| | January Update by Orome, January 25
Hey guys, I started January (my third month of poker) with a ~500$ bankroll, playing NL25 and a few NL50 shots.
The month started off really well, I got my bankroll up to 1000 quickly, switched to NL50 and things went smoothly there from the start. I have a 13bb/100 winrate at NL50 after 20k hands, which I guess is both an indication that I have an edge there and that I ran pretty good.
I got my bankroll up to 1850, then decided to take a shot at NL100. Things have been going pretty badly since then, I started off well, getting my BR up to 2350 despite running pretty badly, but have been on a downswing since then.
I guess I really shouldn't complain because this was bound to happen sometime and I ran good before now, but I ran really, really terribly in the last few days. I've actually lost about 300$ with flopped sets at NL100 because I ran into a ridiculous amount of coolers and I don't even want to talk about my results with pocket aces.
Anyway, this is my graph for the month so far, I'll move back down to NL50 because my BR's back at 1400 (it was at 1700 10 minutes ago, but I just lost 2 AI for 150bb with set vs straight and flush over flush lol).
All in all, I guess a 1.5k month (with RB) isn't bad since this is only my third month, but it's still a really disappointing end.

A few things I've been wondering and would like some opinions on:
Do you think it makes sense for me to get a coach at this stage of my poker career? If yes, do you have a suggestion of a good coach for ~100NL?
What's a good fold to cbet percentage?
Thanks for reading!

| | Went Busto First Time in 6 Years plz read by RealArkons, January 25
I was told I should make a blog from another forum so here it is.
Hello Guys,
Well my friend lipton told me about this site said a bunch of SC players are here. Some of you may remember thought I doubt it. I was top 10 in season 1, 2 and 3 ( i could have been like 11th in one of them my nickname was Arkons and someone has been using it on this forum it appears because I cannot make the name.
Anyways I will come out with it, I have been playing poker for 6 years and I went busto yesterday. I will tell the truth, I actually drunkily made a sportsbet for get this.... my entire bankroll, I actually thought that it was a for sure bet and there is no way id lose. I keep my roll at 5k and play 1-2 and 2-4 multi tabling. I have never had money issues but I did not put any money aside for rent or anything, before you flame me ill be the first to say im a stupid moron.
I know its a long shot but I really need help, I need someone to stake me on their terms, I have just moved in a new apartment in dallas i was in houston and I cant even pay rent. I am a consistent winner from 4-6bb/hr in both 1-2 and 2-4 while 4-6 tabling.
I am hoping someone is kind enough to help me and stake me, I have never asked for money from anyone in my life I have always had an overabundance and made many loans over the years. All my poker friends (supposed friends) wont lift a finger to help me which is very sad to me they know i am a winner and the highest limit player drives an aston martin he paid cash for and has several hundred thousand.
I wont ramble on I will just say I need help. I dont even have money for anything even food this is no joke I pray someone can help me i will be so grateful and careful and play on your terms. I have a party account my friend made for me from uk a ftp account and a playersonly account(cake). Thanks for the consideration I know its a long shot and I hope this is the right forum. I will be up all night because I cannot sleep im so stressed I have a daughter and I cant get a job let alone a paycheck for food and rent. I should be able to pay the stake back in 2 weeks or less and I will continue to play if youd like. I am a winner please trust in this(except sports betting i learned my lesson)

Just felt like posting something random here
Oh, I'm starting NL25 now, wish me luck guys, I reset my PT database too since there was some mixed hands in there from before the guide was written, I figure NL25 is just as good as time as any to start a fresh one+I just got the new PT3 upgrade)

So am i broke again? no.
i've somehow gotten my roll back up to around 400. I started today off at 480, but after losing some hands, and staking someone for 60, i'm back around 400 again. I'm taking this shot at nl25 seriously, and It seems to be going pretty well, i'm not running like a god, but I'm doing pretty well.
I hope that the tilting and br problems of that past are behind me so i can focus on getting myself to nl50 and then supporting myself with poker.
i still have a lot of leaks in my game, like not reading my cards correctly, so if anyone could help sweat me or something that would be greatly appreciated.
wish me luck!

So it's Chinese New Year's eve here and a long weekend since Monday and Tuesday are the 1st and 2nd days of Chinese New Year and they are public holidays, but it's not going to be much of a holiday since I am buried in work and won't even have the time to do the mandatory Chinese New Year's eve gambling session. But if you want to celebrate Chinese New Year like a Chinese, here's what you have to do:
1. Stay up all night on New Year's Eve (25th Jan this year) and gamble. The later you stay up on New Year's eve, the longer your parents will live. And, obviously, the only way to persuade someone to stay up that late is to break out the cards or mahjong tiles. The luck you have in this gambling session is supposed to follow you throughout the year, so make sure you win. If you are invited to someone's house for a party on New Year's Day, prepare to gamble again. It's the first session of the year that determines your luck, and since you could start the year at midnight or at dawn, you could take the results of this session if it's better. For many, this is the only time of the year little kids are allowed to gamble, and they have lots of money from red packets (see below), the games will be soft. Take their lunch money without hesitation. If you win, you'll have good luck for the rest of the year. If they win, they won't be allowed to gamble for the rest of the year anyway, so what's the point?
2. If you are not married, visit every married friend and relation you can think of on the first 2 days of Chinese New Year. Anyone who is married will be compelled to give you red packets with cash inside. If you are married with kids, pimp your kids by visiting all the friends and relations who are married without kids. They will be compelled to give your kids red packets. Take the red packets away and tell your kids it's for their college fund. Deposit on PS. If you are married without kids, hide.
3. Refuse to help with household chores on New Year's Day (26th Jan this year). It's bad luck to handle anything sharp or clean the house.
There's a ton of other stuff (clean house thoroughly on New Year's eve) but it's not nearly as fun so just ignore.
I think the general consensus is that this coming year, the Year of the Ox, will be pretty bad for everyone except those born in the Year of the Pig. Check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Year_of_the_pig to see if that's you!
In general, the fortune tellers say succeeding this year requires a lot of patience and steady work (like the ox), as opposed to sudden flashes of brilliance, and I suppose this could apply to poker as well as everything else.
For those interested in slightly more specific horoscopes, there's a free site that has them. http://astrology.suite101.com/article...inese_horoscope_for_sheep_animal_sign gives the horoscope for goats, and searching will turn up horoscopes for other animals.
Happy Chinese New Year to everyone who celebrates it.

| | my great STT experiment by vlseph, January 24
well it isn't so great, but here's my results:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v468/vickter/ftpsngs.png
not all of them are STTs, some of them are from when I first started playing, I don't know how to filter the graph from sharkscope to only this month, but the most recent games are the STTs probably from game 27 and onward. 13% ROI over all these games so far.
much more exciting than cash games I think, the need to keep putting pressure and stealing blinds is very exciting. gonna try these a bit more before going back to the cash, unless I really love it then I'll stick with SNGs.
been watching the deucescracked "last man standing" series to help me out, I don't quite understand how to calculate ICM but I do get the general idea of it.

Having a good run.
I seriously abused some fish today along the way ^^
I promised my fuckin(not in that way ) friend I'd go out with her to dinner so I won't be able to play anymore.. I guess its good to lock up the win though.. I could use a little break and motivation via having a strong winning day.
http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/6c3be74817724dfb269957ff538f963c.jpg
My total nl50 graph looks fucking miserable, its hilarious, I'll post it at the end of the month.. hopefully I will have a nice steady uptrend from now 'til then though.
$200 more for a $2k month (including rb/bonus ). I want 3k+ next month! But I suppose it depends entirely on how my nl100 shots go.
Ahhhh lets do it!

| | Negreanu New Book by k2o4, January 24
I got this new negreanu book that is billed as the "Super system of our age" and shit. I guess that's cause it's like Dan + a bunch of other "pro's" writing different chapters. They focused it all on NLHE though, so that's a plus. One chapter is called "Online short handed cash games" so since that's what I play I went straight to that. It was written by Paul Wasicka, which was kinda weird for me to see since we were in boyscouts together, went to the same highschool, and have lots of mutual friends. So I was hoping it would be good.
Either I'm a pro cash game player or Paul decided to hold back on the secrets, cause his chapter was short and full of general basic advice that I've heard a million times and given about half a million times. He also laid out some stuff that sounded pretty bad. Overall I finished the chapter really quickly and left it going "wtf is this BS?" cause the introduction to the book was hyping about how they were gonna blow my mind.... how this was gonna revolutionize poker... how the strategies were so profound I would need to re-read the book 3 times to understand. I can say without a doubt that Paul didn't deliver on that promise with his chapter. Serious disappointment.
I'm gonna read negreanu's chapter next since that's supposed to be the most mindblowing one, and if it's no good then I'm gonna shelve it.
Oh well, guess books just don't help at this point. Right now my coach is by far the best learning source and then DC videos come in 2nd place.

| | Jan update by zealit, January 24
Hello,
Didn't update december, ran bad/played bad, made like 4 BI at NL25 and most of my profit came from bonus/RB. Didn't put a lot of hand in december either.
I was breakeven for about 10k hands from the start of january and worked on my game. As it turns out, I was playing very bad imo. Fixed my game a lot and now I'm very confident. I got my BR to 1518,90 yesterday and took my first NL50 shot today, which i guess is going to be permanent unless I get back to 1250.
Didn't run too good at NL50, ran into two tough spot and lost KK vs JJ preflop but I'm up.
Here's my NL50 shot graph :
http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n301/zealit/nl50shot.png
As I've written in my last update, I wish I could've started NL50 at the start of Jan, but I worked a lot on my game and I think it was a very good thing.
Oh and I've set myself a goal since I didn't put a lot of hands in December and at the start of Jan. I gotta play at least 1k hands on the days I work and 2k on the days off so that I'll at least put 40K+ per month.
GL at the tables!

Amazing fucking session, just got through 20-25 buy-in downswing running about 10-15 buy-ins below expectation. Lose confidence, rebuild @ 10NL ---> WIN !!! Go to 25NL ---> LOL, DOOMSWITCH, You will play 10NL forever and ever, signed Pokerstars.
Worst thing was, I got slowrolled 3 times in the goddamn session, luckily I sucked out one into a split (AT on AK9 board against AK against huge aggrodonk, came K turn and A river) but some guy had to really think about calling all-in preflop with AA after he posted OOP and raised huge and I 3-bet/5-bet shove after his 4-bet with AKo. Should have fucking been double K board for freaking justice. A huge fucking ''FUCK YOU, GET AIDS'' to the slowrollers of this world.

| | long-term stake by nutshot, January 24
sup all,
my backer recently contracted a lot of his backing operation, and i was one of the horses he cut. therefore, i'm looking for a new long-term backer. i'm posting this in a few different places, and applying to a few different backers, but i figured i'd post it here as well.
for ease, and so that i don't have to repost everything that i've already posted, here's the link to my application: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/135...g/looking-long-term-mtt-stake-390375/
past issues, OPR links/images, what i'd like to play, etc. are included in the link i provided above. if you have any questions, please pm me. if you'd like to speak to my recent backer (a nosebleed stakes HU cash player) about our relationship, pm me and i will give you his email address, as he'd rather not be made public in forums.
thanks for reading. i'll probably bump this in a day or so if it goes off the top 5 quickly.
edit: see this link .. http://www.liquidpoker.net/blog/viewblog.php?id=584408 .. for proof that i run good at the beginning of stakes.
