| | Moving Up...Again! by LilDeano89, January 26
Hi again all,
I have some good news to report...I'm moving up from 25NL to 50NL!
Having worked my bankroll from $500 to $1000, sticking to the 20x buy-in rule, it's time to have a shot at the next challenge!
Overall I feel very proud of achieving this objective in such short space of time, and am looking forward to trying out NL50, and seeing how my game shapes up against the next level of players.
Until next time, good luck at the tables all!

| | i hate poker by nutshot, January 26
im beyond pissed right now, too much so to go through my hands and find the coolers and bad beats
but here's a list of bitching off the top of my head
- how many times can my JJ run into QQ?
- how many QQ vs AK races can i lose?
- how many AK vs QQ races can i lose?
- how many times can i have tptk vs an overpair and not get there?
- how many times can a maniac actually have a hand against me!
- how many pair + fd can not get there vs their overpair/top pair?
- how many straight + fd can not get there vs their top pair?
- how many times can i get rivered where it's 10:1 against? what does 90% even mean?
- how often can i get aa on the table where i have an active image and have everyone turbo fold, then 4bet me when im 3betting light the very next hand?
- asd;lgkjasdgl;kasjgdpoqwieyuqpjapoi4w3ypqherhjkl;fhopaiqwejkl;hdfoipajkl;
- there's more but im gonna pop some sleeping pills and go to sleep
- the swings in cash games are worse than the swings in mtts somehow
but yet i like cash games. i guess im a glutton for fucking punishment. 2 horrific sessions today totally wiping out yesterday's +13 buyin day and then some
still up 10 buyins or so total, but these swings are taking a toll on my life span

| | Defeated... For Now by k2o4, January 25
I think it's important to realize when you're losing and accept that truth rather then deny it. That's why right now I'm admitting that I am losing @ NL200... and I just can't seem to beat it.
http://bp1.blogger.com/_lCpU1soPi_E/RoyGKdXysAI/AAAAAAAAAL4/xcVXr1Avz1g/s400/loser.jpg
I think there's a lot of contributing factors, but the bottom line is that my stupid mistakes are killing me, and because of them my edge is not enough to make up for any suckouts I face. If I don't run into any suckouts I come out barely ahead. If I get sucked out on, I crash and burn. I don't have a very big edge at the limit cause I'm kicking my own ass with stupidity left and right.
I am not playing my A game. When I was playing NL100 I was on top of my shit, keeping myself calm, not being phased at all by coolers, putting people on hands, and most importantly I felt very confident about what to do in every situation. Now I am nearly always confused by betting patterns, can't put people on a hand, and am always worried about losing any money.
I thought moving up with 30 buyins would leave me with a big enough cushion that I'd be ok. I think I was wrong. I am way too worried about every single pot I lose and am put into tilt by the slightest thing going wrong. I'm making decisions to protect the money I have rather than maximize profit in the long run. I'm betting small on big hands cause I REALLY don't want people to fold and I wanna get some value... I'm betting big on weak hands cause I don't want to get sucked out on. I'm C Betting way too much in a hope to pull down any pot so that I can get some money back. It has turned into a sad desperate affair.
I was actually playing top notch poker for a good hour earlier tonight, but then I hit 2 coolers at the same time which basically erased my entire profit for the session, which lead me to make a bad tilty call-down... then I hit one more cooler and finally had the good sense to get off the comp. That all took me down to the point where I need to drop to NL100 again and rebuild.
My plan for now is to rebuild to a much bigger BR, at least $7,000 before playing NL200 again. I think if I can play with a big enough cushion I will be able to focus on good poker rather than fretting over every hand won or lost. I also think a bit of time rebuilding confidence and working on my game overall should be good. I think I can win pretty solidly @ NL100 considering how I've done so far and how much easier it is than NL200. I'm not giving up forever, just backing off for now cause the bottom line is that I am not good enough to beat NL200 yet.
I've got a shitload of hands from NL200 that I need to ask questions on so I will post those up slowly as I play NL100... that way I can be studying for my move back up. I am also gonna go crazy on any good CR videos about a LAG style @ NL200. If anyone has any suggestions please post em below. I also want to give a HUGE THANK YOU TO ALL THE POSTERS IN THE MEDIUM STAKES FORUMS!!!! I have received a lot of great advice and am very grateful for all of it. People have been very generous in replying to my million threads and a million hands per thread. I just hope that I can be good enough to add input as well in the near future, cause right now I don't even want to give advice to anyone cause I'm afraid I'll just encourage em play worse, hehe.
Might as well close with my NL200 graph over the entire run... sounds appropriate!

| | January so far... by 27s, January 25
I was gonna wait until the end of the month for this but I'm so hyped about playing poker, making money, bein a microstakes baller and just running so damn consistently well.
So here is my graph and my chart:
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w294/tidyguyhayes/January0850cent.jpg
I actually didnt start playing this month until around the 12th. My computer was messed up and I was pretty busy anyway. So I got my computer fixed up - needed a new power supply. Im just gonna buy a kick ass computer in the next month or so with an insanely huge monitor for 9 tabling. So anyhow, the last two weeks have gone well for me. Put in 52 hours with a MT ratio of 7.08 running at just under 11BB/100 which I believe is quite sustainable at this level. I've really been keeping my cool while playing and not letting the beats get to me. Just move on to the next hand and focus on my A game.
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w294/tidyguyhayes/JanuaryGeneral08.jpg
So I'm taking away $30 an hour from the tables. GG imo. I'm not positive but I think my rakeback is getting me $10/hour. I'll confirm what that is in the middle of February when I get paid. Part of December I was playing $25NL.
I'm getting smart at managing my roll at the same time. Withdrew $500 to instadebit earlier in the week so I can pick up a reload bonus. Sure enough AP had a 15% up to $200 today. So I deposited $500 which gave me a $75 pending bonus. I only played 3 hours and cleared $20 of it, though today I ran like a god almost 6 buyins holla! AP typically has reloads like this a couple times a week, so now that my roll is larger I'm going to start taking advantage of them. I just have to get instadebit to raise my transaction limits. Once I'm rolling with this though I should be able to bring in at least $1k in bounses!! Not to mention the ARP points to cash - which I figure gives me another couple bucks an hour when I hit 50,000 points and cashout $500.
Im just rollin with it. I want to go pro more than anything, but I'm going to do it right, with a nice sized bankroll + a few months expenses in the bank, and no debt. This is going to be possible very soon because im getting a divorce settlement of $25k. Ship it.

| | There is a HUGE Difference! by JonnyCosMo, January 25
Recently I've been getting a little too out of line and lost a lot of my basics from trying to think too hard, too many levels into certain hands. Some of you guys might have seen the funky AJ hand I posted in the mid stakes forums asking whether I should call with AJ high on the river. NOT GOOD! So to fix this, I've decided to implement a new rule into my sessions: I will have to play an hour of 8-table NL200 for each and every big mistake I make at NL400 or NL600. This past week I've played a total of 7 hours of NL200, and let me be the first to inform you guys who still play NL200 or lower... The jump between NL200 & NL400 is HUGE. I cannot believe some of the stuff that goes on at NL200, and some of the fish that play those games. It's absolute amazing. Hands like this: http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/370047 NEVER happens at NL400 no matter how bad the fish are. Plus, every regular at NL200 plays the same 19/16/3 ABC Tight-Aggro game which is horribly transparent and very easy to exploit. No doubt, these players probably destroy NL200 for a good sum of money, but they are in for a very rude awakening when they move up.
In other news, I'm getting much better at surfing. My friend has a water camera so I'll try and get pictures the next time I'm out there. Oh yea... and my little sister is having a baby on Saturday so I'm going to be Uncle Jonny soon! Yes, I know my little sister is only 20, and yes I find it really weird, but at the same time it going to be exciting to see the new addition to the fam. :D

| | So how do I do this? by mikeymoo, January 25
Let's start with a summary of my last blog.
"I'm 18 in July and want to hit NL50 by September, which is unlikely, so I'm looking at maybe November, I am planning on starting with $200 at NL10 from free promotions etc."
So how do I do this?
I feel like I have a good grasp of the game, however I'm not 100% sure so I'm carefully avoiding the banstick for now, leading most of my posts regarding hands in Low Stakes with something along the lines of "I'm not sure... kind of new... better ask someone else... but I think that [whatever it is] is the best play here." And then I write the thinking behind my statement.
I know I can't really understand where I'm at until I play for myself; all I have is about 5k hands played total at NL10.. eventually I was 12-tabling (friend's account). While dumping a load of hate on the shortstackers, I started to wonder if this style of play, (played effectively,) can be good for a player like me? Players are generally quite bad at the lower limits, and shortstacking makes many decisions much much easier, and there is (I think) less risk to a strategy like this. On the other hand, I feel I am competent and can beat the NL10 games at least.
My problem is my discipline (or lack thereof). I see a lot of incredibly bad beats when viewing hands, and I'm not sure that I can take it. My parents have told me that if I lose this initial $200, they won't allow me to ever deposit into a poker room again. I understand that by this point I'm 18 and an individual, but it's the whole Asian parenting concept of respect etc. and I've already pissed them off quite a bit these last 17 years.
I've heard that NL5/NL10 are the grindiest levels and pretty much I want to get through that as quickly as possible. However, I absolutely cannot afford to lose this. Maybe I should stake someone who I know is competent?
I am continuing to study poker through LP, watching games, playinglivewithfriendswhichisn'tthathelpfulbutheyI'lltakewhatIcanget, reading books, etc. The book-reading is more to see what other people may or may not be reading, and how others view the game. This is all about learning to me, as I have been in love with game theory for a number of years, but being able to pay tuition ($4k a year) is definitely a goal which I think I can reach eventually.
For the record, I think I can play 5k-10k hands a week.
To sum up:
-- Not wanting to risk my bankroll to a nasty downswing/tilty play/just bad play, but
- I think I am adept enough to beat NL10;
- I have the drive to continually learn.
-- Bigstack play or Shortstack play?
-- $4k a year too lofty of a goal? How many hands of NL50/NL100 will that come to in a year? Assuming I play a solid, TAG game?
-- How many hands does it take an average player to advance from NL10 to NL50?
Thanks in advance if I get any answers.
PS: I can't register for the free offers at LP, but what is actually free and not some sort of "get points to generate $ bonus"? I know:
CDPoker is $50
VCPoker is $10
Refer a Friend is $7.50 each
What exactly is the promotion for Titan?
Anything short of $200 comes straight from my wallet. But I know enough other promotions that can probably add to $200.
Thx for reading!

| | Got Scammed IRL by SugoGosu, January 25
I have this attitude where I try to help people as much as I can. Previously back in ~July I was really good friends with this person (I'll call him Jackass). So anyway, he gets fired from his job, and needs to pay rent. I hung out with him all the time, and he has paid me back before, so hey, why not?
Turns out Jackass is a homosexual (i did not know this) and had a huge crush on me. I figure this out, and as we drink with some other people, he tries to grope me and shit. I say fuck nasty shit I'm out.
Throughout the previous 6 months I have been asking him and asking him to pay me back the $950 I lent him. He now acts as if he has no idea what I am talking about, ignores me, and then blocks me on AIM/MSN and won't answer my calls.
Today he messages me saying that he wants to kill me and key my car (lol who the hell kills someone and KEYS THEIR CAR?) and such. So life tilted right now... down $950 when I shouldn't have been.
So -EV. So, never lend money to a gay guy crushing on you.

I played only 6-max today and I think I played really well. I completely owned some regulars and thats always a good feeling. I also played alot with a guy who Im sure usually plays 25$/50$, Right now I cant remember his name but I have definitely seen him alot at high stakes. For the first time in a looong long time I felt completely owned. He just buldozed me until I almost begged him to stop. Its very inspirational to see a player like that in action but also really scary. I cant believe the mindfuck swings of playing 25$/50$ against players like that all day long.
In other news, tomorrow is my day of from my fuckall workout routine. Apart from taking a long walk before breakfast I will rest the entire day and thats great because it feel like my entire body is on mad tilt right now.

| | You don´t want to read this by True, January 25
Moving to a different apartment this weekend so no internet or online poker for few weeks for me, so here´s my early end of january update on how things are going. (9.1 - 26.1). I´ll probably go try out on the small local 20+5 to 50+10 euro 10 man SNG tournaments here due to me being an addict and not surviving the two weeks it takes the slowpokes to flick a switch. I think the games are a bit expensive for someone at my level but i don´t think i can get live expirience for any cheaper.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj98/TrueRandom/Januarystats.jpg
So the plan to play LAG really didn´t work out too well... i usually get tired after an hour or so of play and tighten up a lot. Early session my VPIP hangs around 30 or so, afterwards drops to 10-15 :| . My stamina clearly isn´t too good here. Any additional comments regarding the stats would be welcome.
http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj98/TrueRandom/Januarygraph.jpg
Erh i actually have no idea how to get those /hand graphics you people have, is that a pokertracker feature or an additional program? Here´s my session graph anyways. The second downswing was really, really bad. A mixture of bad luck and bad play hurt me bad. I lost pretty much every single coinflip i had there, and i made it worse by then starting to spew everywhere. I´m forcing myself to stop after losing 3 BI in a single session from now on to prevent those.
First leap in the end is from NL10, second from me giving NL25 a stab since i felt so good. The numbers don´t match since that was my second stab at NL25. Really small sessions both, about 500 hands.
Additionally i made something like 100 bucks from playing Omaha and small SNG tournaments. Lowstakes omaha players are really bad
BR now at 500$. Would you people suggest me moving to FTP when at 600 to get my hands on that 600 dollar bonus + rakeback?
