Who knows about title. I just wanted to share I slayed it in the gym tonight. Back workout to White Zombie and Pantera. I was a bit stronger than I thought I would be but I am far away from the 500+ rack pulls from the shin, and 120 lb DB Rows for 12 reps I used to crush. I am too nervous to try pull ups. I am scared I won't even be able to do 1 and I used to hang weight for reps. I am feeling good though. I have my creatine and protein coming in the mail. It really is all about consistency and discipline though. I can't get it all back in a day. It's fun though. It gives me something to do. Picks me up. I don't have to stress over Gemini taking forever to validate my account and my Trezor wallet not working. But, here I go off to coincap to check everything again....

Anyways....

I braved a massive snowstorm to make it to the gym this morning. The streets hadn't even been cleared yet, it wasn't possible to use the sidewalk. I had to walk in the middle of the street with the occasional car passing very close to me. One car tried to avoid me (I think) but exaggerated and ended up crashing in a big pile of snow and he got stuck. Fun stuff.

I pictured the scenario and it made me laugh pretty hard. It's also pretty badass.

I remember I have a blog on here a looong time ago about asking for music to brave blizzards and deadlift a bunch of weight:

It was actually squat a bunch of weight but here it is

Man, searching for that I have posted a lot of shit on here.

Loco, you're into metal aren't you? What might be some artists/songs to check out specifically for lifting heavy ass weight? Maybe, also for rowing in beast mode for 20-30 min.?

And, I will just open it up to the floor. It doesn't have to be Scandi. Let's collaborate on a sick collection.

Last suggestion I got (not specifically metal) was:

Black Sabbath, Motorhead, Led Zeppelin, Bad Brains, and Cro Mags which obv is great but I am looking to go deeeeper. HEAVIER. Whoooooooooo!

200 km of cross country so far this season. been trying to crack 500 for 5 years but there hasn't really been enough snow/been too busy - I think this year I might manage, cuz I've never gotten this much done by mid january before.

That is awesome.

Where I live they don't even have snowploughs. It snowed 6 inches and it shut the whole city down for 3 days. No cross country skiing for me .

It's a nasty business but dopamine is dopamine. An ass is an object. Breasts are an object. I am using women and myself to get my rocks off. I realize the hyper moaning is important too. The other night I had the sound turned down and it wasn't nearly as stimulating.

You get nothing out of "More Human than Human" by White Zombie or "Walk" by Pantera?

Damn. I need to scale up my drugs. Give me some hits maaan.

Fuck creatine fucks up your kidneys I was waking up at night to go to bathroom on that and it made no difference to me in other ways. The reason might be because I had enough creatine already from eating steak everyday and very rare. I take the position now that I won't consume anything out of a lab its all just marketing and its not natural. As for protein powder seems like a waste of time I'd rather just eat real food. Even those herb supplements I was taking I used to think its 'just herbs' fuck no herbs are not just herbs they're powerful as fuck and messed with my thalamus gland sleep was fucked up.

Nothing whatsoever. I would get the same pump with Miley Cyrus, tbh. I like some of the more melodic songs by Pantera like Cemetary Gates, Hollow and Floods, I grew up listening to that, but it's just not going to cut it as gym music for me. Like, I was already listening to Death when I in elementary school thanks to my brother:

I just had a "squat" workout to Amon Amarth. I am just doing beginner workouts. I did 84 walking lunges over 3 sets, some crunches, and then a handful of burpees before I was like fuck this. It was like I didn't want the gym to see me struggling through burpees so I just quit. Great attitude. I still need to check my ego constantly.

I have also changed my perspective on training seeing heavy weightlifting as a very stupid and vain thing to do. By far the safer and healthier way to train is to do calisthenics and stuff like hiking and outdoor activities.
Most people are not built to handle heavy weights and end up with most commonly knee and lower back issues if you do something stupid like starting strength where you just ramp up the weights all the time you need to have the body type for it aka the big boned bulky type naturally even then your form needs to be perfect. Overall it is just ego training for numbers but it leads to nothing in the end. The only thing I would do is trap bar deadlifts and farmers walks.
In the real world outside of bar fights it is never 1 on 1 and being bulky is just a hindrance since you need to run the fuck away most of the time if your training for larping reasons of fighting then it does not help unless you have the perfect situation. If training for the perfect body the bodybuilding perhaps but its gay as fuck and you get unnatural proportions.
Instead easiest way to train in the world pullups, dips, pushups (entire upper body sorted very safely and no proportion issues) then core with side planks/planks etc. (focus on core its the most important imo sit ups are not safe) Legs you can do hiking, sprinting, plyometrics, lunges, reverse lunges etc. I would add in farmers walks with suitcases
Also this

look into stuart mcgill if you want to train that way

I used to be friends with these two metalhead chicks and their favorite band was Amon Amarth. Ever since then I've always seen the band as metal for girls (they were in high school). It makes no sense at all but it's just the kind of irrational connection a brain makes sometimes. "Can't unsee" type of thing. I thought it would be fun to mention it. They also liked the folk/"viking" metal subgenre a lot. I always found that genre cliché and stale. Wintersun and Moonsorrow are alright though.

So, I listen to metal for high school girls... hahahaha. I like it. It has like a triumphant vibe to it. The music not the fact that I lift weights to teeny bopper metal.

Twilight Of The Thunder God
Free Will Sacrifice
Guardians of Asgaard
Where Is Your God?
Varyags Of Miklagaard
Tattered Banners And Bloody Flags
No Fear For The Setting Sun
The Hero
Live For The Kill
Embrace The Endless Ocean

I mean come on.

The genre is a bit cliche. I can't deal with a lot of it. Something like Korpiklaani I thought was kind of fun but I never listened to too much of it at a time.

Loco   Canada. Jan 14 2018 22:53. Posts 20963

lol, I saw them live at one point and I can tell you there were a lot of guys there, but still, since my intro to them was from teeny bopper metalheads I can't help it.

I was listening to some scandinavian metal inspired bands at the time that you might like. These are two songs from my two favorite albums from my early brootal days:

Listened to Ruins of Beverast while giving my dog a 2 mile walk. I had a sick pace going. Good stuff. The one song with the tribal chanting brought me back to when I was listening to Native American rain dance and war dance music. I was absolutely nuts but it was some goood training.

It also reminded me of a time in the psych ward (and other times) when I thought my manic powers could be used to charge other people up. Not literally charge them up but my mania could bring people energy. I was talking to a Native a lot at the time who said in Native culture this is very true. They don't treat people's "diseases" they see them as gifts and work with them. I was on my way to get an honorary Native name and everything but then he moved and I moved. What a brilliant culture though.

Anyways, I'll listen to one of the other ones while I clean my desk.

Going back, that is an ego thing too wanting a name. I was happy enough just spending time with these guys and learning.

The point here is that I like very tribal essences. Drumming, chanting, dancing. If that is mixed with metal I might hit new power levels.

Yeah, that's my favorite album of the year I think (and I listened to a lot of stuff). Something about it. Just keeps getting better and better over time. The guy behind the band (there is only one person, playing all of the instruments) is actually coming to play in Montreal in a few months, it's his first show in North America. I'm super pumped.

That would be a mistake. Death is one of the most influential metal bands of all time. They make every single top ten list you could possibly find along with Sabbath, Slayer, etc. They are the originators of extreme metal. I've been listening to them for twenty years (and playing their stuff). It doesn't get much better than Death to get into extreme metal.

Aosoth was good. I would listen again. Sometimes the music seems to get a bit garbled noise. Garbled may not be the right word. More like it just gets one frequency of noise. You can still here the drums going and the guitar but it sort of blends together. I don't really like that. But, other points were epic. I love Premises of Miracles.

I'll listen to more Death.

I was driving super fast and aggressive listening to Aosoth. I have to watch out for that. I have a history of wild and reckless driving and losing licenses. I wouldn't say I am that wild or reckless it's just that I drive as if it is my own personal rally race or Gumball 3000. It's one of my defects that has been pretty well under control until tonight. Good sign for the gym though.

Yeah, it makes perfect sense for you to hear it that way. You have to develop your ear with extreme music. It takes a considerable amount of time to be able to pick up on the many nuances. Especially with this type of extremely fast-paced, chaotic black metal. Usually good headphones are a must. There are a lot of bands that are more melodic and will leave a better impression on you coming from a more standard heavy metal background. This is just what I'm listening to now as an avid extreme music listener -- I shared it so you have an idea of how dark and heavy shit can really get. This is how I've personally learned to cope with life; it allows me to not do stupid self-destructive shit and injure myself or others.

I have been listening to more Death and I really like the Symbolic album.

The CD in my car was Tool "Aenima" and I had a song in my head so played it because I think that releases more endorphins.

Are these even on your radar?

Even just as music is concerned? The drumming on Ticks and Leeches though. Or, is that amateur hour compared to some metal out there?

How bout a song about LA being a cesspool and going down to natural disasters?

Anyways, my workout today I was meant to do a bunch of pullups. 8 sets of max pullups. That seems like stupid volume. I don't know if I even like this protocol. It is stupid volume followed by abs followed by cardio everyday. I am still sore from my back workout 2 days ago so said fuck it and went to the one I did furthest away which was overhead press and that is 8 sets of max handstand holds (with help from a wall). I was fucked after 2 sets so just said fuck it and rowed for 15 min. Takitum Tootem (Trance) by The Ruins of Beverast is a jammm. That whole album is great. I have to get to the other 2. So, I guess I am still in the fuck around the gym and get to know the place stage. I at least know where 2 concept 2 rowing machines are, kettlebells, etc.

Loco   Canada. Jan 15 2018 20:09. Posts 20963

I was listening to Tool 20 years ago as well, same period as Death. I was big on them. I didn't really follow/care for the rest of their career, but I still look fondly upon AEnima and it gets the rare revisit. The singer is a piece of shit though and I think the band appeals to a lot of pseudo-intellectuals/spiritualists because of some of their pretentious lyrics. For gym music, I'd rather go with one of their influences, Meshuggah.

I fucked around for a good month and a half at the gym just working out whatever wasn't sore. I went with the common rep ranges and used machines. It was fun but quite inefficient, I should have probably only done it for a couple weeks at most. Barbell training is where it's at. Yeah, Takitum is an awesome closer. I've changed my mind on the ordering of those 4 albums, I prefer the Blaze of Perdition album slightly to Aosoth. It's catchier and more varied. I mostly love the first half of Aosoth's album, but the Blaze album is really strong the whole way through.

Why is Maynard a piece of shit?

The band definitely appeals to pseudo-intellectuals/spiritualists. The last song I was listening to on the way home was 46+2. I LOVE that song but are you kidding me with the lyrics? I actually didn't really find Tool until I was in a pseudo-intellectual/spirituality phase in sobriety. I got obsessed with Carl Jung and spiritual awakenings. I fell in with some people that loved to try and interpret each song. We were all wearing black down at the coffee shop. Actually, I wasn't wearing a lot of black then but 1 guy was. It's funny to look back on that epoch. I cringe on a lot of the lyrics now and can't get as much into it but the musicians are fantastic.

Lateralis is a great album too. 10,000 days was definitely not. I don't really listen to Tool in the gym. I don't know if I have ever. I usually have one of their cd's close by in my car and listen while I am driving.

I forget who suggested Meshuggah to me in the past. That is another I need to get back into.

RiKD    United States. Jan 16 2018 02:29. Posts 8535

Meshuggah is fire. I think it might have been Maynard that suggested them but also this one guy in AA that I did not see often. I can't remember who it was. He suggested some swedish band too that was heavily inspired by Tool.

That is just Maynard's sense of humor. Hooker with a Penis he tells his fans to fuck off and stick a finger up their ass, shut up and buy. It's like the way he markets or something. But, I don't think it's marketing per se but rather Maynard trying to be funny (and in some ways serious as well). Some people will find it funny. (I typically do). Some won't. His fans will eat that up. His non-fans won't and he doesn't care or probably the truest is that like I said at the beginning it was an attempt at humor and he doesn't care either way.

Loco   Canada. Jan 16 2018 16:36. Posts 20963

It's not a joke. It's part of his whole spiritualist crap "life feeds on life, man". He has called out vegetarians in the past at his shows. He thinks it's something an unenlightened person does.

Hmmm, he's got some weird views. I still like him but he's got some weird views and some of his lyrics almost ruin songs for me. I think one in particular is Parabola. Such a great song but Maynard starts going off on stupid spirituality stuff. I think maybe it boils down to he just did too much acid as a younger person. I could see him having that kind of meathead attitude regarding eating meat that a whole host of people have. Oh well. I still enjoy a lot of Tool's music. Not a fan of A Perfect Circle or Puscifer and really fuck it I have been listening to Meshugga and they are probably better than Tool. I don't think I have leveled up to the extreme extreme metal but it was funny the owner was playing some sappy rock this morning and I have been listening to nothing but metal for days and was like "WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SHIT?!?!?" I know what you mean. You get desensitized even to rock or metal. There has got to be some other albums that I have to listen to.

Loco   Canada. Jan 17 2018 00:16. Posts 20963

Well, I'm definitely not desensitized to non-extreme music. I enjoy so many genres including pop music. It's only when it's music that's supposed to be heavy but isn't (to me) that I get bored or annoyed. In that case I feel like an F1 pilot driving Go-Karts or something.

There's certainly a lot of great albums for you to discover. I've discovered a lot through rateyourmusic's top lists and alternatively http://www.metal-archives.com can be used to find similar bands to what you like. Every band page has a "similar artists" tab with a similarity score.

I have been waking up and training before dawn (wake up 5am) and I kind of like it. No traffic to the gym, barely anyone in there, get it done out of the gates. The guy who suggested it trains fasted so really just wakes up, brushes teeth, throws on clothes he laid out the night before and gets after it. I have decided to get some sort of protein in me before and maybe wake up a little bit. There is something to be said for just doing it and getting it done. I inherently browse message boards which I am finding is really quite a bad habit. I think it is worth it though to get some food in me before I train. I feel better during the day. My brain seems to work better.

I need to find better things to do than browse message boards though. I had nothing better to do today than lounge on message boards and followup on BTC which I can't really do anything about currently except for weep over missed value. The irony here is I am complaining about being on message boards too much while being on message boards too much... I'll figure out because there is value on this site. I don't know if many worthwhile projects have ever fallen into someone's lap. At least waking up early and going to the gym is waking up my life.

Yeah I saw the guy that inspires you. Seems to be a guy who made the rounds on the popular silly podcasts. I dunno anything about him except he's disciplined but if he's smart he's not training fully fasted after sleeping for 6-8 hours. You might just not be aware that he's popping a few BCAAs before the workout. If you think he's not and there is something to it, then go ahead and experiment with it. It's not like you need to do everything optimally because you're going to be competing.

Yeah, I actually like his (Jocko's) podcast. It's something different but he is a silly paleo guy. His ideal breakfast is eggs and bacon. He was in charge of training the Seal teams though so he is no dummy in training regards although a bit biased towards the bodyweight exercises and calisthenics. There is not going to be much more peak contraction or tension on the muscle for the respective body parts than pullups, dips, handstand pushups (or holds or wall walk ups), deadlifts, and squats. Pushups are still difficult for me to bang out a lot of them so for now are probably similar to the bench press.

8-10 hours is optimal sleep?

In many ways or at least with certain things I have the attitude that if I am going to do it I might as well get as close to optimal that makes sense. Grabbing a protein shake and a banana in the morning before I train is not a big deal. Eating a good breakfast after a shower is not a big deal. If it were optimal to get 10 hours of sleep it's not like I am missing out on a whole lot at the moment. It's not like I am some socialite. I have been liking going to bed early.

Loco   Canada. Jan 17 2018 15:43. Posts 20963

Looks like his buddy does use BCAAs on the same fasted training regimen. Don't know if that means that he uses them.

8-10 hours feels optimal to me. My Greyskull program includes bodyweight exercises 6 times a week with the frequency method. 5 sets of pushups and 5 sets of chinups throughout the day. I think it's optimal to have a good balance of both weighted vs bodyweight exercises.

That ultimately comes down to reconditioning your brain so that it feels more pleasurable/purposeful to do other things. You're stuck in instant gratification feedback loops and you crave them, so your task is to make it as boring as possible to use the computer to counter them, and as enjoyable as possible to do other things. That's how you change your habits in a smart way. So for example, I quit social media a long time ago which was the most important thing. There's a lot less to do on the computer as a result. The second most important thing is that I got a standing desk. I did so because I was spending a lot of time at the computer and it's a healthier choice, but what happens now that I have it is that I don't particularly enjoy standing for long periods, sometimes it gets very uncomfortable if I'm not moving, so it encourages me to go do something else.

It's also about training your mind to be more rational. To catch yourself deceiving yourself more often. Saying "I had nothing better to do than X" is almost never true. It's just an excuse because you crave stimulation and you feel like you don't have the willpower to find stimulation that is productive. You have to learn (slowly build up) to do things you don't feel like doing in the present but you know you will benefit from doing, and you have to learn to feel relatively good when you are on your own in an environment without stimulation. No audiobook, no music, no anything. Just you and your thoughts. If you absolutely crave stimulation then you have a very deep issue to resolve. I've known some people who couldn't even go to the bathroom without their phones. That's a really bad place to be in. Working out with a regular schedule will help a lot but it's only one supporting element.

Working through Gojira now. It was good timing. Meshugga was starting to get a little stale. Not stale just I was wanting MORE.

Man, I am wrecked. I am thinking of taking ice baths and contrast showers. Maybe a day off. That jiu jitsu last night took me into deep waters and I was drowning. All I really have tomorrow though are pushups and burpees which I should be able to handle. It sucks my gym doesn't open at 5am on the weekend I have to do the workouts at home.

I always think about food and sleep for recovery. Contrast showers.

Why creatine though?
You won't be making it to the Olympics. Never researched creatine but i'm doing fine without it. No point chasing numbers if the goal is to be healthy.

~250 servings for $20 for its minor but consistent benefits is kind of hard to say no to. It's a safe, no non-sense supplement that has benefits beyond just lifting, especially for people who eat little to no meat. Some people also like their physique more when their muscles are retaining more water.

Another argument can be made purely from a psychological perspective: it can act as a placebo and also alleviates the thoughts/anxiety that you might be leaving some gains off the table for those who are susceptible to them. Think about it, we live in a world where people are owned by marketing and they constantly feel like they need more. If you're one of those people who just can't shake the "more"/efficiency mindset and you can somehow narrow it down to only "needing" the single most well-studied supplement (which happens to be cheap as dirt), sort of giving yourself one vice to prevent others, then it's a good thing.

It's the same thing with "chasing numbers". You don't necessarily go to the gym purely for the benefits of exercise, but to crowd out other less desiring activities and feel a sense of progression in your life. While you're at the gym you're not playing games, not browsing the web, not doing drugs, etc, and if what makes you feel good in the gym and stick to it is competing against yourself by way of numbers, then that's the lesser evil of the two. Trying to improve your numbers isn't a problem as long as you're keeping your ego in check.

I'll take your word for the benefits it provides to people who eat little or no meat.
I can understand why for creatine works. The "more" /efficiency is the part where i think amateurs, hobbyists, enthusiasts overdo it... if you don't compete on a serious level then you probably don't need the efficiency.
Progression is definitely something i believe in. Also experimenting.

If there was a list i think consistency and being injury-free are on top. Eat-sleep-train ratio. Having good work ethic and being open-minded and pushing yourself go a long way. Creatine, for me, is somewhere further down the list.
Not anti-creatine here, just asking for the reasons and motivation behind using it.

It looks like my training is evolving. I like the idea of working on weak points. The fact that I train BJJ and really struggled with the live sparring means that I am weak in:

- Efficiency
- Technique
- Cardio

The number one way to improve those things is go to BJJ and put in a good sesh on the warmups, techniques, and live sparring. I can also do what I did this morning and train cardio in different ways. I tried to emulate the rounds as best as I could. Do a 500m sprint (takes me about 2:30), take a short rest or do some hip escapes, w/e and then get back on the erg for another 500m sprint, take a bit longer break, do it again, do it again. It didn't really have the same effect of the live sparring but it was good training. In the live sparring I literally had to cardio tap one time. The guy got me in side mount and was laying on me and I felt like I couldn't breathe and there was no chance of a hip escape or anything so I just tapped. I have to get used to pressure again too. I have to re-learn being comfortable in uncomfortable places or maybe they are not that comfortable but you just get used to it, desensitized to it. Strength is not what is holding me back in jiu jitsu. Training in the mornings still gets me feeling good though so we will see.

Everyone who values their time should value efficiency. But yeah, when that mindset ends up going to extremes and you're focusing more on the minutiae then it's counter-productive.

The things you listed are all essential, I think there aren't many people who would consider creatine essential. It's a supplement, but it's at the very top and uncontroversially so.

G O J I R A. That "From Mars to Sirius" album is really great. I enjoy "L'enfant sauvage" as well. Earlier ones too. I don't know if they bring the heavy quite how I like it like Meshugga. Workout up to a max set of deadlifts Meshugga just took me higher today.

I keep taking these fucking naps. It's got to be messing with my sleep in some ways. I don't fucking know. It's surely helping me recover though.

Enjoying the journey of improvement is great. Reaching really high numbers in GYM too fast gets you to a position where the working out / payoff ratio diminishes. Your numbers will increase at a slower pace and become harder to maintain. Its a trap.

I told you man. There are reasons for the crush. Morin as one of her heroes is not surprising to me.

So, I go to yoga today. It is a very calming, meditative version. Everyone is super chill. They play that very relaxing, slow music in the background. So, I am walking out to my car and "Flying Whales" is in my head so obviously I have to jam the L'enfant Sauvages (Live) album on full blast.

Speaking of crushes I now have a crush on the yoga instructor. When searching for the class I was curious and clicked on her profile and she seemed pretty cool but then in real life she was strikingly more attractive and cool. Oh wells. I think women are most beautiful after a yoga class or a run. Dating in yoga class is an advanced play though. There is a hierarchy though. If the instructors like you then you can date one of the instructors more or less. Or, it is harder to pull off. If the instructors like you then it is easier to date inside of the classes. I think there is pre-selection by women. I don't even know why I am going into this. It doesn't really matter. I am likely going to show up down there a few times a week if that. My goal is not to pick up it is to do some yoga and get free. Just training a bunch is doing it for me atm.

RiKD    United States. Feb 04 2018 00:29. Posts 8535

I am finally getting a push day in. Right now it is DB Bench, DB Incline, and dips, all for like 4 sets of 4-8 reps as I move up weight. That should get me good gains for 3 or 4 weeks or so. I am still getting gains of my pull: Pull ups, DB Row, Seated Row, again for like 2-4 sets of 4-8. Then my lift/leg day I work up to a max set of 3 reps on the deadlift and do 5 sets of 5 reps of kettlebell swings. I am considering adding some exercises like an overhead press to press day or maybe some lunges on leg day but I kind of like the smaller volume and go for a bit more intensity in those lifts. I am also doing yoga 2-3x times a week. Every instructor is like this gorgeous blonde with an athenian/aphroditian body sculpted by Rodin all the way up to the owner of the place. I think the owner may be some sort of raging narcissist and only hires other gorgeous blondes (many of which share her name). It's just an interesting observation. I am only doing BJJ like once a week at the moment. I am looking to gear that up a bit. I would be happy with 3x/week for now.

Loco, I need new metal suggestions. Meshugga and Gojira are epic but I found myself searching through old workout playlists I made in like 2010 in my last workout. Not that there is anything wrong with that I just put in some serious training sessions on fresh Meshugga and Gojira I need more.

I think the overall volume is ok. I will just have to play it by ear. I am not sure if the progression is ideal. I always was under the impression that you go for like 3-4 week cycles on exercises and then switch it up a bit but I am still seeing gains on the same exercises probably because I am new again. I will just have to keep an eye on it.

I kind of want to get all pumped up tonight but it is a bit too late. I will rest up and get after it tomorrow. I am looking to crush some kettlebell swings with the 32 kg bell. I also have a trap bar deadlift with 3 45s on each side in my sights. Nothing to it but to do it.

There's certainly a lot of great albums for you to discover. I've discovered a lot through rateyourmusic's top lists and alternatively http://www.metal-archives.com can be used to find similar bands to what you like. Every band page has a "similar artists" tab with a similarity score.

Young Strapping Lad and Mastodon kind of meh. Opeth might have potential. Frederik Thordendal's Special Defects kind of sounds like Meshugga but worse. Makes me not want to take Meshugga and Gojira for granted. That is the sweet spot for me. Lol, tool isn't even on the encyclopedia (as they are just alternative metal). I'm sick of searching. Man, so my goals are all over the place. I get into these modes where I am loving the strength training. I got a comment on my arms looking good in a tank top but I am a bit marbled, a bit doughey so does it really matter if my arms look good and then I want to go full tilt and start doing all sorts of lateral raises and bicep curls and tricep pressdowns to really get the arms pumped up but that seems so silly when I am already gassing out in BJJ pretty hard. I am attempting to do the impossible of gaining strength and size and losing fat. I might just be able to do it as I am coming back into it with the potential for those beginner gains. I don't know. We will see. The biggest weakness is the gas tank in BJJ (and trying to remember techniques...) but I am having a hard time building it up. I guess I just have to keep going and keep sparring. Ughhh, it's such a challenge. I just have to do it. I know I have to do it so I should just do it. Just like waking up at 5am to get a lift in. I just have to make these things habit and I will be doing pretty well for myself.

Converge is in a category of its own when it comes to metalcore. All of their albums are incredibly consistent. It took me a long time to really get into them but now I think it's some of the best gym music.

Fat loss is done through diet. You can do some extra cardio after a weightlifting workout or in the morning when your glycogen stores are empty and that will help it along a little bit, but diet has to be the focus.

Yeah, I can't outrun my mouth. How do I support the gainz though?

Training jiu jitsu on less calories (and paleo) I just did it. I don't know how I just did. I was under the voodoo of paleo that I could just do it with out any calories or carbs or flat out fasted. Now, I am a big baby and need all the macronutrients all the time. At least I have been keeping it to mostly good fuel.

Loco   Canada. Feb 06 2018 12:58. Posts 20963

You support the gains by eating around maintenance or slightly more. Your body will naturally recompose itself given enough time. It's pretty straight-forward stuff. You don't have to cut calories. It'll just go a lot faster if you cut out processed junk and/or add some cardio after your workouts.

Is that supposed to say "since you're not really into aesthetics"? You are correct in that I will be walking around at a higher body fat % than the aesthetic crowd. I have been 10-12% and that was nice but it's hard seeing myself getting there or lower anytime soon.

I am about an hour into the vid. Pretty good discussion. I am very much intrigued by his training protocol. I am a little turned off by the neck and trap obsession though. I don't have the desire to be big and massive. I have trained neck in the past for BJJ and would add it into a repertoire. I think one of the reasons I don't really train traps is I was a part of a conversation in high school with some "hot girls" that were talking about how guys love to train traps but they think it's stupid. I have trained traps. It is actually something I am genetically gifted in. If I started doing rack pulls, db shrugs, trap bar shrugs, farmer's walks, etc. they blow up but I am not really going for that. I'll definitely check out his site/youtube/whatever to see what he does for his training and GPP though. It is definitely superior to what I am currently doing. 2x strength training per week w/ some GPP like 2-4x a week would fit in nicely I think. I am still trying to figure it all out.

Loco   Canada. Feb 09 2018 09:49. Posts 20963

It's supposed to say what it says. You've talked a lot about your looks, clothes, beard oil, etc. You've just said " I got a comment on my arms looking good in a tank top but I am a bit marbled" so clearly it matters to you.

His program is obviously not for you right now since he's an advanced lifter but I thought you might enjoy some of his points and the motivation. I also thought since you're fascinated with Jokko and he looks massive that maybe you were gearing yourself towards that. You've also mentioned wanting to do a lot of accessory arm work which isn't what you should prioritize if you're focusing on strength training.

If I were to have a goal it would be this except I don't think it is a realistic goal to get that big AND shredded AND that good at BJJ. (Gordan Ryan, probably the best no gi submission only player in the world):

Above would be more of an ideal than the goal. The lacked.

Did a back workout to Immolation today. It was pretty cool. Did some new exercises. AlphaDestiny is right. I think even beginners need to rotate exercises. It avoids central nervous issues and burnout.

Actually looking at that picture I don't need to be that shredded or that vascular. I don't need striations that is for sure. I would be happy with the before pic and some semblance of skill and confidence on the mats. The ability to roll with confidence and relaxation and not feeling like I am going to die due to poor cardio.

Alexander Leonidas is an interesting character. I like his training stuff. My goal isn't just to be huge and massive though. I do prefer some aesthetics and functionality. He has some cringey stuff on the about me page. I think even just the name "OutAlpha" and "AlphaDestiny" is a bit cringeworthy. One of the articles was a bitter rant about eating out for breakfast and how cheap and efficient he is. I was thinking bro, going out for breakfast is fun. We don't care if they charge $10 for french toast. Another one was how direct and bold he is in dating but the story was about how he basically confidently told these women off and then alluded that the hot one was into him. I was guessing he was like 25 and chalk it up to that. 700 lb. trap bar deadlift is hard to argue with though. I keep debating whether or not I am going to go on his novice program.

I pulled 295 trap bar deadlift today which felt pretty good. Not too much struggle but it was heavy for me. I thought if I went for 2 I might black out. I went up to the 36kg kettlebell for swings which was too heavy for me so I dropped back down to the 32kg and did more reps. I love both these exercises so much which I think is why I just stick with them. I continue to get the gainz so why not? Post workout meal is a protein shake with creatine and pumpkin oatmeal with blueberries. I'll probably end up at Chipotle for my next meal and then my nightly meal has been a protein shake with berries and almonds. I hope we actually get to some techniques tonight at BJJ. I think it is nice for overall training to get a good warmup in and actually train some fundamentals instead of just straight rolling all the time.

One thing I think is nice is I trained push yesterday pretty hard. That gets everything in an anabolic state and protein synthesis good. So, then this morning I train deadlift + kettlebell swings and that gets me in an anabolic state and protein synthesis to make gainz on everything. If I take some days off here and there and don't overtrain BJJ it seems to be a good system for now. I probably grow on just about anything now. I am sure there are better progressions out there than what I am doing but this seems to be working so far for what my goals are.

I never read his website. Yeah, the alpha stuff is stupid, but at least he's not one of the people who uses it to advance a vile agenda (like the alt-right). I agree with him on most things though, including living cheap. That doesn't mean you can't treat yourself once in a while, but doing that regularly is terribly wasteful and won't help you meet your goals. Plus, you have to work for it. I'd much rather work less and spend less than work more to spend more.

Man, I gotta say it is a relief to get through that BJJ training tonight. I am training with all these big guys and it is tiresome. BJJ really is mentally and physically challenging. I mean really challenging. I am looking forward to get back to the iron tomorrow. The iron has it's own mental and physical challenges but it doesn't fight back, there are rests. If some 240 lb guy is smashing me in side control there is no rest. I am trying to escape or just relax and that doesn't even include these scrambles that get your heart rate up. Sometimes I just lose positions because I just don't have it in me. It makes me feel weak. I just have to keep doing it. I hope to unleash some of this frustration on the weights tomorrow. I can relax a little bit and get the peak contraction and the tension on the muscle. Get into that state everybody loves. Get that pump going. Get out of there feeling good. Get some protein in me and some food and on point to crush the day.

Was pretty meh today. DB bench just didn't feel right. I think I was still pretty beat up by BJJ. Salvaged it with a decent push in DB incline and got in the dips pretty good. I always seem to hit plateaus in push more so than pull and legs. It could just be a case of not enough rest which is likely. BJJ is taxing. I have been eating enough food. I think I will switch up the exercises next time and see what happens.

RiKD    United States. Feb 18 2018 18:35. Posts 8535

Just had a bit of a disappointing leg/lift day. Deadlift was meh. I turned it around and got some good kettlebell swings in though. Good volume and intensity levels. Good work. I think I am just getting beat up by work and jiu jitsu. They fired the other prep guy so I have been putting in long hours and I don't think I have been eating or sleeping enough. Maybe I am trying to do too much.

I came across some JOI porn (Jerk Off Instruction) last night and I don't know what it is about it but I love the stuff at times. I think I am still watching quite a bit of porn these days but not as many hand jobs. I am in the habit of watching it before I train as studies have shown it increases testosterone and sometimes it is like might as well. This one time I was pretty manic and spending this time with this one woman and really horny. She handed me some lube and said "go ahead, enjoy yourself" and watched. I was so wishing she was going to free 'em up (she has perfect large breasts) or play with herself but then she just left. It was a bummer.

Where are you getting this information from? As far as I know this is not true. Higher serum testosterone levels are seen during abstinence. Dr. Greger also says in this video that having sex increases testosterone and it can be measured with facial hair growth, while masturbation does not.

Information

I said watching porn not masturbating.

So, it appears sex is best followed by abstinence followed by masturbation?

To be fair in the study from above I think they went to a swingers club so were exposed to live sex and not pornhub. I just like to rationalize my pornography perusal.

Well, it says there's other studies where looking at porn increases T but it's likely for a very short period of time. Only one study showed that it was up to an hour +. Even that is quite short. I think if you take that stuff seriously then you're just going to watch a lot of porn which becomes a problem and the effects might not carry on due to some kind of adaptation. I'd imagine someone who cares that much about it would rather start injecting low doses of the stuff. One more thing we don't know is whether or not T levels fall back to some stable baseline after the effect wanes or if it goes lower than if nothing had been watched. Since T levels seem to be associated with "feeling like a winner" it seems likely that there could be an adaptation where one doesn't feel like much of a winner watching porn on the regular and never beating off. I think we can't put much stock into these short term studies.

I don't really want to be an injector of anything. I don't think I ever really feel like a winner while watching porn. I feel like a winner after that back workout I just had though. Whooo wheee!

Yes. This must be while I still come to this site. Attractive metal chick with her breasts all out shredding to some Death.

I would have been just as happy if she had a oversized Death t-shirt on too. She didn't have to display the half sleeve and the breasts but she wanted the vieeewwzzz.

I have been reading Johaan Hari's "Lost Connections." It's pretty decent. I think it is an evolution for me. Drinking, doing drugs it all kind of spurns from depression and anxiety which are linked which is linked to being overweight. It's all linked. If I treat the depression and the anxiety I am likely not going to want to drink or do drugs or eat shit compulsively. So it has been another evolution. Even if some of it or even most of it is kind of common sense it's nice to see it written and it's nice to see some studies and also some anecdotal examples to go with it. A deity is not keeping me sober so I have to stay current with the science aspect of it. My problem may be that I have an allergy (I can't control my drinking), a mental obsession (I can't stop obsessing when I am drinking and not drinking when I am drinking), and a spiritual malady but to me a spiritual malady is just depression and anxiety. I can maybe solve the spiritual malady with God or other delusional outlets or I can meditate or I can read an up to date books on solutions to depression and anxiety. The spiritual malady, the Void: These are kind of systemic of culture. I think there are ways to tinker and move things a little bit to help with these feelings. Hari talks about junk values and meaningful values. I mean we've been through this before. Work more, spend more doesn't end up well for most people. The chase for the Mercedez and the Rolex is not a sound plan for most. And it doesn't even really matter in a way because I know it is not a sound plan for me.

1.) Disconnection from meaningful work
2.) Disconnection form other people
3.) Disconnection from meaningful values
4.) Disconnection from childhood trauma
5.) Disconnection from status and respect (CLEAN YOUR ROOM AND CLIMB "COMPETENCE" HIEARCHIEZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!!) (Not exactly)
6.) Disconnection from the natural world
7.) Disconnection from a hopeful or secure future
8 & 9.) Genes and brain changes (ZOMG PSYCH DRUGS?!?!?!? ORLY?!?!?!?!) ...

Seems more reasonable than lack of God or badly in need of drugs.

I could use more meaningful work. I am getting better with the connections to other people. I mostly have my head on straight with meaningful values. I have worked quite a bit on childhood trauma. I am still finding my right size in the world but I don't feel like I am at the bottom and I am not in constant battle with the "alpha" so I think I am pretty good on that. I don't feel that I am really submissive to anyone except I do probably laugh at my boss's jokes more readily than usual. That kind of goes back to #1 I don't feel that I am that controlled at work. As long as I make enough food for the people to eat I can do whatever I want for the most part. I get beat up a lot in BJJ but it is for play. Like rats wrestling for fun. I do wish to move to the mountains whether that is Asheville, NC, Colorado, Brazil, Chile, wherever, Asheville, NC is where I have my sights. If I could get a meaningful job in Asheville I would be looking pretty good. Mountains, lakes, rivers all around and all abound. I feel like if you have the first 6, 7 is kind of a no brainer. I see a good psychiatrist and therapist regularly so 8 and 9 are taken care of.

I don't know why I just wrote all of that out. I think I just needed to. I don't necessarily think I need to move to Asheville and chase this idea of a meaningful job. I just think I could be doing something a bit more meaningful to me. Some intrinsic value versus just extrinsic value. I think it is such a hard thing to find something that supports you that happens to be an end-in-itself. It kind of ceases to be an end-in-itself once it starts supporting you. So, I think we just have to find something that we are not too controlled and doesn't get us caught up in the junk values of materialism and doesn't have us at the lowest rung on the totem pole and doesn't have us battling alphas all day and losing. I don't know I feel as long as you are battling alphas with Kant and Nietzsche and whoever else by your side even if you lose you will end up in the right place but that's a stressful world. Corruption is real. Many times it takes 5 years at the least until some of that stuff gets weeded out and only if the "alpha" loses grace anyways. Norway might have a lot of things right. I don't really know though. Writing this I am really happy to be out of Shitown, Indiana driving in to fucking corrupt as shit steel mills every day hoping for the "finer" things and the penthouse in Lincoln Park. No real friends, holding my childhood traumas, playing and losing to the big boys. Trying to find some semblance of anything in the drink. That's the best anti-depressant/anti-anxiety I ever found up until that point that it stopped working.......... don't ever go there. ughhhhhh . Don't ever go there. Don't ever get there.

Well, in some of her vids she isn't showing much or any cleavage, so I don't think her main purpose is to get as many views as possible using her body. I wouldn't be too surprised if this is her normal style IRL.
