Got tired of my old comp, went to go get more ram but that was gonna cost like 60$ or something. So i decided to just buy all new stuff, i got a 500gb HDD, using my old Geforce 9800 graphics card, picked up 4GB of DDR800 ram, and a AMD 2.8ghz true quad core thingey... its like a Phenom 2.. i dont stay up to date with this stuff like i used to, but im guessing ill be happy with it all.. i got windows 7 ultimate 64bit so that should be cool..

the guy at the store told me it may be hard to get all 4 cores working, so if anyones dealt with hooking this up plz give me tips, also i duno anything about 64bit junk, im guessing most software doesnt take advantage of 64bit technology unless it was made for it... so yea like HEM and pstars prolly wont use this stuff?? also im new to windows 7, id like to get hooked up with the cool shit for it, like CPU temp meters if possible at least for the first few days so i can make sure im not cooking my comp.. and maybe some decent weather gadgets or w/e..

so if any of you guys have anything cool that i should snag for my new comp please let me know. Im gonna cut down from 4 monitors to 3 most likely and just run 3 24in monitors in a L shape.

other than that i had a pretty good weekend in eugene, played a 1-1 live game and broke even, and then just drank a bunch and watched the oregon ducks pwn the civil war game. Gonna get back onto the online grind hard and start saving up some money for an apartment in las vegas in the next 4-5 months.

"Got tired of my old comp, went to go get more ram but that was gonna cost like 60$ or something. So i decided to just buy all new stuff"

makes sense.

what the guy at the store meant is that not every application will be able to use the 4 cores so don't worry about it there is no tweaking to be done. if it can it will.

you can go in control panel > desktop gadgets > get more gadgets online and the apps that you are looking for should be in the most popular ones there. for monitoring your temps you can download everest ultimate online, and enable it to run as a gadget too.

Yeah I don't know why you wouldn't be able to get all 4 cores working. Even if you have a really old motherboard that still supports the socket it should run all 4 cores fine.
HEM is 32-bit unfortunately. All processors though nowadays are 64-bit, you can't even find one that is 32-bit. With Windows you won't notice much of a difference between 32-bit and 64-bit apps unless you're running them side by side. Having four cores though definitely helps out with multitasking.

You probably wouldn't need any more ram, but I've got 4gb of I believe DDR1033 Kingston ram that's brand new. If you've got two slots open I'll sell it for $50. I have 8gb in one of my comps, and then I guess I already had my other computer maxed and didn't realize it when I ordered the ram.

Chris your blogs need to be more exciting, I was very upset after I realized I wasted 2 minutes of reading nothing about the following: Chris getting lost overnight, Chris trying to eat as many McChickens as possible, Chris boasting about his HON skills and lastly, Chris raging about how luck is always against him.

Overall rating of 1.5/5 stars, lets try a little harder next time.

Sincerely,
The Stailler

The deal about the 4 cores to which he was referring is the fact that some Phenom II processors have 4 cores, but only 3 are enabled for use, due to manufacturing defects. As a result, these chips are severely discounted, but you can sometimes unlock the 4th core. Basically you're getting a quad core processor for the price of a 3 core processor. Dont let the defect confuse you with quality, the chips are perfectly stable and sold to retail outlets like this. However if unlocked, they are usually unstable. Anyway you probably wont be able to do this, it's like 15% of all 3 core Phenom processor's can even unlock, and of those only 30% are stable.

You're assumptions about 64bit programs are correct. HEM and stars and anything like that will absolutely fly on your system. So will most modern video games if you bought a decent video card. Beyond that, windows is windows, dont fall into the hype, an OS just runs your system, nothing all that fancy to do with it by itself. If you want some system monitoring stuff, you can try the free version of Everest, or just look up your motherboard manufacturer and download what utilities they provide.

bye now
