I am completely brand new. I just learned the notes (high e, b, g, d, a, low e) and now am working on chords. If anyone has any advice or help they would like to offer please do so via whatever. Thanks.

start learning your keys and what notes are minors/majors, and what dogmeat said is true to an extent...
really easy place to start up is with blues, cause the progressions are all the same basically (see I-IV-V progression) and the scale is really easy to solo with. wish I woulda started out there. if your into fingerpicking which is tons of fun when you learn, start out with something simple like stairway to heaven to get a good feel for it.
or you can just learn simple chord progressions like in every mainstream rock song today lols... idk whatever your into i could probably recommend something better to you so i gotta know what you wanna play first

most important thing is to keep yourself interested.

it's obvious that learning by scales, and scaling is the most 'efficient' way to learn, however, you'll burn out like a bad cigar if you do so.

stay interested. play a couple hours a day. get some serious callous on your fingers. learn tons of new tabs. learn the easier songs you like.

most of all, enjoy. otherwise, whats the fucking point?

Learn all the basic chords. Everything is based around them. When you see the structure of a chord, and start reading "tabs" you will see how riffs and licks are all based off simple chords.

6 basic major chords - E, D, G, A, F (hard one at first!), C. These are all the basic chords. When you know these, many of the other chords are much easier. (B for example is v similar to F, Am is v similar to E, etc )

Get some basic songs, like Bob Dylan and stuff, which is like 3-4 chords. Learn rhythm and practice changing chords over and over again. Don't be trying to learn some epic guitar solo's yet, it just wont happen, and will probably sound horribly out of time Practice untill your fingers are about to fall off with pain, and then practice more. Practice practice practice.

apparently you should try the beginners course on justinguitar.com

Researchers used brain scans to show that when straight men looked at pictures of women in bikinis, areas of the brain that normally light up in anticipation of using tools, like spanners and screwdrivers, were activated.

its like poker, there are training sites, videos, strategy and a lot of bullshit, just read the basic stuff and practice a lot and you'll get better

Browsing through your hand histories makes me wonder that you might not be aware these games are possibly play money. Have you ever tried to cash out? - Kapol

Yea the trick to guitar is just a ton of practice. What kind of music are you into?

OpWestAcct   United States. Apr 28 2011 23:58. Posts 640

I'm into everything. From Reggae to Christian and Country to Techno. I love music and never have tried any instrument so I was eager to see what I can accomplish. I figured guitar is the best because it alone can create a lot of songs and is very portable.

One big thing I'd do is focus on the 3 easy chords G,C,D. Use www.ultimate-guitar.com and piddle through songs until you find one that uses those chords (ALOT of songs use just those 3 chords). Learn that song, and a few others with those chords, that will help you learn the rhythm with your right hand, and when you feel extremely confident with those, throw in the E and A chords and find songs there too. Avoid F and B chords early on as they are bar chords and much more difficult to form. Thats basically what I did and after about 6 months there weren't many simple songs I couldn't figure out, and could work my way through a few more difficult songs. Thats my 2 cents.

Run good, button!

Learn your open chords, G, C, D Dm, E Em, A Am,
-Work on your rhythm, and the speed at which you transition between chords
-Add in bar chords like F Fm, B Bm (once you know those two the rest are the same just played on different frets)
-Work on your rhythmn, and the speed at which you transition between chords

You should play Green Day - Good riddance
and work on your rhythm there.

http://www.guitaretab.com/g/green-day/21883.html

Just work on the bottom part if you don't know how to pick or finger pick yet.
Listen to the song, play it, repeat till you can synch.
If you can get the first downstroke on every chord switch thats important. Just add in the rest of the rhythm later.
