Well in the next couple days I'll be depositing $400 into my fulltilt account that has $200 already so I'll have a $600 starting bankroll to work with. I plan to work my way up the sit n go lists starting from the very bottom, and plan to keep you inform on what exactly I do and hopefully you will learn something from me and hopefully you leave me posts informing on what I do wrong and learn from you guys as well...

For the lulz by Night2o1, May 15

Meh, I don't want to write a long whine post so I'll keep it brief :D

This is really bad timing. My confidence is shot, and I feel completely useless and impotent. I guess I'm going to move down to 1/3 or 1/2 for the rest of the month and pray that I can break-even for the month and just..whatever y'know? I was hoping for 5/10 during WSOP but its most likely (with any luck) going to be 2/5.. maybe 5/10 by july?

I ended my session after 4hrs today because the tilt has built up to completely unmanageable levels, lol. I'm back at the apartment and am going to chug beers and watch a movie and sit here trying to clear my head. That's the plan, atleast! (Should of picked up some liquor imo)

Gonna watch The Cable Guy now, never seen it before and I <3 jim carrey

Butterfly Effect - WOW by k2o4, May 14

  On April 18 2009 19:10 SfydjkLm wrote:
The better example of missing great things would be the Butterfly Effect that entered the theaters as a mediocre at best movie with a cheesy ending. Its only when the directors cut came out that it really shone as a psychological masterpiece.

I made a post a while back about good movies that were missed due to bad advertising, and sfydjklm made the above post. I decided to put the Directors Cut of Butterfly Effect on my DVD list and see if he was tellin truth. He sure as hell was, cause that movie was fucking awesome! Total mind fuck and really well done. I'm not gonna say anything more other than go put it at the top of your queue.

Now I have to go and look up what the original version was like. I mean, what were the differences between the original and the directors cut... if you can tell me then please do so in a spoiler. I'm dead curious to find out what the changes were.

I'm so bad at poker by Sicks Macks, May 14

I feel like I'm really good at poker, but I only beat nl100 for like 2.5bb/100 plus I can't conquer variance. I'm not really going to get better. Kinda sucks. Whatever, I'M A WINNING PLAYER. WOOT.

3rd day of blogging, still going strong! by Mariuslol, May 14

Pretty weird day rythm, but I'm working on that, think I woke around 02:00
My mate had this really interesting poker book, so I borrowed it. So I read the first chapter when I woke, before I got out of bed.

It's called The Poker Mindset, looks to be a really good book.

Made some fish and rice, went down to the computer and sat and read through some old notes I've written down about poker, after that I opened up some tables, session wasn't that long though, 1 hour 30 minuts or something, but so little tables, I was at the only tables running, and I ran pretty well this session too, so not complaining.

For the first time I got my roll over 2200, which is awesome, but I ended just under 2197,86, but went up 2 and a half buy ins on 20nl.

I'd like to post hands and stuff, but I can't get that submit hand thing to work anymore, I do what I've always done, post in the data, but I get these error messages instead. Weird, have to find out what's wrong.

Think I'm gonna go pee, then watch the 3rd vod in that protege series, bbl <3

**** First Update ****

Done some reading, written some notes, then I got to a pretty interessting post called "5 Most important things for crushing SSNL"

So I decided to write down all the things which looked pretty smart and cool (Even though most of them are like, a hum, yeah, I knew that, mm, obvious!! So forth xD)

- Isolate Donks
- Be Aggressive
- Value Bet
- Avoid FPS (What's FPS? first person shooter ?)
- Utilize position
- Valueshove
- Hand reading. Always always always try to put your opponent on a range of hands.
- Understanding equity
- Avoid tilt
- Remain disciplined (best for pvp yo)
- The number one thing I think decent ssnlers miss is river value bets
- Table selection
- Put pressure on regulars in position
- Adjusting your styles to the games condition
- Be aggressive on more streets, forget about pot controle when in position vs fish etc
- Don't limp
- A strong fundamental understanding of the game (Bleh, I hate answers like that lol)
- Get reads on oponent, write down propper notes
- Work on finding leaks
- Read a lot
- Put in good amount of hands every day
- Try thinking about poker all the time
- Talk with good players (Hmm, should get more on my msn, just got 2 good ones!!)
- Being able to sense impending trouble (I want thiz one!!)
- Maintain focused

All seemd really good, and when I was done I started thinking bout these sick posts I read ages ago, first time I Started reading about poker, and I wrote a compilation, so I started searching through my computer to see if I could find it, I did, and I read through it. Got a chill when reading it, really motivational and good stuff.

Thought I'd paste it here as well, it's pretty long, so I wish I knew how to do that trick I've seen some people do, so you have to klick "Show spoiler" or something to see it, so people don't have to see all that text.

(Actually, I changed my mind, it's so long, so I'll post it in a reply instead, hehe)

**** Mini Update ****

Thought I'd go through all the hands I've played last 2 days, I got really surprised, because I usually just look at the biggest losing hands, and there were so few, I usually look at pots where I lost more than 8 euro. So I must have been running very good lately.

Gonna focus on having it stay that way, and when variance switch and I start to get the short end of it, don't tilt, fuck up, and lose the minimum.

That makes a lot of sense, I think

And oh, the new Bleach manga is out!!

Sick, Barragan the Lich!! Hehe, seem sick strong!!

**** Update ****

Oh, got some rakeback today, happy about it, but a bit annoyed I got screwed by the affiliate I have, think I was promised 50% rakeback, never gotten more than 30%. So T_T to that =p

Was for last two weeks, not played that much so was okay

**** mini update ****

oj, sick, I guess he didn't screw me over anyway xD Checked just now, and I got another 350 euro extra, that's awesome. Roll over 2500 now and I can make stabs at 50nl. Siiiiick

**** Update!! ****

Took a session on 50nl, pretty cool, decided to play just as I'd play on 20nl, and try and don't play scared at all.
Felt I ran pretty good now as well, but close to the end of the session I lost a hand I maybe could have gotten away from, I 3bet with AK and got minraised, and I 5bet, came a flop, low cards and a Q, and I shoved for the rest of my stack, and he had QQ, so that's the biggest pot I lost. But even still I'm up 1 buy in or a little over, so not complaining at all xD

Good session, just short of 2 hours, with 60 euro up <3

summer: week 1 by John Galt, May 14

finally going to play poker seriously
school has always been number 1 priority and i've played like 40k hands all school year. was always trying to nut peddle (and sucking at) NL50 FR for the longest time. its time to cut the tables and actually learn how to play this game.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/b8d02e632441ccb0c0adcac7e1658178.jpg
first 10k hands mostly 6-9 tabling NL25FR, some NL50
4k break even stretch is when I opened up 20 tables of NL25 for pleasure. I don't think I played differently, only that people seemed to fold at all the right times and call whenever I didn't have it.

these last 14k hands i've been running at 25/21 total AFreq of 50% and total AF of 4.9 lol
a nice 4.7 ptbb heater =)

on a side note, who's had their wisdom teeth taken out?
im getting mine out tmr and i hadn't really thought about the pain until my dad just told me people's faces are swollen like none other and they can't eat for 3 days... im almost scared

Staking, Vegas, and APPT Fall by PanoRaMa, May 14

Well, I'm almost even on the month so that's good. But this blog post isn't about that. Recently I've thought about "investing" (both in the metaphorical and literal meaning of the word) some money in one of three ways:

1. Actual investments (start dabbling in stocks, ETFs, etc.)
2. Getting a Personal Assistant/Chef
3. Staking/Backing people

Well I'm a degen at heart so I chose #3. I'm told now is not a good time for #1 since the economy is still going down or something, and #2 would just be a luxury, not necessarily a financial investment. So I've staked my friend for 100nl, which is $4k and I get like $5.5 at the end of everything if he ends up robustoing, which I'm certain he could. It's a high return, but also because I do some coaching/sweating with him too.

Additionally, I've staked bttech86/ben86/Ben Tollerene $9k for 7.5% of his entire Summer WSOP schedule. Kind of a big stake, but he's a good player who does consistently well in tournaments. I also did this because I'm STILL not 21 (I turn 21 in August) so I can't play in the WSOP, but I want to robusto this summer SOMEHOW so I might as well do it vicariously through someone who's bound to destroy an event or two.

I'm still gonna go to Vegas though, just to hang out around June or so. More on that later, maybe there will be a LP meetup?

Next, and what's most exciting for me, is APPT Fall. I've already decided to take Fall Quarter off from school to do traveling and donkamenting (and convinced an RL friend to do the same w/ me). The tentative plan is as follows:

Mid August fly to Macau for APT,
Chill in Shanghai (my parents have a nice pad there) for a week,
Head back to Macau assuming APPT starts around this time (usually it's a week after APT)
Go to Tokyo as my main base of operations, and from there go to different APPT locations, etc. :D

Overall I plan on staying in Asia for like 4 months or so, it's going to be fucking ridiculous.

well just had another session, went fairly well with a really sick beat, check this bad boy 2 outer which i guess i can see as my fault for not cbetting someone pointed out somewhere ???
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/688929
had aces cracked a couple of times but can't win em all hey
Also noticed that people who play short stack strategy really piss me off and i find i make calls lighter and most of the time i suckout they rage which i find a good thing (if im 300bb deep or so i open up my range to them).
Anyway onto the important side of things, heres my graph for so far.
http://img200.imageshack.us/my.php?image=4dayearly.png
So overall steadily progressing which is a good thing imo and ofc a thanks to people who are commenting on hands which i haven't played so well
peace

down 5,4k euro in the last 4 days of playing

I don't want to whine but it's just a series of coolers, setups and some bad beats...bad play is also included. meh

Hopefully I'll win it back soon

No Degree? No Prob! by k2o4, May 14

A few weeks back there was a big drama because ASU said that they wouldn't give Obama an honorary degree when he gave the commencement speech at the 2009 graduation, because he hadn't done enough to deserve it. So when Obama spoke yesterday I wondered how he would handle it. And he came through to deal with it using humor, class, and to turn the situation into a teaching point and a seriously inspirational speech. Here's the humor part:

Now, before I begin, I'd like to clear the air about that little controversy everyone was talking about a few weeks back. I have to tell you, I really thought it was much ado about nothing, although I think we all learned an important lesson. I learned to never again pick another team over the Sun Devils in my NCAA bracket. And your university President and Board of Regents will soon learn all about being audited by the IRS.

The rest of the speech was fantastic. He talked about how we define success and how that focus on materialistic gain needs to be changed. It was insanely inspirational and I have a hard time understanding how people can hate him so much if they are openly listening to him. I guess the haters just don't listen, and that's the problem. I understand disagreement on policy, but the demonization of Obama is just ridiculous and it's moments like these where I sit and think "how the hell can people think this guy is the devil?"

In the face of these challenges, it may be tempting to fall back on the formulas for success that have dominated these recent years. Many of you have been taught to chase after the usual brass rings: being on this "who's who" list or that top 100 list; how much money you make and how big your corner office is; whether you have a fancy enough title or a nice enough car...

I want to highlight two main problems with that old approach. First, it distracts you from what is truly important, and may lead you to compromise your values, principles and commitments. Think about it. It's in chasing titles and status - in worrying about the next election rather than the national interest and the interests of those they represent - that politicians so often lose their way in Washington. It was in pursuit of gaudy short-term profits, and the bonuses that come with them, that so many folks lost their way on Wall Street...

The trappings of success may be a by-product of this larger mission, but they can't be the central thing. Just ask Bernie Madoff.

If you have some time or if you're feeling down, or downswinging, or depressed, then I suggest watching the speech as it's top notch.

Back playing poker by ahole-surprise, May 14

I'm back playing poker after a long break.
I was a losing player 2 months ago, playing NL10 with a 50-100 dollar bankroll. Now I think I really understand the game better, especially cash games, and I'm grinding it out at NL2 for the most part.

However, just as was the problem 2 months ago, I find poker really boring at times and on the whole unsatisfying, especially grinding multitables microstakes.

I find tournaments more fun but the site I'm currently on, absolutepoker, is shit when it comes to game selection, both tournies and cash but especially tournies. Also, it's pretty frustrating to play 1 dollar sit and gos and seeing the kind of hands people suck out on you with. I might just shut down poker if it keeps going like this.
