$550 for rent is very reasonable for where you are! I just had a 2 br. apt for $810 a month in your area. Lots of people out there are looking to rent for cheap. Almost all places around have a gym included in the complex that you can use, so you might not need a membership to start with. Allow a little more for food though.

fml 200$ a month is considered expensive for car insurance in usa? I pay like $600 for fully comprehensive.

why live in the USA? you can easily live off $500 a month in some hot country next to the beach fucking foreign girls... In Kosovo I was spending €150/month for a bungalow! internet was €15 and a meal in a good restaurant was €2. Didn't pay my utilities.

Absolute bare minimum plan to be 1.5k cause your forgetting about other necessities i.e. hygiene/grooming, cell phone, gas will most certainly be more than 50$/month(mines closer to 200$), and then if you manage to scrape underneath it (you prob won't) you can work with it

200$ for food isnt way too low

U just have to really concern yourself with what u eat.
u can easily spend 350$ a month on food getting the same quality u can get spending 200$ a month on food.

you just have to eat a lot of rice, nuddles , toast etc. from superstores and u can get nice stuff for low price

i moved out 3 month ago and spend like 600€ a month overall ( i live together with my GF though in a 70m2 3 rooms flat)
Just get a roomate to 1/2 the rent

If you are eating primarily rice and noodles you aren't "concerning yourself with what you eat". You are eating a bunch of crap all month = Food should be way more than $200/mo. At least if you care about what you're eating, where it comes from and if it's actually healthy for you. Artificially ripened, nutritiously void produce and an assortment of crap filled with insane amounts of sodium(for "flavor" and empty carbs isn't good for you = I'd rather live in a place I didn't like and eat high quality food than live in a place I find okay and eat crappy food.

wow check out your car insurance company. I'd recommend Allstate, although a lot of your car insurance rate depends on the area in which you live so maybe you can't escape high rates. I'm 22 years old with a clean driving record and have full coverage on my Honda S2000 and only play ~$100/month but I have Wawanesa now (only available in Cali and Oregon) but I used to have Allstate and only payed $120/month.

Also if you want a place with cheap rent try Buffalo, NY lol You can rent 2 bedroom houses for ~$400-$500/month in the suburbs.

Lol I pay $60 a month for car insurance.

I would say 200 a mo on food is somewhat reasonable. I spend roughly 100-150 every 12-15 days so if you really wanted to you could shop at like price right and just buy non name brand shit and be more than well off.

Its time to stop thinking like a bitch and think smart like a poker player - ketLast edit: 20/11/2009 14:49

QFTMFT!

That post tilted me so hard... Pplus trains MMA too I can't believe he just buys these box foods and thinks it's just fine to get by.

$200/month for food is WAY too low even if you don't give a crap about eating healthy. $350/month is more reasonable.

thanks for the thoughts all, and yeah about $500 more/month in random bullshit spending/extra food-restaurants spending is pretty accurate. Its true I don't want to live like a pauper while I'm busting my ass grinding best I can. Probably increase projected food to $350.. starting Dec. 1st I'm going to keep good track of my expenses for the month and see where I'm at and where exactly my money goes.

k2o4/Brett:
basically she has a very consistently horrible attitude towards everyone, is extremely verbally abusive 'n gets in hysteric fights keeping me up at night or just adding stress during the day, has 3 badly trained dogs who tear up the house (I _HATE_ going downstairs, to cook, do laundry, hang out, etc never happens. I'm home a lot and I'm basically locked in my room the whole time, I can't stand being in a trashed living room etc.) plus they (the dogs) keep me up at night barking (ENORMOUS problem for me). Plus there's another whole slew of problems I'm constantly exposed to via all of my mom's and grandma's problems. Additionally I'm supposed to be everyone's rock that they can lean on and talk to, dealing with my mom breaking down and crying 2x a week, all of my sister's numerous problems, my sister's b/f's problems with my sister, trying to prevent my grandma from giving anymore money to thieving piece of shit MLM/pyramid schemes etc. I know everyone has problems and mine probably aren't anything unique and aren't 'totally extreme' but it really wears on me when I'm trying to do my best to excel at my current goal (poker) which is already stressful enough.. plus I have my own problems to deal with anyway FFS.. I just feel like being in a calmer and more stable atmosphere would be good for me.

I mean, its not all bad. Obviously there are benefits to being here like saving some money on groceries, occasional cooked meal, my sister isn't all bad 100% of the time and we hang out drama free for ~an hour a week which is nice, but I can't take the weight of everyone else's FKN problems ontop of my own.

What sucks is I kind of think it would be best to wait until I go visit Vegas next summer. TOO LONG LOL.. maybe I'll come up with an alternative in the meanwhile though.

Well yeah but your car is more than 3x as valuable as my own, and I have completely barebones insurance with no fluff too. If i got similar coverage to you it'd probably cost me nearly $500/month and my fucking car has a bluebook of like 4-5k.

night, I think you should take this opportunity to travel the world. There are tons of places where u can live very well for 1K a month.

If you 6 table NL200 for 4 hours a day, 5 days a week, you will be able to cover your living expenses on rakeback alone. Treat it like a job where you have a set schedule for grinding. I mean 20 hours a week of work is nothing and you'll have so much time to enjoy your youth and experience the world all without ever touching your bankroll.

I'd love to and this is my whole goal with poker (well, and making enough money to have some freedom down the road). I keep pushing it back because I don't feel like I have enough monies yet.

Good thought tho.. I am gonna have to think about it. Any suggestions? I might have to make a blog for ideas.

I have some things holding me back tho, lots to think about..

$200 a mo for car insurance is WTF? especially if your record is clean. What kind of car do you drive? I pay $800 a year.
