I'm curious about doing some volunteer work overseas, in less fortunate countries, tho I don't have any "useful" skills that'll be a benefit to anyone. If I go to college, what should I take that'll be useful for volunteer work and helping people? something no longer than 1-2 years, any ideas?
It feels pretty shitty knowingly living a meaningless life. Sitting in front of my computer all day has taken it's tole on me; depression. I need to find something more.. I've been losing interest in poker for awhile now. so clueless on what to do with my life.

@OP: your idea is noble, but it's not the only thing you can do. I mean it doesn't have to be a big scary commitment like this. You can start small doing charity work with animals or the homeless and see if you like it. People and animals in need are not what's missing in this world, no matter where you are.

Learn a bit about simple carpentry/construction work, then go help build some houses in latin america. Everyone enjoys a free slave who can hold a hammer.
BTW, we also enjoy them in halifax. Hell, I know someone who might even give you free room and board.

You want to help that's awesome, there is plenty of help needed around you/near you I'm sure. Try it out and if you like it then you can think about doing it overseas.

You don't even need to learn anything before helping out at http://www.techo.org/en , it's a pretty big org that builds houses for really poor families. I know a lot of friends that are helping out, they say it's really fun too cuz everyone is young. It's nice because you are actually useful and see the results of your work fairly fast.
Dont fall for that trap, all those ONG for young people are just cheap ways to meet chicks. If u really care about helping others, keep crushing at poker, make some money and donate it.

I had the same feeling when I was playing full time, so I volunteered in a charity shop in town. I got to meet lots of people (and yes, hot girls are often in charity ships looking for bargains!), and just having something to force me out of bed before midday every now and then was great. Try it.
