Rudi Assauer (67 years old) probably one of the most famous football club managers in germany has made it public that he suffers from heavy Alzheimers.
Its allready that bad that he is not allowed to drive a car anymore
He currently is taken care of by his family
He states that its so bad that he sometimes looks at players from Schalke04 whom he had close working contacts for years and now often needs several minutes to recognize their names again.
I find this pretty tragic
He had such a hard working and successfull life as Manager of Schalke 04
During his time they won UEFA CUP, DFB Pokal came close to winning the national title several times (never managed to win though)
he pretty much was the face of that football club
And now everything he achieved slowly fades away from his memory till in a few years he wont even know what Schalke04 means.
I formyself have always had a very modest goal in Life ....
When i am old I want to be able to look back at my life and say " hey u did pretty well on the fun part and lived a pretty happy life overall"
I find it cruel beyond imagination to be 67 years old having lived a pretty amazing and successfull life and when looking back all u realize is : "I dont know what i ve done and i will die without realizing that i ever lived."
To me this would be like fucking soulrape for eternity

In many cases you will fully realize that u are basically turning into a braindead untill the very end (maybe your last year before u die u dont realize anything anymore)
But before that u often are fully aware that u slowly but steadily lose all your memories
U forget persons names ... u forget what u have done and finally at the end after many years u forget who u are ...
problem is at midpoint of disease it becomes almost imposible to know what is real and what is just your brain dying...
U lose your memories and u also lose your "present reality" (Since at one point its impossible to know what is real) while being fully aware of that fact
This is what makes this disease so brutal.
So it basically takes away your past(memories) your present(knowing what is real) and your future (since your brain is dying)
Yeha it also scares the shit out of me , too |

67 years old, did what he loved and wealthy at that. I good life by any standard.
I fail to see where the tragedy lies.
Tragedy is a seven year old boy being hit by a car and dying, only to be followed by his sister killing herself on mothers day.

I feel for the family more, it's tough taking care of someone like that. But yeah each day someone else out there in this world is living out our worst nightmares (e.g. eaten alive by animals, violent murder, drowning, accidents) |

Alzheimer isnt even the most tragic mental disease.
Schizophrenia develops usually around 20 years of age, and its more mentally destructive than Alzheimer, many end up committing suicide.
