Just got back from a snowboarding trip in Åre, Sweden. As I was there I came to the realization that I really dont want to move back to my appartment and just grind poker after this. Im just tired of living in a small town in sweden when I could be living anywhere in the world as long as I have a solid internet connection. Also, if all goes well I will go back to school in the fall and this months up to that might be the only opportunity to do a long trip I will have in a long time.
A long dream of mine has been to go boarding in Canada where the best powder snow in the world is to be found. I have the money, I have the time. Why the fuck wouldnt I? Gogo imo! Just gotta sort a bunch of stuff out before I go, like, find a place to live and stuff. Im pretty pshyced about the whole idea of it though and I cant believe I didnt think of this earlier.
This blogpost didnt really have a purpose more than to ramble I guess but If anyone has been to whistler feel free to share any useful information you can think of.
BOING!

I spent 6 months snowboarding in whistler the 07/08 season and its the best place ever.
http://www.piquenewsmagazine.com/pique/index.php
look at the ads there its the local newsletter where i found my apartment last year. With the olympics coming up though its gonna be a bitch to find a place and its gonna be crowded and expensive as hell.
If you can´t find a place online you can always just go there and find a place. Since whistler is so expensive there is always people going broke and leaving apartments. It´s always gonna be alott harder to find a place this far into the season though
But for every question regarding Whistler, Google is your friend really.

Was there the epic 06/07 season, check snow history(http://www.whistler.com/history/)!
I recommend it!
Tried finding a place late December, was a pain in the ass. I would definatly fix a place to stay before going there. Very hard to finding accomandation(unless you want to stay in pemberton or squamish, towns closes to whistler)
Must warn you for all the powder junkies tho. All power accessible from the lifts + all powder accessible within 20min hiking will be gone in less than 1 hour after the lifts open...sad but true.
But i would go for it!

I live about 45 mins away from whistler its a great place all year round. In whistler theres village #1 and village #2 there both little areas side by side (2min drive) and they both have tons of neat little shops. The resturaunts are awsome and even there night clubs are pretty sweet as well. You'll have a great time, the place is gonna be full of other Euros and tourists from all over so im sure youll meet lots of new intersting people. Because of the 2010 olympics and that its whistler in general housing is gonna be really pricey. However, because of the economy it may be down from the norm. Definately go for it YOU WONT REGRET IT |
