroying masterpiece:

Anyway continuing on along the same line a video from TF 2 (team fortress 2) where instead of a guy wasting his time producing a really mind numbingly cool way to suicide its a bunch of guys pissing other players off other players awesome! haha

And for those who have played Guitar Hero this is a review which I found hilarious:

Oh and finally, Happy upcoming new year everyone wherever you may be or doing and I wish you the best for 2008 and hope we all recieve burning hot luckboxes

Epic downswing by twotimesopt, December 27

-15 buy-ins the past few days. Sweet. Games don't even seem very hard, a few good regulars but meh. I finally won a big pot earlier...(this is the reason I am -15 BI instead of -17)

I would just like to add that NeillyJQ is sweet. Few things on teh.internetz0rz are as entertaining as he. Cheers mates.

Alright seriously now by NeillyJQ, December 27

Disciplined grinding, no shots, no hu, no nothing other than NL2 mass multitabling and getting my game back together, and getting off tilt of losing 7k after winning it.

I've learned a shit ton, and fucked up a shit ton, but I'm not phased, I'm working up the cashgame ladder much deeper this time and following through with my word.

Good luck everyone,
Ryan

E-Peen smashed by 400NL by gawdawaful, December 26

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/530799747530d3d75a21dbb5d130f1be.jpg

Gonna play out the month doing 100/200 I guess. I don't feel like I have an edge at all at 400 and I'm just absolutely getting killed by the regs. Theres just not enough fish to pay me to pay the regs

Made one tilt shove tonight, so realistically I could've lost like, a lot less. Also made a silly call + 2 small river suckouts, but all in all, it was just a ton of medium sized pots lost

I'm 18 but i started playing poker since 16 i think

Ive decided to start my grinding on HollywoodPoker (Ongame), I'm registered through pokersavvy so i will receive 900points which is worth $90 on moneybookers, nice!, also i have deposit bonus %100 up to $200($1x6points), i will stay on Hollywood till i get 600points then ill find some new bonus, rakeback

I'm starting with $300 roll and ill grind NL25 mostly shorthanded, also I'm gonna play PLO25 because i have played it a lot on PS with not bad results, I will use PT+PAHUD for Holdem and Omaha

nl5 is funny as hell, average player is like 70/5/0.40
just valuebetting them to death = profit, and they fold wayy too much postflop.

100,000 Hands Played! by k2o4, December 26

Well I started playing NL cash games a little less than 4 months ago after playing Limit full ring for a bit and then 9 and 18 person SNG's for a bit. I had to adjust my game a lot and really only knew how to read boards and do the math. I was pretty bad @ the strategy of it all.

I read that you would know if you were a long term winning player after logging 100,000 hands, because that would give enough time for variance to even out. I didn't realize @ the time that they meant 100,000 hands within a limit... so this achievement doesn't totally apply. But I've passed 100,000 hands and I'm definitely winning, so I feel like I definitely can beat the micro-stakes. Now it's time to see if I can keep climbing up!

http://www.smiteam.net/uploads/3773General-12-26-07-All.jpg

Thanks to all of LP for the support, advice and encouragement. Big thanks to sMi and all my buddies there who have made poker fun and given me in depth advice on hands and strategy when I couldn't find anyone willing to talk to me. <3

Also, things are going better in NL100 and I am hopeful that I won't have to move back down to NL50 again. We'll see how that goes! The great thing is that I am finally able to 4 table and be fully absorbed because there's so much more thinking going on. At the lower levels I had to add lot's of tables to keep myself from being bored. This is so much more fun now =)

A Nits Holidays by SugoGosu, December 26

Alright, so Xmas went alright, this is what happened.

Woke up at about 9:00 am and stretched and realized it was christmas. oh shit I thought, as I remembered I didn't wrap the presents I bought my family.

My mom: AutoBiography of Santa Clause $12.25
My dad: The Bourne Ultimatum $19.95
My sister: $20 gift card to star bucks
My little Brother: The Orange Box for PC $29.99 (1/2 discount cuz my friend works at gamestop)
My older sister: Skull Candy Headphones $29.99

Total Money spent on gifts: $92.18

So I quickly wrap the presents in used wrapping paper, and log onto Pokerstars. Current Bankroll: $199.90 So I load up my 9 NL5 tables and donk it out for 30 minutes when I run like god and hit $237.15 So I take a shower and head downstairs, eat some eggs/ham that my mom made for the holiday.

We exchange gifts and I get: Nikon P5100 camera, Super Mario Galaxy, Microsoft Zune 80 gb, and best buy gift certificates totaling ~$100.

I get back onto Pokerstars and play for 2k hands and run like shit, only making four dollars. w/e still up for the day, its good.

I watch some old movie on HBO and fall asleep. Great xmas.

So today, I log onto pokerstars at about 11:30 am to try my game at NL10. down $8 in 50 hands. sick. I get my haircut and come back to realize my last check from my old job (I quit 2 months ago).

+$720

I log onto SC to play some games on ICCUP and donk out a few kids with my zerg (my worst race ever). Up 11-2 with my Z. sick.

In the middle of my last game TvP vs NaigelZZZ (or somethin) and my mouse dies. It stops moving. The cursor doesn't move at all. It's dead. fuck. I've had this mouse for 4 years and it just dies. In the middle of a TvP. wtf... So I pause the game, grab some ghetto ball mouse and finish the game for a win. GEE GEE

I go to the bank and cash my check.
PICTURE
http://img201.imageshack.us/img201/6316/ballatj2.png

I attempt to log back into Pokerstars but my keyboard fails. My keyboard is the most ghetto piece of shit you've ever seen. I literally tape the keyboard's cord to stop it from disconnecting every 5 seconds. However, no matter how much tape I add this time, it just won't work.
http://img184.imageshack.us/img184/5373/keyboardey9.png

So I grab my old ghetto compaq keyboard from 1990's and plug it in to type this up. Tomorrow I'm going to go to bestbuy and buy a new mouse and a new keyboard. Maybe some speakers too, because they're dying too. fuck.

BTW I have to give a shout to Kwark for showing the ways of NL2 and NL5 I'd be nowhere and be still with my $18.50 bankroll.

and yeah, this is also a brag psot about my camera. 12.1 megapixels bitch!

6-max was much harder a few months ago by T8Suited, December 26

After 2 sessions of uninspiring full ring play, especially on Tuesday when I loss countless small-medium pots getting trapped by nits, I got back to 6 max today. I had a monstrous day.

Results
Mon late night FR 372 hands 15/8 +$160.15 +21.53 PTBB/100
Tue late night FR 1785 hands 19/10 -$236.95 -6.64 PTBB/100
Wed pm 6-max 861 hands 18/13 +$766.35 +44.50 PTBB/100

FR Hands
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/344252 KK Stacking superfish #1
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/345365 QQ Suboptimal flop, stacking superfish #2

6-max hands. Excellent opponent selection on this day.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/345317 85 Flopped deceptive draw in BB vs fish. Didn't get there, and I decided to give up even though I've shown some strength on earlier streets. He called flop with Q8o. WTF
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/345318 J5 Flop TP turned top-2. Value-towning another loose villain who called with 54 (worse 2-pairs).
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/345323 A4h Probably not a very good semibluff despite my tight image at the table. I probably would've bet any big pair on the flop myself. Non-donk villain thought for a while and called w/ QQ, but I rivered the flush (Th) for his stack.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/345325 KQ Playing TP2K for stacks (villain called w/ KJ). Not sure whether my turn check was good.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/345352 AK Committing myself on flop w/ TPTK against donk
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/345330 AQ Same villain as in the 85 hand. He called down w/ K9o. WTF?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/345327 TT Set against trapper dodging his million outs.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/345331 AKd Good flop. In retrospect I had no idea how to respond if he 3-bet preflop.

I killed Bambi by try, December 26

So I'm driving home through the country from visiting family. It looked like a bum running across the street with cleets on. Then another now I'm close enough to realize its a deer, it looked at me. I couldn't stop, I was going 60mph. I saw my life flash before my eyes..."I was griding pennies"....

To my surprise nothing happened to my car. But my labtop had the connection card in it and it broke it. I have to tape it up and to the left and then to the screen to make it work. Its so ghetto. If it breaks I won't be able to play, I just bought it and I didn't opt for insurance because I make smart decisions like this all the time.

Its really wierd instead of playing 1 session I play like 2-4 small ones that last less then 1 hour.

I just got on with my ghetto card and won 6 buy in's. Still running good, I'm really hoping to hit 50nl by Jan13.
