set mining with 33 oop there to a late position raise from a looser opponent is -ev almost always. Thought this was common no shit brah pokah knowledge.

doing something unprofitable to balance for doing something else unprofitable is not a good idea

I would have folded 33 if I was him. SB is not the BB. Im way more likely to call from BB than SB. It's less money to call and it isn't vulnerable to a 3bet. But I probably wouldn't call with either unless I knew I was likely to get pizzaid if I hit.

so what about suited connectors and suited aces then? I almost always flat those from the blinds especially if it's gonna be multiway.
