World of Jenks - Episode 6 feat. Nick Schulman

Show Description

World of Jenks is a documentary series starring Andrew Jenks, and running on MTV. The show showcases the lives of inspirational young people from various locations of the United States. Andrew Jenks moves in with a different stranger for a week to experience their life from their perspective.

Episode 6 - The Takeover

As a filmmaker, I've never really had a 9 to 5 job. That may sounds pretty cool, but it also means that I didn't know where my next paycheck was coming from. I wanted to meet someone making the same kind of hustle. We talked to a lot of players, but none had a story as crazy as our subject. At age 21, Nick Schulman became the youngest person to win the World Poker Tour, taking home $2,142,000, then lost it all within a year. I couldn't believe it. Where does two million dollars go?

Battling depression and anxiety, Nick became an inspiration as someone who struggles everyday and is open to expressing his emotions. On his quest to make back his money, old habits are hard to break: expensive dinners, insane nights at the club, and of course- girls. Nick went from having it all to having to start over from scratch. In a game where the stakes don't get higher, how is it possible to keep from going broke? And what happens if Nick wants to just call it quits?

all I see here is this nick guy being depressed and shit, is that supposed to be the point?

thought it was a pretty depressing watch and overall it seemed very true to the reality of poker

i'm about 7 mins in and it was really odd for me to hear someone tell his story about his panic attack in school. he described exactly what happened to me and why i had to quit school.

maybe it was in poor taste.

edit: just finished watching and he said he was depressed before poker. i guess i did judge him a little to quickly. poker is certainly not for him though. hope he finds happiness in something else.

anthony pettis is a beast too. hes gonna be a star i think. his striking is very fast and continues to improve. hope he gets a little less flashy and a lot more technical with his boxing. in his last fight though being able to shutdown a great wrestler like shane roller is super impressive.

Takeover lost a lot of his money in highstakes live games. I think he had one sick night where he was playing some huge limit holdem game 3 handed with david oppenheim and a big fish and lost like a million.
