| | July by TalentedTom, June 27
Ok, so for the month of July I'm gonna play less cashgames and really play Tournies very hard. Liquidpoker.net is having a MTT challenge for that month and I'm gonna spend that month learning all I can about tournies which is something I've never done before.

| | Day One by TalentedTom, June 26
Okay - I may not be able to do 8h a day every day immidiatley. It's a difficult transition to make, but I will make a conscience effort to put in more hours every day, untill I am eventually albe to play for extended peroids of time.
Todays results : 3/6NL @ Pokerstars, 2400 hands +$1985 ~6 hours
Played a preety solid game, didn't make any terrible calls which is good. Once I learn to play longer I see no reason that I can't make 3-4 buy ins daily so long as I'm not cold-decked. Many of these players are absoluley attrocious these games are not difficult by any means. Here's examples of today's hands.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/42713
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/42797
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/42809
Poker is indeed a game of hours not results - this is something I wish I had realized earlier, I checked my lifetime winrate @ 3/6 via Pokertracker and im making just a little under 11bb/100, which is definatley maintainable given the calibur of these players. I used to just stop if i won the first 2 or so all in pots and call it a day. But if I was break-even or losing for the day I would continue playing as long as it took... Which is not the correct way to approach this game. There's no reason I cannot make 50k+ a month even jutst playing 3/6 NL full time. This number is very achievable - 50k/ 30 days = ~$1670/day. With a winrate of 10bb/100 (10 is a nice round number) this can be made playing ~2800hands/day which equates to about 6h a day 8-tabling. If I 8-table for 8h+ there's no reason 50k/month cannot be achieved.

| | So..yeah by straate, June 26
Haven't 'felt' like playing for the last few days....I had an amazing start to the week, then even for a couple days...pretty frustrating. Tomorrow (Monday) I'm going to log some serious hands and really try to play a lot and play well. I also decided to prolong the time until I move up to 2/4. I think I want 50 buyins, just to be cautious and really work on my game more here at 1/2. I'm also going to start making more posts on the blog, I really think it is going to help my game by reflecting on it.

| | Return by TalentedTom, June 25
I've really been slacking off A LOT latley I've never had this much free time avaliable to me, and apparently my time managment skills are non-existant. So starting today I will make a conscience effort to play a solid 8h+ a day for at least 6 of 7 days every week.
Let the madness begin.

| | Poker and I by straate, June 20
Hey.
I go to college in Wisconsin. I am 20. I've been playing a couple years, but it has just gotten to a 'serious' point.
I've been playing seriously since mid-April. I played 50NL for about 2 weeks and made about 5k. Then I moved to 100nl and played for another 2 weeks, until I had about 9k. 200nl is a bit tougher. Also, I've had some really really horrid runs. I've made it through them finally, and have switched to 6-max, and have been crushing it. I plan to move to 400NL within a week. My ultimate goal is to have a 40-50k roll by September 1st, '06 and be playing 1000 NL. Oh yeah, I play on stars. I also should be hitting supernova within a couple of days.
I think I will try to post at least once a week. Probably more. Sometimes less. I will be mainly focusing on cash games, but will be playing the occasional tourny.

| | last week in the home games by Op3th, June 09
I did very well compared to previous weeks of just breaking even. On Sunday we played at my house and I played very solid. I got quad 10's but that was about it. Than Wed we played at Jeffs and I brought my co-worker and it was the most interesting night thus far....Everything was happening backwards!!! Jeff was winning....ya......I paid Erin off and her hands held up....ya....All in all I mixed it up a lot on Wed. And played pretty well. My house +55 Jeffs house +60 not a bad week for home games. +115

| | What was I thinking.... by TalentedTom, May 06
For a reason that I am unable to think of, when I moved to 2/4 I decided to play the Tight-Aggresive style as opposed to the style I've been crusing the 1/2 games with which was a feirce LAG. So about 2 days ago I decided to start playing LAG again and I've been crushing the games since. My 10bb/100 has jumped back to the high teens 18-19bb/100 where it used to be when I was running 1/2NL.
I think the problem was the fact I may have been a little afraid of the new limit. I wasn't comfortable with the idea of losing 1k pots on a daily basis but now that I'm used to the stakes and the swings that come with it, I can comfortably play my usual LAG again
Today's session was short I didn't feel like playing too long.
831 hands (2/4NL)
29% vpip
+1560
I hope my success continues

| | Crazy day by TalentedTom, April 30
Played about 2000 hands had about 27% vpip. I'm normally pretty stable, winning a few buy ins then losing a big pot and working upward again etc... Today, however, the first 600 hands I played ran into four set vs set (of course each time I lose the maximum) and KK vs AA. So very quickly I see my money dissapear im -$2700 playing $2/4 that's attrocious.
Had a lot of self-doubt at this point, talked to a few people they suggested logging off and starting fresh another day. I didn't know what to make of this so I continued playing. Next ~700 hands im break even, last 700 hands im +$2800 Finally things begin going my way, not that it was all skill - I did suckout a few times, but I feel that was only to balance out the bs that happened earlier. After all everything balances out over time.
Day total : +100 Memorable hands:

| | Welcome. by TalentedTom, April 26
I've been playing poker for a while now (a little over 13-14 months so far) except I didn't make enormous profits untill recently. What I accomplished my first 6-8 months playing I can emulate in less than a week now. Becuase of this I am now taking poker more seriously and I want to see how far I can go with it. My goal is to accumulate at least 100K this summer, I set 100K as a minimim, I do actually expect to make more.
The biggest road-block for me so far has been my school. I am taking mechanical engineering at Ryerson (Toronto, Canada) - that means 6-7 courses every 4 months full of physics, calcalus, programming etc... which means I have to do a ton of work and I'm constantly tired and burned out so I can't play as much as I would like to. Now that it's summer time I'm gonna play "full time" and see where that goes.
Lets see where this goes

| | REAL NEW ZEALAND NEWS by TheHuHu, July 20
We hope all of you in London are safe and well after the dreadful terrorist bombings. A memorial service was held this morning in the city for a young New Zealand woman, Shelley Marie Mather, 26, who died in the attacks.
Controversy continues to rage about whether the Government should step in to forbid the Black Caps going to Zimbabwe for a cricket tour later this year. The Green Party, human rights groups and most Kiwis (according to a recent poll) think the tour should be stopped to protest that country's worsening human rights abuses. The Government remains opposed to passing laws governing the travel of private citizens, which would admittedly be a rather ironic way to protest an authoritarian regime. Email networks and local blogs are abuzz with gossip and name dropping over reports that a number of high profile Aucklanders have been hauled in as part of a big drugs bust. The accused have name suppression, but the rumours point strongly towards two, well-known, former international sportsmen TV celebrities.... whom I'm just itching to name for you but had better not. The National Party still seems to have a slight lead over Labour. Despite a concerted campaigning effort by Labour over the Parliamentary winter holidays, the polls show the Nats two points ahead. At this stage, either party would need NZ First to form a government, but Labour would need the Greens as well. Still no official word on the election date, but the 17th September is the favourite of most pundits. Perhaps a little belatedly, the Government announced a crack-down on tertiary courses of dubious merit. A few high profile examples, such as sing-along in Maori classes and surfing courses, have caused much public outrage and Labour grief over the last year. From Whangarei? Your nearby Mt Parahaki has been renamed Mt Parihaka, after local iwi pointed out a historical error in the spelling. Not all the locals are that thrilled. An amateur-built Kiwi satellite is closer to launch after Massey researchers made a breakthrough in the development of its solar energy cells. The basketball-sized satellite will be piggy-backed into space on a much larger Russian satellite sometime soonish, hopefully. New Zealand Idol 2 has exploded onto screens (not mine) around the country and a 26 year old Masterton man is the bookies' early favourite. Meanwhile, the latest Tui billboard reads, "NZ Idol: Ticket to Stardom. Yeah right." The NZ-directed and filmed Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, is in post-production in London and nearing launch. And Peter Jackson's King Kong trailer was released. Some of the scenes are recognisably south coast Wellington, and what looks like 1920s New York is actually Petone a few months ago.
