A little surprised at some of the answers here.

Treading a bit more on the personal side than I'd like to, but a large portion of my personal friends married relatively young (<25 years), and 3 out of 8 couples are divorced.

Furthermore, 2 of those 3 divorces involved the women in the marriage seeking massive (in my opinion) alimony and child custody privileges which were granted.

One of these dudes has to pay just under $1000 a month for the next 18+ years despite spending ample time with his kid and being from all exterior viewpoints a great Father.

I think picking a video game nerd for this article is in bad taste, and I think Breitbart in general is a bad source, however...

There is a massive issue of single mother homes in the entire North American continent, and I'm of the opinion that Canada, US, and to a lesser extent Mexican governments all play a significant role in this situation.

I suspect this will only get worse until serious legislative overhaul is conducted so that family courts don't default to promoting single mother households. I know that is a touchy statement but there is more than a sufficient sample size to display that a lack of positive male role models leads to anti-social behavior.

tl;dr

the article is pretty whack, but men choosing not to commit or marry has a significant impact on social welfare and I think family courts and modern culture are largely to blame.

The bottom line is, unless you are near 100% certain your marriage will last men are taking significantly more risk in seeking a legal marriage than women. People in general are risk averse and as such the results aren't surprising. The trends in Japan and similar countries in particular are quite alarming.

it's not really explicitly stated in the article, but i suspect it's not just people who CAN'T get married choosing not to marry. there seems to be a raise in people choosing to forgo marriage altogether even when in long term relationships.
