either bet turn or shove when he bets after u check
Things that are extremley important for future pupose - villian flats preflop vs a EP opener and chooses to flat again vs a squeeze, he never has AK pre (we can assume this since he didnt 3-bet pre, and didnt backrasise 4b, same aplies to KK AA etc..) therefore the only hand that maybe beats us on the turn is AQ (and it's unlikley since u have an ace blocker + he has 17% 3b (small sample size) but still a big number. From a hand combo perspective its way more likely he has AJ, AT, A9s, A8s A7s etc.. KQ, KJ, QJ, JT diamonds etc.. in either case your hand is the stone nuts on the turn and u played it like a bitch.

Before you squeeze at any point try and assess the ranges of each coldcaller - the best and most profitable squeezes are when someone with a very high 3-bet % decides to cold call, which is actually the case here - it's almost important you play postflop well, this turn check call makes me cringe - as well as the river fold

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us and as we let our own lights shine we unconsciously give other people permision to do the same

You are totally right. I often get very passive and scared, when something confuses me. Gotta work on keeping my mind analysing in these situation instead of going into panic mode.
