Couple Spots, Couple Thoughts by Aphelion, April 04

Copied this from LS forums cause I wasn't getting response.

Just moved up to 25NL, found it pretty easy so far, up 4 buyins.

Here are a couple spots I'm not sure I played it right. How would

Hand 1:
+ Show Spoiler +

Hand 2:
+ Show Spoiler +

One thing that worries me a lot is that I don't feel my play to be improving, I basically just play my own cards and the texture of the board, and I take note of some extraordinary plays of the villain and take notes, but thats about it. I rarely find myself calculating hand ranges, and my hand reading is still limited to vague, unsystematic inductions of strength and weakness, and a
rough idea of "the possible hands that beat me".

I don't feel I'm a weak thinker theoretically, but I find that all the quirks about actual playing creates a fog of war which reduces my play to instinct and the most obvious simple plays. This is serving me okay so far, but I feel like I need a quantum leap if I wish to be a long term winner on higher stakes, and again I'm not sensing much improvement in myself.

Did anyone have similar experiences moving up? If so, how did you winning mid-high stake regulars get past that to where you are now?

Sorry if this rant belongs in a blog, but I thought it was something constructive to share.

Introducing myself by znb, April 04

http://www.scii.hu/users/noia/hn.gif

Hey LP, I think it's time to start my own blog, and in good style I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Albert and I'm a 22 years old Computer Science major in a local college. I'm playing poker for about a 1,5 years now online and IRL also. It just became "serious" in the last 2-3 months. That doesn't mean I want to play poker for living, but it could be a nice addon to my budget.

I've got my first 10$ on UB by winning a freeroll, and I was grinding on 6max .5+.05 normal/turbo SnGs. Well in less then a month I've made it to around 70$. There were some downswings, which destroyed my confidence (ofc I know, those low stakes SnGs and CCs are the worst part of building a bankroll but whatever). After I stuck around that 70$ I started to play regular tours and finished in the money several times. Suddenly I've got a bankroll about 200$. At that point I started play NL10 FR, mostly on 3-4 tables simultaneously. I would feel myself more casuable at NL5 yet, but UB is missing those tables.

On the whole I'm playing a patient tight aggressive poker online and offline too. Among my IRL poker friends without any immodesty my reading abilty and logic is a bit above the avarage. I'm trying to implement these things into my online game. Sometimes it's working, sometimes it's not, but I'm gaining confidence and I think I'm slowly getting better and better by learning from my mistakes.

I know it's not so big money most of you guys, but I have to start somewhere and it looks a really bid fair.

Mastercard is for fags by Failed Plan, April 04

I have $350 stuck on a prepaid mastercard and for some reason epassporte nor "ultraprepaid" (some way of depositing on ftp) are currently accepting mastercards.

fuck my life.

Is there any way for a US player to get money on any poker site via a mastercard so I can do something with these not so liquid funds?

edit - if i put this on paypal do you think anyone would ever willingly do a transfer with me?

edit2 - i'll even cut a deal with someone like my 350 for your 300 or something if you'll find some way to get me the money on stars and me to somehow use the funds in your favor.

Possibly the worst bad beat I've ever had. I'm not sure whether to laugh or to cry.

I think I'll cry!

My winrate at NL10 is 1.97PTBB/100 and it cannot just be that NL10 is cursed or something. I must be doing something wrong because at NL5 I could take bad beats and still have a win rate of 19PTBB/100 (after a break even stretch of 1000 hands). I know I have to change my play somehow but I don't know how. Play looser? Play tighter? Hmmm... Anyone have any suggestions?

I really don't want to grind NL10 slowly and move up without knowing that I can beat it, because I'm sure the problems I'm facing will return to haunt me. For the same reason I don't want to go back to playing NL5 to build up my bankroll and skip NL10 altogether. Okay, so people say NL25 is easier but it's going to get harder again as I move up and I don't really want to end up in NL25 for the rest of my life either.

Sigh.

Arthritis medicine is really working fantastic for the dog though and she's jumping around happily. That's keeping me from tilting!

EDIT: I may have found the answer. The secret to beating NL10 lies in adding 72s to my repertoire!

In the big blind I am dealt 27s. Two players limp, I check and turn my attention to the pairs of queens on some other table that gets no callers. When I look back, the flop has come 772.

Wary of frightening my prey, I gently enter a 2/3pot bet. One player folds. The other min raises. I gasp. He's got a monster the size of a porn star's schlong!

I call and bet the turn. He calls. I bet the river. He calls that too. The money goes in the pot and I triumphantly fling my 72s in his face! There is a long pause for the villain to decide whether or not to press the

YOU LOST
SHOW HAND

button. I use the pause to scream, "SON OF JOR-EL!!!!! KNEEL BEFORE ZOD!!!!!"

Micro player need help desperately. by Ftrunkz, April 04

Okay, I'm going to say it right off the get go, this post will be insane, and i highly doubt to get many people, or maybe even no one that will read the whole thing. But I would really appreciate if one of the middle/high stake players read it and gave me some advice.

I'll start off with graphs. These are my graphs of NL25 and NL10 since winning the $400 in the tourny to get me rolled for NL25.
http://img182.imageshack.us/img182/7712/nl1025atapril04qk7.jpg
Around hand 5,000 is where i dropped back to NL10.
Here are my stats for the two levels:
http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/6572/statsatapril4ay3.jpg

Yeah... so basically you can see what has happened. I'm sure the swing was to do with running VERY bad, but the flatlining for 5k or so hands at NL10, I'm sure, can atleast be contributed somewhat to me played like a sped.... So i'm going to post a ton of hands here, and hopefully in some of them you can point out if i could've saved money, earned money, etc. etc.

(edited in spoilers)
Hand 1: + Show Spoiler +

Hand 2: This ones a really common situation for me with AK, anything wrong about my play here?
+ Show Spoiler +

Hand 3:
+ Show Spoiler +

Hand 4: Do i call this river? do i fold earlier in the hand at some point?
+ Show Spoiler +

Hand 5:
+ Show Spoiler +

Hand 6: Combo draw played wrong?
+ Show Spoiler +

Hand 7:
+ Show Spoiler +

Hand 8:
+ Show Spoiler +

Hand 9:
+ Show Spoiler +

Hand 10:
+ Show Spoiler +

Hand 11:
+ Show Spoiler +

Hand 12:
+ Show Spoiler +

I think a lot of the hands are coolerish, but i refrained from posting any hands where my money went in good and i just got an obvious suckout or pre-flop allins with QQ+ in which i lose.

Once again, any ammount of help would be appreciated.

$80 NL5 stack? by rockman255, April 04

so i sit down with this guy at a full table and stayed there for a few hours while it quieted down, played some heads up, and every time another person would come we would just bust them and go back to heads up. he was pretty loose. so i figured something like this might happen.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/5453ea5f6ea743d9b324e7744ba524ad.jpg

the 2 main hands that led to this were:

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/417916

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/417912

although i did hold monster hands both times, you can see it was more the fact that the other player was willing to call for no apparent reason, than the fact that i had big hands.

so i have no explanation for this strange occurence, other than i got lucky. back to grinding.

April run goot!? by Fayth, April 03

I've ran like god so far, pretty much destroying everyone! I'm hoping the rest of the month will be just as good, I'd like it if I could make another 40k and then cash out ~20k to buy a new car, probably something like a used BMW, if you guys have any suggestions for that, do not hesitate!

I also had qualified for some tournament in Austria, so I'm fully sponsored (2k Euro buy in +1k euro for travel expenses)and it's on may 10-11th, hoping to have someone to accompany me cuz going alone in a country where most people speaks german would be quite.... scary? xD So if anyone here is willing to accompany me just send me a PM!

neway here's the graph for april so far:
