I think it's important to realize when you're losing and accept that truth rather then deny it. That's why right now I'm admitting that I am losing @ NL200... and I just can't seem to beat it.

I think there's a lot of contributing factors, but the bottom line is that my stupid mistakes are killing me, and because of them my edge is not enough to make up for any suckouts I face. If I don't run into any suckouts I come out barely ahead. If I get sucked out on, I crash and burn. I don't have a very big edge at the limit cause I'm kicking my own ass with stupidity left and right.

I am not playing my A game. When I was playing NL100 I was on top of my shit, keeping myself calm, not being phased at all by coolers, putting people on hands, and most importantly I felt very confident about what to do in every situation. Now I am nearly always confused by betting patterns, can't put people on a hand, and am always worried about losing any money.

I thought moving up with 30 buyins would leave me with a big enough cushion that I'd be ok. I think I was wrong. I am way too worried about every single pot I lose and am put into tilt by the slightest thing going wrong. I'm making decisions to protect the money I have rather than maximize profit in the long run. I'm betting small on big hands cause I REALLY don't want people to fold and I wanna get some value... I'm betting big on weak hands cause I don't want to get sucked out on. I'm C Betting way too much in a hope to pull down any pot so that I can get some money back. It has turned into a sad desperate affair.

I was actually playing top notch poker for a good hour earlier tonight, but then I hit 2 coolers at the same time which basically erased my entire profit for the session, which lead me to make a bad tilty call-down... then I hit one more cooler and finally had the good sense to get off the comp. That all took me down to the point where I need to drop to NL100 again and rebuild.

My plan for now is to rebuild to a much bigger BR, at least $7,000 before playing NL200 again. I think if I can play with a big enough cushion I will be able to focus on good poker rather than fretting over every hand won or lost. I also think a bit of time rebuilding confidence and working on my game overall should be good. I think I can win pretty solidly @ NL100 considering how I've done so far and how much easier it is than NL200. I'm not giving up forever, just backing off for now cause the bottom line is that I am not good enough to beat NL200 yet.

I've got a shitload of hands from NL200 that I need to ask questions on so I will post those up slowly as I play NL100... that way I can be studying for my move back up. I am also gonna go crazy on any good CR videos about a LAG style @ NL200. If anyone has any suggestions please post em below. I also want to give a HUGE THANK YOU TO ALL THE POSTERS IN THE MEDIUM STAKES FORUMS!!!! I have received a lot of great advice and am very grateful for all of it. People have been very generous in replying to my million threads and a million hands per thread. I just hope that I can be good enough to add input as well in the near future, cause right now I don't even want to give advice to anyone cause I'm afraid I'll just encourage em play worse, hehe.

Might as well close with my NL200 graph over the entire run... sounds appropriate!

gl man, I feel the same moving up to NL50, keep taking shots, but trying too hard and losing. I'm going to go for 40 buy-ins and I think the bigger bankroll will really help me feel comfortable

Hey man looks like you lost less than 5 buyins at $200NL. I dont think its a big deal, though I know exactly how you feel about moving up. I'm the same as you are only at $50NL. I'm super confident there, putting people on hands and the coolers really dont get to me. I tried a little bit of $100NL and tilted for some reason, blew a buy-in and just said 'thats it ur not ready'.

I dont think there is a big difference from $50NL to $100NL other than the amount of money, so I suspect it could be the same for you. I think moving down for now is good for you, and take a shot later on. Eventually, you'll wind up taking a shot and hit a 5k hand heater and be up like 5-6 buyins. Then you'll feel better because you're now gambling with profits from the level you're taking a shot at.

Anyhow, gl with it man I think you'll start beating $200NL soon.

Pfft still way too small of a hand sample. 6k hands is like one medium length session, and -4bi is standard!

You guys are right, small sample, and small loss. However, from what he's described he is'nt ready psychologically to move up, unless he takes another shot and runs well for the first 10k hands. I think this is normal though.

it's not the small hand sample, it's my horrendous play... I'm sure I could be winning @ NL200 right now if I subtracted about 10 gigantic idiotic mistakes that I've made over the last few days... and I can't seem to get myself to stop making them. Plus the overall feeling of being totally lost doesn't help either, lol.

maybe your effected by the money and you don't realize it

if you think you can beat the limit still, try starting your session by playing a couple tables of 100nl, and once you feel like you are playing well, start opening up 200nl tables.

you're not even running bad, like 1.5 buyins under expected

if you add tons of macro options and units and keep the old obligations like sending scvs to mine, pros will just focus less on micro which sucks imo -Floofy

I just played 1,000 hands of NL100 and did great. Comparing it to my NL200 time I think there are 2 big things affecting me:

1) The money. I'm just not comfortable right now with the limit. I need a bigger cushion or to get my head to chill out. It's really affecting the way I play, cause I am playing scared.

2) 3betting. At NL100 people 3bet light, but not very often, and it's pretty rare to have to 4bet light. And usually you 4bet light one time and they back off of you. Nearly every 3bet pot that goes to the flop you can easily take with a 2/3 continuation bet. Overall, 3betting @ NL100 is easy and I do it better than most. In NL200 3betting is much more common, and not having some strategy to combat light 3betting leaves you in a tough spot. Also, 3bet pots play much differently on the flop. People are trickier and willing to stay in with weaker holdings.

So basically I need to stop being scared + learn how to play the 3betting game. I think next time I do NL200 I will take it on the way you just suggested by playing NL100 first =) I did that the first few times I played NL200 and it went much better that way.

Snider, I'd love to sweat you a bunch and then also maybe have you watch me once or twice. It would be a huge help! Big thanks for the offer!

I know, that's pretty sad. I'm losing and I'm not running bad, hehe. More arguments for why I suck.

don't be so hard on yourself. you had to trip somewhere and I'd say you were long overdue for this update on reality lol. Don't mean anything bad by it though. Keep at it...
