hey...my name is joey gilbert and I'm starting this blog to keep track of my poker results and to just talk about my life and such. I go to Bentley College in mass where I'm gonna major in accounting or finance, not really sure yet. I play poker for my job right now and just recently had some minor success. My friend Russel "loosefer" Blattberg has been staking me for about 2 months now to play 100nl and 200nl. My month of December went really well with me making about 45 buyins at 100nl in about 30000 hands so i moved up to 200nl and did well at first but then went on an 8 buyin downswing which wasn't to bad but i wasnt ready mentally to lose that much money at once. so, i moved back down to 100nl and continued to run bad. lost about another 7 buyins and thats when i decided to drop the stake. So now I'm playing 50nl with about $1100. So, I wouldn't say my roll is healthy but it is manageable and I'm ready to start grinding it out on my own. I haven't played much 50nl but from what I've played so far it's nice and fishy so I'm pretty happy to start crushing these limits.
It's real I tell you! Okay maybe not but sure feels like it down 4 BIs in 3 hands to the same guy. I flop top 2 pair, he flops trips. Next hand I flop top 2 pair with AK, he flops nut straight. Next hand I flop A-5 he gets 2-6 on turn. GG me v_v
BR is now at 3700 after unlocking the Christmas Bonus that was the prelude to my rondo of bustruction. Will probably shot NL2 at 4200.
I've been back in New Hampshire since January 24th for Chinese New Year winter break - it's been pretty fun. I'm trying to get a Nintendo Wii, but it seems impossible to get in stores. I've called BestBuy/CircuitCity/EB/Walmart etc, with no luck. I go back to Taiwan February 17, so just another beat that SSBB has had its release date pushed back.
Since nobody plays badminton in the east coast except for weird Chinese / Indian FOBs here, I've definitely missed playing. To make matters worse, I'm suffering from planar fasciitis (heel spur), making walking painful. The condition hasn't improved at all, so I'll have to see a doctor -_-
sorry but im really tired and so blog is just for recording purposes so i can review month by month and shit
month was shit house. didnt play much and when i did it was up and down. was playing NL25 a lot and doing ok, mainly break even. but i realised that i cant play properly at only 20 buyins, i was just getting pissed off whenever my BR would go under 500. so im going to do what alot of u guys do and get 25 buyins before my next shot. also i suck at 6 max, not playing it again for a long long time.
reading Deadman's blog really inspired me to keep playing poker at least 25k hands a month. i mean i played NL2 with him when i first started off, and he just made 3k in january. so im more aiming long term but in 6 months i would definitely like to be NL50 or something, thatd be cool :_)
I deposited 350$ on Stars, as u know. I started playing on 10NL. After 1500 hands, i was up 3 buyins. And then Lee turned on the switch: after 5000 hands, im down 9 buyins. Im sick oh this shit. Everything i did, was correct, i put my money in good, and still lost. All of the coinflips, AA vs KK 4 times, and so on...
So i stopped. Toke a break. 2 days of break actually. I reviewed my play a dozen of times, and i found my biggest mistake: too many tables. I played on 12 tables... I felt i played good, but now i can see, i spewed too much, made wrong laydowns, etc..
Today, i started again, this time with 6 tables only. And it works: after 900 hands, im up 4 buyins, almost made back the half of my losses. At evening, i will post some hands and the graph.
Hey Joe, where you going with that gun in yo hand?by CrownRoyal, January 31
So for no real reason I've been playing sng again after an 8month break or so from them being my main game.
They have been pretty sick profitable (+300 in about 100 sng or something) and i've been running hot + they are fun for me at the moment so i'll probably stick with them at least for a while.
In other news, I passed my initial craps dealer interview and stuff. I'm going back today at 2pm for my second interview (wtf why are there two interviews on two different days, crazy indians.) If I do get the job though, it's going to suck huge cock as far as my partying/social life goes. I'll be working thurs-sunday from 5pm-2am which pretty much destroys any hope of ever doing anything on a weekend again. Eventually though I wont be a craps dealer maybe and just do blackjack/poker and they'll give me a day or two off from th-sun.
Anyways, if any of you guys have cute sisters who are in need of a baller elite boyfriend I've noticed recently that im running low on girls and need to acquire a new batch of them.
feel free to drop some cell phone #s in my comments.
for the last 10 days i've been getting raped at 100nl , its like nothing i can do is working , typical stuff like not being able to hit when i need to , not getting action on my big hands even i have a great image, basically it's been feeling like nothing's going right and it's affected me mentally when i move up each time greatly, where i start off playing good then spiral down after getting frustrated, start playing not so great and then rage quitting.
the last 7-8 shots ive taken have all ended in me either being down 2-4 BI's within 400-1.5k hands, or getting up 1-2 BI's then losing it all and ending back down. i dont get it, its like i cant do one fucking thing right to just net ONE positive day @ 100nl, >both< 6 max and FR.
I can beat 50nl easily, but its super frustrating going back there, rebuilding, and getting beat down again when i move back up to take another shot
BR has yo-yo'd from 2.2k to 1.7k the last week , 2-4 BI downswings arent that much yeah, but the fact is when they're like that for the last 7-8 times i've taken a shot its super frustrating, especially when i rebuild and have to try again
it just feels fucking annoying to be stagnating
ugh
WTB A COACH WHO IS PROVEN WINNER @ 100NL to 200NL over a large sample size
Well yesterday was probably one of the biggest "upswings" ive had in the shortest ammount of time, the session ended quite shitty loosing nearly 2k in less than 1k hands, i were quite upset i almost leave but i hanged in there and bam... my luck changed and managed to go from -1.8k to +2.8k in arround 1.2k hands... nearly 5k made on 1.2k hands, sick stuff!!!
This is, by far, the most hands I've ever played in a month. 95 hours of poker, at around 950 hands / hour. Given that I played so much, my results leave a lot to be desired. My overall BB/100 was about half of what I averaged last year.
The graph is pretty humorous, I think. The first half of the month involved going on 2k hand heaters, and then slowly dribbling away a good portion of the profits over the next 4k-6k hands. This happened on five separate occasions, with the last being a much more dramatic $9,000 downswing. The second half of the month involved an unusually variance-heavy ride upwards.
Looking back at other months where I ended up with similar overall BB/100s, this is the 'choppiest' graph of the bunch. Choppy = excessive variance = emotional turmoil.
(Some of you guys might counter that this really isn't that bad over a 90k sample of hands. All I can tell you is that it felt awful.)
Overall, this month has been so sick pokerwise. I started out in like early January playing NL10 and just sucking ass, and I hit a bad run, running KK into AA preflop etc... a lot of bad plays, and as a result, my skill dropped insanely. I would hardly ever c-bet, only play AJs+ 1010+ and fold to any c-bet or raise preflop.
thank god, I caught a hold of that and stopped myself from losing my entire bankroll (instead only lost $220 of my $300 BR)
Now I'm back up to $192.
FPP is goin pretty well. Hit 550 today, so I can actually get something for free!
So either a shirt, a bear, a beanie, or a stress star. What shall it be?
And after school I went out and got drunk. Now it seems like ive lost some radio equipment worth over $1k while being drunk hitting on semi hot chicks. 1k isnt really a big deal, the humiliation is another thing. Im retarded, so standard, I hate when bullshit disturb my hitting on chicks flow.
lee had to take some back todayby whamm!, January 30
today ended with me losing 250usd. sick, sick session again. 5 outers, no set over set but a couple of aa vs kk, kk vs aa scenarios. kept fighting all the way to the end. even played 100nl 6max, won some there, lost some to 100nl fr, went 50nl 6max lost there too, but the sickest was at fr, i had like 12 sets or more today and most of them just fold to 1 bet. today makes me think bad about my game and coz ive been winning a ton lately, this is the first big loss ive encountered this month since that 50nl variance 30k hand breakeven run. ive got to relax and think things through now. peace.
quite sick variance/bad play coming off two very strong months, but that's what i signed up for. the 9k or so downswing this past week was the toughest one i've had yet and who knows if it's over. managed to book a 3k win today mostly thanks to this beauty: http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/373250
factor in -2k from PCA gambling, and +2k from foxwoods/other live, plus another 2k or so in 6m/hu/sng play and that 2k tourney score and I suppose we can call it a five figure month although that may be a stretch. i ended the month down about three buyins in 400nl over 26k hands which is pretty horrendous, but ran at about 3.5ptbb at 600nl (which constitutes the rest of the hands, and about 2k hands at 5/10 fish hunting).
i made a decent cashout to cover tuition/rent/etc. so i may start off the first week or two at 400nl only and most likely progress back into 3/6 and 5/10 if things go smoothly.
so sick how downswings make you all paranoid like you were never good and it's never going to stop. it's funny because theoretically, it could never stop. i'm a little sad because I've certainly been dethroned from being the biggest baller at 2/4 full ring, but here's to bouncing back in february.
hope you all had a good month, and continue to progress as players.
Bought new comp so no viable PT database for large sample...
Made 3.2k grinding NL25 for 3 weeks and NL50 for bit over a week,so overall moneywise good month.
Cashed out 1k to buy myself a new comp chair,DX10 graphics and new sunglasses since I broke my last ones week or a bit more ago.
Watching a fuckload of seasons of Boston Legal, secretly hoping to see Nolan somewhere.
Socially de-attached absolutely, prime goal making money which for my country 3k is mad good amount (its 3x the Above AVG salary which my brother as a bankar has)
So obv ballin out of control.
Thanks to myth for a little bit of guidance and help this month,he introduced me to new concepts and the man is a absolute hero, impossible not to like him.
