Refreshing reservist by thestoryteller, August 04

I've heard several people say that reservist training is a "good break from work". These people need to start looking for alternative employment, because if you think that sitting (or walking) in the jungle without a change of underwear for three days is a "good break from work", you are definitely in the wrong job.

Anyway, this particular round of reservist training turned out to be pretty okay... I didn't do much and it was comparatively comfortable. The enforced break from poker turned out to be good for my mind. I didn't realise how tired I was until I got out of reservist. I feel a lot more refreshed now. My mind feels clearer and the pressure to play and play has lifted.

I've made a couple of changes to my routine which have resulted in me playing even less than I usually do, but which I think will play dividends in the long run. Basically, fewer tables, more thinking about what I'm doing, more trying to predict the likely consequences of my actions and so on. I don't think I was doing that very well before my reservist training because my mind was so tired (not just from poker but from work as well).

I also try not to play unless I have at least 1.5 hours to spare... Because I have so little time to play I used to play many short sessions, but I think that's counter productive because I barely have time to understand the players before having to run.

With the little time I have to play each week I think it will take a long time before I move up, but I guess one can't expect to just zip through NL25 as if it were NL5.

dumb situation by Reload, August 03

FT of a big tourny (like 5k buyin or something), you're 5/9. you're dealt AA in the BB. preflop action is like 5 people go all in, including the chip leader, 3rd place, and the 7-9th place small stacks. prize difference between 6th and fifth is like 300k, and fifth and first is like 2 mill. snap call or suicide fold?

me and my friends argued about this so what do you guys think

Day 3 by TianYuan, August 03

Oh yeah, need to make one of these. I'm tired tho so probably won't be as long as usual. I felt like I played bad (for the last half of the session anyway) but won money anyway so that's always fun.

Lol@W$WSF and fold bb to steal #s. I think there was a ton of minraising being done so I was like calling a ton of only-just playable hands and folding when I brick the flop 5 way..

I think for future sessions I'll keep off msn, I'll save asking for advice until after the session (I was talking to Nuros about a couple of interesting hands and I realized my play was really slipping, but the hand was interesting so ;p bah).
In addition I had this cursed table, you know, the one where you NEVER win anything EVER? 12% w$wsf after 100 hands, pretty awesome (yes I realize it's a tiny sample and I could have not seen many flops at all in that time but I did and I kept getting raised or floated everytime).

Hands - will try to keep it a little shorter this time

What should I do here? I know some are gonna suggest 3bet preflop but I'm not super keen on getting 4bet with a hand that doesn't really fair great vs AA**.. That being said, am I supposed to call here? We do have quite a lot of money behind and I'm in position..
+ Show Spoiler +

Happy with this call.
+ Show Spoiler +

Vs multitabling TAG looking guy.. I'm not sure what to put down for his range, like if I want to give him FDs, 7s, 66** and maybe some wraps.. but I can't give him just {77**}.. So yeah I'm gonna have to play around on propokertools.com and see what kind of equity I can find vs a reasonable range. On the one hand it's a board where people aren't supposed to bluff raise a ton, on the other hand it's a flop where I'm probably always cbetting. Hrmph.
+ Show Spoiler +

Hold'em roots showing through - I didn't even consider the wheeldraw as part of his range cuz, wheeldraws are gutshots right!? Well, not in omaha.. So I put him on something that made more outs on the turn / made 2 pair on the turn and was like ahhhhhh fuck it, gambool I'm probably almost flipping anyway. So turns out I wasn't, oops!
+ Show Spoiler +

But I donated it back so it's ok. I think maybe I should have waited for a brick turn to stick it in. The guy is 80/20 btw so I wasn't particularly worried about AA
+ Show Spoiler +

This was funny, I had to double check I hadn't misread my hand because I couldn't believe someone would take this line with one of the weaker sets in this spot lol.
+ Show Spoiler +

This is like the last hand I played yesterday, except it's the first hand I played today (.. which has now become yesterday since it's 3 am). Except in reverse.
+ Show Spoiler +

One of the best parts of omaha.. Although I don't think I have to make it that big..
+ Show Spoiler +

I'm sure there were a ton more interesting hands but I'm too tired for those right now.

Oh and if the level designer of Gears of War happens to be a poker player, and if he happens to read this, I just want you to know you are a bigger tilt inducer than KK vs AA. In heads up.

(the level where you first meet the Theron Guard or whatever they are called, gaaaaaah I want to smash something -
1) the spawn point is about 2 minutes walk from any actual enemies
2) everytime you die, you have to sidetrack and pick up the new weapon you get.
3) your AI partners are slow as slugs at the beginning because they have to discuss the scenery. Everytime. And you can't bypass it. Also, your main AI partner is a suicidal berseker who tries to charge the enemy and attack them with his chainsaw. This invariably leads to him dying and me dying because he managed to draw all of them out at once.
4) Arrows. With explosives. That attach to you and kill you. And you can't do anything about them.

Still a pretty fun game ;p

Also, I momentarily blacked out and forgot how to calculate pot odds when someone overbets so in shame I started watching the Mathematics of Hold'em series on Deucescracked. Then I realized I was a fucking idiot and had just missed a really super basic step which is why it wasn't working (OF course you're gonna get a weird number when you are not adding the riverbet to the pot you fucking fish!).

I'm still gonna watch those tho, cause my math is atrocious =]

Fixing leaks by DustySwedeDude, August 03

I'm up like a couple of bi's in hold'em so far this month but down a lot in omaha, dunno how much but maybe 3-4k USD so whatever. I've started thinking about leaks and shit a lot and even though I'm pretty sure I've got a shitload of "normal" game leaks and such I feel that I've got a really good NL 6-max game with solid fundamentals, pretty good ranges in most spots and very few really "big" leaks. However, this doesn't do me any good when I'm not playing NL 6-max. So, from now on I'll have a couple of new rules to get rid of a couple of leaks.

- No omaha on stakes higher then 2/4 USD untill I've moved up to 5/10 hold'em with 100bi.
- No HU on stakes I've got less then 100bi on.
- No talking on msn while I'm playing, instablock anyone who starts talking to me while I play untill I'm done with the session.
- No homegames or anything on stakes that means something to them but not really too me. Nothing tilts me worse then softplaying, then getting stuck and some normally really nice dude starts talking about how he playrf the hand and didn't put me on whatnot and then wanting to remove money from the table not to play deep or counting his money for 5 minutes before the next deal. Therefore I'll not play live cash for less then 2/4€ except for drunken (at least 5 beers before the first hand)HU vs remmember87 or if I'm in the casino.
- No trips to the casino unless it's an excuse for hanging out with LPers and/or sleeping over at some girl's place in sthlm.

Any more ideas?

Appology/Update by eightfourO, August 03

I said i would post this twice so that everyone got a chance to read it... The guy just sent me 15 bucks... it was a 50 dollar pot so i guess thats like 3/5 of what i put into it?? better than nothing i guess.

Hey everyone, i wanted to say a few things following up on my events today. First off, i want to appologize for disrespecting everything LP stands for. I completely embarassed myself earlier for the following quote which will be censored out.

  On August 02 2008 12:05 eightfourO wrote:

Obv, i was upset. I am going to report him, because that should not happen. I find that playing 10/25 is much easier to play than 2nl 5nl 10nl b/c they are soft tables with nits and it's very easy to tell what they have. My br is not ready to multitable, but i had the confidence that i could very easily win @ 1-2 tables, and i did. I have made a very nice profit, but now that this has happend, i am going back down. I took a hit in the BR, its about 40 bucks less than where i started at because of the incident today, plus KK vs AA didn't work out, and there were a couple other coolers/bad beats that hit today as well.

Anyway, i'm going to work my way up back to about $250 in the BR and try 10/25 again, but thats beside the point. The main reason for this post is to appologize. The way i figure it, there are always going to be people looking at this website to see if they want to join, and i just scared off potential members, and gave our community a bad reputation. This is something that i was not at all trying to do, i just needed to blow up some steam, and i did it in the wrong way by embarassing myself and Liquidpoker. This will not happen again.

I will copy/paste this post again sometime in like 12 hours that way everyone on both sides of the world can have a chance to read it b4 it gets bumped off the list of blogs.

Again, i am sorry for offending everyone, and hope that i can be forgiven and my reputation as a stupid gun totting american (texan) will remain unscathed.

In the world of poker... i played my bi-weekly cash game with my co-workers today, .25/.50 blinds, bought in with 30 b/c no one realizes that the min/max needs to be 25/50... and everyone bought in with 20...so i didn't want to be rude and get $50 in chips, but i sure as hell wasn't about to short myself, and i'm glad i didn't...
Within the first 30 minutes i was down to 8 dollars when 33 vs AA on an A35 board... I was in mid position, SB raised pf 1.50, i called along with 2 others. Flop comes Ad 3s 5s...SB leads with 2.50 into a $6.50 pot. Fold, i reraise to $7.50... Dealer thinks long and hard, but ended up folding As 2s... SB reraises all-in for another $9.75... I call and flip over trip threes, she flips over trip A's and i am down to 8 bucks...

The good news though is i managed to take that 8 dollars and turn it into 47. I gave 2 to a friend since we couldn't make change so i left up 15 bucks. I'm proud that i came back from short stack and made some cash...

Other than that, thats it. Again, i'm sorry for what i did, and it won't happen again...

I leave you with Whiplash, the cowboy monkey.

Update 2 by PplusAD, August 03

http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/2582/3augustgr2.jpg

I am on a good way back to Nl100 in no time after my cashout
Today was the first day since a long time where i run good !

Poker is a completely different game when u run good >_<
When u run bad and get coolerd and bad beatet like 2-3 times every 100 hands poker feels like hard work.
When u run as good as i did today then poker feels like eazy ship sick life !

Overall + 411 $ last 2 days in ~ 3,6K hands ( Including rakeback)

feels incredibly good to have easy sessions again

Also lol @ exvodsPhoenix
some BW players my know him for some great BW highlight movies
recently he was arrested for being involved in producing massive amount of NAZI propaganda Videos >_<. He also almost killed a 13year old girl and her 23 year old brother or whatever it was.

They were involved in some protest action vs Nazi guys in Germany
He beat the 13 year old girl on the head with a bottle and her brother with a spade ....
He could have very well killed them.
Girl was in serious danger for her life after the attack.

here is the famous BW Ger-Team trailer he made 2 years ago

he used a speech of Hitler in it but nobody took that serious ...
>-<

now 2 years later it becomes kinda ironic that one of the greatest movie makers in BW history actually was serious about that Nazi shit ...

stats + upgrades (pics) by Forrest Gump, August 03

Never posted June graphs, since it was a month for changes and exams. As a news 2 months ago I had plans to try new games, so I tried PLO8 and PLO. June was a bad month (-600) and July was OK. Only played PLO since last days of June
Here are the PLO July stats:

http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/6830/plojulyld0.png

FR are mostly shortstacking, trying to see how it does. Then switched to 6max 2 weeks ago

Now let's talk about present. Yesterday I showed a friend how to play LAG at NL50 (with no PT) and spewed $180 against the nits lol, that tilted me so much that I switched to PLO200 to show him that Omaha was the game to play and obv I donated 1K losing slightly favorite flips -_-
After spewing too much I decided that I could burn more money, since I lost all sensitivity for the money for the rest of the day and did the following upgrade:

before:

After:

lifetime @ stars by tloapc, August 03

Here is my lifetime graph in big blinds at Stars:
http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/c3511794a86ba168867a81b9df5ac477.jpg

You can tell where I was in the Army just burning money with some friends in my unit because we didn't give two shits.
You can also pretty easily tell where I got out of the Army, and then had to learn how to adapt and actually play if I was going to continue, as burning money had lost it's touch.
Also, those first 20-50k hands, I didn't multi table. I doubt I even knew what the term meant.
I do remember oh so clearly the very first day and first 3 hands I went over in PokerTracker though...
"Wow. What the FUCK am I doing?!"
ya, that was me

Tho this may look like a lot of hands, in all I've played a lot more than this in the past two years. After I found out what rakeback was I ended up playing a lot on other sites that offered it. I'd only play PokerStars in waves, usually just for fun or mainly for something different.
But as my choices have gotten smaller depositing/withdrawing, and trust issues, good software and customer service become more and more important, I only really play live or at Stars anymore. Right now the only place to play online in my book.

take care and gl all!

My 100NL FR Assessment by Exhilarate, August 02

This limit is one of the most fishiest, full of fuckin retards that overcall with complete garbage such as A4o, K7o, just complete random trash.
Then you have the fuckin idiots who call off 10% of their stack with AQo, and regs who call with crap like 65o.
I honestly don't know how these guys survive in 100NL.

Most people here basically nut peddle and don't get their stack in without a set, flush, or straight.
I find that it's harder to isolate players here because there's much more squeezing, and idiots love to peel flops with just two overcards.
And not many people respect c-bets here much either.

Also, everytime I go on a decent run and I'm starting to get back on track, I start getting sucked out and run card dead. Over, and over.
I suppose it's all standard, but man it's just stressful.
I may move back down to 50NL if it doesn't get any better.

Hmm also, in 50NL I used to isolate a ton of limpers and stack donks with hands that can make good top pairs, but last night I ran into people who flatted AA/KK and ended up stacking myself instead.

I suppose I just have to try my best to adjust to everything.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/0dd6026ca5cae8ec3f2eb06d1e0df56b.jpg

I was doing pretty well, thought this could finally be my big break to stay at 100NL, but it's like deja vu from June all over again.
I'm not going to stack off with AKo all in preflop anymore in late position wars, because I run into pocket pairs too often and lose.

so i got on this sick heater that has me 24.3PTbb/100 over my last 1400 hands and

87ptbb/100 over my last 280 hands

i got deeper stacked than id been in a while, something like 725bb's deep. heres a picture :O

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/20f62472ebc9aa5b29deaac6725ccaa9.jpg

this is the sickest hand from my little heater - AA v KK v QQ, for whatever reason they both cold call my preflop 3bet with my aces, and the flop comes rag rag rag 3 diamonds and we all had a diamond. SICK?

although id like to think if i were the guy with the queens i would have gotten out of there somehow, or maybe preflop

one of the main adjustments im finding in nl50 is that theres not enough weak loose players to satisfy my needs so im having to prey on the weak tights a little bit more; this is really what ive found to be the main difference between nl25 and nl50. so i act accordingly, mainly just proceeding with caution with all the nut peddlers and people that still dont know how to bet.

one of the things that definitely keeps it profitable is that a lot of the players at this level still dont know how to size their preflop 3bets and still have extremely tight ranges so i can cold call their 3bet and break them with pairs for extra profit.

cheers guys, gl on the tables
