| | Get into good habits by tloapc, May 22
With things starting to slow back down to normal it feels like now would be a good time to start a blog back up.
I moved again recently. Getting real tired of moving. I've moved now a total of 6 times since getting out of the Army; which was in late July '06.
Luckily it's all been worth it.
As of right now I live in Jacksonville Florida and I love it here. I really missed warm weather. Even with a black car w/ black leather seats this is where I ought to be. So if any of you live or know this area, drop me a line.
Also, for those of you that haven't read any previous blogs of mine or just don't remember...
not to long ago, I attempted to quit smoking.
Well, I have to say, with great joy, that..
THE SMOKING BITCH OF A BEAST IS DEAD!!!
http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/4d15ea931b8ee0258e2634857901fc32.jpg
It took me longer than I'd of liked but I am done with it and I can safely say no more smoking for me. (unless I get called back up haha)
As for poker, suffice it to say in a nutshell that I left myself $31 at PS, and $38 on UB in cashing out for my move.
I was going to but decided not to redeposit. Instead I decided to freeroll² my leftovers and rebuild from scratch while getting into a habit of blogging or logging down info besides just PT about my sessions including even the non winning days. So whenever I blog about a session, I want to post at least the biggest pot I won as well as the biggest pot I lost of that current session/blog with hopefully some thoughts about it.
I also made a new database today to go with this.
Even tho I decided this today, I mettled around some the last few days/week, knocking up my PS account to $97 and my UB account to $272.
So how it's gone with starting over, as of today:
@UB:
Played a $50 10k Guarantee/bounty and went out the first hand w/ AdQc on a KdJd6d flop with two others all in, one guy having KK, the other JJ and me getting no love. Game over.
BR now = $217
@PS:
I had forgotten how much I <3 PS until I had 10 tables up. I'll probably be spending more time there than UB.
Biggest pot lost
This was the 3rd if not 4th time villain overbetshoves a flop vs me like this. I had folded every time prior, and figured this was a semi-decent time to look him up even tho I wouldn't be surprised if I was behind as he was a 21/0.
Biggest pot won
mixed up my set play
this hand illustrates why these limits are so ez
BR now = $191
chart:
http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/76e6337379a5648e006a8a273c3be9d4.jpg
that's it for today

| | Poker/Stake Summer 08 by sooon2b, May 22
So I am bored and decided to set very specific goals and guidelines for poker this summer. Here it is:
Start with $1k at 50NL – Complete 40 Buyins at 200NL before Fall Semester begins
Make 40 Buyins at each Level before moving up
50NL=$2k
100NL=$4k
200NL=$8k
400NL=$16k
Each time I complete a level, I will have 30-35 Buyins for the next level
Stop/Loss set at 20% of Buyins at each 10 Buyin point
30 Buyins – 6 Buyin S/L
40 Buyins – 8 Buyin S/L
50 Buyins – 10 Buyin S/L
etc...
Each time I move up a level, I start at a 6 Buyin Stop/Loss – Every 10 Buyins I make at that level, my Stop/Loss increases 2 Buyins.
Not too sure about the Stop/Loss bit, but it seems relatively safe so I guess ill just go with it unless someone has better suggestions.
As far as tournaments go, I am looking for a summer staking deal. The tournaments I am willing to play:
Any freezeouts $50+
Any rebuys $11+
Deal would be standard 50/50 with makeup.
FTP: Readmyline
Stars: sooon2b
I have done reasonably well for my past backers (Sappy123/Sapster, rnbsalsa)
Like I said, I would prefer this to be for the duration of the summer. If anyone is interested, shoot me a PM. If anyone feels the need to flame, please don't waste your time.
Thanks for reading,
Pat
P.S - I am roughly through 20 buyins at 50NL since May 9th

Basically someone claimed from my stats im a nit,I play like 16/12,or 17/14 if too nitty table...So if I'm a nit from these stats fuck me sideways.
I think these are common TAG-ish stats at FR...Oh and people if you're running bad buy PT3,ever since I got it I'm not doomswitched anymore,feels so good too.
Also that story that Tasteless posted on TL concerning Rekrul is fucking sick,unbelivable he can make such amount of cash in such a brief time...I guess Ket's right about "those who know don't tell and those who tell don't know".

| | Need Stars Money - Trusted LPers please help! by LilDeano89, May 21
Hi all,
Finally cleared my FTP $400 bonus and want to return to Stars ASAP.
However, FTP has these retarded withdrawal options, where to get a check you have to send in all this verification shit, which I think could take a while, plus the time it takes for the check to arrive in Australia
Anyways, I was wondering if anyone trusted here on LP could help me out by transferring me $1k+ of Stars money in exchange for my FTP cash?
Anyone who is willing to help please PM me,
Thanks,
Dean

looks like i'm a long term loser, i'm the one you ppl make money on, funny thing is i make a living playing poker, and if not some winnings in MTTs, rakeback, bonuses on many sites i'd have much less. i chose to play poker professionally 1,5 year ago, those are my hands from last ~8 months. i even played w/ coach, played w/ friends watching and it looks like im playing better when someones watching me, asking questions why i play like this or i just tell what im thinking while playing. it looks like im not thinking while playing, not putting ppl on ranges of hands, not thinking about what can he have, what kind of hand he plays this or that way. it's time for a change or i should go back to uni, cause it looks im wasting my time. it was always easy to play and win and i spent so small amount of time learning, i know i have money for bills and living and it's not motivating me to do something w/ my game, i like playing and winning but it looks like i just play my cards like some fish, what i learned it was some from CR, some from friends, but when i play i don't make an effort to think hard and use my intelligence to win as much as possible.
it's time for a change, or i'll end up working in mcdonalds some day ...

| | Blinds by capaneo, May 21
Hi,
Ive been playing poker for over two years now. During this time Ive been playing exclusively at Pokerstars only. Even though everyone keeps saying that games at Pokerstars are alot harder than other sites I'm still a loyal customer to PokerStars. Last year Ive acquired over 800k VPP so it wouldn't be an exaggeration if we say that I'm among your most valuable customers.
All that being said I want to request as one of your most loyal players that starting July1st 2008 I don't have to post blinds while Im playing cash games.
Regards,
Sina
Hello Sina,
Thank you for your email.
I am afraid that we would be unable to accommodate your request as such.
Let me provide you with a brief explanation that I hope will clarify the
concept of game blinds to you. SB stands for Small Blind; BB for Big Blind.
Games begin with some forced wager over which players compete. In any
poker game, the pot needs to be started with an amount of money. If there
was no money in the game to start, there'd be no incentive to play. A
blind bet is a forced bet that must be made by a player before he even
sees his cards.
The player to the left of the dealer places the small blind into the pot.
The player to the left of the small blind (two places to the left of the
dealer) places the big blind into the pot. Both of these blind bets are
mandatory, and are made before the cards are even dealt. The big blind is
equal to the fixed betting limit for the first round. The size of the
small blind is half of the big blind.
Please refer to the following link for a general description of rules and
basic concepts of our games here at PokerStars:
http://www.pokerstars.com/pokerbasics.html
Those rules apply to all our customers, thus we are unable to make
exceptions to those rules. Let me know in case you need further
assistance.
Regards,
Juan

| | GGGOOOAAALLLL!!! by k2o4, May 21
http://www1.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/1424588/2/istockphoto_1424588_soccer_goal_elation.jpg
Imagine a Mexican announcer screaming "GGGOOOAALLL!"
Last night I realized that I set myself some unrealistic goals in the past and have constantly felt like shit ever since cause I am so far from achieving them. Time to set some new ones.
See, I look up to people like Jamie (MidiaN), Corwin (Myth), vvvq and people like them who have gone from BW to amazing poker careers. I try my hardest to learn from them and I am inspired by what they have achieved. I see how Jamie was able to quickly move up level after level and become a solid 5/10 reg in less than a year and think "if he can do it I can too." That lead me to set the goal of playing 5/10 by the end of 2008 after starting full time poker in January. I thought it would be very easy to achieve, but here I am hitting a wall @ NL100 and constantly dropping down to NL50 or NL25. Why?
It became obvious to me last night that the guys I look up to have something I don't - a natural talent for poker. It's probably similar to the natural skill that allowed them to become top BW players. I can't lay specifics to what is different, but it's clear that they have a natural skill that I don't. I think I have some natural poker skill, and it's larger than a good portion of the people playing poker out there, but it's small compared to what Jamie, Corwin, vvvq and so on have. My natural skill probably gives me an edge up to NL200 at the most.
This means I have to make up for it somewhere else. I believe that I can achieve the same outcome as those guys did and get up to being a 5/10 reg. But my path won't be the same as theirs. It's going to take a lot longer, and I'll have to do a lot more work to be as good as they are. But this is where my assets come into play. All my life I've always faced the same situation - I am naturally better at activities (sports, BW, so on) than the average joe who shows up to play, but I hit a wall where my natural skill stops while others keep going. I've dealt with it by accepting where my natural skill can get me and working hard to compensate for it. I'm persistent, determined, hard working and driven, and that allows me to do the extra work necessary to continue to improve beyond what my natural skill allows.
I think part of what got me to realize why I've been hitting this wall in poker was re-watching the movie Gattaca. If you haven't seen it the basic idea is that in the future pregnancy is controlled and the babies are genetically customized to the parents desires. They can control how tall/short the baby will be, hair color, eliminate potential medical problems, increase their IQ and physical ability, and so on. Babies that aren't born with these modifications but are instead done naturally are doomed for life because the new way of determining who is better for a job or task is by doing a blood test that reveals all of your qualities. The main character is born naturally and wants a job that only modified people are able to get, and he has to work harder than any of them to get the same thing.
His drive and ability to achieve great things despite his genetic inferiority reminded me of myself and my poker problems. To get what I want in poker I can't rely on my natural god given talent, I have to work my ass off. And I can't get discouraged when I see people like Jamie killing the game so quickly and easily because I'm not him and I don't have the same starting ground he does. I just have to work even harder knowing that I will get there eventually.
With all that said, I'm revising my goal. My goal right now is to be destroying NL200 by the end of the year, at the same level and with the same confidence that I currently beat NL25. I'd also like to be rolled for NL400 and starting to play there as my main limit, but knowing that I can always play NL200 for easy profit cause I have huge BR for it and am skilled enough to easily kill it.
I think this is a very realistic and achievable goal for me. I think having this in my sights instead of 5/10 will allow me to develop at the right pace instead of pushing myself too fast based on the results other people more naturally skilled than me had, and then inducing myself to tilt cause I'm not getting where I want to be.
For the rest of this month I plan to play NL25/NL50 and most likely won't check what my BR is. I haven't checked it in about 3.5 days and I've played at least 5k hands over that time of NL50/NL25. I'm definitely not going to try NL100 again till at least 2.5k, and probably will wait till 3k. I'm going to spend my time on NL25/NL50 focusing on identifying my basic weaknesses and leaks in my ABC game and trying to plug them. I'm playing 12-16 tables right now which has been fun and is nice cause I get myself into so many situations so quickly that I get a lot of practice in a short period of time. Since I'm playing very standard TAG ABC I'm mostly reinforcing things I already knew, which I think I needed to do. I've started getting so fancy that I'm becoming my own worst enemy @ NL100.
That's the plan. Let's hope it works!
