so i took about a week off since that downswing last week and played my first session today (lots of tests coming up to study for so i didnt play plus i wanted a few days to get my mindset straight).

and yea i really have no clue what im doing so wrong. lost 6 of my last 7 sessions, -7 buyins in my last 4 (about 5800 hands total). i doubt this is just a bad run of luck and i'd really like to not blame variance. im going to start posting a few hands from each session i play that im unsure about and hopefully learn from it. im afraid that im spewing in other spots that i dont even notice though. i think im playing pretty solid, tight ABC poker, playing about 11/10. if i drop down to $200 im gonna take a step back and try NL5 before continuing with NL10. i also think i played with a really, really clear head today compared to last week, but man i dunno.

Hopefully this time i wont tilt and play better. Because iw as break even in 100nl for 2 weeks which put me on mass tilt causing me to cashout 500 of my roll. Anyhow...

what type of game should I play? by luddite, October 24

I just started playing a little over a month ago, and right now I'm at NL10 on PS. I've been playing mostly full ring cash games, and I'm wondering if that's really the best way to go. It seems like a majority of people on this site play 6 max- why is that? What are the advantages of full ring vs. 6 max vs heads up vs tournaments? Alternatively, should I look at playing some other games like Omaha or 5 card draw?

first live tourney = first ez ship by vlseph, October 24

So I went to the mall with my girlfriend and since she was going to spend an hour or two shopping for a shirt, I decided to go to Barnes and Nobles to read some books. I looked at the poker section and saw something by Negreanu and read it for five minutes, then I walked over to the Starbucks and I saw 3 kids playing poker.

I asked them if I could watch them play since I was bored, then they asked if I wanted to play instead. I said "Sure, are we playing for money?" They told me they were, and we'd buy-in for $5 and winner takes all. Some fat kid sat out and I bet at like every pot and they just folded me ez $10 ship.

Final hand I called a shove with 44 against 22 and we both hit sets but he failed to make quads so I can buy like 10 value menu items tonight.

I think this is a calling and that I should just hit Vegas and become a high stakes grinder since I've won 100% of my live sessions and compared to my online sessions, it's like 0%. Wish me luck LP, I'll try to make it as a pro. Where will my $10 take me? Only time will tell.

Attack Hoax by k2o4, October 24

Talk about race baiting. Yesterday a 20 year old McCain volunteer told the police she had been robbed by a large black man who proceeded to beat her up and carve a letter "B" in her face when he saw her McCain bumper sticker, telling her that she would "be a Barrack supporter". Today she admitted to the police that she MADE THE ENTIRE THING UP! SHE LIED!!!"

This happened in Pennsylvania, a state she moved to 2 weeks ago because it is an important swing state and the McCain campaign is basing their entire strategy on winning it. Yesterday all the right wing front men (Limbaugh, FOX news, Drudge) all drummed up this story even though the police were skeptical from the start. Why were they skeptical? Well not only did her story keep changing, but the "B" on her face was carved BACKWARDS, as it would if you did it while looking in a mirror! Dear lord. Also the ATM didn't have any record of her being there in the video footage or the receipts.

Crazy.

October so far... by d.Apollo, October 24

Hey liquidpoker users and other viewers!! Just sitting down before I hit couple of dexter episodes and thought id update you with my progress so far this month!!!

At the start of the month, I was playing 10nl and set myself a couple of goals to finish by the end of the month... So firstly, I will just go over them. Below are my listed aims for October.

1. Main one obvioulsy is push for $500, which would mean gaining 28buyins over 31days which should be possible!!!
2. I am concentrating on 4tabling 10nl, really getting a feel for players/table (I don't have or use ingame stats) I want to improve my game, not robot it out, quality not quantity!!!
3. Post more in the forums, I feel this will express my opinion instead of keeping thoughts to myself, and then hopefully be corrected when out of line in thoughts.
4. Really concentrate of identifying LEAKS... I already know of a few and already started the plumbing work!!

Now I shall just quickly go over them.

1. This was certainly raped quite easily... My bankroll is currently sitting at $1014. I took two shots at 25nl and just starting my 2nd shot at 50nl, so I really surpised myself with my progress here.
2. I have been playing mainly 4tables of 25/50nl concentrating on players, fish, stats and like I said, simply improving my game. Thanks for midian as always, with his help, I certainly have changed from a 8/8 nit.
3. I post around more, some stupid topics (neilly $3rebuy :D) and I read/post in the lowstakes forum, so this has gone well also!
4. Identifying leaks, midian again helped me out here. I know I still have leaks in my game and its far from being stable for 50nl play, trying hard to vastly improve this aspect of my game at all times.

As you can see, things are going rather well for me this month, I have had my share of downswings, break even patches and heaters... and because of the amount I play, it happens often which you will see in my graph in a minute.

Ok... gunna hit up few graphs of this month!!! Please comment on what you think and slag me off for mass of hands.

In real life, I haven't really done too much this month, midian came up and stayed at mine for a week over my birthday which was cool, lots of beer/drunkness and money wasted on pool/itbox machine/ and basically crap, funfunfun. I went to see Oasis live last night in Cardiff which was pretty fucking sick. Class band, class show, well worth going!! Haven't really had much luck on the birding aspect of life since I been concentrating mostly of my football and poker So that sucks ;D

I am attending an EA event in London next thursday and then going into Coventry for i35 (UK LAN) so ill be around to chill/talk/game/poker it up if any1 is around and interested in meeting up!! Then after that, I will be flying to Germany for WCG where I will fail at my tournament because of poker lolz. I guess thats about it... OH LOL ONE MORE THING.

I was driving home last night from Oasis in Cardiff, and ran over a Badger... doing about 60-70mph, 2mins later, tempterature gage on my car started beeping and it rose up.... FUCK.. badger raped my radiator -.- Not cool, had to get break down recovery guys out to pick me and mate up ROFL...

GG GL GG

TT is trash by Night2o1, October 24

Only use TT as a set mine is my new rule. I wish I had a poker tracking program going on this computer, because I'd show how I'm break even at NL50 because I pick up TT 10 times a session and lose a stack every time I get action on it, mostly pf.

Its great!

Seriously though, this is really making me sick. Maybe I just don't understand how to play poker at all preflop, or maybe I just run like dog shit with TT lately, but its driving me crazy

Make-Believe Maverick by k2o4, October 24

Rolling Stone wrote a very in depth article examining McCain's history and revealed a lot of info that I bet the vast majority of Americans have no clue about. It's a great read and very informative. I definitely think everyone should check out the article which is called "Make-Believe Maverick: a closer look at the life and career of John McCain reveals a disturbing record of recklessness and dishonesty".

If you're too lazy to read, they made a short video called "Five Myths About John McCain" which kinda summarizes the article:

Video: http://www.rollingstone.com/videos/player/23356460

I'll highlight a few good paragraphs for ya, or you can click the spoiler to read the entire thing.

Full article: + Show Spoiler +

Back on campus, McCain's short fuse was legend. "We'd hear this thunderous screaming and yelling between him and his roommate — doors slamming — and one of them would go running down the hall," recalls Phil Butler, who lived across the hall from McCain at the academy. "It was a regular occurrence."

When McCain was not shown the pampering to which he was accustomed, he grew petulant — even abusive. He repeatedly blew up in the face of his commanding officer. It was the kind of insubordination that would have gotten any other midshipman kicked out of Annapolis. But his classmates soon realized that McCain was untouchable. Midway though his final year, McCain faced expulsion, about to "bilge out" because of excessive demerits. After his mother intervened, however, the academy's commandant stepped in. Calling McCain "spoiled" to his face, he nonetheless issued a reprieve, scaling back the demerits. McCain dodged expulsion a second time by convincing another midshipman to take the fall after McCain was caught with contraband.

In the air, the hard-partying McCain had a knack for stalling out his planes in midflight. He was still in training, in Texas, when he crashed his first plane into Corpus Christi Bay during a routine practice landing. The plane stalled, and McCain was knocked cold on impact. When he came to, the plane was underwater, and he had to swim to the surface to be rescued. Some might take such a near-death experience as a wake-up call: McCain took some painkillers and a nap, and then went out carousing that night.

Off duty on his Mediterranean tours, McCain frequented the casinos of Monte Carlo, cultivating his taste for what he calls the "addictive" game of craps. McCain's thrill-seeking carried over into his day job. Flying over the south of Spain one day, he decided to deviate from his flight plan. Rocketing along mere feet above the ground, his plane sliced through a power line. His self-described "daredevil clowning" plunged much of the area into a blackout.

That should have been the end of McCain's flying career. "In the Navy, if you crashed one airplane, nine times out of 10 you would lose your wings," says Butler, who, like his former classmate, was shot down and taken prisoner in North Vietnam. Spark "a small international incident" like McCain had? Any other pilot would have "found themselves as the deck officer on a destroyer someplace in a hurry," says Butler.

"But, God, he had family pull. He was directly related to the CEO — you know?"

Then, in an instant, the world around McCain erupted in flames. A six-foot-long Zuni rocket, inexplicably launched by an F-4 Phantom across the flight deck, ripped through the fuel tank of McCain's aircraft. Hundreds of gallons of fuel splashed onto the deck and came ablaze. Then: Clank. Clank. Two 1,000-pound bombs dropped from under the belly of McCain's stubby A-4, the Navy's "Tinkertoy Bomber," into the fire.
...
These are the moments that test men's mettle. Where leaders are born. Leaders like . . . Lt. Cmdr. Herb Hope, pilot of the A-4 three planes down from McCain's. Cornered by flames at the stern of the carrier, Hope hurled himself off the flight deck into a safety net and clambered into the hangar deck below, where the fire was spreading. According to an official Navy history of the fire, Hope then "gallantly took command of a firefighting team" that would help contain the conflagration and ultimately save the ship.

McCain displayed little of Hope's valor. Although he would soon regale The New York Times with tales of the heroism of the brave enlisted men who "stayed to help the pilots fight the fire," McCain took no part in dousing the flames himself. After going belowdecks and briefly helping sailors who were frantically trying to unload bombs from an elevator to the flight deck, McCain retreated to the safety of the "ready room," where off-duty pilots spent their noncombat hours talking trash and playing poker. There, McCain watched the conflagration unfold on the room's closed-circuit television — bearing distant witness to the valiant self-sacrifice of others who died trying to save the ship, pushing jets into the sea to keep their bombs from exploding on deck.

Trieng HU again by SikLife18, October 24

k, well u can see from my previous blog what my journey has been like. 3 days ago i deposited and told myself I wont move up stakes till i hit 2000, and even then ill decide if my games good enough to move up to nl 100. So yesterday my bankroll was at about 137 before i started playing. I sat at a table and didnt leave it for a while. Think this is the most buyins ive won before leaving a table, other one was at nl10 6max where i was sitting with 107$ before finally leaving the table.

<3 Donkaments + overdue updates by JoeDeertay, October 24

It's been a looooooooooooooooong time since my last update because I haven't really been playing all that much this semester because of school, but I figure now is a perfect time to get back up to speed. I think the last time I made a blogpost was last semester. Since then I've been doing some big things.

At the start of the summer time I decided that I was going to move from stars to FTP to get the deposit bonus and rakeback after paying Ja Hunta's stake money back. So after I paid him I got my roll to $600 playing NL10 on stars and cashed it out to deposit on FTP for the bonus and to get some RB. I played on NL25 and NL50 and started a small shot at NL100 when I hit $3k, got my roll to about $2500 before getting kicked off of FTP because I apparently had an old account that I deposited like $20 on 2 years ago that I forgot about. FTP moved my money to the old account and closed the RB account, so I decided to just cash it out and go somewhere else.

Then I had the bright idea of bonus whoring for the last month of the summer and did some research. I decided to split my roll on UB and PlayersOnly and grind out their bonuses+rakeback and try to clear the bonuses within a month, so by the time I got back to school I would have a big roll that I could move back to stars, play like NL200 and try getting Supernova before the end of the year.

PlayersOnly went great and I got my $500 deposit up to about $1550 before cashing it out (and I forgot to get rakeback there too so I didn't get anything from that). However, I first tried cashing out like 6 weeks ago, and I had to cancel it once because they were backlogged and wanted to give me a free $230 bonus (15%) which I decided to just take and try withdrawing again. I still don't have the check, but it says that it takes them 3-5 weeks to process it so I'm not calling BS just yet. Overall, despite them taking forever to process my cashout request I really liked the site and esp the software and would definitely play there again if I didn't need the liquidity.

As for UB....I completely and utterly hate that website and their software with a passion. I deposited $1k on there, got it up to like $1400, then went on an epic lifetilt downswing to like $130 total on the site. There was a point at which I literally could not win a hand and I was playing terribly as a result of the tilting that occurred. Needless to say, things were not going according to plan, and as of about a month ago I was close to busto (or at least had no access to any kind of real BR to play with considering how my Players money was locked up) because by this time I also used the rest of my liquid roll to pay for rent and other things that I needed money for irl. What I ended up doing was just moving my UB roll to stars and grinding NL5 lol.

I was literally busto after I had to once again withdraw all of my stars roll to make more irl payments. The only stimulus I got was a $5k RTR freeroll on UB last month in which I won $90 for getting 6th or something. I moved that to stars and got it up to like the $125 I have there now by playing just a few random sessions and playing the 200k every sunday for kicks.

And then this week happened. I somehow was able to play in the RTR freeroll again on UB last sunday, and I ended up taking 2nd for $960. The next day I played a few tourneys, one of them being a $27.50 7.5k guarantee that I got 4th in for $600. Then last night I played a $44 deepstack 3k guarantee (500BB starting OMGGGGGGGG loved it =] ) and took 2nd in that for another $600. Less a -$150 session at NL50 and 2 other tourneys I busted, my BR went from $0 on UB on saturday to $1933 and change as of midnight last night XD. Also, PlayersOnly emailed me and said that my withdrawal was processed and that I can expect a check for $1780 and change within 10 business days. So basically my roll is going to go from $0 to about $3800 in like 2 weeks lol.

I'm planning on moving back to FTP to play NL50 on a deeeeep roll while also maybe taking some shots at NL100 again on like $3k of that roll, since FTP decided to give me their own kind of rakeback deal that everyone got in the emails. I'm going to cashout like $800 to pay for rent and some other things that I need this month and the rest is going to go to grinding FTP + rakeback. Since I have a real job in Food Services at school I don't really NEED to make money by playing, so I might just spend the month datamining FTP games for my expected playtimes and trying to keep pwning UB MTTs and such in the meantime trying to get a big score (I still have $790 of pending bonus money there, too). Either way it feels reall nice to have a BR again and I can't to get back to full-time grinding!

GL all,
-Joe
