- The event was expected to be headlined by a UFC Middleweight Championship rematch between current champion Luke Rockhold and former champion Chris Weidman. They previously met at UFC 194, when Rockhold won Weidman's title via fourth round TKO. However, Weidman pulled out on May 17 due to a large extrusion herniation on his neck. The first replacement choice was former Strikeforce Middleweight Champion Ronaldo Souza, who lost his title to Rockhold in 2011, but he injured his meniscus in a win at UFC 198 against former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Vitor Belfort. Therefore, he was replaced by The Ultimate Fighter 3 winner Michael Bisping. The fight will also be a rematch as the two met previously in November of 2014 at UFC Fight Night: Rockhold vs. Bisping, with Rockhold winning via submission in the second round.
- The co-main event is expected to feature a UFC Bantamweight Championship trilogy bout between current two-time champion Dominick Cruz and former WEC Featherweight Champion Urijah Faber. The pairing first met at featherweight on WEC 26 in 2007, when Faber defeated Cruz via guillotine choke to defend his title. The rematch took place on UFC 132 in 2011, when Cruz defended his title for the first time via unanimous decision.
- A lightweight bout between Evan Dunham and The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 2 winner Leonardo Santos, originally scheduled for UFC 198, was moved to this event after a minor injury to Dunham delayed the match-up a few weeks. Subsequently, Santos pulled out on April 29 due to an undisclosed injury and was replaced by James Vick. In turn, Dunham pulled out of that pairing on May 5 for undisclosed reasons and was replaced by Beneil Dariush.
- In January 2016, former UFC Lightweight and Welterweight Champion B.J. Penn announced his intentions to return to active competition in the featherweight division after an 18-month "retirement" and was expected to compete at UFC 197. However, Penn's return was delayed after an investigation into criminal allegations made against him was launched. After the UFC concluded that no criminal or civil charges would be filed, the organization announced that he would face Dennis Siver at this event. In turn, Siver pulled out on May 10 due to an undisclosed injury. He was replaced by Cole Miller. Subsequently, Penn himself was removed from the card on May 23 after he was flagged for a potential anti-doping violation: the use of an IV in excess of 50 ml in a six-hour period during a March 25, out-of-competition sample collection. He was replaced by Alex Caceres.
- A lightweight bout between John Makdessi and Mehdi Baghdad was originally scheduled for this event, but on April 28 it was announced that the bout was moved to UFC Fight Night: dos Anjos vs. Alvarez on July 7, possibly to bolster the card.

Agree with all your picks except Vick vs Dariush, I think Dariush will probably take it down by decision, his fight with Chiesa should have taught him some lessons about pace.
I live in LA and will maybe go to this if I can get some really cheap tix the day b4 the fights.
Agree with Holloway being a goldmine, Lamas shouldn't have shit for him. Unfortunately I expect Holloway to open at around -450 and only get more expensive. Everyone gonna be parlaying on this card due to all the heavy favs

Rockhold finished Bisping u1.5 in their first fight, and Bisping had a full camp. (^ watch the fight video above ^)
Rockhold/Bisping u1.5 is currently -115
Michael Bisping in a FOX Sports interview: "I'm not going out there to fight five rounds. If I try that, I lose. I'm not going to have the conditioning. Believe you me, I've stopped guys in the first round plenty of times before, albeit earlier in my career. I'm going to go back to that animalistic fighting style, which I have inside me. I'm going to go out on my sword and I tell you what, I'm going to give it everything I've got. Luke Rockhold better be ready."

I dont really think Weidman has many outs vs Rockhold, that title seems pretty locked for the near future until someone improves hard. Although if someone does improve it will most likely be Weidman
They are just giving Faber his last title attempt, don't know why as a rematch with Dillashaw makes much sense or even a few other match ups
edit: Tbh it even seemed like they were setting up a match between Faber and Dillashaw with/ever since the TUF season with McGregor - Faber, whole "argument" between Faber & DIllashaw seems so scripted

I'm a Weidman fan so I might be biased, but the dude fractured his foot in two places 5 weeks out from the fight. So his entire training camp was fucked, and it was still fractured when he fought. He had surgery after, so it's not like some BS bruised rib shit. Even despite that, the fight was close until that stupid kick. He won the 1st round pretty clearly and was winning the 3rd up until the kick out striking Luke 22-12 and having a takedown. Luke looked like a deer caught in the headlights up until that kick, eating like 5 body kicks in a row unanswered.
Don't see how people can think Weidman doesn't have many outs considering all that. I think he wins the rematch if he can manage to go into the fight healthy, but that's a huge if. Weidmans definitely on the path of Shogun/Cain/Pettis of constant injuries that severely hurt their career.
A rematch with dillashaw makes sense because it was a razor close fight that could of gone either way. It was probably the closest title fight I can remember ever. And Faber hasn't beat a single top 10 guy since being blasted by Barao, and was on his way to losing to Riveria until he pulled one of the most blatant eye pokes in history. Then he lost to Frankie. Then he struggles with and barely beats Saenz, now he's getting a title shot? lol.

Rockhold by decision up to +640, opened at +330.
This seems kinda nuts.
If Bisping fights conservatively in the first couple rounds, he has a great gas tank and this could absolutely go the distance.
If I was Bisping I'd want to take it into deep water anyway and rely on Rockhold feeling the pressure of being the overwhelming favorite / wanting a spectacular finish / hope he makes a mistake.
Bisping is a smart fighter and I doubt he comes out "guns blazing".
Would anyone really be +640 shocked if Rockhold took a decision? I'd be far more surprised at Faber winning, and that's down to +425 (aka lighting money on fire)
Along that same line of thought I think the o 1.5 at +money is pretty great.

You're focusing too much on +640, instead of what's most likely to happen.

I like Andrade to grind out a probably boring win vs Penne. Should be able to dictate clinches into some TD's just wearing Penne down using a noticeable strength advantage coming down in weight vs a not big 115'er. And Penne doesn't hit hard enough to expose Andrade's kinda weak chin
Also the over on the Llamas/Holloway fight. Thinking Ricardo is going to fight in a way where it'll be difficult for Holloway to finish him

Nah I didn't see that, touché.
I know comparing odds isn't an accurate way to gauge whether one has inherent value, just an example.
All that said fighters do what they do, not what they say. I still think the over has value.

I think he clearly said himself he isn't finishing the fight. Perhaps at +1500 ++ I would consider it, but his son and him both strategeze/prepare for either a lucky victory or gas out and get KOed. Well, actually it's only one of them is preparing for a lucky victory. I don't think they're liars here. Are you calling the Bispings liars?

That line to me seems like the one with most value

Yeah, he clearly said himself his strategy is to go try to knock Rockhold out, and not fight a paced fight. He fully understands if it doesnt work the fight is ending. Like if he doesn't get lucky he will just have to all in over and over and die.

The O/U1.5 is a better question. I wouldn't mind the O1.5, but I don't like either.
The only question is Luke isn't the most dangerous counterstriker, as far as I've seen. He usually wears on people a litlte bit then crushes them when they come down a little. So I would propose 01.5, but don't like that either, under like +150.

o1.5 = needs to go past 7 minutes and 30 seconds, which is 2:30 of Round 2.
o2.5 = needs to go past 12 minutes and 30 seconds, which is 2:30 of Round 3.

okay thanks, im considering betting o1.5 at +110 seems reasonable, ignoring the fact that Bisping said he wont go for the distance which is logical, but then again it would be Rockhold that sets the pace, the only variable is if he ll catch him fast enough

Yeah I didn't actually believe or want to believe what Rockhold said about his knee when he did say it. Just a really odd time and manner in which to bring it up...as they were in scheduled face off interviews in order to market the fight. It's almost like Luke wanted to put an exaggeration out there so he can help sell the notion that this is a competitive fight...not that he's facing a 10:1 longshot. Kinda the same thing with his arrogant/dick'ish public persona. I mean yeah he kind of is one. But he comes off more so than he actually is and in sometimes weird, awkward ways because he's just not a natural or charismatic talker at all. He clearly has a lot of actual respect for Bisping. He basically humiliated Bisping with a one arm submission and instead of celebrating, instantly tried to help Bisping back up...barely fired up at all
Similar kinda thing...though I can believe it more that Bisping is just going to come in 'guns blazing nothing to lose etc etc.,' still feel there's an outside chance that it's just a little bit of bluster and maybe an attempt at a bit of misdirection. Yeah you'd think he'd do that because obviously he didn't have a full camp....but I mean...in 10+ years of professional fighting, when has Bisping ever just charged forward in order to throw haymakers on the inside. I just don't see how it suits him and his fighting style that hasn't changed ever even on a 2 week notice fight. Too long of a range and he's going to get kicked in the head by the longer Rockhold. Too close...I mean...Rockhold physically handled Weidman's inside pressure...don't see any doubt of Rockhold just grabbing ahold of Bisping and doing whatever he wants basically. Hopefully Bisping finds that good middle range for his boxing
Someone who really does need to just go all in on charging forward flurries is Faber. Bisping can actually box. Faber, not so much. And if he gets caught in an elongated outside technical striking fight against Dom like he did vs Edgar, he'll just lose another clear decision where he just feints and throws overhand rights from way too far...and further alienate the fan base that never wants to see him in a rankings relevant fight ever again. Hopefully he realizes he has about a 0.02% chance of outpointing Dom unless he makes the fight ugly the entire 25 minutes
Going to miss this event except possibly the main event. But will have bets on Holloway/Llamas over, Andrade, and Porier. Possibly light a little money on fire by putting a very small bias'd bet on Bisping just because I'm rooting for that feel good story and it'd cool to watch that mini miracle happen out at a bar

The UFC used a new weigh-in method for this card. Almost everyone weighed-in sometime after 10am local time, and they only had to step on the scale at 4pm local time to give the fans something to watch. Guida might have been the only guy who weighed in "for real" at 4pm.
Anyway, since everyone already re-hydrated before they got back on the scale at 4pm local time, we can't gain any new information from them. This weigh-in was basically a big waste of time from a betting point of view.

Their first fight was so long ago it's not relevant IMO.
In the second fight Faber had zero success for 25 straight minutes.
Since then, he's gotten worse relative to the game. He's the same fighter while everyone else has evolved and gotten better, including Cruz.
Faber is one of the most overrated fighters in the UFC at this point. Frankie Saenz almost beat him.

Muhammad Ali died a couple of hours ago. He was Kevin Casey's father-in-law. Casey is married to his daughter, Hana Ali.
How will the effect Casey's performance? He either goes hard in Round 1 like he always does, then gasses. Or, he fights more patient and eventually loses a decision because he isn't a volume striker and will slow down anyway. Basically, I don't think this will change the fight at all. Casey's window to win the fight is still in R1.

lol he also got caught for being full of shit. In the presser he was saying he had a torn MCL and just barely started kicking and hasn't done any wrestling for the camp. Yet there are several videos he posted to instagram showing him training kicks.
And then CSAC outted his bullshit and said that he didn't even have a torn MCL, he just sprained it 3 months ago.
Why the fuck would you lie about that BEFORE a fight lol. Trying to preemptively make himself look better?

They most likely both make $10k/$10k. If they're lucky, they'll get one of the bonuses, which means an extra $50k for each of them. However, the brain damage both of them will have from that fight is priceless.

Sigh...
I mean, I gave Mutapcic the win, but he cost himself the fight when he was kneeing Casey in R2 and got taken down. He out-landed Casey 4 to 1 in R2, but that 1 judge was an idiot. I'd accept a loss, but Draws are retarded.

I lose the 1st fight, mostly due to my guy not having good fight IQ.
The 2nd fight ends in a draw.
I lose the 3rd after my guy drops his opponent and then has no idea how to fight from top position and gets swept and loses...
What a bunch of bullshit thus far.

I know it wasn't a great fight but I'm pretty impressed with Strickland, super technical and great chin, great gas tank... he just needs to learn how to get more violent and be more confident.

Good decision.
I don't remember who won Round 1, but I gave R2 to Strickland, and R3 to Strickland after he hit Breese with a good shot and ended the round with some GnP to show that he actually wanted the win. Close fight though.

Strickland's jab looked a little better, and he avoided a ton of shots from Breese once he found his range. Breese kept throwing a lot of the same combos, so that made it easy.
I capped this fight thinking Strickland would get the clinch and get a take down, but I guess he didn't feel safe in Breese's guard.

One of the smallest elite heavyweights vs. one of the largest "elite" heavyweights. One has the striking and submission advantage from the top, while the other guy has the strength and wrestling advantage.

Max Holloway, Tony Ferguson both bring it every time in spectacular fashion. They're starting to remind me of each other, and along with some other fighters make up the new school elite.
Luke Rockhold, Max Holloway, Tony Ferguson, Garbrandt, Stipe Miocic, Connor McGregor are all excellent.
And Lamas is even more sneaky and underrated, deep into that style like a deep lake than it initially seemed, hes going to keep upsetting very very good fighters because his trickery/leveling game is probably the best in MMA.

Faber has looked worse over the years, which is no secret. I just hoped he would've tried a little harder like he made everyone think. He still does the thing where he will go into super defensive mode once he knows he can't hurt his opponent within the first 2 rounds. He rather survive and lose a decision instead of going out on his shield.

I'm rooting for Bisping, too, but he has no outs unless he can somehow swarm Rockhold early and rock him and get a TKO.
Since Bisping is an outside fighter who lacks power & speed in his punches & kicks, he'll never be able to land many clean shots on the taller + longer fighter who is pretty good at slipping punches. When they are up close, Bisping can't let himself clinch with Rockhold, or else he'll get muscled to the ground via a trip or a drag; Rockhold doesn't use single nor double leg take downs from what I've seen.
Since Bisping is an outside fighter who lacks speed and power, Rockhold can use his various kicks to keep the distance and keep the pace of the fight at the speed he wants it. If Bisping comes in to counter a kick, he'll get clinched and then taken down.
Just a terrible match-up for Bisping.

There are two shots for which you don't need much power to KO the guy. Behind the ear, and downwards on the chin. Bisping landed one of them. Luke never had his hands up and preferred to turn his back while running. He has some bad habits he needs to lose.

what the fuck was Rockhold doing, darting in with a single jab and then retreating straight blindly and clearly disoriented (he had no clue where Bisping was), its as if he saw Cruz and thought "hey I gotta try that shit" and failed miserably

The true answer thats deeper is that, in life people generally get EV based on their value, and there isn't much value to sportsbetting for society. At best, if you're really good your role becomes helping the bookies adjust their lines.
I've just spent too much time on it, arrogantly, thinking it should be easy, and have too many other things on my plate.
I will have to look for a more mellow less high-risk/high-reward more value to society form of investing. Stocks and Real-Estate investing both theoretically fit that description better than sportsbetting.
It's a lot about I sijmply have too many other things to do, I feel like if you want to sportsbet, you have to pretty much commit your life to it. I also constantly feel behind on information to bookies and the market, as I have no insider information. Get drained by wig, and also get drained by match fixing. It was fun.
Best of luck to you guys.

All I do is go to university and watch MMA. Even I have a lot of trouble with picking winners in MMA, and I've literally seen every UFC fight since December 2009 (not counting The Ultimate Fighter).
Also, you need to be knowledgeable about MMA before you start betting it, otherwise you'll be a long term loser. People often go on good runs and win money in the beginning, but the longer they play, the more they'll lose because they don't know the ins and outs of the sport. Lastly, bankroll management is key, but most people aren't able to control their emotions and adjust their bet size when they are losing (I'm guilty of this).
If you feel like you know enough about MMA and have lost a lot of money betting on it, I'd suggest taking a break for a few UFC events and just pick fights without betting any money on them. Also, you can switch to fantasy betting like I did. Fantasy betting can be stressful, but you're not losing much money if you only make 3-4 teams in the $3 events with guaranteed prize pools that range from $25k to $75k.
These UFC threads will be here as long as LP is up and running, so feel free to come back whenever you feel like it, if at all.

watching all the fights would be 1st step, but to be a real good bettor you would require deep understanding of fighting like Jack Slack for example, now thats a guy that with some training in odds etc he would do very well

I couldn't watch the fights but I saw on Twitter the UFC escorted Ariel Helwani (along with other media) out before the Bisbing fight and apparently he was given a lifetime media ban.
Anyone know wtf happened?

He wrote an article on mmafighting.com breaking the new about Brock Lesnar being on the UFC 200 card, apparently before that information was supposed to be shared with anyone. If you are getting banned for life when reporting insider sports news, then I'm pretty sure the entire media of every major network should be banned as well.

Damn!
I'm currently watching the post-fight press conference and John Morgan asked what the problem was, but the guy in charge said he couldn't speak about it.
I know Ariel was fired from Fox Sports 1 earlier this year, which is why you don't see him do interviews for them anymore, but Ariel said they never said why they fired him. He assumes they don't like his weekly show(s) about what's going on in the MMA scene, where he'll address any problem that's going on, even if it puts the UFC in a negative light.

Ridiculous move by the UFC. The guy was just doing his job...and a good one at that. I've always liked Ariel a lot.

Damn just saw the event.
At first I thought Bisping just used his 1 outer, but Rockhold just did badly there exposing himself like that. Glad I didn't bet @ Rockhold

I guess Bisping KO'd him when they sparred too because he said right to his face that he's KO'd him "twice now" and he always does seem to bring up that sparring session

Just seems weird he could eat a lot of clean shots from weidman and hang, but I guess none really caught him as open as the series from bisping.

Rockhold ego got the better of him that night. The guy suddenly decided that He is the new coming in boxing and played right into Bisping's game. In every exchange prior to getting KO'd he looked sloppy and his chin was hanging straight up in the air. He is a cocky idiot and paid the price that night. No way more embarrassing to lose the belt, but being KO'd stiff by Michael Bisping. He also cost me a fortune. Laying the juice on such a shitty odds is never a bright idea, especially at a sport with so many variables.
Other than that the event was great. Dan Henderson laying out Lombard was fucking amazing. Hope he retires now on a high note. Doubt it, though.

Love him or hate him, Bisping will go down in history as the first ever UFC champion from the United Kingdom. Also, considering everything he has done for the UFC over the past 10 years, as well as the type of fighter he is, becoming champion couldn't have happened to a more deserving guy.
It'd be cool if he gets knighted for bringing the belt back to the UK.

I think people are blaming this on overconfidence and shit but it was a technical mistake.
Rockhold needlesly over-extends a jab (he was close enough to just flick it without the need for that big step) when Bisping has a a dominant footing over him and he had no exit strategy nor a follow up, he just back pedaled in a straight line without even tucking his chin under his right shoulder or changing levels.
Anderson Silva usually gets in these spots where he is completely bladed almost giving the back and all he does is simply drop very low tucking his chin keeping his ground threatening the right hook, pretty often seen in boxers like Roy Jones, or as others like to do when they throw these kind of lancing jabs past the mark and follow up with a spinning elbow but Rockhold simply had no idea what to do there and got hit by that pretty nice "paw" that Bisping threw.

No wonder Henderson doesn't want to stop fighting, if he's making that kind of money.
Feels a bit low for both Bisping and Rockhold tho?

I mean obviously, pretty much anytime someone get's knocked out they made a technical mistake that led to it, but it was a mistake brought on by over confidence. Luke doesn't fight like that, he fights at a distance and throws kicks and looks to counter guys trying to close the distance, he's basically never charges forward like that. Just look at their first fight.
He basically had zero respect for Bisping, was massively over confident, and fought stupidly. Champs have been doing that lately, first Aldo, then Werdum, and now Rockhold.
I do agree Rockholds head movement and defense is pretty bad, but he doesn't get hit that much because he usually plays the distance game and kicks from the outside and jumps back and counters when attacked.

I'm guessing you choose between no win bonus and % of PPV, % of PPV is much more rewarding if you re a top fighter considering you ll be put on good cards and get tons more. No idea how the system works on FN events though

Well yes but this wasnt Anderson Silva squaring up and leaning like neo vs Weidman type of mistake, this was simply Rockhold not fighting cautiously exposing his technical shortcomings, also champs cant always play super safe especially against weaker opponents, Aldo had been criticized harshly for cruising to decision instead of finishing fights (and rightfully so), so it was just Rockhold underestimating Bispings striking, but he overestimating his own.

Luke has never been to a decision in the UFC and has finished 13 of his 15 wins. I don't think that was a concern. And even if it was it's no reason to fight completely out of your comfort zone by leaping at Bisping with sloppy boxing.
Honestly Rockhold just thought like the rest of us. Bisping isn't that good and had almost no chance and doesn't even hit hard so he wasn't in much danger. That's the first time Bisping has legit KO'd someone in the UFC iirc.

Bisping winning over Silva gave him confidence to fight a little better than usual. If you watch the fight Bisping was connecting more and parrying more shots. Rockhard tried something new and got caught, I'd like to see a rematch between the two soon

From what I remember Bisping was winging a bunch of huge looping sloppy shots to the point they were consistently throwing him off balance.
