apparently god/jesus/optimus prime answered my prayers cause I managed to take myself to close to break even in just two sessions today!
When losing you always doubt if you are even running bad or just playing like a retard, well today I realized I felt releif and disbelief everytime my hand didnt get sucked out on which points to the fact that I ran pretty terrible yesterday. Anyways, I ran goodie today both at HU and 6-max and it feels great.
Probably gonna play another session or two later today since Im aiming for 2k hands a day minimum.
Now all I need is a life heater and I will be fine. Ive taken alot of bad beats the last few days. I failed an exam, meaning that I on top of all the shit I have to redo for school(including another exam, a movie script and other bullshit) I have another exam to worry about. I also got ANOTHER fucking bacterial infection in my throat so I have to be on antibiotics for 10 days meaning no drinking and just plain boredom.
Im getting really sick of school, most of it is soooo easy but 90% of the things we learn feel completely useless. Note that by useless I dont mean the standard "when is this information ever going to be useful??". I normally enjoy learning just about anything even if its things I will have no use for to make money/chicks/life etc but man, the time I have wasted sitting at lectures learning absolutely nothing with some teacher just yapping away about nothing for hours and hours.
With everything feeling meaningless and being cakewalk easy I still manage to fail alot of classes just because I cant be fucking bothered with all this nonsese. Its just taking up time away from what I want to do, which is mainly playing poker.
I cant wait for the summer to finally get here, god I will enjoy it imensely!
Ahhh just want to start off by saying i think Keanu and myself are the only people in this entire universe who even give serra any credit at all. Serra is one of my fav fighters. He's like the only really good bjj fighter that i know who has incredible power in his hands an in his clinch (bj being the other i guess).
Do i think serra's win over gsp was a fluke? Somewhat. I mean gsp got caught and serra finished him. That being said the fight is not a 10 to 1 like they had it last time. Serra has incredible tools and baring a huge spinningbackfast to the brain serra is nearly impossible to finish. He's got so many tools to finish fights but he's going against a guy who's basically not from earth. But what's funny is mentally serra is far far far more prepared then gsp is. Here's the deal. WHen GSP first fought hughes, he was dominating him and was never in trouble until he went for the kimura then when they fought again gsp already knew he could take hughes he just had to be careful. Against serra he was never in an advantage. Before serra caught him with a huge shot serra was already landing a few right straights. SO i think gsp could be mindjobbed about this. While serra knows he's the underdog again but doesn't care.
Another thing to mention is while GSP dominates wrestlers does he dominate bjj artists? I'll say this once. From there back serra is like a shitton way more dangerous then trigg, hughes, sherk, basically everyone. The only person who comes close to serra on his back is mayhem and even then serra is better fitted to take on gsp cuz of his power.
This fight ends with gsp finishing serra by strikes or a decision. Serra has a chance to win this, but gsp is just so inhuman that if he shows up he basically can beat anyone. There is no fighter like gsp.. maybe a crocop or bj penn that if they show up 100% they are 2nd to none.
Travis Lutter Vs. Rich Franklin
This fight is really great. I'm very excited about this because i have yet to see someone with a very good ground game battle Rich. Travis will get the takedown at one point unless Rich pulls a boring long game and then we'll see if Rich can survive. I think Rich vs Jason was a good measure on this one. Rich stuffed all of jason's takedowns and never got to the ground. I think Rich has good tkd defense but agains lutter i don't think he can hold him off forver. Although Rich has a far far far superior gas tank so i think Rich wins this late 3 round or decision.
Nathan Quarry Vs. Kalib Starnes
Kalib is a better fighter then nate plain and simple. But Kalib is also a crybaby who gives up super easy while Nathan can get his nose broke and still stalked Rich. If kalib can't dominate him early then nathan may squeeze a decision out because Kalib might weep his way into a submission 3rd round.
Charles McCarthy Vs. Michael Bisping
McCarthy has a very good ground game. That being said he has the mental focus of a potatoe and bisping eats potatoes so like yeah.. bisbing by frying mcarthy's head and eating it with ketchup. Bisping shoudl win this but McCarthy will look good on the ground early.
Mark Bocek Vs. Mac Danzig

Joe Doerksen Vs. Jason MacDonald
Jason has a long body, long reach, good skills and yet loses to everyone who's got an ounce of talent. This fight is gonna be boring at beast Jason wins by triangle.

I think this will be the sleeper fight of the night. Both guys have great skills and finish fights. I think this will be back and forth with Jason winning by strikes.
Ed Herman Vs. Demian Maia
Rofl this is like me vs pooruser/straate/CTS/etc/etc basically every single good high end player all using their power together in HU. It starts with me posting my blinds and ends with me getting my ass run over and me waking up the next day with an empty roll and a sore ass. Yet somehow my nails were done and my clothes were ironed. PU is such a hero.
In any case Ed is a good wrestler and can bang who trains with quest. Not bad he also got subbed by jason when he had top position. Maia has beaten both JACARE AND GONZAGA IN BJJ AND IS THE BEST 185 GRAPPLER IN THE WORLD WHO IS JUST AS GOOD AT JUDO AS BJJ MEANING HIS CLINCH AND TAKEDOWNS ARE PRETTY DAM GOOD AS WELL. EDITED. JACARE PROBABLY BETTER BUT MAIA IS GODLY!

Goulet is the most recognizable can in the history of mma. Kuni by can crushing.
Ok so now that's done. To talk about something that i got into a conversation with Naz. I was telling him how footwork is a HUGE reason why some fighters are super good and can do things that other fighters can't.
Anderson silva has probably the best footwork and probably head movement of any fighter in mma. It's a reason he hits everyone whenever he wants and everyone misses him.
If you watch him vs leben. Leben has average footwork (probably at the level of matt hughes) and watch as anderson is baiting him and bouncing to a spot before lebens fist even gets there and anderson is already throwing a shot. Also anderson has long arms so if he's ever out of position he just throws a long jab and it keeps everyone at bay.
The only other fighters who have footwork who are probably close to anderson's level are Jens pulver and Gomi. Igor is also on that list but he's retired now. Notice the three guys i mentioned have retared power. The If you want you can try this.. do a one two. Which means throw a jab and follow up with a right. The correct way to throw the right is to twist your body to get your back into the punch. Try to hit something and see how strong your right is. Now start over and just try to hit the same target as hard as you can with just your right hand. You may not notice it but you've stepped into the punch with your right foot. 50$ that when you did the one/two you didn't step in with your right foot. That's an example of footwork. Stepping in gives you additional power. It's slower and really hard to do with a standard one/two but that's why some guys can generate power and others can't. Guys like anderson/gomi/pulver/igor will explode and step in at the rigth times and deliver crushing blows. Other times they just keep the shots compact, but they both know when to deliver what shot. The shot that gomi put on azeredo is perfect footwork. Steps in on both shots and it's a reason he knocks him into a coma.
Now the problem is if you step in too hard when you throw a right you put yourself off balance if you miss and you could get in bad trouble. Which is why most mma fighters try not to overthrow shots. You probably look a sherk and go "god he's so huge he should have retarded power!" he has great footwork but he's always doing it to setup takedowns and defend against takedowns so all his strikes are compact and fast. He doesn't want to put his full body behind it because it puts him out of position.
Winging a huge shot can generate power but if you step in you put your body into it then you add weight to the punch giving you knockout power. Look at guys like Melvin guilard who generate huge power. They knock people out cold. But they also are getting taken down left and right because against a good mmaer they miss one shot and they are hugely out of position.
Guys like anderson/gomi only use power shots when the opportunity presents itself. They use good technical strikes to wear down on an opponent. Then when the opponent is running away, is out of position, or wahtever. Step in and BAM. Huge shot. But they aren't constantly flinging monster shots all the time like a guilard.
The reason i wanted to bring this up is because a lot of people see certain fighters and doesn't understand why he can't hit harder or why this guy hits REALLY hard. It's all in technique/footwork combined with strength. I bet you a lot that sherk can hit harder then jens pulver on a bag if he wanted to but pulver will ko more guys because he's got better footwork and will be in better positions to hit someone and sherk doesn't look for the standing knockouts.
Other fighters who have good footwork for striking or grappling. GSP, BJ penn, Rampage(so good), Tim Sylvia (yes haha), Andre Arlovski, Kid yamamoto, to name a few.
It's also not a suprise that those guys are some of the best fighters in the world.

During the week I wasn't able to play a real session, only today. Every time I started to play somebody came and disturbed me so I just played some tours, but didn't went well. Finally I could play tomorrow a 2 hours long session, but almost throw my chair out of the window. I was up to 170+$ then a guy gave me a freaking suckout: He 3betted me preflop, and I called him with TT. Flop came QTx rainbow. Villain donkled the flop, and obv I reraised him. He gone allin, and obv again I called. Turn came J, river came K. Villain had AK, a gutshot on the flop, and possibly tried to bluff me out. Thanks, -1bi. I was steaming like hell, because I felt I was playing the hand well. After that hand I grinded back 10 bucks, but I was so disappointed that I just finished playing for this week.

Well the good news is I'm back to NL100 and am playing solid winning poker there! But let's not get into that yet... first pics. My GF and I have decided to get a new smaller camera that we can take with us when we go out, cause the camera we have now is massive and fancy (my GF is pro photographer rite) so we can't really take it partying or anything for fear of losing it and the pain of carrying it. Once we get the new cam I should have pics more consistently, and of cooler stuff. For now we'll just have to make due with these!
We went out to Boulder again last weekend cause the weather was awesome and I just wanted to be outside. We hit up a park and had a Chipotle picnic, then laid out in the sun and read for a bit. Got a call from my friends and they met up with us at the park and we hung for a bit tossing the frisbee, smoking cigars and bullshitting.
And something occurred to me - if we hadn't grown up together there's no way we'd all be hanging out. Just looking at the 4 of us we were such an odd group. Know how you normally see friends hanging out that all look pretty much the same? Like these guys:

Ok, moving on to poker! I built the BR up to a little under $2,400 and decided to take a NL100 shot yesterday. It went ok despite running bad and I made a half a buyin. Got overconfident though and after a break I sat down and got into the most horrendous session I've had in a long time. I quickly lost 5 buyins, first to bad luck and then to spew... eventually got out of the downward spiral and won most of it back and came out with a 2 buyin loss for the end of the night. Felt very disillusioned and went to bed.
This morning I woke up and tried again but made 2 stupid mistakes and came out with a 1 buyin loss. I left the tables really quick after seeing that I was about to tilt. I took a break and spent some time talking to myself and realized that I was way too anxious. I wasn't calm, I wasn't patient, and I wasn't playing my A+ game at ALL. I was just anxiously waiting for the next hand to play that might make me money. I'd totally lost my cool.
So I got in touch with a friend and he saved me. He was kind enough to sweat me for 1.5 hours and I got a feel for the flow of NL100 and how to handle the new aggression. We took in a buyin and a half and I felt great. Then I did another solo session later tonight and won another buyin despite losing a buyin in a marginal spot right at the beginning of the session.
This means that I've had 3 winning sessions, 2 losing ones, and my BR is exactly where it was when I first started my shot, lol. Well, that's not totally true, I'm up to $2,437 now... so slightly up in my BR, haha. But the important thing is that I'm feeling confident about how to play NL100 now. I've adjusted my game from what I was doing @ NL50 and feel like I can keep playing solid winning poker @ NL100 AND I have a big enough BR for it. If I run really bad and drop below 2K I'll regrind NL50. But I think I will be able to play well enough to at least break even and most likely win... now I just need that heater which has eluded me for the last 2 months!
And we can't forget the standard routine of putting pictures to the words of my poker story!

Just broke up with my gf of 15 months 2 weeks ago... not good, but not bad. I kind of have decided that I want a girl with super huge tits anyway. Like seriously, I have decided that the one thing that gets me going more than anything is big boobies. I don't even care much about the face at all. As for poker.... its bad. I feel bleak about it. I have extended myself too far, I cant keep playing poker hard and doing well in school, its just too much, I hit the wall. I don't think I am going to play poker until school is over in 20 days. I need to learn to beat 400 nl for 4-5 pt bb over 100k hands this summer though for sure. I am also going to purchase a seadoo for myself, gonna cost at least 5k but its worth it.

I've been playing like 29/24 lately which is probably a bit too aggressive but I'm comfortable and I like it.
Here are some interesting hands I've played recently:

Given player dynamics I felt he could be raising very lightly on the flop given this is bvb and all that, but his small raise size was weird. I decided to 3b since I didn't want to float oop and I also have the Jack hi, but I gain some sd value on the turn. On the turn it's weird he bets such a committing amount but at the same time he didn't shove over my flop 3b. I figured if he had a very strong hand then he probably raises small to induce (or raises big), and if he induced I should've seen a shove. These sort of reasons lead me to believe he has a draw and so since I actually have a pair I can comfortably c/ai. This is prob a 4/5 on the spew scale.

This guy had been very active and potting instead of making normal sized bets on early streets, so I decided to call down since I did have 2nd pair. The board gets progressively worse and the worst possible card comes on the river, where he shoves. My initial thinking was that someone like this should be afraid I was drawing to a flush (not that I would ever really play a fd this way), and if he had only a King anyway he probably wouldn't shove. I figured if he even had AK he probably wouldn't shove, and that his hand was either a flush draw or air. I figured if he had a FD he may not have potted the turn he could've checked, so I thought the possibility of him having a fd was diminished. Later I decided my call wasn't that great and that someone as maniacal as this could've easily bet here with Ax or two pair or whatever. 5/5 on spew scale in hindsight

I'd been 36/30 on the table when it was still full, and generally just very active. This guy had been staying out of my way until he hit a set on me earlier and my combo draw missed. When it got HU we started going at it a lot more and when he c/rs so small on this flop when we're deep, I just didn't think he had to have a big hand. I don't think he does this with a ten so he doesn't have AT or anything like that but I think he has hands like 87, a small fd, air (except until he calls my 3bet) etc. here a lot. On the turn, it's such a godlike scare card and we're so deep and when he just can't conceivably have a good hand I decide to fire. If he had called I would've put him on exactly some sort of draw and probably would've shoved river given safe cards obv. 5/5 spew scale.

Same villain as the above J7o hand, we def. had a very very aggro dynamic going on and this hand occurred a couple hands after J7o. When he 4bets me I didn't want to call but I also didn't want to fold either. I 5b intending to get it in (it's possible he even folds a hand like TT/AKo that he decided to 4b anyway), but he just calls. At this point he has like QQ+, but I really have no choice and just stick the rest in. Interesting that he had 99, and made this play. He even tanked for a while so it's not like he was ready to snap get it in on any non K, A flop, I think it just came down to him being frustrated. Thank god I hit my outs though. solid 11/5 on the spew scale.
