Deposited $50, now at $100+. Was stuck at $80-90 on fullring nl2 trying to follow grot's guide but nl2FR was just way too nitty. Switched to 6max and it's a lot more aggro, fun and profitable. I'll be staying 6max for good since it involves a lot more thinking.
Goals in poker for the new year: Keep playing and slowly progressing. I play college baseball and compete in olympic weightlifting so i'm fairly busy. Hopefully i'll find time to slowly improve until i have more time in the summer to move up to mid stakes and hone my game. Also, start posting more common situations that give me trouble so I can have others help me evaluate them.
Retarded Final Session of the Yearby JonnyCosMo, December 31
Play good. Run bad. Fail. Tried to squeeze in as many hands as possible this morning before I had to go see my grandma at the hospital (she isn't doing very good at all). Anyways, was up a fair amount and then my roommate sat down at my tables and pretty much decimated my stacks in the most retarded ways...
According to poker office im up $161 on this session but my roll hasnt changed much. I should stop joining tournaments, thats one of my huge leaks at the moment.
Every session i shall analyse my biggest losses and biggest wins.
Three biggest losses today

It seems that playing VERY agg is the key to getting action and moving up stakes. I am actually very tight pre flop, almost always fold to 4x bet when i open raise unless i feel they are playing back at me and it does wonders.
Please comment on some of the more difficult hands
Okay so, after staring at my PS account w/ only 3 pennies in it for like 20 minutes, I went to go play on rednines. I did that for about 20 minutes then drove myself nuts cuz I hate the software. So I was gonna get a stake right, but cuz I have my city written as "chat is banned" on stars .. so people know why I don't respond to them ... they wouldn't send the money. I didn't know any of this at the time, and I am really rambling right now I know, but it's because I just played a 22 hour session so I'm just going to document what happened real quick.
Basically, I needed to get money on stars while I waited for my stake. So I started trying to sell lessons at a discounted price, so I ended up selling 6 hours for 400 bucks. So I took the 400 bucks and immediately loaded up 8 50nl tables. It didn't take long until I had won 10 buy ins, and was ready to move up to 100nl. So I went and 8 tabled 100nl, won 13 buy ins. At this point I'm like ok, time to move up to 200nl ... So I 8 tabled 200nl for a little while, and won roughly 12 buy ins. So I'm like, ok, I'm a little under-rolled but I know I can kill 400nl, so I went and 8 tabled that. I think I ended up coming up roughly 18 buy ins or something at 400. I can hardly see straight at this point otherwise I would keep going. Plus, I ruined my new years eve as I didn't sleep last night and now have zero energy to go out. : [
If only I didn't go busto the other day I wouldn't have had to do this. Anyways, here are the graphs .....
http://img265.imageshack.us/img265/4893/5473pokerpostersro3.jpg
For starters I want to succesfully move up to NL500 (from NL200, new site) and I'd like to play this stake until I manage a 4bb/100 winrate over a significant sample size. Not sure how long I want to stay at NL500 yet, but I'm thinking of being really conservative before I move up to 5/10 (no 2/4 or 3/6 at this site), almost certainly not before I get to 50k, likely more.
Sometime during the year I also want to finally learn heads-up.
Second, I'd like to get a good playing schedule, preferably a set number of hands per month (I'm thinking 50k at least, but I'm not sure how many tables I'll be able to play).
3rd, I really want to get my sleeping schedule straight, start waking up before noon would be a nice start (actually waking up before 6 PM would be a step up for me right now :D).
http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/8047/90484773za7.png
I also want to get back to training MMA, maybe I'll get a seasons pass (or whatever you want to call it, basically means I can go to any of their classes for the entire spring season). I guess I'll go to as many grappling classes I can since I like that much more than the standup part.
http://img120.imageshack.us/img120/9677/200pxgoboardof6.jpg
Lastly, I want to start learning Go again, perhaps join the local go club. I completely stopped learning the game around the time I picked up poker, which is too bad since it's a fun game.
So, hope you all had a nice 2007, and that your 2008 will be even better.
Year in Review/New Year's Resolutionsby acdawg712, December 31
This year was my best in poker. I used to be a fish and now i know that. I probably made around $1000 this year and that is a lot to me. I was able to pay for some vacations and a lot things that i wanted.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/181537 - most satisfying hand of the year. This hand had a humongous suckout on me in my shot at NL50. I won it all back and more. Why i would call a raise with A9o is odd to me, but whatever.
I'm making the standard resolutions that never make more than a month.
1. Work out more. I'm pretty skinny, but I'm not in great shape and I'm not very strong. I was doing ok earlier this school year, but then my workout partner stopped working out and I don't want to walk 15 minutes in the freezing Michigan cold.
2. Get better grades. I go to University of Michigan and am majoring in Actuarial Mathematics. It's hard. But that doesn't mean i should get a 2.9 and 2.6 in my first 2 semesters. I got a 3.1 this semester and I was lucky to get that. The teachers appreciate effort and will help you out at the end if you show that you care about the class.
3. Pass Exam FM/2 To be an actuary, you have to pass exams in order to get jobs. I already passed the first as a freshman, which is pretty good. If i pass this one, it'll look great to companies.
4. Get with girls? I'm pretty bad with girls, so I have improve that, not much else to say.
5. Spend less money/eat better- this going hand in hand since i just randomly waste money on late night/unneccessaryily expensive food.
In poker, i don't have any specific goals besides continue to get better. Sometimes you feel in that zone and you bascially just play the best you can. I want to get into and refine that "zone".
Played a bit today, I've been 12 tabling 25nl FR for a lot of success so I'm keeping at it. Played like 2.5k hands and won roughly 5 buyins. Ran kinda bad for a little while but hit anice 2 outer for a 2 buyin pot KK vs AA all in pre and K spiked. Hopefully I keep having these good days and I move up to 50nl real soon.
Why not add some goals for 2008 as well.
1) Keep roll growing and maintain good bankroll management so I can comortably be playing 2/4 by years end. We'll see how this goals turns out.
2) Get my ass in gear with my workouts, I plan on starting this week. Got a few closed tryouts coming up and I gotta be in awesome shape for them. Hoping to get my velo up so I'm consistently 87-88mph so here's hoping.
3) I wanna travel some more possibly get to southeast asia or australia. I'll be going to Europe for a week in March so that will also be fun.
4) Move to CO and work at a ski resort for the winter so I can ski everyday, this of course means I'm not assuming to be baller playing 2/4 so I won't need a job out there.
I just decided to create a blog on here because it looked like a fun idea. I've never done one before, but it seems interesting. I'm gonna throw up some goals for 2008 since that is what all the cool kids are doing.
Goal #1- Get down to 185 lbs. I started a diet this last week and it is killing me so far, but I have only cheated a couple of times so we will see where this goes. I am currently at 210.
Goal #2- Not go broke playing poker. I want to get really good at poker and start being very serious about it. I turn 21 in a couple of weeks and plan on frequenting the nearby casino to play 1/2. I also want to build my online roll to a comfortable level so I can play like .5/1. I know this is low by some standards but I am like Neilly in BR management. I get up and then become masterdonk and give it all away to the good LPers.
Goal #3- make a 3.5 next semester. I am currently a junior and in accounting which is killing me. My grades sucked last semester, but I have a 3.25 cumulative. I need to get that up to around a 3.4 before I graduate, so we will see what happens.
Also I want to get better self disciplined in all aspects of life, and not just poker. I know how to play poker and when to do the right stuff, the problem is that I am a very sporadic person and like to flat out gamble way too much.
Well that's all for the first blog. Hopefully there will be many more to come in the New Year, but we will see.
2007 poker review + graphsby Forrest Gump, December 31
Since I played in lot of sites, I had to do the graph in excel where I keep registry of my daily winnings
I played lot of donkaments, NL100 and PLO25, PLO50 untill the end of july when I figured how to beat the NL100 games for a good winrate (+9BB/100). August and September was BR building at NL100 and then started to play NL200 untill today with a good winrate (+8BB/100). Now I play some NL400 if the tables are good
'08 New Years Resolutionsby JonnyCosMo, December 31
I don't really make goals for myself... not a very goal oriented / driven kind of guy, so that is something I want to change for the New Year. There are a few things un-poker related that I want to get out there and achieve:
Staying Single! (With very rare exceptions) No I'm not gay. I'm all about getting some ass when I can get it, but ever since my last relationship (which lasted almost 3 years) I've been on a mission to not get into a relationship. Basically, for a poker player, it can never be good. Relationships are very -EV for the obvious reasons that they are time consuming to keep up, and very costly to your wallet (no matter how much you want to admit it). The exception to this rule would be if I could nail someone has hot as Jessica Alba (which would be worth all the time / money in the world) and she tells me something absurd like "You won't get laid unless we are dating." Either that or I find someone that truly understands and accepts the fact that I really don't have time for her. Besides, living the single life is so... FREE!!!
Improving My Blog - When I went to Vegas in December I told Zimba how many hits I get on my blog, and he told me he got more. Obv this put me on sick tilt. Totally unacceptable that a manager from Cardrunners somehow gets more hits on his blog than me. He doesn't even play that much poker! How can his life be more interesting to read than mine! Oh the injustice! So this upcoming year I'm going to dedicate a little more time in keeping my blog somewhat more updated, in an effort to get more hits than Zimba's blog. Btw, for those of you who read Zimba's blog, stop it!
Staying In Shape - I was 1st team All-American in high school for swimming my junior and senior year. If I got into a pool right now to swim more than 8 laps I'm going to be breathing hard. When my best friend came down to San Diego to visit a couple weeks ago, we worked out in the gym and rode the bike for 30 mins. 30 minute bike ride = CosMo Cardio Death. What's wrong with me? I use to be so into working out, but recently I've totally fallen out of it. With that said, I'm probably more fit than 95% of poker players in general anyways but that really isn't saying too much. I use to think I'd get my exercise by going to the beach, but when I went to the beach this semester all I did was... tan and sleep. Not really active eh? My apartment complex even has it's own private gym and 25 yard lap pool which is a 1 min walk away from my room. I need to start taking advantage of this. So, keeping with my tradition of setting the bar low: I'm going to work out a whopping 3 times a week minimum, for at least an hour each time.
Being More Organized - Holy shit I'm the most unorganized person in the world. Marshall28 can attest to this. I basically don't realize I have to do things until the last minute. This carries over to a lot of my school work and makes studying a lot harder than it needs to be. Not really sure how to improve on this, but it's definitely something I want to improve.
Learning to Cook - This was inspired by [vital]Myth. For those of you who don't know, not only is [vital]Myth our resident super genius at hand discussions, he's also a 5-star chef. This kid can fucking cook. While helping him move in, at least half the boxes we put into his new apartment were cooking supplies / kitchen appliances. And since Myth and FrinkX live no more than a 3 minute drive away, I try and make it over for dinner as much as possible because Myth seriously cooks some of the most fantastic food ever. This past semester I've been pretty much living off of a combination of Quizno's, Rubio's, Panda Express, Subway, Sombrero's, Oggi's Pizza, and Pat & Oscar's for the most part since I cannot cook shit. I'm pretty much sick of all the food I get from around my area... time to start cooking for myself! A couple of my good friends back home have given me a few simple starter recipes that I'm going to try out when I get back to SD. Who knows... I'm asian... I might be the next Iron Chef. Sup?
Traveling - Maybe not during the semester, but definitely over the summer I want to travel to somewhere interesting. I'm not exactly sure where or what I'm going to do, but I have the time and money and I heard that I need to travel so... let's go! I'm going to Hawaii for my friend's graduation. Other places could be Europe? Japan? I heard you can get a 10 cent hooker in Thailand, maybe I should go there?
As for poker related goals... I don't really know yet. Haven't thought of anything creative. I find that it's hard to make realistic goals in poker since there is just so much variance. I guess I can set a goal to play more... I don't know yet. I'll make another post when I figure that out
2007 was a constant up and down in life >_<
It simply happend too much things to mention them but it really was a rollercoaster concering almost all important things in Life.
University , Girls , Money , Health , Sport success , Friends
Pokerwise there was no difference.
I learned a lot though.
I started poker in November 2006 after a RL friend with whom i study at University told me he s a poker maniac.
I dl a Programm ( maybe it was World series of Poker championship or whatever) where u could play Tournaments vs Esfandiari
and some others.
I learned the basic rules and then started to play Limit 0.10/0.20 cent on Party poker with the Pokerstrategy bonus.
I cleared it in till january and i made + 200$ ( bonus of 150$ included ^^)
Then i made a big mistake ( or lets call it bad choice)
I read about SNGS in the stupid Pokerstrategy forums all the time ...
Everybody was like : SNGS are the NUTZ -> easy money full of fish and bla bla
everbody at Pokerstrategy forums seemed to be a longterm winner at SNGS and claimed that it is totally superior to cashgame.
I started to play my first SNGS ... and i got addicted to that shit T_T
I wasted Februar to August playing mainly sngs .... and Mtts at different sites like Party,FullTilt , EverestPoker and Pokerstars ...
I didnt make any mentionable profits ...
I just run bad forever and SNGS are almost completely luck dependend anyways ...
Unfortunately I needed a fucking long time to understand this
September i finally returned to cashgame and destroyed Nl 10
I moved up to Nl25 and run pretty decend and played kinda okay ...
I finished the month with + 251 $ on Nl25 in about 20 K hands.
I was close to Nl50 bankroll overall but then i hit an ugly Downswing on Nl25 just before i moved up to Nl50
-> and started to mega Tilt
image is what i "tilted" away in like 4 days ...
not that i spew preflop ... i Justed played AA KK QQ etc till the river no matter the board...
my bankroll was like 400$ after that shit
I donked another 250$ away at Hu SNGS on Party and Stars ....
And transferred the remaining final 150$ to Ipoker on 16th October to play Nl10
Again i destroyed Nl10 pretty easily and just after a few days i was back at Nl20
I destoryed Nl20 for the first 2 weeks and i was looking forward to NL50 again in like mid November
Then same thing that happend on Party ... i got a brutal Downswing just before reaching NL50 and lost like 300$ in just a week playing Nl20 -> then megatilt and i lost the rest but 11$ on 30$ and 50$ HU sngs ^^
Yeha Tilt control ...
Good thing is i got known to Bongky <3 at this time ( we both played Nl20 and sat at the same table one time) and we talk alot about poker and Life on MSN and i think it really helps to know someone you could talk about all that poker stuff and who is in kinda a similar situation than u .(Limits he plays pokerwise i mean)
It keeps u motivated and more focused.
I also got known to Deadman <3 whom i respect a lot.
I think he has some good potential since he has the things besides the pure card game skill that many others lack ( Iron discipline and willpower)
I was to quit Poker at that time beginning of september and just play a view HU sngs ( 1$) and Nl10 cashgame for fun.
this was beginning of December 2007
didnt go too well since i quickly started to play SNGS again and lost all ...
last 11$ i lost to bongky HU in flips
Then i had a long process of thinking about my goals in Life and shit ...
I deposited 150$ on Pokerstars in mid december13th and started to play Nl10 again.
Only difference this time = I banned myself from SNGS lifetime ! ( tournemants and FPPs are allowed but no money involved SNGS)
I started to grind out Nl10 and talked a lot to bongky on msn.
As always i destroyed Nl10 again ....
Now i am here with 403$ and ready to play Nl25 ( moving down as soon as i lose 2 buy ins )
Havent touched any SNGS yet and i am pretty sure never do again in my life. Havent visited the stupid Pokerstrategy site either
Well as u can see 2007 was pretty marginal Pokerwise for me.
But i am confident for 2008.
And i still feel i learned a lot and my life profits greatly from Poker ...
I have so many friends working their ass of in shitty part time jobs besides university for 400€ / month ...
Even though i fucked 2007 pretty much up pokerwise
Its still one of the best things that could have happend to my life
Decided to finally make a blog since everyone else has one.
Genesis - (Skip my intro if you want)
Anyways to start things off I began playing poker in summer of 05' and at the time it was for just fun and to get a high. The first time I saw poker was when I saw my dad(fish) play online. Being the degenerate I am I decided to sneak into his account to play since he had the save password feature. This was dumb but I just loved the game. I won like 400 and he didn't even realize I went into his account or question the extra money (obv). Next day I came back for more and then ended up losing it all back and surprisingly he came home and gave me an ear full. He lectured me for like 1 hour and made me promise not to play anymore (lol). I say sorry and ok.
I eventually become old enough to get my own debit card and the first thing I did with it was deposit $500 into my own account and became quickly addicted again which eventually lead me to depositing my life savings which was around 3k. I was so caught up I didn't realize how much money I lost till I had no more. I was donking the nl200 tables and lost it all 500 at a time. With my last 3 hundred or so I did a do or die with the 55 turbos and ran it back to like 1.5k, which became my new BR. If I had lost I probably would have never played online poker again. Anyways I didn't so I continued playing but a lot more Nitty to avoid going bust again. I then saw a friend I use to play SC with at the tables and I recognized his name we chatted and he told me of LP and now I'm here two and half years later.
Present - I now play 1/2 - 5/10 depending on my mood. I play no where as much as I use to when I started playing mainly because I think I just got burnt out from grinding for 2 years. I'm making this blog for a lot of reasons but one of them is for motivation so I could start playing more in the year 2008.
Goals - I am still going to school so my goal with that is not to quit and be able to finish it and get my degree in business. However, I want to spend as much time as I can when I'm not studying to play poker.
For poker, hopefully stars comes out with some new bonuses for the new year or something because I'm really aiming for supernova elite next year. I use to be able to play 120k hands a month of 2/4 before and I think if I am motivated enough I can do it again. If I don't become a grinding machine I should definitely be taking shots at higher stakes so I can put something up in the baller graph thread next year. Whatever I do I just want to make enough money next year to be really comfortable so I don't have to worry about getting a shitty job forever or maybe like 20 years or something. I still live with my mom so I also want to move out but I don't know when that will happen since living at home now is better than living in a tiny apartment so I would need a pretty baller pad if I moved out.
