I would back you up 100% if you live life to follow every rule. What I mean is, any rule that is broken, whether it's in poker or real life, you report. Some people are like that, and that's fine. Reporting Elky in this situation would be 100% correct. But my question to you is, do you live life to meet all the rules? Like... do you file your poker taxes to every single penny? If you didn't, how would it feel if someone else reported you, because you cheating $100 off your taxes?

Also to everyone else, wobbly didn't choose the punishment for Elky, Pokerstars did. I don't know if Wobbly, knew, but if he did, that would be a different story.

So, my words are, if you follow every rule in life, poker, etc..., I will back you up 100%

Personally I think that the rule sounds a little silly in the first place but once I read the long post about the logic behind it I suppose it is there for a somewhat good reason. The fact that Elky broke the rule in such an open context obviously shows he didn't really understand it was against the rules/a big deal. This doesn't make me an Elky fan-boy it just means I don't think Elky is stupid enough to break a rule in such an obvious way if he knew about it. The fact that you make a thread attacking Elky's character as a poker player was not appropriate. You easily could have made an objective post like "Rule Broken" and then in the OP stated that Elky broke this rule in the Re-buy and was punished for it. You could then say in your OP that you agreed with the punishment and asked the rest of LP whether they agree or disagree with it. The way you came off in your OP it basically looked like you wanted to wear this moment as some kind of badge of honor -- you were the man, sticking it to the guy who broke the law -- or something along those lines and it kind of makes you look like a dick.

i have no problems with wobbly reporting elky as he seems to have warned elky that it was against the rules and he didn't want this happening on his table (no idea why not though lol).

but this is just douchery: wobbly says: "props to stars for providing a fair site to play on." To actually insinuate that elky is a cheater is pretty low.

I think a lot of people are over-reacting and calling wobbly a huge faggot without good reason.

What he's done and his attitude to this matter is indeed faggoty, but not the ultimate faggotry that is being implied originally by FrinkX and repeated by many others.

Unfortunately for Elky, what he was doing IS against the rules and Nazgul has explained quite logically WHY it is against the rules.

According to Wobbly, which is what makes this unfair imo; Elky and his partner were folding hands whenever some one else limped in or raised/shoved prior to them. This minimises their EV- that they would otherwise be 'donating' the rest of the table had they chosen to call a random shove with 72o anyway. It's not true gambooling what they're doing, they're actually increasing their stack sizes relative to the field and minimising their risk of donating chips to other players by sometimes folding. Even if both Elky and his partner end up spewing tonnes, everyone ELSE on the table ends up with the chips will have an unfair advantage over the rest of the field.

What Nazgul said about how social attitudes and the whole concept of 'owing allegiance' to someone of high stature in the community, I also agree with 100%. You may say it's the 'top bloke' thing to ignore things, because 'on the whole, they have a good heart', but this leniency really does open the door to more ruthless people to come in and start to subtly break rules for their own selfish gains.

Fact is, the rules say what Elky did is wrong, hence it's not a 'shitbloke' thing to tell him what he did is unfair. However, reporting it to Stars is a bit extreme; Wobbly you could have just educated Elky in the chat or PM'd him rather than report him.

The key dif between this poker example and the example Baal gave of your friend smoking weed is, with the poker you (and everyone else) has a stake in the outcome of the tournament. However, if your friend decides to smoke weed, you don't have any vested interest in the matter; telling the cops or his parents etc. that they tried weed is a pretty fucking gay thing to do. You're essentially imposing your own beliefs onto some one else for NO reason. You could argue that you're doing it 'for their own good', in which case I would say that if you truly want to help them, you should confront them directly about it rather than go behind their back and inevitably cause arguments.

Overall wobbly your attitude and approach to this matter has been pretty horrible. You're justified in trying to make Elky do the 'right' thing, but reporting him to stars then announcing it on this forum with your attitude was terrible. I hope you are smart and humble enough to admit that while your cause was just, your actions were socially inappropriate. I'd respect you very much if you could apologise to Elky for the way in which you handled the matter both with Pokerstars and on this forum.

Agreed 100%. Obviously Elky didn't know it was against the rules and wobbly could've handled this a lot better by simply letting him know in the chat. However a lot of people here are making it sound like he was going allin every hand and just donating chips to all the players, if that was true this thread wouldn't exist. Raszi's analogy of a player shoving any two in a cash game is ridiculous, a better analogy was brought up earlier in the thread; big fish in a cash game w/ a deep stack and two regs who know each other chip dump so that they can cover the fish. If that happened on my table i'd not even wait for the session to finish - i'd report it immediately.

Elky broke the rules. I see no reason why he should not be disqualified.

He should, however, be refunded his rebuys.

And there should be no "timeout period", that's stupid wtf.
