I don't like this line too much, imo it's a bit passive. I probably lead the flop, then see how it plays out. You PROBABLY have a LOT of outs so it's not horrible as long as you know you have implied odds behind, you don't quite have the immediate odds. At this point, he probably puts you on 89 type of hand - his bet looks like a scared protective bet.
