1st winning day in march by Python817, March 14

I didn't play much today because I had other things to do but I'm happy with the results. I'm getting better at using pahud and I think it also helped that I 4 tabled instead so I focused more. I hope this will continue and not hit another downswing for a while.

ps: I need to make friends with people who play poker so I can have someone to discuss hands with and a little competition never hurt anyone if you have msn pm me and I'll add you

Sick by thestoryteller, March 14

I hate being sick. Have got a sore throat and a fever of 38.83C. Felt terrible yesterday afternoon and took the afternoon off work but couldn't sleep properly. Kept having weird dreams.

Decided to play poker since I couldn't sleep and felt like shit. Played about 650 hands in a semi-delirious state and ended up running at 47.37PTBB/100. Have decided to move up to NL5 after my fever but had $144.44 in my bankroll - very inauspicious number for Chinese. Played a couple more hands today and brought it up to 145.

Hopefully the fever subsides soon.

I'm very pleased with the improvement in my play so far. Consciously fixing one thing at a time like AK hands, increasing river AF and so on is helping a lot.

From first 10K hands to next 4,500 hands:

VPIP 11.49 to 12.65
PFR 4.89 to 5.05 (still working on this one)
Turn AF 2.5 to 3.29
River AF 1.33 to 1.57
Amount won 18 to 30
PTBB/100 4.26 to 17

My next goal is to learn to play Ax suited properly. Grot's guide implies that they do best in mulitway unraised pots, but lots of people say raise them up PF and others say fold PF. Maybe some of that is only applicable at 6max? I think at NL2 I can do ANYTHING with them and still show a profit, but I expect that as I move up, gems like this will become less common:

LOTS of NL5 hands! by Ftrunkz, March 14

WARNING: big ass boring post.

Well, basically, I've been stuck for a while at NL5 after being easily rolled for NL10 at one stage, the biggest part of this was me playing too many tournaments and sng's with only like 20 bi's, trying to 15 table $3.4 turbo's etc... But lately i've been struggling to beat NL5 due to ridiculous coolers and general spewing after them, but im posting a whole bunch of hands here that i would like to see opinions on (not the obvious coolers), Me not beating NL5 has a lot to do with leaks in my game, regardless of how bad I'm currently running, and I'd like anyone who has the time to have a look at these and let me know any changes i could make, I'll also post my reasoning during the hand, and anything i picked up after reviewing the hand myself.

HAND 1:
Ideas while playing: Pre-flop is pretty standard i think. My flop bet is probably a tiny bit small in comparison, i could've probably jacked it up to 90c-$1 range as i try to keep my bets on the flop around 2/3-3/4 range, his call-check line is usually showing a draw or a monster at these stakes i think, so i bet out again at the turn and get flatted, leading me to think he's probably on a draw, when the river comes a blank, i figure i probably have the best hand and put his last $1.05c into the pot.

After reviewing: I think this is standardish... I think i didnt take into account enough the idea of him having AsXs so him hitting the ace was probably higher then i gave him credit for, even tho he did check it to me.

HAND 2:

Ideas while playing: Basically, this whole hand i am pretty confused about whether i played it right on ANY street. PF, the call was probably sloppy, we were both deep so i used that to justify the call at the time figuring i'd get it in if i hit a set and gtfo if i didn't. When the flop came down, as soon as i saw it i thought i had hit the jackpot, but after betting i realized i'm not actually ahead of some of the hands that are likely holdings of his (aa/kk obv.) and he's probably letting everything else go but AK. So on the turn and river i bet out with the intention of getting his stack in and thinking it was just a cooler if he had aces or kings on me.

Nothing in my thinking has really changed after the hand, But i am interested in comments on it whether its an obvious fold pf or not.

HAND 3:

Thoughts: This hand was tricky, pretty standard pre-flop/flop, on the turn obviously things changed, when he raises on the turn, can i ever fold here? I figure i'm beating KQ, and thats about it in terms of holdings he would do this logically with.

HAND 4:

Thoughts: In the hand my thought process was pretty 1 dimensional, not thinking enough about players acting behind me and players having me drawing virtually dead. PF was standard i think, on the flop when he leads out for 50c, i instinctively calling thinking i've easily got odds to draw to my 2nd nut flush. When the player behind me moves in and gets called, my thought process was any heart or either of the 2 queens probably saves me in this pot, and i probably have the odds to call here. Was my line of thinking absolutely stupid for any reason here, or was my maths a bit off and i didn't have odds?

Been cathcing up some with poker last days, been playing far too less since copenhagen. Anyways I've been doing pretty good lately, switched to my old laptop for poker playing since it has a clean install of windows and wont lag, has a larger screen plus I cant be doing other things while playing. Plus this comp has Lee's blessings I think, made most of my money on this laptop.

Got the iphone a couple of days ago and it totally pwns. Apple makes some sweet things.

Anyway I've been giving some friends lessons lately and thought it was kinda funny so I figured I might as well check if anyone here wants to try it, I'm mostly looking for nl100-200 players and will charge $50 a hour which is pretty cheap compared to other instructors.

Regrinding my BR - Update + Graphs by Bigbobm, March 14

So I haven't updated in a while because I've been so busy owning noobs. I figured I'd post a quick update before I start my marathon. I've got a week off from school, so I'm hoping to get like a billion hands in. I'll probably be 16 tabling 50nl on FTP just in case any of you noobs wanna ruin my day and sit at my tables. By the end of next week, I'll probably have 255k+ FTP points to buy the new laptop in their store..

  Sony Vaio AR710E/B
257,000 Points

The VAIO AR notebook has a spacious 17" widescreen display featuring XBRITE-ECO LCD technology and a built-in 1.3 megapixel camera and microphone for video chatting with family and friends. Backed by Intel Pentium Dual-Core processor technology, this notebook will be your ultimate desktop replacement.

Other features include:

200GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
2GB (1GBx2) RAM
DL DVD+/-RW Optical Drive
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium
802.11a/b/g/n Wireless
17" WXGA+ w/ XBRITE-Eco Display
NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GT card 1023MB

Enough of the boring shit. I moved up to 50nl a few days ago because I've been running pretty decent and I guess I'm just that good or something.

Half of march results by PplusAD, March 14

So far it has been a constant rollercoaster up and down.
Atm i am + 223 € ( 360 $) overall in the first 14 days of march
I am not sure if i am happy with that.
I guess somehow the results are not too bad. + 11 Buy ins at half of the month.

If i continue like that i should be happy to end month with + 450€ ( + 700$) which is not too bad for mostly Nl20€ ( Nl30$)

I dont know why i am unhappy with that
I guess its mostly cause it felt like hard work in March ... while having a poor $/h rate.
starting every session down at least -4-5 buy ins the first 400hands due to bad luck then slowly grinding back in a ton of hands to end up like 2/3 buy in on average...

well things could be worse
And besides that i feel a big Upswing comming for the second half of the month as i made + 5 buy ins in my last 700hands

Help Needed ! by dafcnz, March 14

Hey guys, I don't really know where to turn to so I thought I'd post here in my blog and see if any of you guys have advice or ideas for me. I have been playing poker for quite some time now (although only recently with real money) and I don't seem to be able to get out of the micro grinding. Actually, I've been losing money (about 150$ in 2 weeks) on a constant basis so far playing at .02/.04 and .05/.10 NL FR. I have read many articles on this site and others, looked at pros' videos and such. I think I am playing by the book, only raising AA-KK-AK preflop, calling with pockets and AQ/AJ suited if I have position and no one raised or very few players called the BB, just what seems to be very tight play to me (maybe I'm wrong too). But even with playing this tight, I always seem to lose big hands to incredibly donkish players. Best example is about 30 minutes ago, I get dealt AKc and 4bet from middle position, guy on the button calls me so I guess he has either pockets or high cards (he actually has 9-10 offsuit). Flop comes out with 2 more clubs, I have a flush draw (hand was Jc-4d-3c), he checks, I raise as a continuation bet, he goes all-in ... I have about 2x his stack so I call, and when I see the cards I'm happy I called, seeing how he had nothing. Turn and River come, no clubs but the Q and an 8 comes out and he gets a straight on me. Lose 5$ ... This is basically what happens on all of my hands and I am thinking it's not just luck, everybody thinks they are the unluckiest poker players so I'm sure theres something I am doing wrong but I can't seem to point it out. I never hit on the flop, I can't seem to make a flush even if my life depends on it and everytime I seem to run into some random turn/river hits. I am not a beast at reading my opponents but the more I play, the more I feel like I can't read them at all ... Should I change stakes? Is it because there are simply too many lucky-a** donks on the micros??? I play solid against the other grinders and multi tablers but get raped constantly by fish and donks...

Ideas? Advice? Free money? (j/k, unless you wanna stake me 1k so I can play higher blinds haha)

**Edit : Forgot to mention, I basically never tilted through this, I kept telling myself if I keep playing consistent and tight in the end I can only end up winning more than I lose but I'm on the verge of losing all of my BR, I'm actually not going to touch the tables until I find out what's wrong with my play.

classical music!! by collegesucks, March 14

April 3rd:

my puny city is hosting one of the most celebrated pianists in the world o_O !!

So i insta shipped 70 bucks for a back row seat =D

Yundi Li, La Campanella:

He's AWESOME OMGGGGGG

Concert Program:

Mozart, Overture to The Marriage of Figaro
Prokofiev, Piano Concerto No.2 in G minor (perhaps the toughest concerto for piano EVER)
Respighi, Pini di Roma
Ravel, Piano Concerto in G major

I was listening to the scores above and it made me wonder if listening to classical music while sessioning would be +EV. I think it might help you tilt less? idk.. gotta try =D

Pokerwise i'm not playing so hot. i'm experiencing your usual swingy shit/not playing enough hands/lurking around lp.net too much/etc. I grind up, and then proceed to dump a few 3betting/paying off nits and also paying off the nuts with the second nuts or something close to that

Some hands:

i was trying to calculate my equity vs the donk's face up Qx but my timebank had one second left so i just clicked call =x. maybe i was too optimistic about implied odds as i really didn't know how he would react to a flush card on the river. idk. i got lucky.
+ Show Spoiler +

spots like this are so hard to explain to myself in restrospect. now that i think about it, i wonder why it never occurred to me to think that he would have better made hand on the turn. i guess my feel at the time was that this player was wayy too aggro with draws for me to give him enough credit on the turn i guess. and going with that read on the turn i had to call river since that Jack changed absolutely nothing.
+ Show Spoiler +

this hand got me thinking a lot about how i tend to slowplay monsters that can potentially be overwhelmed. it's a habit that i really really need to correct. there really is no sense in checking turn as i'm betting with tons of worse hands in that spot, as well as for too many other reasons to count.

speaking of slowplaying, i had this one hand vs. a multitabling postflop nit who opens a hugely wide range but shuts down immediately after his cbet. i called his raise from the CO with KQo in the small blind. flop came KQxhh, i check, he cbet, and i chose to simply call for some GOD-forsaken reason. the turn was a Jx and i checked again o__O... he fired a second bet for 30BB and at this point alarms are going off all over the fucking place. nevertheless, i flip the callstation/spewtard switch and call turn and call his huge 60BB bet on the river and /wrists when he flipped AT. I knew i was paying him off but i just wasn't playing with much sense at the time as the nit and i never really tangled before(he folded almost every hand that i 3bet vs. him)

god... that hand gave me nightmares. sometimes i just shut my brain off and spew spew spew in standard places. if i think during my sessions at least as much as i think when i post in the low stakes forum, i should be tons better off, imo

but i'm still hovering halfway toward my goal of moving up all this god damn month. i haven't moved a bit since my last big upswing, so i could def use another one of those. i think i average out to about 500 hands a day T__T so that's something that i need to work on as well.

also, i'm playing poker all over the fucking town so my data is split over 3+ computers, so no graphs until i can sort it all out.

peace,

collegesucks

i'm a 90% favorite to win, seems rigged to me, like you want bad players to constantly go in with horrible hands and get paid off for the rake you get

Here is their Response: (lol at me not giving him my name and still looking it up, i guess he looked over my pokerstars account)

Hello Michael,

Thank you for your email.

PokerStars is planning to introduce new rules regarding results database
sites like SharkScope in the near future. The rules will allow all players
to opt out from such databases if they wish, and will require players to
explicitly give permission before detailed statistics about them can be
displayed.

When the rules are implemented, sites will be allowed reasonable time to
comply with them, but any that choose not to do so will be prohibited. At
present, SharkScope has not agreed to comply with the rules, so is listed
as 'Pending' in our Prohibited Programs FAQ. This may of course change in
the future.

As the new rules are not in force yet, and because SharkScope still has a
chance to comply with the rules, we will not be warning or punishing
players who use it for the time being.

Regarding our shuffle, it is completely random, favoring or disfavoring no
player over any other. The computerized methods we use to shuffle the deck
are more than sufficient to ensure complete randomization of the cards,
and complete unpredictability of the cards to come. You can see the
description of these methods at:

http://www.pokerstars.com/security.html

In addition, we track all hands dealt daily to see if there is any
statistically significant variance.

In fact, we gave the source code to two independent auditors who reviewed
our shuffle algorithm and found it sound and random. You may read the
analyses of these auditors at:

http://www.pokerstars.com/rng_audit.html

We have dealt over 15,000,000,000 hands, and have freely given out real
money hand histories any time somebody has requested them. Not once has
anybody found any indication that our shuffle is not 100% random, and many
who have undertaken such studies have posted their findings to the
Internet. You may find just two of them here:

If you have further questions about this, please don't hesitate to contact
us.

Regards,

Kiet

/tilt

I fail at creating blogs too. I had a long blog post written out hit the backspace + clicked out of the text field = my blog raped. OH LEE HOW SICK UR HUMOR IS

Anyways I dont want to write that shit again so summary...

Yugless needs to teach me FR
Nolan teaches me SH
and Strato teaches me Donkaments

Sounds good and I'll be like unstoppable imo.

Also ran SICK GOOD at live poker today. was up like 2 1/2 racks at 15/30 within a few hours.

1 problem... I seem to be switched on and off every other month. 1 month I LOVE POKER and cant play enough. Next month, IDC if I win xxx,xxx amount, I still cant bring my lazy ass to play.

Does anyone else get that way at all? I've been like this for the past 1/2 year.
Maybe I burn myself out too quickly, I play a sick amount of hands imo considering i already work 60 hours a week.
