Clearing a bonus by dahornnn, August 19

ok so i thought id play again now i have alot of time and i have some spare cash to invest into a BR. So basically, i have a bonus on a site and the bonus requires 2k points, ive cleared 10% today BUT ive been playing under rolled and off the back of two bad beats im thinking shit, what an ass i am. Anyways, whats best, survive the grind under rolled to get points quicker = get bonus quicker, or grind the shit out of nl5 ? (Can only play like 6 tables max cos the software is rather turd.) I played for about 8 hours underrolled btw to make 10% of bonus progress.
whats best veterans :<

last 4 days by longple, August 19

ok, 4 days ago i decided to stop the shit masstable grind and concentrate at the fish instead. ive been running really bad (110BI under EV over 3 months if u go back to an earlier blogpost of mine http://www.liquidpoker.net/blog/viewblog.php?id=774508 , if now some1 cares)

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/c45e5955a23946d49df36ab407a47a11.jpg

but anyways, the last 4 days has felt good, less stress, softer sessions and overall a much higher bb/100 winrate.

Ive still ran crap in flips these days but w/e i will get there eventually i guess.. (really looking forward to the day where i can say that ive ran 110BI over expectation ^_^, ofc from playing good in standard spots not just spewing like a monkey winning everything)

Anyways ive tableselected really well these 4 days and only been playing 2 or 3 tables. Its the nuts really, im really raping the regs where i usually dosnt pay to much attention.

Its like i can see everything all of a sudden. playing alot looser to and my redline rules ATM after having it down in the negative usually when i masstable.

Anyways, gl hf! i hope my month will end in the good now after breaking even the first 20k hands before these 4 last days. And maybe get my fucking ass back to NL50 again and maybe start earning some fucking monies of this game..

I really recommend you guys who masstable to cut down some tables once and a while and think about stuff atleast 1 session/week or something.

I will stick to this to get a "real" sample of the 2-3 tabling. But so far so good

ps. sorry for all the EV talk from me all the time, something i need to work on is less whine and less crying over variance, even if its the doomswitch of a lifetime, maybe ive had / will have mine now at 25NL and will run goot at 25 50 next year instead

Help me get supernova by blackjacki2, August 19

So I desperately want supernova because supposedly that is as good as FTP's rakeback and I like the software on stars 10 times more than on FTP. I 6-9 table PLO50 and I don't put very many hands in. I get about 3,000 VPP per month. (Does anyone know how many hands on average that is?) What's the best strategy for me if I want to grind out supernova very quick? Should I just put a ton more hands in or should I try to 24 table full ring NLHE for a couple months? Basically any advice on grinding supernova in terms of games / stakes / # of tables and # of hands required is appreciated.

PokerVT review by NewbSaibot, August 19

So I signed up for a poker training site last month some of you may have heard of called PokerVT. It is a site started by Daniel Negreanu meant to visually explain his latest strategies behind poker.

I had a few hiccups during the initial signup phase where after being charged for service and logging in for the first day, my account was inexplicably terminated due to a technical glitch which somehow claimed my account had expired. According to technical support, this is actually a problem several members have complained about. Technical support resolved the issue that day, however my second month billing cycle started about a week ago, and the same thing happened again. This time technical support was unable to resolve the issue. So for over a week now I have been unable to login to the site, as it claims my account has expired, even though they have clearly billed me for this month. After getting fed up calling technical support multiple times a day I decided to ask for a refund in full for this month's service until they have resolved the problem. At that moment I was told by someone claiming to be the manager that the problem had finally been resolved and I have nothing to worry about anymore. Naturally I'm a bit skeptical since the problem was also "resolved" about 8 times in the last week. Regardless, I still requested this month be refunded to me since I have not been able to use the service for a full month on the pretense that they have overbilled me. Management refused. I then asked to have my account canceled and since I have been prevented from using the service this month due to technical difficulties on their end, requested a refund for this month's service. They refused again. At this point the manager was actually talking over me any time I spoke, rudely interrupting everything I said going on some long circular diatribe about how if I'm canceling then why should I be refunded, and if I'm staying why should I be credited, completely disregarding an entire week of failed access to the site.

So I have filed a dispute with my credit card that I was billed for services never rendered and they will launch an investigation claim. I have also put a block on future payments to their site since they have proven they cannot be trusted with my financial details to continue billing me. I have screenshots of the failed login screen which shows the pokervt account information with timestamp and my credit card records showing the charge they placed this month for membership that my bank has requested be faxed to them.

Ultimately I would rate this site a 1/10. The customer service is terrible, the management is rude and clearly has no experience in customer support. I wish I had recorded the phone call because it was laugh out loud hilarious and would result in his immediate termination if heard by the executive branch of this company. The site suffers from technical glitches which will disrupt access to your account for prolonged periods of time. They will also continue billing their customers regardless of whether you are an active member or not.

1st in $11Rebuy on Stars + Met Kevin “BeL0WaB0Ve” by Masaki, August 19

What are the chances of meeting Kevin "BeL0WaB0Ve" Saul and winning the $11 Rebuy on the same night? I don't know 398924062360 to 1? Either way, thanks to xAlyssa for letting me meet Saul. She's friends with the guy through facebook and I'm friends with her through Pocketfives.com Hamilton and since she was sweating me she decided to give him a shout once we were down to 7 handed and I was chip leader after calling an all-in from a short stack with 77 vs A4o and than doubling up again through the chip leader with QQ vs 44.

When we were down to 7 players xAlyssa tells me on msn "wow ignoring Kevin Sauls raiil!" in all fairness I try to avoid all poker chat if possible and leave Poker Stars on the "info" button because I don't want to get too distracted. So she kindly asked Mr. Saul to sweat me, not that I wasn't under enough pressure as is. What felt like 10 Minutes later I win the tourny

Anyways, thanks for all the poker advice and the sweat Leroy "CanDo.ca" Wong, xAlyssa, and of course Kevin "BeL0WaB0Ve" Saul gave me.

donkey tested by Qyvs!, August 19

I obv am not writing my bachelor thesis on the impact of financial crisis on fannie mae... I did the donkey test cause I found it and was bored.

It tilted me so much when I saw the answers :

Like this question :

You're in the BB. Blinds are $1/$2 and everyone at the table has $50,000 in front of them. It is folded to the button, who raises to $7 but accidentally turns over his cards in the process.

You see that he holds:

http://www.donkeytest.com/images/card...ww.donkeytest.com/images/cards/Ac.gif

He knows that you saw his hole cards. He did not see your hand. What range of hands should you call with? Which hands should you re-raise with?

Fold all hands.
Call with any two cards, and re-raise with KK, QQ, and JJ.
Call with any pair or suited connector.
Call with any two cards, do not re-raise with anything.
Call with any two cards, and re-raise only with KK.
Call with any two cards, and re-raise only with AA.

The last answer is supposed to be correct which I find totally retarded. I'd just flat (alto it's not mentioned what SB did, obv. he would have called but I assume he folded cause he's not in the scenario .wtf???)

I'd just flat, probably C/R flop, put the guy AI at some point with AA and let him sweat and fold in the end being xxxxx BB deep.

Also this:

5/10 NL cash game. $1,000 stacks. 6 handed. You raise from UTG with:

http://www.donkeytest.com/images/card...ww.donkeytest.com/images/cards/Ts.gif

The big blind calls. He is a loose-aggressive player but has been check-folding to your flop bets during the last few rotations. Flop is:

http://www.donkeytest.com/images/card...ww.donkeytest.com/images/cards/Jc.gif

Is this a good flop for you? What should you do?

Good flop, bet
Bad flop, check
Good flop, check
Bad flop, bet

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.......... Well... it's not the best flop in the world, it isn't bad too. But it's rather bad than good. Now the thing is that the player is "loose-aggressive player" and for some particular reason he's c/folded to my flop bets (so is he LAG or not ?)

My logic is that he is gonna finally c/r... beacuse he's LAG, and beacuse the flop is good to do so. Nevertheless, betting is the correct move. AGAIN ?!?

So am I loose or tight ??? I guess I own everybody cause I just formed a style LAT - Loose aggressive tight ! The whole package !!! YAY

I refuse by ToTehEastSide, August 19

US Army Sergeant Travis Bishop, 26, a native of Louisville, Kentucky, was sentenced Friday to one year in prison after being convicted of going AWOL (Absent Without Leave) and disobeying lawful orders in connection with his refusal to be deployed to Afghanistan.

The sentencing of Sergeant Bishop follows closely on the heels of the conviction of Army Specialist Victor Agosto, 24, who was sentenced the previous week to 30 days in jail and demoted to private for his refusal to fight in Afghanistan on the grounds that the US occupation was immoral and unjust. Bishop and Agosto are both stationed in Fort Hood, Texas and share the same attorney, James Branum.

Bishop’s punishment proved to be more severe than Agosto’s. In addition to being sentenced to one year in prison and demoted from sergeant to private, Bishop will lose two-thirds of his pay for a full year and receive a bad conduct discharge from the military upon his release from prison. Branum has pledged to appeal the conviction.

Bishop’s doubts about his involvement in the military had been building for some time. In a statement released by Bishop in May, he describes returning home from Iraq, where he served for 14 months, to a hero’s welcome: “That was the first time I felt unsettled over what I had done overseas. My hand was shook, my back was patted, and every night my belly was burning, full of free alcohol. I was a veteran of a foreign war, hailed as a hero, and yet I felt ... unnerved, anxious.”

He went on to say, “I felt as if I had a big secret inside me that threatened to burst out of me at any moment, exposing what I really was to the rest of the world ... but I couldn’t figure out what the secret was. Not for a long, long time.”

Bishop describes no longer being able to understand why the US military was in Iraq. “Nothing sat right,” he said. The young sergeant turned toward religion in his crisis and began studying the Bible. He soon came to the conclusion that he could no longer place himself in a situation in which he could be ordered to kill another human being. When he was ordered to return to combat, this time to Afghanistan, Bishop decided not to go. He would file for Conscientious Objector status, going AWOL in order to do so.

Bishop maintains he was unaware of his right to apply for Conscientious Objector (CO) status until just days before his unit was set to deploy to Afghanistan. This assertion has been verified by Bishop’s commanding officer, Captain Christopher Hall, who testified that he had provided his soldiers with no information regarding CO status. Bishop, having discovered his rights too late to follow the standard CO procedure, made the decision to go AWOL for one week in order to prepare his application for CO status.

In a statement explaining his actions, Bishop said, “I left because I did not feel that I would have a sympathetic, understanding command structure to fully take my problems to, and also to give myself time to prepare for my CO application process, and the legal battle I’m currently fighting.” Following the completion of the application, Bishop turned himself in to authorities to answer for his absence from duty.

From the start, Bishop’s trial took on an anti-democratic character, with participants openly contemptuous toward the solider. One of the jurors fell asleep during the trial. Another repeatedly shook his head in disgust as Branum argued Bishop’s case.

Fort Hood chaplain Lt. Col. Ron Leininger testified against Bishop, asserting to the court that the sergeant’s religious convictions were not sincere enough to convince the chaplain to recommend him for CO status. The chaplain’s written report on Bishop contained errors, including calling Bishop by the wrong name. The chaplain told the court his interview with Bishop lasted for a period of 45 minutes. Challenging this claim, Bishop later told Truthout.org, “The Chaplain only spoke with me for 20 minutes, took two calls on his cell phone, and was texting the whole time.”

In his own defense, Bishop offered a statement to the court which reads, “[W]hat most Soldiers don’t realize is that CO is not only a regulation, it’s a right. To file for conscientious objector status is an individual right of every Soldier in the Army. This right ensures that Soldiers with the beliefs that I share have the opportunity to request to be discharged due to said beliefs. But, unlike other regulations in the military, this one remains unpublicized.”

Bishop’s statement discusses the military culture he struggles against. “Since day one of anyone’s career in the military,” says Bishop, “fierceness and bravado are pounded into every potential Soldier, and fear and doubt are viewed as weaknesses. This leaves Soldiers that feel as I feel in quite a predicament.

“Does a Soldier who feels as I feel tell someone in their Command? Or a peer? And risk persecution and ridicule? I have never heard the word ‘coward’ used more than when I say the words conscientious objector around a group of Soldiers.”

The rate of desertion in the US Army has risen 80 percent since the Iraq War began in 2003. Soldiers, many of them even younger than Bishop and Agosto, have been forced into bloody colonial wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, wars which have been associated with torture, rape, secret prison networks, the death of masses of Iraqis and an increasing number of Afghan civilians, and an assault on the most basic democratic rights. It is taking its toll, not only on the local populations, but on those rank and file soldiers who are engaged in its prosecution. Suicide rates among soldiers are at a record high. Large numbers of soldiers leave combat with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

It is difficult to gauge the level of resistance to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan within the military, but it is safe to say Bishop and Agosto are far from alone in their sentiments. The Pentagon has chosen to make an example of Bishop, whose only “crime” has been to refuse to take part in an illegal war of aggression. His punishment is meant as a warning to any military personnel considering opposition.

Last few months by rossro, August 19

Haven't updated this blog in forever. This summer has been a whirlwind of university, partying, golfing and of course a lot of poker. God knows how many hands I have played these last few months probably 150k+. Decided that I should start playing HU in june and it has been going pretty well, managed to make like 10k CAD between june and the first couple weeks of july (Mix of 50nl/100nl 6max and 100nl HU). Had to hunker down for a few projects and finals towards the end of july (withdrew all my $$$ and banned myself to help me :D) and then proceeded to donk off somewhere around 2k @ 100nlhu at the beginning of august. Finally got my act together and redeposited last monday and have been on a hell of a run since then, I actually ran above expectation!! W

I start a full time co-op job on the 31st so that will definately cut into my poker time. Hurray for $18/hr CAD, but at least its tilt free money and will help me get some engineering experience. Also looking at finding a HU coach to help me work up through 1/2 & 2/4 so if any1 has suggestions or is a coach themselves feel free to let me know. Been looking at some of the coaches on DC like jsnipes or colmsum.

Here are the stats since last monday :D. Obv mostly bum hunting ....

Bob the Rebuilder: NL25 by LemOn[5thF], August 18

My Goals
NL25 done, it took me a week to double my roll at this limit. (Running hot is good :o)

I must say than I dodged my rule of cashing to 20 BI at a limit (If I lose 2BI AND I break my non-multitabling rule) by always first pwning a couple BI at 4 tables and then multi table once I get tired (4tabling is WAY harder then 9 tabling for me btw).

And As I set the stop loss rule for a day I managed to cheat myself this way. My spews obviously came during multitabling again, and I lost about 5 stacks where I shouldn't really. My red line also suffered by doing this, and I think its easily sustainable to have it just below 0 at NL25 and push standard winrate to 6bb/100 levels with decent tables.

A Hand
I will post interesting hands from NL25 later, just one from today
This is about the biggest rape I have been exposed to to date. 36/6/1 Turbonit Villain (with 10% WTSD and 40% Fold turn,) called, after I squeezed wide UTG/high fold to 3bet fold opener and him (who also folded to majority of 3bets)

I believe he folded every single time in situations like this before, even with much better hands.
I am always reluctant to really believe these people pay attention to table image, but this time I was wrong (I was fairly aggressive at the table). Dunno what it was, probably my timing tells and non call inviting bet sizing, but this dude completely raped me.

He had what I thought he might have, and I was 100% sure he would fold.

Pure pwnage, and I typed 'owned' to the chat myself, I was amazed somebody at micros could make such a read and actually alter their game.

My Game
http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/2dd86.KEKE.png

As I try to play completely reactive style, the weekend brought my VPIP and PFR way below my 'standard'. Calling Stations all over the place is not a place for LAG, although today and yesterday I finally got to some nitty tables and could employ full blown 34/30 with 20% 3bets.

Also interesting is how my stats don't get too much tighter in early position, the reason was complete lack of light 3bettors - I could open AXs utg profitably all the time and sometimes I was opening even hands like JTo as I had tables with 4 nits and one fish (regs at NL25 don't adjust and just let you exploit the fish forever :o)

Also what I can see there is that I don't 3bet on the Button and CO enough, and thats something I have to work at before I get to NL100.

-I almost perfected my 3betting from the blinds against exploitable opponents, and I learned a new move -> 3bet into check/fold with junk against nits with superhigh fold to 3bet, on boards that are not super great for 3betting.
I always was cbetting without really thinking about their range, which is rarely folding non scary flops and even turns.

-I found a good spot to 4bet bluff only three times, and 3barrel bluff only twice.

-I also learned that it doesn't matter that you are getting 6:1, the fish simply don't minraise with Junk

-I tilted, but as I was only playing 4 tables when running bad those were microtilts and I quickly pulled myself together ( I lost a couple 89% Equity spots and got once pwned with 200bb stack with 80% Equity shove on flop (which instantly pwned my stop loss and I had to quit fo the day -,-))

Conclusion

I had fun at NL10 and NL25. It made me remember that no matter what limit you play, it is still the same game and every person is different and can't be completely generalised.
Sure, you can play a standard game aimed towards the limit standard players only using stats, but this will never let you get to the core of every individuals mistakes and won't let you completely own the game.

I wish I could remember this every single time I start playing more then 4 tables and stop paying attention to every single pot, and avoid the evil of multitabling.

I am back at my regular limit, and I have learned a good few things in the process (I watched entire micro stakes grinder series while 3 tabling ). Losing over 70% of my BR was painful, but I believe that because of the things I learned it might actually be +EV In the long run.

P.S. If you ask why I only made $500 when it takes $600 to go from 24BI at NL25 to 24BI at NL50, my answer is simple: I cheated by donking $100 in Supernova Freeroll.

But don't judge me you punk, as I know you cowardly add your rake back to your BR while I buy Phil Hellmuth books and other junk for it.
