| | Almost there!! by PanoRaMa, August 22
My last blog post was about how I tilted off $4k.
http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a162/sirasoni/almost.jpg
I'm proud to say that, after being invigorated with a new sense of urgency, motivation, and passion to win, I am now almost break even .
I started my new revival on 8/09 and since then I've played 26k hands (when prior to this I only averaged only 20k hands/month LOL), at 100nl (to rebuild my roll to a respectable level) and 200nl only. There were many times where I almost lost hope, in my ability to succeed, and in my future as a poker player. As you can see, after the tilt session there were numerous sessions where I'd lose more or just go back to my starting point all over again.
However, I stuck through it and now I'm back . Additionally, I made a stake bet with my teacher that with the 1k he gave me, I either had to turn it into a 5000 dollar profit (RB and stake money not included obv) or I'd have to ship back 1500 (otherwise I get to keep 200 of the stake rofl what a shitty stake bet). I think I was a bit delusional when I made that bet, but I'm only 700 away from making it now and about 11 days ahead of schedule . ANDDDD I finally got enough points to get an 80gig ipod (80k ftpoints). It's deducted from my MGR of course, but it's still nice to just have it appear in the mail for me. For those interested, the calculations (if I did them right) come out to me getting the ipod for only like 108 dollars, as opposed to the 250 dollar retail or w/e.
Congrats to me, and thanks for the people that had replied to my hand threads on the right sidebar throughout my numerous rollercoaster sessions.
Variance: At beginning of summer, was planning on being at 400nl by the start of Fall Quarter. Doesn't look that way anymore, but I'm still fine with that

Nothing special in my Poker career
Its goes up and down and up and down and up and down etc.
Today was an okay day.
After i lost about 40 $ yesterday i am up + 35 $ for today
yet some thoughts about my poker career and Poker in generall
1.)
I tried some NL 10 and i realized cashgame is not the right thing for me.
I simply tilt so much when i see my dollars go away by a bad beat
I am thinking about the money all the time and check cashier like every 2 seconds as soon as i lose a 10 $ all in ...
I have no problem with buyin in SNG for 50 $ and knowing the money could be gone ...
but i go on mad tilt as soon as i lose 10 $ in cashgame ...
So i ll stick to SNG forever.
2.) I made a Video playing 6 tables of 6.50 SNG
basically the reason behind this is that i havent made a video in ages and it is quite funny thing to do.
dont think anyone will profit from it much since i am a low stakes noob. Maybe someone watches it and helps me with my leaks.
For sure i am not playing perfect poker and i could improve a ton. However it is also funny to see how luck is my worst enemy.
It includes a nice Heads up match where i completely outplay my noobish villian but loose 2 all-in situations where i am ahead 70-30 or better
and finally lose a coinflip to bust.
i ll give a link to the video tomorrow when its uploaded.
3.) Lots of good players are whining that the edge in high stakes Poker that good players have over bad players is getting smaller and variance becomes a much bigger factor.
I was thinking for a while about the situation with SNGS.
I mean there is not too much skill for SNGS that you have to learn it forever.
Of course there is a big skill difference on low stakes such as 6.50$ between some serious player who does it for the money like me and some family father who just wants to have some fun with playing poker tourneys without really knowing what hes doing.
i would also say i have an edge over the average low stakes player in the way i think about hands , board meanings and probabilities combined with my knowledge about different villians playstyles
But at High stakes SNG everybody has prooved himself a winner at SNGS, and everybody knows how to play good.
Isnt it all variance then ?
I think that at 109 $ SNG or higher hardly anyone makes a bad play ever. ( of course sometimes , but most of the regulars are damn solid)
Theres also a high stakes SNG player that i have always admired.
FA_Morgoth the national german poker champion and
former Ger_team Broodwar 2v2 member ( as far as i remember)
I often watched his SNGS at party and he absolutely raped the games. He also made some nice videos that i learned a lot from.
recently he gave Pokerstars a try.
this is the result.
http://img251.imageshack.us/img251/9797/morgothsv2.jpg
So yeha seems my theorey about high stakes SNG being all variance is not too far fetched.
thoughts ?

| | Night session by NeillyJQ, August 22
I've been playing very calm, patient poker, and have been developing alot of good habits at the table lately. Tonight was no different, and I played very well for a few hours tonight and won a nice profit. Each day I'm getting closer and closer to NL50 and am looking forward to moving up.
I'm going to go eat dinner soon, so I won't post any analysis tonight, but this weekend I will be posting alot of hand analysis.
Heres my stats from tonights session;
During current Hold'em session you were dealt 1547 hands and saw flop:
- 106 out of 214 times while in big blind (49%)
- 38 out of 214 times while in small blind (17%)
- 119 out of 1119 times in other positions (10%)
- a total of 263 out of 1547 (17%)
Pots won at showdown - 31 of 55 (56%)
Pots won without showdown - 155
I'll be going to Pittsburgh tomorrow to clean my old house out of all my possesions down there to get ready to move to Taiwan.
On a side note I have an absessed tooth thats infected and its been giving me alot of problems, and was causing my focus to slip for a while there, but now that I'm on proper antibiotics and some pain medicine until surgery next thursday, I'll be playing my best again during all sessions.
GL everyone,

| | HU pwnage by SneakrFreakr, August 22
So I decided to play some HU today (nl200 on Prima). Had a sick bad run. I am abviously aware of swings in HU game and I know 6 buyins ain't much at all but the way I've been running was just atrocious. I played very well IMO and still got ran over by some total fags. But oh well, what can you do. That's poker.
I think I'll give up HU for a while. Or at least I'll drop back to nl100 HU and continue playing 6max nl300 and nl200 and move up to nl400 in the near future (today's loss won't help with it tho). The swings in HU are crazy and I handle 6max swings way better. There's sth in the HU game that tilts me easily. I haven't tilted at the tables today but I was so angry that I was almost ready to throw my laptop through the window lolz. When I lose 5 buyins at 6max in a session I'm ok with it. When I lose 2 buyins in HU I'm going mad (doesn't affect my game almost at all).
Any advice???

| | Moving On Up... by jayluf, August 22
G'Day-
So I remember there being a kid named 'G-Day' in middle school or high school or whatever. I always thought it was pretty odd for that to be the kid's nickname, seeing as his real name was Nick Manter, and he wasn't from Austrailia. Anyway I remember coming home for a thanksgiving during college and going through my local paper's 'Arrests + Incidents' section, probably the most popular of the West Hartford News. Reading along I came accross a blurb about an arrest for breaking and entering by a 20 year old male. Literally this was the context;
" Nick 'G-Day' Manter, 20, West Hartford, was arrested early Friday morning for breaking and entering the Hebrew Home Residence at 134 North Main Street at approximately 5 a.m. "
I remember thinking damn, the kid really made a name for himself, I never saw a kid's nickname in the 'Arrests & Incidents' section before. And the Hebrew Home? I guess I'll never know.
Anyway, I've been running well lately. My HU play is the best it's ever been. Gradually have been shifting away from HU SNG's to ring games. Made it to the round of 8 in the $20 256 HU tourney the other night. I'll edit this later and put the crippling hand to hear some feedback. Basically the hand was played so weird. I limped from the button with K2os. Villain checked. Flop comes K 3 5. I bet and am check raised. I noticed he was doing a lot of c/r with draws and not necessarily top pair/2 pair/set hands, though this range was certainly possible. based on that info, I called to see what developed on the turn. Off rolls a 4. He fires 2/3 pot. I ended up tanking on this one for quite some time and obviously put him on K3/K5/35/33/55 or 46, maybe air. I really think he is showing up with 46 over 50% of the time here though. I discounted every other King because he would have called my flop bet and raised/bet out on the turn based on previous play. With that, I called. A 3 rolled off on the river and the villain insta-shoved(his effective on turn was about size of pot). I think he had some magic button that had him all in before the card was dealt. And that's what confused that absolute monkey nuts out of me. I absolutely put him on 46 for a missed draw based on the insta-shove (he didn't have great sharkscope stats BTW) and called. He flips up K8 and its good. I really think he kinda turned it into a bluff on the river. Oh well. GG jayluf.
So we're moving up to 100NL. Current plan is to play the 215 HORSE, 320 HU, 500 NL, and 1K NL for the WCOOP. I'm going to have to look at my work schedule because I think I would like to get the Stud and possibly ME in as well.
Later kids.

| | If anyone cares... by Luna_Bluffgood, August 22
A little introduction of myself:
My name is Luna Bluffgood and im currently in my 6th year at Hogwarts. I'm about 5.5" and have blond long hair and my voice is all weird...
Ok that's a lie.
I'm no girl actually and I'm not pretending to be one just to get any pedophiles' attention. I am just a little harry potter fanatic (thx to Emma Watson, who was the reason I started reading th books) and found this nickname to be quite amusing.
My real name is Simon (I do have blond hair though).
I'm currently on semester break from law school. I study german law the University of Passau, Germany, which is situated at the rivers Donau, Inn and Ilz in Lower Bavaria right on the austrian border. I'm also doing the external law program of the university of London to study english law.
During the semester I don't have that much time to poker, because of the sick amounts we law students have to study (Hello Cutsss), but since im on break now I've been putting in quite a few hours.
As for poker, like most here I guess, I got into it through my StarCraft friends, when we played a few sngs at the infamous ToT LAN with Strafe, Muhweli etc.
I still play StarCraft occasionally (my nick is PfiliTheDwarf on europe, TheDwarf being my clan -ATTENTION BRAG- we play in BWCL-1a, but we'll go back to bwcl-2
Of course I didnt't know jack about poker that time, but I eventually got the sick amount of 5$ from PokerStrategy.de and started playing 0.01/0.02 fixed, which kinda helped me to get a good theoretic undertanding of the theory of the game. Eventually I rose in stakes to 0.5/1 fixed with around 300$. Then I hit a nice downer to eventually go near broke.
I got lucky at the right time though and used my last 4.40$ to play a 180 man sng. I got farely deep in chips, but then had to leave and Strafe took over and made 4th place for me and I got shipped the sick amount of 57.60$. I tried fixed for a while again, but was bored eventually. I got lucky once again and won a sunday million seat in a 3+r with the help of my peers and then started out with NL. I pledged that I would continue playing fixed, because I found the risk of losing so much money in NL so quickly to be unsuitable for the nature of my character. Well, that promise didn't last, and I don't think I played a hand of fixed online since then. I didn't really enjoy getting called down until the river with bottom pair and that happened a lot since I played FR. I guess fixed limit can be quite fun, but I estimate that the real play starts at 2/4 6max and I never got that high.
Well, anyhow, I was taken right in by NL and managed a fairly easy transition. I think my fixed knowledged helped me a lot there, as well as Strafe, Muhweli, Mondi etc. so thanks for that.
Well i already bored you enough. I've been playing NL for a year now. I got up as far NL100 with a bankroll peak of around 4k. When I started studying last October I stopped playing for good until Christmas, when I went to Vienna with Dissy, Rob and Arthur to the Concorde Card Casino. After that I was infatuated again, so I started rebuilding my BR, then hit a downer, and combined with bad play that's not something you enjoy. After a nice February, where I made around 1,5k, I didn't have a winning month until this August now.
Due to my semester break I've sick amounts of time now (although I probably should be studying criminal law, but nvm). I played around 23k this month so far, which, for 4-tabling is quite a lot, compared to how little I played before.
Here are my stats for the month.
http://img212.imageshack.us/img212/4476/augustptsj7.png
Not particularly great, but I am just glad to have a winning month again. Unfortunately I can't get a grip on tourneys atm. More on that in the next episode. I've been writing way too much now anyway.
I'm on a sick run btw the last two days. Feels good.

| | new LP banner by byrnesam, August 22
I like the banner but it needed a couple of subtle changes. So i went ahead and took the initiative so Nazgul didnt have to worry about it.
I sent it to Nazgul on MSN:
Sam says: Do you like the new banners i made?
Nazgul says: post them in your blog, tell people if they like them they should spam my PM inbox and flood the main poker forum with "VOTE YES"
Sam says: that seems a little out of character, but ok.
You heard the man, so here they are.

Each one has an updated slogan. I changed the old (and cliche) AA to a joker and an uno card. The most powerful hand in texas holdem.

| | Home game hand? by wilddamon, August 22
The second time I've ever played live poker lol, I believe the others play regularly. I just went along for shits and giggles.
Got into a weird spot, tell me what you think:
blinds are 25c/50c, buy in is $25
button: (about $50)
Jack: ($20)
me: ($19)
silver: ($32)
jack posts sb
I post bb
dealt to me: QKo
silver: folds
button: calls 0.50
jack: calls 0.25
I check
flop: Q 9 T rainbow (pot $1.50)
jack raises $2
I raise to $6
button thinks for a while, then min raises to $12
jack: folds
Me: ? (I have $13.50 left)
button and jack have been monkeying around a bit, but button hasn't been out of line in any big pots.
He did show down (and won) with a random pair of 4s earlier, but that may have just been a sick read.
as for online, doing ok, short session this evening since I'm supposed to be studying for a test that's tomorrow morning >.>
During current Hold'em session you were dealt 352 hands and saw flop:
- 50 out of 77 times while in big blind (64%)
- 28 out of 77 times while in small blind (36%)
- 37 out of 198 times in other positions (18%)
- a total of 115 out of 352 (32%)
Pots won at showdown - 16 of 33 (48%)
Pots won without showdown - 52
total won: $8
It's weird how I've made the most money overall online on Wednesday nights, you'd think it would be the weekends when all the fish are out...

| | LOL DEERAMENTS! by Rush, August 22
So I bought a 97 Audi A4 in the end of July. Felt good cuz it was probably the biggest purchase I've bought with poker money. Anyway about a week ago, I was driving home on I-5 (freeway) to my house when I took the exit and hit a deer going ~60mph. The Deer proceeded to fly over my car after smashing into my hood/bumper area. Today I went to the repair shop to pay/look at my car for the first time in the light since the acident happened at 2am and I was too mad to really pay that close of attention.
Here is my paint art to describe/show the situation.
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y149/JcM3420/bambi.jpg
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y149/JcM3420/08-21-07_1551.jpg
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y149/JcM3420/08-21-07_1548.jpg
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y149/JcM3420/08-21-07_1550.jpg
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y149/JcM3420/08-21-07_1549.jpg
So one semi-new to me car + deer = major damage and $3500 repair bill. Life tilt ensues for who knows how long.
Holler niggas.
P.S. - The next day I drove by the spot where I hit the deer and saw it all crumpled up on the side of the road. So I took some sick pleasure in knowing it died while I raged. Though it'd be a pretty fucking strong deer to survive all the damage if you ask me...Also I only had Liability insurance on my car at the time.

| | Pokerstars vs. FullTilt Poker by curtinsea, August 21
I decided to give Full Tilt a try, after two mostly unsuccessful years on Pokerstars. Since I've only played real money games on pokerstars, I have no basis for comparison.
After 18 games (I play SNG's almost exclusively), my line according to sharkscope:
Avg stake = $9
Avg profit = $8
Avg ROI = 73%
Total profit = $139
Compared to the embarassment that are my stats for pokerstars, I'm ecstatic. I've made some mistakes, donk calls here and there, and a bad beat or two, but for the most part, I get in or near the money most games. I notice I make a lot of sets with pocket pairs. I don't see as many bad beats and hear a lot less complaining about them.
If you play(ed) both sites, let me know what you think.
