with so much better material to use that metaphor with like teen-mom, horaders or American Idolesque garbage, you chose so poorly Hicks is turning in his grave.

I use the ledger nano s.

Cold storage with paper wallets is the best though. Those metal things with symbol tiles that you can hide In a concrete wall

ah. cos that other guy was so interested in the technology, asking all sorts of questions. he probably bought a lot too. I never did at that point. i was there because genjix wanted to build a bitcoin poker site, dubbed "the home game".

You are a little late to the party with that comment. Seems like an opportune time to be cashing out.

It's hard to explain but basically it means writing your password down on a piece of paper, putting on a text file on your desktop or on a thumb drive, having it engraved on a metal dog tag you wear around your neck, whatever, so that nobody could ever hack your account. Of course if you lose the paper you're screwed, and I believe they estimate something like $3 billion USD worth in bitcoin is lost forever due to unrecoverable accounts.

Its actually 55 billion dollars worth of BTC lost on the blockchain at this point (3.7 million BTC) at current prices.

Coins are kept on the blockchain at different specific public addresses. Coins themselves never leave the blockchain. Your wallet is just a collection of the keys to locate and then move the BTC. Each public address where the BTC is stored has an associated private key which is necessary to transfer the coin to another address.

So a paper wallet is just keeping your private keys off of the internet, off of electric devices, and just written down somewhere. This is the safest way to hold BTC assuming you don't lose or destroy the paper wallet.

A hardware wallet I think is the best mix of safety, backup, and convenience. For huge amounts though a paper wallet in a safety deposit box is a good way to go.

Obvious thing to do is to liquidate some of your position and hodl the rest

Vandermyde

Did you scrape the Bitcoin Cash out of your wallets after the fork a couple months ago? Could be a nice chunk of change you didn't know you had.

Trax and Newb thank you very much. I already had an idea what it meant but it's better now that somebody else confirms it clearly to me. If I buy I'd probably go that route and put it in a piece of paper in a vault and just back have a backup if it's broken into.
