doooooomswitch!
rockman255, May 15 2008

this happened over about 150 hands.

a good day?
rockman255, May 09 2008
so as i blogged earlier, i am still way down. having peaked just under $1k around maybe april 20, since then i have dropped about 1.5 buyins a day at nl25 and nl10 respectively depending on my br.
today i finally had a winning day, going up about 3.5 buyins (some hands were lost with that new pstars software glitch)
this was good. and i ran beautifully on hitting hands when other people had somewhat of a hand. (although i think once a guy calls my fh with a low underpair for 200bb pot..)
except, i ran really really bad in the sense that once the money got in, it didnt stick. i guess i should be happy that i can beat the cards, but having been loser for so long i am just depressed in general when it comes to poker, and life too i guess.
i was hoping this would be *the* day to really catch some cards. i'll have to wait for another, i think.

luckometer :P
rockman255, May 05 2008
i *think* this means i might still have hope and that i did get unlucky.
this is the luckometers readings for the month of april and beginninng of may.
im trying to start playing 9 tables in tight 1-2 hour sessions in nl10 on stars. i havent played much in the past week.

real men dont cry? / i need a poker doctor
rockman255, May 01 2008
i dont know what to do.
i have been on such a long downward spiral that i am constantly questioning my play, unsure of myself and to make matters worse i still truly believe i am getting below average cards.
i went essentially from $930-->$410 in the last 10 days on NL25.
i have assessed that a leak i have is definitely losing alot of money on my medium strength hands, or maybe thats not even a leak because im supposed to bet my pairs and thesee donks call anything. but every single time i have a pair with a good kicker the guy limp calls to the river with the absolute fucking nuts.
here are some hands from today, which i believe half are coolers and bad beats and just unlucky, and the other half are bad plays. so i guess i shouldnt have even finished up. down less though?
i only played 2000 hands today and i am down 3.6 buyins.
i dont think i have hit a single top pair with ak out of like 50 times, and any time i have had a set it instantly folded around to me.
add to that i seem to get repopped massively anytime i raise utg with 99-JJ or some other medium strength hand..
first hand of the day. nut flush flush over straight flush.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/436201
next: guy limps ak against my aq. i terribly misplay it, of course
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/436209
tpgk against flopped straight passive motherfuck, misplayed again
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/436224
tpgk against monster draw, who hits draw, i play perfectly lose the minimum .. i am happy?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/436225
i misplay this one, again tpgk against a guy who basically limps his way to the river with a set of queens. yay (case queen hits, by the way)
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/436226
i am a payoff wizard with 77 on straight board
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/436228
i misplay this 88 overpair on the board, try to get fancy and get raped by aces, however i lose fairly small all things considered?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/436234
i flop the monster draw, 2 overcards and flush draw against a guy who tries to slowplay his queens. they hold up, obviously
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/436236
i am a payoff wizard again, 2nd pair against full house
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/436239
kk v aa, i misplayed it but who gives a shit because i was destined to lose it?
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/436248
ka v qq, qq holds. duh
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/436262
top 2 pair vs top pair ace kicker, he rivers the ace. played properly
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/436263
last hand of the day: kk vs short stack who obviously flops a straight
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/436274
so, where does it all stop? i am probably playing terribly and these beats are what i perceive as leaks but are actually just completely normal variance?
how the fuck do i deal with a downswing that sets me back this far? i am supposed to go back to nl10 now?
what do i do now?
i realize this is only 2000 hands of recap today, but i have been experiencing this for excess of a week now. i want to slit my wrists every time i play a hand of poker.
i try to be positive. i try. especially with everyone irl telling me poker is non profitable and i am an idiot for trying it.
*sighhhhhhhhhhh*
yes. this is a bad beat post. flame me?
april : first LP month.
rockman255, Apr 29 2008
well, march definitely went worse, so i guess i have that to look up with.
a bit of background is that i played over 200 hours in march and went around $45-->$135 in nl2, nl5 and nl10 with very little information on how to play and no real idea what i was doing. i finished March with SilverStar status.
at the very end of march i met up with Reload on LP who was kind enough to introduce me to the website. for all of April i feel that i improved and played a better game . i did some nl5, nl10, nl25. i was rolled around 135 originally and now i am around 550.
my peak was around 930 at nl25 and for the last 5 or 6 days i have been on a major downward swing, losing about 10 buyins in total. i am sort of on life tilt but to make matters worse i do feel that i am getting a higher than average amount of draw outs / coolers.

of course, i guess every cloud has a silver lining and i pushed a little bit over the top to hit platinumstar for the first time. note that i really have not been playing a lot ever since ive been on a tough swing. because i have been running bad i try not to play too long if i feel i am making bad decisions and etc, so a lot of this came while i was still on a half decent run. maybe i need to play less.

My NL25 progress so far.
rockman255, Apr 23 2008
seems painful so far. i think i still have a lot of things to work on, the main leak i have is calling off my chips too often i think, *shrug*
nl25 has been like, up 100 one day, down 200 the next, up 250 the next day.. down 150 the next.. i havent had a string of good days, or a string of bad days.
is this winrate very low, or like below average, or above average, or what? i dont really know. >.<
i hope to hit $1000 and PlatinumStar before the end of April.. hopefully sooner than that. after that, i guess NL50 awaits.
i am still consciously trying to improve my game and i do feel the more practice i get the more stable my gameplay will get; part of being good at poker must be knowing to stop when you're down though, huh.

my other hobby : music. in particular, "house"
rockman255, Apr 18 2008
so, although right now i seem to be focusing way too much on poker, i actually do have a great interest in all types of music. i taught myself all of the basics of guitar over the last couple years but i really dont have too much creativitity.. that all went to my brother. i dont like to create my own, but i have a savant-like talent for recognizing song artists and titles, and in some way i think that applies to dj'ing since it is a very good thing to know your genre well.
anyway, i have something like 7 mixsets online all in the house music genre, i would say they are all mostly electro, progressive and tech house, with some minimal and trance.
i am not sure how popular this stuff is but since the website has members from all over the world perhaps some of you guys would enjoy listening to it. i really dont know.
anyway, in preparation for another trip to Guvernment in toronto tomorrow i made a double disc mix of a lot of recent tracks, and you guys are welcome to download it.
i split it into two pieces that are less than 80 minutes so that it can be burned to cd. unfortunately i cannot provide single mixed tracks because that would be far too much effort.
i dont really stray too far from the mainstream when it comes to house.. the stuff i choose is the same type of thing you would hear in a Paul Van Dyk, Armin Van Buuren type deal.
i was going by the nickname "dj avianflu" after my wow character avianflu. har har
my Spring ELECTRO/PROGRESSIVE house mix download:
part 1 : 60ish mb, 72ish minutes
http://www.musicv2.com/direct.php?id=47189
part 2 : 60ish mb, 72ish minutes again
http://www.musicv2.com/direct.php?id=47193
if you want to check out anything else, just click listen and a download link will also appear.
http://www.musicv2.com/artist/avianflu
as an additional aside i thought i would choose this time to also share that my brother is a somewhat well known graphic novelist. he produces a series of graphic novels called Scott Pilgrim; i think there is also a movie in the making produced by universal studios starring michael cera and directed by edgar wright.
these are his websites. i think his books have been published in at least a few different languages, polish i know for sure.
http://www.radiomaru.com/
http://www.scottpilgrim.com/
oh. and im at an all time high at around $763 bankroll on pstars. i wanted to quit while im ahead since im spending the weekend in toronto. sort of.
nl25: donkaments ahoy
rockman255, Apr 17 2008
my 2nd stab at nl25 has me now comfortably within a 25-30bi range.
i had some quirky hands today but by far this one took the cake.
i obviously should have put my last 90 cents in, but.. this is so awesome. :O
i shouldnt have said lol out loud. i was tired and i couldnt help it.

oh. and i just hit gold star for the first time. yay!
bad day or bad play..
rockman255, Apr 15 2008
i started out today really feeling that i was definitely playing my a game and getting drawn out on alot and despite losing a few buyins i was in relatively good spirits.
later on i was playing a similar game and started to pick up some cards..
and then i trickled back down to where i started.
and the confidence i worked so hard to build up has vanished again.
so i really don't know anymore. days like this make me want valium and stuff.
i want to say i had bad cards today, because i made an extra effort to fold where i knew i was beat, i think my biggest leak is paying off big hands..
i do feel that i got sucked out on a lot today, but i think most people still bank when that happens, right?
i try to link stuff on forums and get advice when i know i terribly misplay hands and try to improve and stuff, i think
i don't know. once again, i feel like maybe i just dont have what it takes, because 6500 hands have got me nowhere, once again.

i just want to know if its to blame on me, or the cards. although its probably a combination of both.
a good day:)
rockman255, Apr 13 2008
so.. i went up to nl25 a few days ago and lost a few buyins there over a few thousand hands, then i went back to nl10 and tilted off about another ten buyins. this was all very sad overall i went about $580-->$400.
anyway, i worked saturday, came home and played and went up about $15 over like 5k hands. which was annoying. worked again today, came home, ate a nice dinner :-) and then played some more nl10 and today happened to catch a lot of cards i guess.. and i think because ive been catching cards ive been able to make laydowns that were killing me in previous days a lot easier knowing im still way up.
i upgraded my software somewhere in there, maybe around $450. i paid full price to buy poker tracker 2 and poker ace hud which are both fantastic and i am very happy to support the creators.
heres the chart for this sunday, and ill link the two highlights of my day, one massive 3-way heater: nut straight vs middle set vs bottom set off the flop, and a cooler hand where a guy felts me with a gut shot higher straight over my nut flop straight.
heater: http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/424794
cooler: http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/424816
i apologize for whining on my earlier blog post. i really dont know where im at, at all. so i don't want to come across as melodramatic or conceited or anything like that. anyway, if 1 bi / 1k hands is a good winrate, then i should have just posted that i was very happy.
hopefully i can just get back on track and continue my nl10 grind. i don't want to go back to nl25 until at least 800 if not 1000 on my bankroll mainly because i am mentally not prepared; with the loss on my mind i will really be playing on scared money if i dont have that many bi's.
