August Review by WilsWils, September 01

Blegh, August was lame. Quick recap.

Started off the month strong grinding hard and doing well. I had just finished coaching so my confidence was at an all time high and i was having np exploiting the regs who play bad post flop, and the regs who play bad preflop. Then i hit a few huge downswing days, one -5bi, one 6-7BI and one -9~ BI or so. It was just tired/moody + run bad + play bad.

Then i grinded through that (albeit grudgingly) and then hit another snag for a small 5k hand sample where i didnt quite hold in all in pots that well and ran about 7 BI below ev. Again, this was just standard variance and i grinded through that as well.

I played nowhere near the amount of volume i should have this summer, i had made a plan to myself to basically be semi-proish for 4 months but i just never committed the time to play more than 2-4 hrs a day. It was also compounded by the fact i'd rather go out and hang with friends, or i'd just be like eh whatever and not play poker if i didn't feel like it.

My school schedule is pretty chill for september, but i'm aiming for straight A's this year so poker time will have to be reschedule. I can definetly fit in poker + school + life, as long as i balance..this is what i've learned over the past 4 months. You must must must MUST make sure you, yourself are in good mental and physical shape. Once you are, everything else just falls into place because you're not sleeping in, feeling groggy, then having to jam in a poker session when you feel like shit.

Anyway..

August:

Profits: +1700 @ nl100 over 60k hands
+256 T$ after owning some FTP pro in a sng thing. Her name was S.gremnakova or whatever and she was a big fan of overbet shoving preflop everytime she had AJ+. Eventually i minraised her button @ 100/200 (i think), and after folding 5 times in a row she finally defended. flop 452 rainbow, she checks, i bet 1/2 pot, she shoves, i snap with AA she has Q8o? lolol
+450 @ nl200 over 1k hands

Rakeback: +940

Total: +3346 for the month.

Really disappointed because i could have made far more =[ , honestly there was no reason for me to not have a minimum +30 BI month, what with coaching and all...i was my own worst enemy really, and didnt put in the hands because i slept in so much + ran bad and didnt want to play. I need to focus less on results and just focus on getting better - the money will come naturally.

OH WELL, you live and you learn.

Whiffed my August goals, but going to try again in sept.

Sept Goals:

40k hands @ nl100, 20k hands @ nl200 whatever i make, i make
Exercise 3x a week
Help coach microstakes players to improve myself (which, if anyone is interested in i'd be glad to sweat you a session or 2)
get off to a really strong start in school. aiming for A's

FIGURE OUT WHY PTR is so broken and says i havent made any money at nl100? :o loloool

THIS JUST IN... by TheTank, September 01

i am tearing it up here in NW oklahoma. I'm throwing really hard, probably the hardest i've thrown since 2006, my arm feels great, the coaches are impressed, i have a new-found desire to work my tail off even more than i have been, and i want to reach my goal of getting one of the three week-end starters on the pitching staff. (conference games, which are the only things that mean something are played on the weekends). I would happily accept a closer roll as well, (to me a closer has the same importance as a starter, however their importance in jam-packed into 1 inning). So everything is going great. Classes are easy, and i was prepared for a hella hard time b/c my classes are like this... Physics, Anatomy, Statistics, Psychology.
I'm also tearing it up in plo, which is good. No graphs b/c i play on cake

got killed in match vs reg by piratematerial, September 01

i played a long match against this guy and i got absolutely killed. maybe i lost something like 8 buyins. usually i quit people 3 down but a friend was sweating me and i didnt feel like i played
bad or was tilting at all and i thought he was pretty bad. he played about 60% of hands IP and OOP and was pretty passive, only at the river his agression picked up but i honestly think this was
due to the fact he was just hitting everything so fucking hard. if he ever made moves they were pretty rare i think. and the times i suspected him off this i couldnt do anything about it. i just went
over the biggest hands to see what went wrong. in some spots i look a little iffy. plz let me know
if you have any comments!

other then this match i've been doing fairly good. -8bi to one guy hurts though. surely it;s not good
for my bb/100.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/738071

i have been 4betting him with some frequency and i think there is absolutely nothing i can do here then bet for value. so seems fine.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/738073
we were both 3betting between 15-20% depending on the point of the match. he opens about 68%. he called about 50% of 3bets. usually he just called when he hit in 3bet pots. and he also floated a bit as he folded to some 2nd barrels. or maybe then he just made a weak connection.
this was his 1st raise in 3bet pots i think and i put him on quite some air, draws. but thats
not what he ended up having unfortunately.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/738075
a bluff gone wrong. this was relatively early in the match. at this point he 3betted 15% and from the possible range. the minraise i saw him use before on a drawy board and the board in general i was really confident i could get him off is pair + gutshot, draw and optimistically i even expected him to consider folding something like QJ though i knew that hand was going to call me down
usually. but i thought there were enough hands i could get to fold. i overbet the river because i expected him to fold an Arag, maybe QJ and any second pair+gutshot to this bigger size and
thought he would maybe make some odd calls when i just tried to fold out draws. also i think it's
more consistent with me trying to sell a 2pair or straight here. but maybe i would have raised the
flop with those? do you like this bluff?

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/738076
4betted him the hand right before this one. i was down a TON to him and i thought it was +EV to
get this in.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/738077
i thought his check on the flop meant showdown value but no TP. guess he trapped me really nicely.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/738078
maybe this is a bad call? he shoved the flop, i put a lot of draws in his range. i have the nutFD and
against 78 type of hands i have a K highcard. i didnt know Arag was in his 3bet call range. really cant believe this didnt help me at any point but instead cost me a buyin. because i think calling my
3bets with Arag is really -EV.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/738087
he was giving quite some resistance in 3bet pots and i suspected i should give him some more heat because he called my 3bets a little too wide imo. since i made it consist of mostly a value
range with maybe 20% bluffs. so i was setting this up to shove the river but the river was so
bad i gave up.

AugusT.T by spets1, September 01

So anyhow august wasnt that good. But i think i have discovered the biggest leaks in my game. So From now on i can avoid that. The leaks are me just playing very dumb as can be seen in my previous blogs "Why i dont win money in poker". From there you can see that im a huuuge spewmonster. Not sure if it comes from tilting etc. But anyhow heres the pics.

http://spets1.googlepages.com/09-08.jpg

Last day fucked me up hard. I was up 800 bucks but in like few few hands i was coolered and set up and maybe tilted a little to loose 400 bucks very very quick. SO that sucked.

Anyhow im gonna try to do well this month and take some shots at NL200 if I get a chance.

Cheers every1 and gl at the tables

hdtv recommendations? by rockman255, August 31

anyone got any advice on what kind of features you need on an hdtv to play uhh, ps3? im really really confused cuz i see that you can get like freaking 36 inch ones for 3k + and yet u can find 50+ inch for like 2k, so i guess the features are really, really important?

is 120hz necessary for ps3? what kind of contrast ratio is good? aaaaaahhhhhhhhhh

Disheartening.. by ConquistadoR, August 31

O8 so far is really disheartening.

I cant track my results appropriately but so far I'm definately down overall at this game and I'm playing 002/005 or 005/010. Really disheartening since those limits are supposed to be a joke.

I just can't seem to hit a shit and im trying to play very tight. Well gotta read and study a lot more, Im still a complete newbie but in Hold Em I could at least win on the micro stakes even when I was a newbie and here it just seems impossible to win.

August Results :
Cashgame : -127$
Tourneys : +486$
SNG : + 13$

So overall I made around 370$ lol. Definately bad but I am still happy because despite of my horrible 30 BI downswing on NL25 I still managed to make money after all.
Lets hope I can do it better next month.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/2b42a.august09.jpg
all nl100, playing this limit until i start running better.

like ev line shows still running like a cunt, third month but whatever it will turn. i rly lacked motivation this month because of this downswing, and the sunny weather over here sure didn't help that either : - ) all i know is $66.45 over 23k hands isn't my real winrate

hope i'll put in some more hands next month, but university is starting in 1 week and this year im gonna put a lot of hours into that.

August Graphs by NotSorry, August 31

Top one is NL5-NL10 on Stars

Bottom one is NL20 on UB
http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p397/Misclicked/NSAugust.png
Got very little hands in this month due to trying to get issues settled with rakeback and really not wanting to play without it, I'm gonna push for 100k hands in September.

Goals for September by ViRii, August 31

Alright, so I'm not new to hold em. I've been losing and winning off and on for about the past year. Mostly just playing for fun with friends, but I'm setting some goals for myself and want to start getting serious about it.

First things first,

Bankroll: $40
Limits: $0.01/$0.02
Hand Goal: 22,500 (750 Hands Per day)
BB/100 Goal: 10
Total $/100: $0.20
Total $ for September: $45

In addition, Full Tilt Poker is running a "Take 2" $50 promotion, which I plan on taking advantage of.

In order to qualify I need to play 2 ring games (which Ill be playing 4) at the same time and earn 1 FTP for two tables. If I do this for 25 days in September, they'll give $50 to me. Which, combined with my $/100 goal, would put me at $135 and would allow me to play at NL5 for October.

August results by blackjacki2, August 31

online

pokerstars - +1000
FTP - +200

live

poker room - -148
home game - +214

total - ~1250

Ran pretty darn good on Pokerstars. Up 20 buyins in 5,000~ hands. However with my lack of volume I barely made silverstar for the second month in a row...
