I feel like I have a huge edge after I played in a $150 tournament on the day after thanksgiving this year and placed 14th and 12 paid and just from in general playing nl200 at the casino, ive met one good player who is a nl400 player at UB and he didnt seem any better than me.
I obviously cant afford this right now and im just throwing it out there that I would do it.
i took some NL100 shot yesterday, went pretty well got some beats but afterall im up 330$ + Rb. I came back on Poker with 20$ ON NL2. 3 weeks later i was on NL10 with 250$ by november 4th, now i am NL100 with 2365$ Rakeback included.I've been wondering how fast people grind up NL2-100 ++
Added Tracker result, my poker grapher doesnt work on my computer dunno why :/
I'm in Michigan right now with my mom's side of the family, as per family tradition. We went to church last night and did the Christmas Eve service, which was filled with new wave Christian rock which was horrible. This is the 1 time of the year that I go to church and every time it reminds me why I don't go any more than that.
Getting really sick and it sucks, plus went through absolute plane hell getting out here. The airport we were flying into lost power so we ended up sitting on the runway for 2 hours hoping it would come back. No luck so they canceled the flight and we spent the night at the airport. They then lost our bags and we JUST got them today after many hours arguing with the baggage people on the phone. All of our presents were in the bags, so we're in the process of wrapping them now to then open them in an hour or so. Fun.
Anyway, played some poker last night after church thinking the tables would be soft since last year it was an easy easy night. Maybe the microstakes were fun, but NL100 was a rockfest. I had the same 3 TAG's on all 4 of my tables and I kept leaving to find new ones and there were more TAGs everywhere I looked. After a lot of searching I did find some fish and was able to pull in a 3 BI win, but it was hard fought money every step of the way.
My conclusion is that NL100 is harder than NL50. Maybe I just ran into tough tables, but man, when the tables are though it is a real battle. I opened up my range a lot and played about 20/17 and that was nice and seemed to work. But it was really hard to get any value out of anybody. Barely any big pots went down but I did come out on the winning end of my 2 All-ins.
I'm very confused on how to handle so much more aggression. Lot's of 3bets and people are trying to steal pots left and right. Running into a lot more raises than calls, which is new to me. I started check-raising a lot more (I usually do like 1 a session) especially vs people who liked to bet any flop that was checked to them. Had to get a bit trickier to get paid off.... Feel like this was the first time that I really had to change up my game from solid / standard TAG to be able to win. Very interesting. Jamie, I need lessons!
I think NL100 is going to be where I being to learn a LAG style. Till now TAG has been ideal but I think I'm gonna have to become much more LAG now. I figured by NL200 I'd have to make that change anyway, so this is a good time to practice and make the transition.
Anyway, I made a new thread on the forumz about 2 hands that confused me. A little help would be much appreciated. Click here and help a NewB out.
So in order to let you guys know a little more about me I thought I would provide some basic info. My name is Austin, I am currently 19 years old and I play poker as my main source of income. I attend college at University of Central Florida, where I am currently studying Language Arts Education as my major. College is super boring to me and I only attend because I know it will benefit long term. I wish I had more dedication to putting in around 30-40k hands a month but I dont, this month I have put in around 8k at 200 and am pleasantly surprised with how I did considering how bad I have run. Hmmm, I started at 10NL in June at FTP, I sucked and did not know what I was doing, luckily FTP had RB and that is how I survived until I met ToT)Midian. I have a semi starcraft backing career so I obv knew who he was but was thinking imposter! Anyhow, we started talking and he helped my game a lot, well at least enough to where I went from playing like 36/15 to 16/12 and beating 25nl. A good local friend of mine "dudebrochill" on PS, and his brother "TerrySchiavo" really helped my game take off last summer though. I learned how to open my game up a lot more and to make more adjustments against people. Finally, I would like to say thanks to all the people that commented my first post and thanks for welcoming me :-D. TianYuan out of curiosity how many VPPs did you obtain this year? It must be a crapload. And Jamie I read your blog recently and I must say its very impressive. Below is all of my month that I have on my desktop, wanna hit me up on AIM? I can be reached at ponnasm522.
land of the free*
*conditions apply - if you have money.
THAILLAND FUCKING ROCKSSSSSSSSS.
I seriously want to move there. Fucking do anything you like, nobody gives a shit. they say people are free in western countries hahahah. my ass. Cant do anything.
doesnt even compare to the freedom u get in thailand.
You gotta have money but. But i think if u have 500$ income monthly youll be fine there.
So i gotta step up with poker lol so i can move there at least to live for like 6 months, then come back when rainy season starts and maybe earn more money.
So my downswing continued and after two KK vs AA pf, one AK vs JJ (guess the flop...)pf, one flush over flush and 5 straight walks with AA (ok, I managed to raise one in between, get 3 callers and a 588 flop where the worst nit on the site went crazy) I've come to the conclusion that I sure as hell ain't making money playing 3/6 and higher when I'm running bad. I won like 22k during the first one and a half month I played it though so I pretty much think that I'm at least not outclassed. However, sooner or later one will have to face all the facts and do what needs to be done, in my case moving down to rebuild. I was still rolled for NL600 (somewhat, 40bi or so) but I withdrew most of it and left myself with 6k euro (I'll get a pretty big rakeback to, so it's effectively like 8 or 9k I think) and I'll just grind 1/2£ for a while.
It's nice to have a bread and butter limit where I know that I'll pretty much win no matter what and I'm pretty sure I wasn't meant to play high stakes anytime soon anyway. Even though some of the regs I see at 5/10 pretty much sucks it's not like if I'm as good as any of the high stakes players here on LP. Give me a year or so though, then it might be different.
I've also made two of decent MTT-scores lately. I got 6 in a 6k grtd for like 370 USD last night and I got 83rd or something in prima's 175k grtd last sunday for 250 USD or so. The players seem to suck in mtt's and even though I mostly have no idea about anything in those some of the plays was just horrid so I'll look into trying to play more of those.
Anyway, I guess my discipline gets better and that's always nice.
up for the month but goals didnt hitby whamm!, December 25
well i was up for this month playing 25nl from both ub(6max) and stars(9maxfr). won like 30bi on each site. somehow last week was kinda slow and bad luck obv took charge so im breaking even after running fairly decent. ive can hit platinum status by the end of the year if i keep playing 50nl fr 12 to 18 tabling, but since things havent been going my way i think im moving back to ub to check the action there (looser imho en at fr) my roll is i think around 2300 to 2400ish so im pretty much happy since ive rebuilt my roll from 600 last november 15 after withdrawing almost 80% of my roll and making a personal challenge to try and rebuild before 2008 comes. ive realized that i have a lot of leaks to fix and i must play a little looser and control myself when running bad while doing it. that has been my problem for the longest time and im trying my best to work on it. hope the coming year is good for everyone here. merry christmas!
This graph may disturb you. No actually I've just made 4k worth of mistakes. Really, really, really need to crack down on my discipline, running cold or not theres always a 5pt/BB session in there at these stakes.
lol...so like a week ago i was tilting and i decided to join a 45man turbo that was out of my br (25+2) and i ended up getting 2nd place in it and boosting my br up nicely taking me off tilt and then today i dropped like 8 buyins to coolers, suckouts, and just plain bad plays (proly the latter mostly but i think it more like at least 5 to the first two, but what do i know and no i didnt post everything as i was way too pissed to pay attention and yes i tilt waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyy too easily sometime ok all the time...im a fucking moron)...so anyways i decided to join another one as i started to tilt again and i busted with
so as you can imagine, me being a retard i joined another tourney, but this time it was a $60 45 man turbo and i ended up getting 4th...crazy fucking tournament...no one would fucking die. all the underdogs would get it in with the worst hands and somehow survived...at one point when there were 12 of us it took like ten minutes or so for someone to bust...jesus christ
nice boost for my br, but i think its time to ban myself for a short time...need to get my head straight and stop doing this stupid shit...i cant always have stupid things pay off big for me...fuck it sucks being terrible at poker :/
P.S. last blog post was joke based on the 2 blog posts from other people just ahead of mine, the first being "i can feel christmas", the other "i can't feel christmas", and then I added mine as "i can't feel my balls"
