In my poker collection there used to be over a hundred books, now I have nine, deleted the ones I felt weren't worth having. Three of these books are written by the same author. And now I have the privilege & honor of writing my very first book review of this man's next book, "How I Made My First Million From Poker".

+ Show Spoiler +

The book greets you with a short foreword by Barry Greenstein (for those of you who don't know who that is, that's the guy who kissed Shannon Elizabeth, as shown here in this clip). + Show Spoiler +

Anyway, after a picture where Nguyen displays his smashing set of hair, we move on to business. When I first got the book, I couldn't stop reading. I chose to read through it first, then re-read it afterwards, where I proceeded to write over 30 pages with extensive notes.

The book consist of 20 chapter, all of them seem to be about stuff you "need to know/should know" when it comes to poker. It's fairly easy to read and feels a little bit like a mixture of Ace on the River & The Poker Blueprint all mashed into one. A little story like, but with poker content that helps you delve deeper and think more clearly about the game.

My favorite chapters were the ones about making your own Poker Journal, tracking sessions using excel, how balancing ranges helps me hand read better and what he likes to call "My Secrets to Crushing".

I immediately started a Journal using Evernote at the end of each day, only to re-read what I wrote the very next morning. (Feels pretty awesome so far), and the excel doc handles itself, calculates how much you are up or down. (You just type in the numbers and it does he math).

We also get to hear his thoughts on topics such as Tilt, Bankroll Management, Downswings, Routines and his take on how to make passive income with poker. The book is at times very "personal", has emphasize very clearly on his personal views and take on things, how he approached poker, and how he overcame the challenges on the way. Rocking back and forth from "Poker theories" to "Poker stories".

Every chapter also ends with one or more exercises. So it's pretty fun to read one chapter at the time, and then spend some extra time on the exercises, take a break, get some water, and then go back at it again.(I feel material stick so much better if you do it this way).

Here's an example of an exercise, (there are roughly 20 - 30 of these throughout the book):+ Show Spoiler +

So there you have it folks <3, and after release date, with Tri's approval avcourse, I will post my notes on it + my own answers to all the questions.

Ps, + Show Spoiler +

Thanks for the review Marius.

I would be ecstatic if you guys share the notes. The more you learn, the better.

I will do it then, I just have to be very careful. When I re-wrote the whole Eightfold-path, I got a really warm mail, writing how awesome it was to read, Tommy Angelo even asked if he could have my notes to use in the future for his students.

So I went about and did the same with some of Balugawhale's work, and he got pretty pissed, saying it was plagarism, and I had to take it down. Obviously, being all manner and polite I took it down and wrote a letter of apology.

You gotta love Tri though lol, cheers. (I'll put the notes up on christmas, the 24th).

I originally hid it in one of my comments under a blog post ages ago. Couldn't find the original one when I made this, so it doesn't have the proper spacing, so a little hard to read.

It's 10th from the top, there's also notes from Let There Be Ranges.

I don't release any content regarding shortstack play and never will.

The main reason the series is on our website is CAP play has gotten very popular on Stars (mostly due to the shut down of FTP and it's easier than 100BB games). Some of our readers asked how to play when they have a shortstack. My goal is for Daily Variance to provide the most valuable and trustworthy products for poker players.

Also, I play poker for a living so I know how annoying it is when non-poker players make certain assumptions about me. It's the same concept with short-stack play or bumhunting. As long as they're not cheating, people can do whatever they want. It's their right. It's the same openness we would like those outside of poker to have when we tell them we play poker for a living.

Lastly, some of these players have families to feed and bills to pay. Not everyone is an 18-year old poker prodigy. And sometimes, they have to do what they gotta do to feed their families. I would never feel bad for helping those in need.

That got me thinking, why would that help us know who Barry Greenstein is ? :o

Of all the things you could say that explains to us who Barry Greenstein is you choose that....

Btw if you play any poker or follow it doesnt matter how you should know who he is

and yea nice blog might read that book now ive had on my computer for some time now but never read it

I do what i have to do to support my family as well. Dont use that excuse pls. Your exploiting the market for your own financial well being. Thats what it comes down to. As a true poker player id figure you would understand that, these 40bb stacks completely destroy our 100bb games.. If you were still playing mid stakes on stars you would know. Now your just profiting off your past success and through ebooks etc.

All I am saying is we DO NOT have the right to judge others on what they do for a living.

As for exploiting the market for my own financial well-being, of course that's what I am doing. Why would I make an excuse for something that is so obvious and normal? We are all poker players. We do it EVERY DAY.

handbanana21   United States. Dec 05 2011 01:40. Posts 3037

Its a scumbag thing to do. Plain and simple. Good for you to not have to play small-midstakes anymore. But your screwing around with our hourly by educating people who dont work as hard as I do studying the game, by teaching them ways to exploit OUR 100bb games (obv they arent all going to play cap. Dont try to weasel out of that one. ) I know im entitled to my opinion. But as a hardcore lp member in which i try to give back the most i can, I would hope that you guys dont support Tri in his selfish endeavors.

How have you given back the most you can?

I've read most of your blogs, not once have you given back that I can recall, it's selfish endavours, seeking recognition, posting pictures of yourself partying so forth.

I grew a ton reading his books, so I'm entitled to my opinion as well.

You seem to be a much better player than I am, and I've given a lot more back than you have. Time to step it up mate xD

I'm looking forward to reading this one. I really liked the previous books by Tri (and Cole).

For those who dislike 40bb's stacks: deep stack ante games.

90% of my posts are commenting on hand discussions. A blog is about yourself. That feels like enough for me. Anyways, Tri had his initial response to me pre-written because i got that same response when i sent my initial email to him. So he was already prepared for the backlash. Maybe im being bitter? I duno, I def have more reasons about his business decisions before he made the cap book that was frustrating too. Ill stop derailing your blog. But to call me out saying that my blogs are selfish, when you have no clue what ive given back on lp, just to make your buddy look better is pretty scummy.

Mariuslol   Norway. Dec 06 2011 06:19. Posts 4742

Fair point with the blog, and the commenting on hand discussions do deserve props.

I still feel you're overly sensitive about the topic and clouded by self-entitlement. We're all trying to "exploit" as good as we can in poker, then we start making rules to what and what isn't allowed. To me 24 tabling, with programs, analysis, hud, nit style feel more "difficult" to find a weak spot in than 40bb stacks.

Not calling you douchey, scummy or anything like that. And I definitely didn't mean to "call you out". I felt you were overly critical and were "attacking". I am not defending him because I see him as a friend. I'm defending because some of his work helped me so I can live more comfortable at a higher limit.

And to your end, you're blowing it a little bit up out of propotion, or maybe I'm reasonating with your text in a more malicious sound then what initially ment.

Ps, derail all you want =]

Pps, let's make this "discussion" a win/win
