Poker is gay. by TheHuHu, January 13

Such a bad session. Moved down to NL25 after losing seven buy-ins at NL50 last night and lost another six at NL25. My sets get beat by turned flushes all-in on the flop; my flushes get beat by full houses at the river. My AQ+ always misses flop and I end up Cbetting most of the time and folding turn. Faggots don't know how to fold a shitty top pair and river a two pair on me.

I'm going to take a long break and watch some CR videos or something.

Live Hand Analysis by twotimesopt, January 13

2/5 Live
Table has been pretty quiet recently. The game started about 2 hours ago, I won several big pots right off the bat and have pretty card-dead and inactive for about an hour. I have a pretty tight and very aggressive image.

Pre-flop
UTG raises to 15. CO calls, BTN calls, I call from the BB w/ 57ss. We go to the flop 4-handed.

I think this is pretty standard. I would sometimes squeeze here, but UTG probably has a very tight raising range UTG and stacks are not deep.

Flop (Pot: $60):
7h 7d Th

I check. UTG bets $30. CO calls, BTN calls...

I checked flop b/c there's a very good chance that UTG has an overpair and will c-bet the flop. If not, BTN is very likely to take a stab at the pot and even call a c/r lightly (from me).

...I raise to $150...

I think this raise is possibly a little small. I was planning on making it $150 after UTG bet $30, which would be a PSB and didn't adjust after the two calls. Probably should have made this $200, but I don't think it changes much.

UTG tanks and folds, CO folds, BTN thinks for a bit and shoves. It's about $250 for me to call.

And I'm totally baffled. I have played a lot with BTN, he is a bad reg. Very loose with draws/medium-stength hands, and very stationy. He plays back at me a lot with a huge range of one-pair hands b/c he has seen me play good draws very aggressively. I thought he would NEVER do this with a flush draw. It didn't really seem like he would shove with a T - he'd probably flat and maybe fold since he's not a total monkey. It really seemed to me like he flopped the nuts, likely TT or T7, possibly a stronger 7, but he would play any 7 like the nuts and can really have A7o-27s here. I had never seen him make a strong bet without a very good hand. I tanked and folded.

He showed me ATo.

I went on tilt. I really just couldn't figure out if he was doing this for value or trying to make me fold trips, which I obviously had.

I realized today, that so much of playing against bad players (which is like 90% of live poker) is understanding that they don't think about the game like you do. BTN doesn't realize that I'm only check-raising a monster here 4-handed, and more importantly, he most likely didn't make the distinction between betting for value or as a bluff here. He probably thought "well, I have two-pair, top kicker, and this kid plays draws aggressively. All-in obv..."

So, I kind of learned something about playing against bad players. It's important to realize that they don't understand the game on the level that you do. It's harder to put them on a range of hands, b/c the likelihood of them making a play/getting bored/shoving in, "cuz fuck it" is much higher. They don't understand the idea of maximizing EV, and will sometimes just act on instinct or a whim.

What does this mean for how to play against them? I think two things: 1. Game flow is more important. If somebody's stuck/bored/tilted this is much more obvious and relevant in a live game against bad players. 2. Absolute hand value becomes more relevant. i.e., sometimes you just shouldn't fold trips.

Anyway, I'd love feedback on this. I was really tilted last night and have been thinking about this hand for a while. Cheers yo.

wise advice by PplusAD, January 13

I just recently read this and found it very true

There is a difference between doing something with passion and being addicted.
If you do something with passion , it enriches your life
everytime you do something with passion you not only ejoy the business itself but furthermore add some joy to your life

instead
if u are addicted to something your life becomes poorer.
In fact the only thing that you can still enjoy is the business itself
Instead of being a part of the wonderful diversity of life u start to hide and seperate from it.

sry my english is medicore ... so i probably didnt translate it 100% correct from german to english >_<

nevertheless i hope u get the idea.

I found this a very nice statement with lots of truth in it.

Six flags coaster-like ride by SashineK, January 13

Never been in any of six flags parks, but i have seen some videos and having a swing 6bi down and back and down again to 4bi down total in like 2K hands is pretty same i figure. But it could have been much cheaper if i could do some easy folds, which i didn't. Anyway this happened on thursday so i gotta get back in business and make some progress today.

I quit by tloapc, January 13

smoking that is
as of last night

In a little history lesson about me, I used to smoke for quite along time. With the help of my then gf, I managed to quit for two+ years.
I started up again right at the end of training in the military. It was definitely +ev to smoke once u get in ur unit in the Army.
I have made it a new years resolution to quit, and this time it's on my own, so I might as well start chuckin at the shitty process now.
I apologize to anyone and everyone in advance....if I seem very cynical, non humorous, or just plain unhappy for the next 4-6 weeks, well.....it's CUZ I AM

LET THE CLASH OF RAGE VS PRIORITIES BEGIN!

= LPer Question = by mrpav.com, January 13

I fellow LPer asked me a question which i wouldn't mind sharing since I believe it might befenit you guys. Question was " Hi, I don't post much on LP, but I've been reading the board for a few months now. I came across your blog a little while ago and I have a couple questions about nursing, if you don't mind. How difficult has it been to learn the material? Has it been enjoyable? Feel free to share any of your experiences, good or bad, while you've been going through your nursing program, thanks. "

My response:

Sure thing, I’ll be more than happy to answer some questions. Sorry for the late response, I’ve been setting up my new TV and didn't have much time to login to lp. I’m in 2nd year, and I’m enrolled in a 4 year collaborative registered nurse program. The material isn’t that difficult, the only subject I found difficult was pathology because I just don’t have a photographic memory to memorize material, but the hospital experience I gathered and other courses haven’t given me that much trouble. I found the nursing program and my experiences more than enjoyable. The teachers are amazing, I love the hospital work. You learn a great deal everyday and the relationships you make with the patients are honestly a life changing experience. Also not many occupations can you go home and you know you actually made a difference in someone else’s life. I always find myself smiling and having a pleasant time when I’m on the hospital floor, or maybe I’m just lucky that I get a friendly staff that jokes from time to time and not overly stressed.
When it comes to good or bad experiences, a good one for example was a priest that was on my floor last month. He was retired and I could not believe the dirty jokes this guy would tell me. I could not stop laughing every morning. A bad one in the same time frame was a patient that I had to care for about 2 month died. I bounded with her, and I got to know her really well, and I came back the following week to find out that she passed on, so that was a little difficult to accept because even though she was my patient, I also consider most patients my friends.
On a side note, these things don’t really matter that much, but 1/3 patients address me as doctor, if I don’t introduce myself to them, typical stereotype (I’m a male with scrubs, he must be a doctor). I find it that nurses don’t really pick on me as much, since I’m more intimidating than the other student nurses. Also in the program the ratio for male to female must be 1/20 so no complaints from any of the other guys. Any who, I hope some of this info helped you out. If there’s any other questions you might have, feel free to ask. Take care.

HOOORAY. by WilsWils, January 13

Looked closely from my own hands from my last sessions for the "Downswing" i had, and realized it started by 3 bad beats in a row, then drinking cough syrup , then playing while tired and playing like a retard and donking off 8 more BI'S.

Thank god RB came back to pad my retardedness, never playing sick/ druggged up again

Today grinded up 2-3 BI's slowly, still unable to get any action on KK/AA which has been slowing down bouncing back my br, but whatevs, day up is a day up. nothing crazy happened, just slowwwwwww grinding, and a KKvAA pf loss of course which hampered me

Also had an amazing day today. Went to mcdonalds for breakfast, got a free sausage and egger cause the lady packaged it in and didnt charge when i went to the drive thru? gg?

Update about the missing money by DustySwedeDude, January 13

something like:

"Just so you know you gave me like 1500 SEK (that's about 150€) when I was going to buy you a burger
and you refused to take it back
they're here at my place in case you're interested. "

The funny part is that I can't remember having hamburgers.

Death Threats from foolsplay by alphablend, January 13

FoolsPlay from LP got very upsetting while playing BW and he threatened to kill me IRL. He seemed serious, I don't have much to live for so if he follows through with it cheers to him. However I would like everyone to know what happened to me.

[200NL] vs AGGROSTATION by thundza, January 13

Had my largest HU upswing today @ 200NL vs SFisch4. I've never seen the guy around the HU tables, so I figured I'd stack him and then he'd leave, like most of the other unknowns do. Luckily for me, he was an uberfish that NEVER believed me. Every time I would stack him, he would say "nh" and reload. After I stacked him, he became uber aggressive whenever checked to, and never believed my c/r. He was 3betting me 70% of the time (with him oop), so I sat around a while for good hands to 4bet with. He called about 50% of my 4bets .

Highlights:

Draw hits, was good anyways

He becomes aggro

Doesnt believe c/r

TP is goot

He calls to split... or LOSE!

Flush hits, horrible river

Settttttt

AA vs tilt push

He finally left after that last hand. I wish everyday were like this...

leeks by lachlan_fearn, January 13

http://gourmetseed.com/images/leekgiantwinter.jpg

hi lp micro stake small stake and medium stake community,

i am writing to ask for help with my non-showdown play. i played a 1200 hand session and at the end i broke even but was up $50 in showdowns but -$50 in non-showdowns.

i want to always improve so i thought i'd post my 5 biggest losing non-showdown hands and try to get some tips and tricks

Hand #1:
+ Show Spoiler +

If you try to not be results orientated is this a good fold usually?? dunno stats cant remember

Hand #2:
+ Show Spoiler +

In retrospect of this hand the guy was chatting alot so maybe he was on tilt. but i didnt realise at the time. standardly, this played ok?

Hand #3:
+ Show Spoiler +

Ok i dont mean to be posting standard shit like this. but yeah i lost money here so good or bad? T62 board i thought was pretty dry, idk

Hand #4:
+ Show Spoiler +

i checked turn because the flush draw hit and there were 3 ppl in the pot. im guessing this is fine, just to confirm, good?

Hand #5:
+ Show Spoiler +

this might of been bad, could have called or folded here. i was going to call but then i figured im flipping at best and i know he's a shortie but for whatever reason i folded. is this a 100% slam dunk always call?

any comments welcome, even from noobs :-) thanks

oh and stats for the session
