i actually think its much more likely that this money actually ends up helping than in "well organized fundraisers".

seriously? that was a perfectly legitimate response

edit: i mean you're asking people to send you money for nothing based solely on what you're saying and when someone questions it (in a perfectly reasonable way) you're going to throw out some profanity laced tirade and tell him it isn't his place to ask for verification (he's a potential donator of course it's his fucking place to ask). that's pretty ridiculous and it's really a shame given that this is in all likelihood a very solid way to donate money to people that really need it.

I agree he should keep a cool head but im sure if anyone else had asked he would have responded reasonably.

I def dont agree about donating to a 'well run' charity though.I'm with Baal, this is much more likely to do some good.

Title is somewhat misleading assuming milkman didnt ask Meat or Naz.

I think that milkman went off like this mostly because it's wobbly.

this is very kind of you milkman, but if i may be honest i'm not sure making it look official was the best thing to do... with the banner and all. it's not like it needs hype, it's charity.

$50 sent on FTP - Q********* (Laval) ... don't disclose my FTP name in this thread please, thanks.

Why are you getting mad? A lot of people share the same feelings as Wobbly here. Why is it anger-inducing if we want to know exactly where our money is going?

i do find it quite strange that you can simply put a $550 price tag on digging a well deeper.. that's a pretty big project afaik. is it for shovels? hiring heavy equipment/operators? i am curious to be honest, and your unprofessional attitude doesn't help things milkman...

regardless, gl! good cause to be sure

this disturbs me a bit... not the best way to present his devotion to this volunteer work.

And about the fact that there will be a pic of it, I understand that it is important to know that your money has been spent efficiently, but you do realize that charity is not about "braggin". There are tons of goof volunteer projects that will not end in such a construction, such thing you can see, and still are super useful (some against illness spread for example). Maybe I'm going too far (really don't want to sound as Wobbly... ) but, as said above, it is not the best way to present this project imo.

that said, I will send you 10, can't do now, but feel free to pm if i forget.

sorry for shitty english.Last edit: 09/08/2010 12:16

I don't know exactly how it works but my sister was involved in something like this a few years ago and had friends in africa and once told me too that with $500 will do A LOT over there. Its stupid for us to believe that with that amount of money they can make stuff like that, but I guess thats the reality.

listen guys i understand that i looked harsh in my response to wobbly, the truth is, i hate that kid.. at first he did ask a few questions, and i responded nicely and fully.. then if you look 2 posts down its him saying that hes not going to donate and just shining a bad light on the whole deal..and thats where he pissed me off.. i wouldnt have responded the way i did if he had just said something like " i didnt like your response to my question so im not going to donate" or anything like that.. but thats not what he did.. he just shat on my stuff and made me feel like not even doing this anymore, and i got pissed.. anyways if anyone has any other questions please ask and ill answer them more fully...

basically its just all about raising money to dig a well deeper to bring water back to a village named Kaaliti in Uganda

And in response to using LPs name i edited out my first image and i will send naz and joy a message letting them know if they dont like the title to please edit it. cuz i cant.

alright here's a question

how devoted is your friend to being a volunteer? i understand the majority of volunteers don't intend to remain volunteers for good, they do it for the experience and the help with college/grad school. with that said, is he there just relaxing and enjoying the place and helping people or is he genuinely devoted to sacrificing all the time and energy he has to help these people? reason why im asking is that if he really is devoted to the cause then i don't see why we would want to stop at $550 since im sure he could put the extra money to very good use.

my friend is in no way a like full time life volunteer, hes going to school to be a doctor.. he has been doing things around our city to volunteer like working with mentally disabled adults and some out of control kids to keep um off the streets and stuff like that.. but its mainly volunteer work to help out people in general and look good on his med school applications.. so thats why he went to africa, it was to help out, but also look good on his medschool app.. While he is in africa he is devoted to sacrificing all his time and energy (except for soccer sundays) on helping the people out. The reasons i dont want to try and raise more than $550 are that he approached me with this idea and project only, and that was the price tag.. i also think trying to raise too much money for something like this would look sketchy.. also he is with a group called "show mercy" and im pretty sure they have plenty of money to take care of the kids around the orphanage for the day to day stuff.

i just did it for a bit of privacy for his sake.. but i have nothing to hide, if you wanna go for it then be my guest... mezmerizeplz, doomer, yomer, and rush have all met him and hung out with him before.. its no big deal.
