"You Are Only Young Once" - Poker book written by a nit
I've finally surpassed what I'll consider the biggest downswing in my poker career since being a winning player (at nl25 lolz), and tbh it didnt hit me at all. I kept grinding. Lost money a week, more grind. I knew it. I knew eventually winnings would come again, and I could take a shot at nl50.
At some point before, I lost my poker passion. But during the downswing... It just felt different; it felt like when I first started, and I knew I had to keep my shit together and aim to move up.
Then I became obssesed with poker. Wanted to find more spots to value bet thinly, to give opponenets rooms to bluff, to get FUCKING better at this game and GTFO of nl25. This is how I feel now. I just want to learn moar poker.
Srsly, from my last 100k hands at nl25 all I can tell is that poker is such a ridicously swingy game that short term results should not phase me at all. I mean, i've always known it, but i'm finally starting to FEEL IT and not get affected by results. Being overrolled definetately helped.
Then runned hotter than sun at my 2bi shot at nl50, so I just want to run decent enough to put 100k hands here and say i'm a winner at nl50 and move up. Sample is ridicously low, but winnings allow me to become a "nl50 reg".
rubicon n black shizzlezby concrescence, August 29
Damn. Everytime i watch an episode of Rubicon i just want to yell out and tell people how awesome it is. If you like mystery/conspiracy type stuff you'll love this. I wasn't particularly into this type of stuff when i first started watching but the show is electric. I'd say its pretty similar to lost but without the neverending string of carrots leading to nowhere. SO go check it out if you haven't already. I hope AMC keep cranking out shows like this & MadMen.
Trailer in spoiler although be warned.. watch as little of the trailer (and all trailers) as you can otherwise you might spoil the tv show/movie/whatever. It's much more entertaining imo to be in the dark and leaving things open to your imagination rather than viewing it as a puzzle with predetermined pieces/snippets of info even if they're misleading. + Show Spoiler +
Also, playing with a custom layout for LP on and off for a while. Note that this is a fully working version and works with all pages of the site and changes with the content but just needs a little polishing off to make it look good. Check it out and let me know if you like it and would use it or any critiques/suggestions you can think of that would make it better:
3387 usd. its growing everday but i hate the fucking variance on this site. play flawlessly go up 4bi and get hit by 2 kk vs aa, then 2 aa vs kk all in 10mins yuck. need absolute or ub, or any other fuckn site except jokerstars lol
thinking of going mountain biking for exercise (just cross country tho, no downhill bs for me haha) after watching this vid, i got a bunch of friends IRL who do both. but a decent bike costs like 2.5kusd, maybe if i do a good 2 months in poker ill go for it
I'm kind of cheating and counting Rakeback + Tourney + Staking $ and all considered, I had a breakthrough record month of $30k.
After only putting in just over 10k hands last month (I was traveling though), I made huge strides in my personal motivation and production. I played about 100 hours this month, and probably spent 40-50 hours just reading books and blogs and articles about entrepreneurial startup. This is for sure the field I'm going into after poker and I'm really passionate about being able to just start something from the bottom up and test myself in a field like that. If anyone is similar, feel free to pm me your contact info I'd love to talk to as many people as I can about the subject.
Poker-wise, I made some breakthroughs as well. First of all, multi-siting is the nuts and is the easiest way to psychologically diversify in poker. I ran terrible at Stars the entire month (which explains the -5k over 16k hands in the graph) and was convinced it was Stars punishing me for releasing that 4k bonus lol. I ran well at iPoker and FTP, and do okay on ongame. I ensure that I always have good 6max tables running and lots of heads up action regardless.
I might keep playing but I think this is a good time to take a break on the month. It's my birthday today and although I don't really care for my bday, I've been really stressed out lately from overworking myself. It's funny because I just read Tim Ferriss's 4-hour Workweek which teaches you how to mitigate stress while increasing productivity, but that led me to increase productivity SO much that it led to me being even more stressed out.
I've also started a heads up staking/semi-coaching farm to try to and automate some portion of my income. I think it's a very lucrative deal on both ends.
I'm close to about 100k in earnings this year but I don't want to graph it until I actually have 100k in pure cash profit without counting rakeback and tourneys. Hopefully I can make it because I've always wanted to have a $100k graph within the same calendar year (I always make a new database after each year).
That's about it for now. I started a twitter to update poker and business related stuff, if you're interested check out www.twitter.com/kevinyko I promise I won't tweet about lame stuff throughout my daily life.
Laptop screen just fucked up and went blurry for a few minutes. I was 5tbling HU at the moment, and I managed to slide the tables in a way that I could see the board and the bets, but my holecards I could only tell if they were a number or a paint, wtf sick tilt!!
Software engineering ???by Into Infinity, August 29
i'm going to college with a computer engineer major, but i hate physics with a passion. i was looking at assist.org and it says i only need three semesters worth, compared to the 6 or so in computer engineer.
i want to work with computers, but i hate physics. but i was wondering if anyone knows if software engineering is a good thing to major in? would i have a good future if i got a degree in it? etc etc. or should i just stick with computer engineering even though i hate physics?
WSOP Pics/TR, 150k VPP this month, SNE Prop Betby Joeingram1, August 29
SNE
Whats up guys, I finally booked some action on me achieving SNE this year. I bet 5k to win 7.5k with BraveJayHawk from 2p2 forums, have known him for awhile and he decided at the beginning of the month when I was at 290k VPP that I couldn't get it done. I also booked a 1k bet with Hodge05 on who can get to SNE first. He has a prop where he can only play nl100/200 to achieve SNE this year so we figured the 50k VPP lead he has over me was fair since I am playing anything/everything.
Just finished up an 8k VPP session where I finally made it to the positive for the month at PLO
At my low point on the graph I decided it would be good to actually try to learn the game. I read 3 PLO books, read alot of stuff on 2p2, and watched a few videos. Combined with decided to not 24 table, I started to win more. I was overplaying alot of my hands before, going nuts with AAxx with the xx usually not working well together/unsooted, 3betting way to fucking much, and a bunch of other issues. I feel like I am getting alot better every session and hopefully can continue to profit while I put in a high volume.
Game 7 Lakers vs Celtics
I don't think I ever posted about this but I went to Game 7 of the NBA finals. Me, the gf, SNE prop bettor Ballcup, his gf decided to go up to LA from San Diego kinda last minute and get tix for the game. We ended up paying around 4.4kish for tix that were in the very last round/center court of the stadium. The line for the game was Lakers -6 iirc so naturally we bet the amount we paid for the tickets on the game. We were sweating it pretty hard but luckily we were victorious and essentially freerolled Game 7. So glorious lol, pics from that are at the bottom of the blog
WSOP
This is long overdue but have just been doing everything else but blogging/vegas ended really horribly so I didn't really want to think about it. I went out there for 7 days around june 18-25. I loaded up my M3 and drove out there with my girlfriend Rachael and we stayed with my friend BW07507 at Pallazzo. It was alot of fun! While I was there I checked out a few poker houses that people had out there, I was kinda sad that I didn't get a house out there to stay and hang out and I am planning on 100 percent doing it next year.
Some highlights of the trip include going to my fave vegas restaurant Cut at Pallazzo like 3-4 times. I faded the CCRs for the trip everytime except once which left me with a 700 dollar bill. My birthday was on June 24th and we went out to dinner at Craft Steakhouse at MGM and then went to the country place to hang out with like 25 poker players for the night(forget the name of the place).
Also I was able to play in a little private game at the Hard Rock, my friend Notontilt09 invited me over there to play some 1/2 NL/PLO with him, Nanonoko, LttlBstrd (WSOP event 6 winner), Ryan from pokernewsstrategy.com, and Nascar_1949/kangis. Was a really fun time and I think I profited from the game, with help from me one outting Nano on the river after getting it all in on the turn in PLO. Obv we ran it twice so I only chopped the pot lol, Nano runs so fucking good vs me online and appearntly offline as well. MBN
I will just post all the pics now so you can see all the online poker guys by there faces. I think most of the guys are mainly PokerStars people so sorry FTP players lol
Me, GF at Lakers/celtics Game 7, I am sunburnt as hell here
Oops. that didn't work. only played 6 out of the last 11 days, 42.5 hours total and a net loss of 2.5k. Not quite what I wanted but I'm gonna get back at it the next week before I leave and before WCOOP starts. GL kids.
750k tourney, sat in question?by NiagaraPoker, August 28
Ok so I just satellited into the 750k guar. on Full Tilt for tomorrow night.
Was just wondering is there a way to sell the tourney ticket like on Stars?
I just started playing on Full Tilt this month, and I guess I just assumed this was an option like on Stars. but I don't see it, anyone?
Alright so many of you know I have had quite a rocky history when it comes to poker. I have had many ups and far more downs. About 1.5 years ago I kind of emerged from the rock bottom state. At that point in time I started reading tons doing meditation etc. After about 6 months I finally thought I was strong enough to give poker another try. I quickly discovered that the game had changed majorly. I no longer felt like I was the best player at 50 and 100nl like I used to. I ran really bad but never went broke. In fact I slowly grinded up a decent bankroll. Then I lost a 2k bodyfat loss bet with a friend and then my car died on me so I had to buy a new one. I was left with about 450$ online and felt so sick and depressed about it that I couldn't even log on to grind. Around this time I just started playing Starcraft 2 hardcore to get my mind off poker and eventually got to 10th in diamond.
I finally decided I definitely wasn't going to make any money off of starcraft 2. So I decided to make the commitment to really grind poker hard. I began playing 25nl rush and ran it up to 1200. Then I played 50nl rush and ran that up to 1650. Then about 3 days ago I won like 11 buyins at 50nl and decided to move up and take shots at 100nl. That went extremely well. I then moved up and took shots at 200nl rush and ran like jesus basically (although still under ev). Then I decided to take a shot at 400nl rush 2 tabling. Ran insanely good like 40bb/100 over like 3k hands.
When all was said and done I am now sitting on the biggest bankroll I have had in over 3 years. Im getting this ridiculously scared feeling now because I have been trapped in the micros for so long. Now that I have a very secure bankroll for 100 and 200nl I am beginning to wonder if I currently have the skill to beat these games for a decent winrate.
Back in 2005-2007 I used to crush 100-200nl so hard. But now those games play way way stronger than 5/10 and 10/20 used to at that time. My style of plays is good enough to win at 50nl for like 3-4bb100 without a doubt. And im sure I can beat 100nl. But 200nl and up im not so sure that I would be better than break even at this point in time.
I think its time to be brutally honest with myself. I am going to have to seriously work on my game and apply myself to get better and be able to move into the midstakes.
I am really interested in hiring a coach to help plug my many leaks. I would like the coach to be a huge winner at 100-400nl. I have never been coached before so I am not sure what to expect. A lot of people that I have spoken to seem to think its worth it. If anyone has any recommendations I am def interested.
So my HUD is having a fun issue. The players hud doesn't appear next to the actual player. When I move all the huds next to the proper player on one table it fucks up the hud locations on all my other tables. Anyone know how to fix this?
writing is hard but dealing with these psychopaths and principled sociopaths is fucking exhausting and more to the point i'm not allowed to say fuck. the games fucking suck. the fish are all gone because fish like to have fun and these games are not fun. you can have it. buy my books.
