Loco/Newblish by Fayth, July 25

Some people seem to have really overreacted by bashing loco over what he wrote, I asked him to make that blogpost so it might maybe serve as a wake up call to newblish and at the same time done in a funny manner...

It's pretty obvious he has never ran really bad, just your standard losing sessions and it was getting very very irritating to see him talk about how he was the unluckiest player in the world and bla bla bla

so yeah there wasn't really any genuine hate on our part toward him, just annoyance and we thought the "I'm calling 100% of his 3bets now" followed by "doing nothing wrong" was pretty fuckin hilarious and worth a post lol

I might come off as a douche but some people really need a serious reality check as to what winrate you can really substain, when you're winning at 9ptbb/100 over 200k hands you're not running extremely bad, you're running just fine, just deal with the swings along the way... you need to not give a shit over wins/losses as long as you're REALLY doing nothing wrong.

anyway just felt Loco didn't deserve all that bashing as I'm quite responsible for this

Bah cashed out again by NewbSaibot, July 25

I had $25 floating in my stars account for some reason, cant even remember from where. Been playing with it all weekend. Couldnt beat the rake though, rather buy myself lunch all week instead, so cashed it out as soon as I hit the minimum requirements again. Done with micro stakes (for the 50th time). Back to saving up for live play.

On second thought I might take a shot at cake poker. I actually thought cake was strictly some euro site until recently lol. I really like the idea of hudless play. I figure since it'll be my first deposit their profiling system will put me in runhot mode so maybe I can run up a small roll before they assign me the "good for rake" roll by doomswitching me just enough to keep me reloading without scaring me off... like every other site.

getting addicted to plo again...:( by whamm!, July 25

starting to play it more now again. but i do think im kinda getting better at hand reading here and preflop hand selection. ill try this game this month and if resutls suck well theres always 50nl fR, which is a pain in the ass to play but is easy enough to make some money out of
ill post my 50nl plo graph after im done with it. im just kinda burnt out of playing tons of tables FR vs people who are hard to play against not because theyre good, but just 3bet mindlessly and dont really have a clue what to do (still is hard to play against imo) and plo is the ONLY game i play 4 to 5 tables at a time. tried 15 tabling it and it was a disaster lol, this actually might help my transition to 6max in terms of being content with playing few tables and my extreme sensitivity to variance . wish me luck (again) peace

Life is Loco... by Bejamin1, July 25

I am by no means a brilliant poker player. I have a decent grasp of the game but I'm extremely lazy about applying myself. I've won a small amount over 5-6 years of playing which allowed me to finish University with no debt. Not particularly impressive by any means. I have average results and have always played low limits on an infrequent basis. I don't think I've even logged 100k hands in the last 12 months. I'm extremely casual when it comes to poker. That being said I do consider myself a good friend. A good enough friend to stand up for his friends when others unfairly belittle them for no reason.

Loco you have dedicated a blog to a personal attack on a friend of mine. You attack both his intelligence and his understanding of reality. However you don't know him personally. You've never done any sort of detailed analysis on his hand history database. So what evidence do you have to support your point of view? As far as I can tell your so-called evidence is that he's a winning player who complains regularly.

Lets address some major issues I have with your claim:

1. Your blog clearly infers that a winning player cannot be running bad. It clearly offends you that a winning player could ever have anything to complain about. I define running bad as when a player has won considerably less than they were supposed to over a long period of time.

EX) Player who should have won 40k but actually lost 20k at 1/2 over 150k hands. That player is running very bad.
EX) Player who should have won 100k but actually won just 40k at 1/2 over 150k hands. That player is running equally bad.

2. You post the worst possible quotes you can find. Quotes that were clearly stated in anger and frustration. Quotes like this are unlikely to be highly correlated with what someone would say when they're calm and relaxed. People tend to say things they don't really mean when they're angry.

3. Lots of people make angry posts on hand histories or blogs. They do so for cathartic release. Think of the scene in "I love you, Man" where the guys are under the bridge and yelling at the sky. Sometimes you've just gotta let that rage out. It's better to let it out on hand history comments than on the felt.

4. You have no access to Newblish's database. You have not done any sort of detailed analysis of his all-in luck. I doubt you've ever even watched him play a session. You have basically zero information about whether he runs good or bad. The fact that he is a winning player is irrelevant, both winning & losing players run bad.

5. I've personally watched Newblish play many sessions both online and in person. He has run horrifically bad for long periods of time and I have no doubt analysis of his database would show this.

Personally I think the only thing your blog does is make you look like a spiteful asshole Loco. Someone who is offended by a winning player saying they run bad. Get a life dude.

Euro Trip 2010 (pics) by Siro, July 25

Recently returned from my first overseas trip, decided to tag along on a tour that my friend had already booked. I may aswell post about it, because I like looking back through my old blog posts

Paris to Venice
http://www.intrepidtravel.com/images/maps/3964_arw_2010.jpg

Paris, only had one full day to explore.. Obligatory Eiffel Tower shot (walked up).
+ Show Spoiler +

Bruges fucking owned, sick small city. 400 different beers to choose from, canal rides.. and a fries museum..? wat
+ Show Spoiler +

Amsterdam = sin city. Stayed backing onto the red light district. Awesome actual city too, seems very livable to me. Looking 17 ways to cross the road so I don't get hit by bikes takes getting used to... more canals.
+ Show Spoiler +

Was in Berlin to watch Germany crush England in the WC, was very awesome watching whole street/bars erupt when they scored/won. Real nightlife starts verry late.

Krakow = Trip to Auschwitz (wasn't nearly as bad as I expected) and a drink called Krupnik - which I am trying to find a way to import! Most attractive women of all the cities imo.

Prague = amazing castle. City looks great at night, was at a huge beer garden by the river overlooking the city (if people have been to Prague they probably know which one I'm talking about)
+ Show Spoiler +

Cesky Krumlov (also Czech Repulic) was the NUTS. Slow raft down the river on 35+ degree day, drinking beers all the way down.. that and a bear moat, cool.
+ Show Spoiler +

Vienna was a beautiful city, very livable aswell. Had the option of going to a quality concert (Opera season was closed however) or to the amusement park.. my cultured self went on some crazy high chair ride -.- Also had the most ridiculous ride I've seen called the Ecstasy. Bought a nice wallet from Ballys (how do you pronounce this brand zzz) Standard climb high tower shot.
+ Show Spoiler +

Budapest, first impressions sucked. Stayed in a dodgy part of town, inner city is quite nice.. didn't even make it to Buda side =/ Went to thermal baths.

Bled (Slovenia) was awesome, just a huge lake and water activities. Went white water rafting. Whole place is a postcard.
+ Show Spoiler +

Finish in Venice, what a shit place to navigate around. Stayed at the Hilton (overrated) to finish. Good women, good food/wine, good views.
Gondola Ride, and yes a pic with me in it - and some of the people I was traveling with
+ Show Spoiler +

Whole trip was wild, staying at most 3 days (Berlin), usually two. Caught public transport everywhere including an overnight train hah. Weather was fantastic after the first few days, always 30+. Next travels will feel like a breeze I'm sure.

Also bought myself one of + Show Spoiler + [these]

in January after a nearly 25k month at 1/2.

Back to the grind now, need to get some more money online and start really working towards owning a home.
Peace.

Played live! by LemOn[5thF], July 25

In order to revive my motivation for poker, I decided it might be worthwhile if I actually try to play the real thing.
The only time I played poker in my life was when I was on a floor ball age 13 camp where we played 5card draw with pennies.

So last night I took £33, and headed for a casino (which is about 7 minute walk from my flat) to go for a freezeout tourney.
Circus casino Edinburgh
It really surprised me how the casino felt like any other entertainment facility, with standard pub price beer and food and large projector with football on. The card room has about 20 poker tables there, and had an internal league tourney, a stud tourney and a £1/£2 game running. The only bad thing was that air conditioning was broken, so it was like 30 Celsius in there - good for me losing weight at least, and free drinks all night were served to compensate.
Tourney
The tourney itself was a 'Second Chance' which I didn't know what the fuck that meant. Like an hour into the tourney I realized that the one yellow 50 chip I have is exchangeable for 3,500 chips, and if you keep the chip you can transfer even after you busto.
I had the standard problems at the beginning, always asking people for whats in the pot and how much to raise. Later in the tourney when I doubled up I had a ridiculous number of chips and it took me an orbit or two to actually know what the hell is in my stack, and I had this problem throughout the day.
I was also confused when seats were changed to other tables, but the biggest challenge was dealing.
Thats right, they do not assign dealers for MTTs, and who gets the highest card has to deal.

First time I was on I just gave up, but the second time (18 people to go or so) I was forced to do it. This was the biggest fail, where I had to burn some 7 cards which I turned face up and my shuffling was by no means a proper shuffle, and I had to ask how many I burn at every street (its one lol ;D). Still a good experience, and it clearly just takes practice.

My performance
I was playing standard bronze pokerstrategy level chart poker. I probably made a mistake at the beginning when an old (and pretty annoying) regular raised pre and cbet almost AI on flop for 40bbs, and I called him off with jacks. (AA)

Since then it was push or fold for me almost all 6 hours, I played like 2 hands postflop the whole tourney lols.
Probably the funniest moment was when it was 16 to go and I had A5s in the sb with 13bbs - very very standard push. But as the regs are total retards and they love to talk I did something I learned to do - pretend to think heavily for 1-2 minutes while waiting for something retarded from the bb.
And it came - dude who previously folded to my 5bb Small blind shove and showed me an ace told me to fold in a very interested manner, a thing he has never done before. I giggled inside, turbofolded, and the mofo showed KK :D

The number of obvious reads that can be seen even with my 0 experienced eyes was ridiculous, the guys are always chatting about what they have, they love to show cards for some reason, and one dude was particularly funny when he all of a sudden check raised for the first time and became *really* interested in the darts on projector behind us and his drink when he always kept staring at the table in the previous pots.
He had a nut straight ofc -.-
Technically the people are retarded too, it seems to be standard to limp fold utg with 4BBs left with almost everyone, and to fold to 1k chip into 10k pot on river where there were no draws on turn.

I ended up pretty card dead in the end and I was coolered by a 12bb dude with AQ vs AK bu v sb to keep me on the shortstack till the end. I shoved 44 for my last 5big blinds/some 60k chips to end up 7th in a field of 60-70 and $100 cash.

Not bad for a first actual play of poker in my life.

Playing life
I got a new motivation for online poker, and pretty strong one. Life poker is so much fun, and the £1/£2 game running there is super juicy. 3-4 bad regs (the very same that limp fold with 4bbs left in a tourney), old geezers, and an old lady who burned some £800 that night while I was there.

This is awesome and I want to play in that, but first I need to build roll online to afford it. I think the people are so bad I can play with some 12BI comfortably - my motivation is now to make that online as I will never use my own money to play poker.

Although I will probably get a part time job in September (I need some sales or customer contact experience, as I would like to get into a Management Graduate scheme with one of the major banks after I graduate - I work in Finance dept right now with internal customers only), I can totally see myself being a pro with combination of life and online poker - it really breaks the stereotype and life poker forces me to think about shit before I act.
The obvious negative of live play will make it close to impossible to make as a student aiming at a 1:1 degree (70%+ average mark from all subjects) - the tourney took 6 hours where I busted in 7th place, and would take 7.5hrs for the winner, and the best cash games run between 10pm-3am in the local casino it seems.
I will probably have to wait until my planned gap year when I finish my degree to do proper 24 hour grinding sessions, but it sure seems like lots of fun -.-

Thanks for reading,

help plz by DaTruf, July 24

I'm not sure why, but I've noticed that every now and then, my notes on other players (pokerstars) disappear. It doesn't happen with all players, but randomly happens with some.

Is there a reason for this?

I know that when I used to use PT3, when pokerstars would crash, any notes that I had taken during that session would disappear. But that hasn't happened in months, so I was wondering why it would be happening. Thanks for any explanations

shittiest time of my life ever by domyouji, July 24

so since I'm behind on sne I calculated and it comes out to be about 4.4k vpp per day, which is around 10k give or take a few hundred hands per day for everyday the rest of this year. After doing it for 4 days straight and running below ev it just feels tiresome and shitty. Ever since the run bad couple of months ago I have never completely recovered and now my 200 winrate has become measly 0.34, which is sad and boarderline fpp pro. life is just suck right now as all those other regs keep getting preflop coolers and then I lose to them on suckouts. Too much whine in this blog but this is gonna be 1 shithole year for the rest of this year.

also heres graph for S&M enjoyments

I am going to lose my Super Nova status. by Amygdala, July 24

How the hell did things get this far? Well last month. I waited until the last moment to get enough points to keep my Super Nova status. I really had to work my ass off and this actually made me completely sick off poker. In the beginning of July I just figured to take a couple of days off after which I planned to put my grinding hat back on but I just didn’t feel like it. The Netherlands reached the final of the world cup of football/soccer. Which meant that I had to party my ass of during the last matches.

http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/6738/dscn0656v.jpg

Even though we lost the final, the home coming of the team was completely crazy. It looked like we had won the world cup. The team got a parade through the Amsterdam canals with a salutation at the Museumplein. All that drinking and partying actually made me more tired and I simply didn’t feel like playing poker.

http://img836.imageshack.us/img836/8204/dscn0742.jpg

Instead I read a lot about marketing and social media. Learned how to use twitter to get hits for the website and I implemented a couple of new features in the site. Most of the time everything went wrong in the beginning. That was very frustrating and we all know that it is a bad idea to play when you are frustrated. So that didn’t help either.

At July 20th I felt it was time to start playing again. I had a good feeling and was ready to kick some ass. Things turned out differently

http://www.pokerstudygroups.com/file/...7/Admin-i-hate-poker-50-nl-fr_500.jpg

After this session I immediately was sick of poker again. In mylast blogs I told you guys how short my bankroll is. The pressure this kind of crap gives me is really getting to me. I know I sound like a wuz right now, but the last 6 months really has been hard for me. It just sucks.

I took another couple of days off and worked on the site again. And today I felt like playing again. I am still sick of Full Ring so I decided to play some 6 max and I actually ran very hot. It was raining sets. I actually flopped a set 35% of the times I saw a flop with a pocket pair. On average you only flop a set 11,5% of the time you see a flop with a pocket pair.

http://www.pokerstudygroups.com/file/pic/photo/2010/07/Admin-nice_500.jpg

It felt so good that I decided to write something again. So although all my plans for July are a complete failure and I am going to lose my Super Nova status, I actually feel positive again.

If I really wanted to I could still earn the 7500k vpp’s needed to keep the VIP status, but I don’t think it is wise to do so. Last month it really took too much out of me and I want to keep positive feeling. Besides that, at the beginning of the month I already had 92500 VPP’s so I will get my Super Nova status back in no time anyway.
