You should try to see immigrant doctors in Sweden (any nordic country tbh) if you're using the public healthcare system. Hungary apparently has a very high-quality system of training doctors. They're also really underpaid (again, this is strictly the public health-care system) so they're the #1 target of brain-drain. It's pretty easy to see that our free public healthcare blows ass because only the biggest asshats / retards stay here (barring a few exceptions).

Edit: Forgot to say that best wishes to your gf, hope her back heals. An ongoing problem that started more than a year ago can be bad, but hopefully it's nothing serious.

GF is actually speaking rather Hungarian fluently. Should try to use that .

Thanks.

Korean healthcare has been, in my somewhat limited experience, fucking amazing.

It's not even expensive, despite me not having Korean insurance... I havent had anything really wrong with me tho, but had my shoulder x-rayed after hurting it somewhat badly in jiu jitsu, been to the dentist, been to emergency room twice (busted eardrum and once cuz I had a blind spot in my eye after MMA practice that turned out to be nothing - they put me through the works tho, had like every eye test ever done to me at 2 am).

Anyway, Korean healthcare is awesome.

My family has less than ideal run-ins with swedish healthcare as well - but I've been mostly spared (mostly because I've never had anything wrong with me while living in Sweden, that I had to question their opinion on). Hope this private clinic employs some more reasonable people!

Oh yeah, dentists. I was back in Sweden for 2 weeks last year and I was told I wouldn't be able to get an appointment with my dentist in that time. In Korea I walked into one one of the 10 different dentists scattered within a 5 min walk, asked for a check-up and was out 30 minutes later.

Hybrid system is the worst system. It creates a two tier system where most politician and powerful people pass rules to defund the public system while themselves using the private paid system. It is true about schools, education, healthcare, food regulation etc. you name it.

I think private schools or healthcare clinics should be banned. You want to pay for a better service at ur local clinic? Then donate to the clinic if u can afford it.

I would not put a doctor and a chiropractor at the same level. There is such a big difference. Now it is not a news that a lot of pains are not directly linked to a specific illness which classical medicine doesn't address.
There is something quite different between public health care and private : the doctor you meet at the hospital won't win more money by conducting more examinations on your girlfriend, which is the case of your chiropractor. Even if there is a lack of empathy, at least you are not seen as a client. And you don't have to agree with a doctor to make him right. (I'm not saying it's the case).

And i'm pretty sure, that the people blaming on public health care for its lack of empathy are the same that criticize it for its lack of "efficiency" and wastes. You even explain quite well how private medicine would be only affordable for rich people.

Even if it sounds stupid, at an hospital, they would take more seriously someone who will explain she has already came and still suffers. By getting back, explaining that she still has her problem, that she already came, she may be better taken care of.

I really do empathize with you or your girlfriend but your reaction blaming on medicine or even the health care system is far from a rational judgement. And I guess it is due to the fact that you can see her suffering, and by reading your blogs it comforts you in your previous liberal ideas.

I hope she gets better.

Obviously our health system has it's drawbacks. But from personal experience and people close to me it's been really good most of the time. Girlfriend fell and broke arm in the middle of the night. Ambulance drove 100km to pick her up. Got x-ray, bandages. Next day we went back to our hometown and we got set up with a specialist. Surgery two days later.

A friend got cancer in one of his testicle. Took like 3 days before they operated. Next week chemo. And now he is doing regulary revisits and will do that for the next 10 (!) years.

Cost of this? Around 100 $ for each of them.

Not everyone has 1 million when they are 21. This is not black and white.

But, you still obviously have the right to complain here when not getting proper treatment.

Not going to trade stories in details but so far our health care system has killed of one of my uncles (doctor "lost some paperwork" and he ended up getting his treatment delayed about 2 months) and one aunt (couldn't figure out what it was except it was obviously not cancer... oh wait.... despite it being the kind of cancer that apparently always happen to people working with hair products, which she did all her life). I think it's highly random if you get something good or bad.

I want to be seen as a client, that way they'll have to convince me that they'll actually doing something useful to get paid. The chiropractors actually help a little bit, but only for a week or two at a time and then they'll have to it over again to keep the gains. This is obviously expensive and annoying, but it's far better then anything a doctor has managed so far.

I do not explain how private medicine is only affordable for rich people. My stories explains how good medicine is only affordable for rich people in the Swedish system. If I wasn't rich enough to spend a few K USD my girlfriend would be doomed to live with her back pain for the rest of her life. Since I have the money to spend on this at least we have hope that it'll get better.

That's my point. Except I think we should go all private instead putting it all under government control. This stupid system we have no fucks over everyone that can't pay for private care and there's no incentive for politicians and others to fix it. If I did not have a lot of money I have no idea how I'd be able to fix this situation.

healthcare is a basic human right. Why privatize it when only a certain amount of people could afford it... Unless everyone has enough money to pay for private education/school then it is stupid to privatize it, because that weakens the poor and stops them from contributing to society, as well as attacking their basic human right.

Also, don't see how anything with its #1 goal to maximize profits can even be considered to have greater empathy.

But you don't have the knowledge to understand it. It's better to acknowledge this point, instead of seeking for an explanation where you won't find any.
I understand that you are a liberal, and you know better than me that the correct sharing of the information (dunno the correct term) is a crucial base of it. In this case, the parties (you the so called client, and doctors) don't have the same information. You are not in a position to "choose" the best one based on the information you have.

sorry for shitty english.

I might not be, but given some time different doctors will get different reputations and that will help a lot. I don't have any knowledge about cars either, but give me 30 minutes with google and I'll find out the specs and reputation of whatever car I want to buy (in fact, I spent a few hours last time, but you get the point).

In this case it took the private doctor about 30 minutes to figure out where in the back the problem was located, and told us that it was either old scare tissue from an old slipped disc or that a disc had kind of gotten slightly damaged (Swedish term made sense, not sure how to translate it). She'll get an MRI to figure out exactly what the problem is and while it might be hard to fix, it'll at least made sure that physiotherapists and such can give her good training programs.

Now we have some decent hope that she'll get better. Without private health care we wouldn't have that.
