relying on heaters... by whamm!, June 09

I feel really down lately with regards to my poker. It seems the past few months I've been relying exclusively on heaters to win, when I hit downswings and such, it usually doesnt do that much damage because I don't allow myself to tilt too much, so I end up just losing a decent amount or breakeven for the week/month. I play pretty decent for FR, but definitely not that great obv, i want to improve by doing more stuff than ABC/smallball poker, but it seems the games have been so tough as of late that pstars FR is no longer that profitable for me. so far on average ive won 30bi at 100nl on the average for 5 months now, it's really great if I'm confident enough to say that I own it, but tbh I really don't feel that way at all, heaters saved my ass all this time and I hate to say it. Cashouts have been raping my progress is all i can say and I'm going to withdraw again now just to punish myself asdfadsdfgh

winrate sux arse btw.

Tired of NLH by Jonvee, June 09

I think one of the reasons I'm getting bored with poker is that I'm not learning anything new grinding these micro stakes.

Instead of playing bad, I instead have decided to challenge and motivated myself and actually try to learn HORSE.

Monday - Hold'em NLH/L
Tues - Omaha Hi
Wed - R
Thurs - S
Fri - E

I figure it's going to take me about a month to get in decent shape again.. so might as well learn something instead of playing like a Robot.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to lose horribly in the hi/lo games. I only know how to play HI POKER..which sucks..

I have PTH, PTO, now all i need is PTstud.
I'll get it later...right now I just need to understand the basics and stuff. I read some of Chip Reeses' section on Stud, gonna read Daut's article as well.

Anyway should be good for my game. I probably won't be making as much money...but hopefully in the long run I'll be able to expand my game selection. NLH games are getting better and better - which is why I'm gonna study my ass off and learn at LEAST HORSE. I tried reading draw poker in SS1....I dunno I got bored cause it's DRAAAWW....

Anyway what kind of bankroll would you need for these games?

- well LH and NLH I pretty much know the general guidelines.

- PLO I use double cause apparently the STD is double.
- STUD: ??
- Stud Hi/lo: ??
- Omaha hi/lo (it has go be lower than LH)
- Razz: ?

Anyway some general advice would be nice.

Lifetime Graphs + Story! by donc, June 09

Hello friends, this is my first blog attempt thanks for joining me. My poker story starts with play money in 2006, I was up to around 4 or 5 million. I then found out you could actually sell play chips for real money(still baffles me). I got $12.50 per million and my real money journey began and ended that same night after playing 5nl and getting down to $24 I decided to go to 25nl and proceeded to get it all in with a flush draw and then busto!

I had gotten my first taste of real money and it was pretty exciting although I was crushed going busto. A few months later after playing play money and working on my game there(lol bad idea) I deposited $50 of my own money! I knew this time I could beat the game. I played some 5.50 sit and go's cause I had made most of my play money playing big sit and go's. This time I lasted three days before going busto. Real money games seemed like such a huge barrier that I couldn't overcome. I didn't lose hope though. A few months after that I decided to try one last time with another $50. This time things went well. I started beating 5.50 sit and go's on stars. I adjusted to real money finally and got my roll up to about $520 grinding 5.50 sng's mainly. I cashed out $500 and my account sat there with $20 in it for about 2 years.

Fast forward to about 4 months ago. I come back to play some. Try my hand at 5.50 sng's again since that was my cash cow before. Variance hits me pretty hard and I'm only rolled for 3 games with $20! I place first with my last buy-in to put me around $23. Then I get all the way down to $2. What is my option? 5nl here I come!!! I find this super aggressive player and get it in good against him and double up through him twice, and bust him once more. I'm at $13 and I call it a night. I start reading up on poker online. I remember looking at lp.net back in 2006 a few times and come back here and take a look around again, it's a nice poker community I think. I grind my $13 up to around $60 pretty fast at 5nl. Then I jump on to .02/.05 and do well. Then I try 10nl and barely get 2.5 bb/100!(it's cursed!) I get my roll to $250 and take a shot at 25PL, put in 23k hands there for 8.30 bb/100! It went very well. Their are many more people that play NL over PL so I feel like I need to switch to 25NL so when I move up their will be more tables to play. I've put in 25k hands at 25NL and am just beating it for 4 bb/100.

Got my roll up to $1400 and took at a shot at 50nl. First night it goes well and I'm up $56. Second night I lose $130 in 5 minutes against a rivered full house, set over set, and a two pair catch on the turn vs my KK. It was brutal but seems pretty standard looking at others hand histories. It was just my turn to get the doomswitch I guess. Been playing 25nl since, slowly building the courage and the roll to take on 50nl again.

I just got Poker Tracker 3 and had poker stars send me my lifetime hand histories. Boy did I make some discoveries! I suck at tournaments/run bad. I'm guessing it's mostly suck though, just take a look at this graph! I've only entered them with money I've won from cash games and sitngo's and just here and there over the years. Looks like I found my biggest leak! No more tourney's for me. I hope you get a good laugh out of this, I sure did.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/7b1b23347ab32789a867fa3a8fca4e5b.jpg

Cash games have been a different story, thank goodness.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/03976c6bd24cca96b7f6524923b701ca.jpg

I am really looking to improve my game if anyone has any suggestions. Hope you enjoyed the read and the tourney graph.

Weekly update by Cooperstown, June 09

Been playing a ton of SNG's and they are going real well. I also won a $215 ticket in a 5400 satelite which was a real nice bankroll boast. Lately I've been play 25nl 6 max, mostly short sessions either until I dont feel like playing anymore or until I feel like I'm not playing my best. Seems to be working out well, haven't tilted at all and I've been sticking to limits I'm rolled for which is a nice change of piece. I also got an interview set up for next Monday so hopefully I'll be getting a job as an underwriter real soon. The pay is decent at first but scales fast once you get deeper into the field and the benefits are absolutely amazing.

NYC Pics + SW Vid by k2o4, June 09

Hey all. I've been outta the scene for the past 2 weeks. Mainly cause I started I hit a bad few days and couldn't mentally take it anymore, freaked out, tilted a bit, cashed out a bunch, and decided that my attempt to play full time poker was not succeeding. So I swallowed my pride and went and got a part time job that makes me enough to cover the bills. I'll be doing 3 days a week at the new job and 2 days playing poker. I think that knowing that my bills will be covered will allow me to play poker and build my BR with a lot less pressure, which I think I crack under.

Kind of sad cause I started out great and then have been fighting hard for the last few months. After this last downswing I thought about it and realized that I had played my best poker when I wasn't scared to lose the money and had no need to make any money. But in the last few months I needed to make enough for rent and I was already on a kind of low BR as it was, so I was always stressing out whenever I lost, especially if I had any sort of downswing. My goal is to rebuild my BR will working this job and take another shot at full time once I have 10k and am confident in playing 1/2 the same way I'm confident playing NL25 (IE it is a cake walk).

I also went to NYC for a few days with the GF. It was her first time there and she was going for work so I wasn't supposed to go, but at the last minute we decided I'd come along since I wanted to be with her for her first time in the big city. We had a lot of fun, did a bunch of sight seeing and eating good food in Manhattan. I put most of the pics in the spoiler so go ahead and click if you're interested.

http://premium1.uploadit.org/IAElitesquad//DSC_0827.jpg
Me and the GF in Central Park at a cool lake we found.

CLICK SPOILER BELOW FOR MORE PICS

+ Show Spoiler +

We hit up some places that we don't have pics of, like Grand Central, Harlem, Union Square, Battery Park, Bryant Park and a bunch of other spots. Was a whirlwind tour and a great time. But I was glad to get back to CO with the open skies and fresh air.

Oh and here's a fucking hilarious video that I found. I posted it in my last blog but no one seemed to watch it, and I think that's a shame. So here it is again!

On other news I'm still doing well on my no cigarette challenge to myself. Started May 20th and ends June 20th. Haven't had a cig since May 20th and have been nice and strong in resisting em. The funny thing is that once I decided I was not gonna smoke anymore, nearly all the desire disappeared. I have only had a few faint urges when things spark off a memory of good times smoking, but they go away very quickly and easily. Of course I'm doing this cold turkey, no special gums or patches. But I was never really addicted, just a casual for fun smoker. So I guess that makes it easier. I have a hard time how anyone could be addicted. If I smoke too much I don't get addicted, I want to stay away from them completely.

I am still trying to diet a bit - basically eat healthier food and eat smaller portions. Going pretty well so far. It's funny seeing how I can eat half as much food as I used to and still be full. I was eating so much more than I needed too cause... well it tasted good. But it wasn't doing any good for my body. I'm still doing a lot more exercise with pushups and situps in there every day along with stretching and some yoga. Adding walks in the park and runs in the park as well, plus today I just restarted skateboarding. Felt weird being the old 24 yr old guy on a board. And to top it off I suck now. If you're an older guy skating it seems to me like you should be good, so I'm kind of embarrassed out there. That's why I went at like 8:30am to the skate park cause I know none of the kids will be around and I can re-learn in private!

That's about all for now. Gonna go get ready for work! Btw, it's actually really nice having a real job again after doing poker for 4.5 months. But I'll go into all of that in a later blog post.

Alles aus Liebe! by DustySwedeDude, June 09

http://www.sorethumbsonline.com/comics/st20080609.gif

This month goes kinda decent, except that I lost a couple of BI's more then expected today but that shit happens. Now that I'm home with my parents over the summer I'll play a shitload and work out a lot. I'm out of shape like hell, so I need fix that asap. I'll try to play like 3k hands/day at least 5 days/week and also play a lot of MTT's. I feel that it's easier for me to play long sessions with like 4-5 cash tables and then some stupid ass donkament. Also, I've discovered Die Toten Hosen. They've got some really good songs and everything gets a bit more fun when someone tries to be serious while talking kraut-language.

It's so good that I'll cheer for Germany as soon as Sweden is out of that silly soccer donkament.

Long Break by T8Suited, June 09

Took a 1-week break after losing like 10 buys at each of NL50 and NL100. Solution: Make them back at higher stakes.

I recorded a nice $700+ today at 200NL:
1) Buy in 60BB deep
2) Pay close attention
3) Watch out for regulars replacing fishes and leave shark-infested tables

Hands
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/462691 KK vs nitty squeezer
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/462690 87d really regret this one -- opponent was loose and not overly aggressive, so it was more likely that he had a better made hand than he picked up extra outs
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/462689 AK dude snapped this preflop and showed his furiosity by 3-betting my next 3 or 4 opens (before I swallowed my pride and left with his money)
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/462688 T8 cute bluff for a nice little pot
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/462683 AA glad I didn't miss value after flatting preflop
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/462682 AK TPTK successful correct fold
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/462681 JJ couldn't put this weirdo on any hand, but I had an overpair so I shoved

So hot by NeillyJQ, June 09

So i just moved into a my new place and i live on the 4th floor, where my computer is etc. Too bad its been 90+ degrees everyday so i haven't been able to put in much time grinding.

I put in an hour and lost half a buy-in earlier at nl50, had a set over set and set vs tpw/fd and the fd got there. w/e

So I'm moving down to nl25 tomorrow til my roll hits 2k.
I'll be playing hu at nl50 as well sometimes, only when i really feel like playing hu and when i feel im playing my best.

I've been working hard to get the degen out of me, I feel that I've made alot of progress lately, but still have far to go.

I'm going to Atlantic City June 23-26th for a few days of fishy games at the Taj. I'm pretty excited for that, I'm going to hit up a few smaller bi tournies as well ($50-$150)

If all goes well during those few days, I plan to stay a week and leave the following monday, so we'll see about that, hope for the best.

Also, if I do well in AC, (win more than 2k) I'm going to take 4k to vegas to have fun w/ and do alot of grinding vs tourney fishies. My best game used to be live and I can still play a pretty sick live game and get into peoples heads well, so we'll see how that goes as well.

Hmm.. other than that, I'm up pretty good for this month, after cashing out recently and my recent quests that i've been on, i feel alot calmer now with poker and plan on not rushing through the limits to fast this time, and hopefully building a roll that will last me and continue to grow. I'm going to be moving up with 40bi to each new limit and moving back down if hit 35bi and rebuilding. Its a method alot of LP uses and I think it will do really well for me. Its been about a year since I've been rounding, Learning HU has taken along time, but now its very apparent that to win @ HU you need tons of cash and many virtues im still working on. I still feel confident hu, just see no reason to risk it anymore when I can take the for sure money multitabling fr.

Hmm..not much else to say, I'm going to be playing alot more when I get a nice AC / fan up here in my room to cool me down, but until then the sessions will be very short and few and far between.

I should just go buy an AC unit or a fan tomorrow, I probably will.

GL lp,

I'm out

Ryan

ps - i got the finest green

awegdfgag by shaw67193, June 08

gonna need a stake. if anybody wants to make a bit of money, pm me.
edit: more contact info
aim: shaw67193
msn: shiporgtfo@hotmail.com

i have two references, gawdawaful and MiPwnYa.

first stake with gawdawaful was a little casual, i got $500 to work with for about 3 months, gave him back the initial 500 a flat 700 or 750 (can't remember) when i was comfortable sending it.

second stake with MiPwnYa was 50/50 over 100k hands. he lent 1k, paid him back the initial stake +2k in about 5-6 weeks iirc.

so yeah. i'd like to get started asap, pm me and we can work out details. i'm looking for something around 1k, maybe more. i have a few more references from transfers and stuff, ask for a list.

oh, one last thing. usually i don't let myself play hu while on stakes, but this time i want to be able to play PLENTY of it. here's my graph from the last week of nl50 hu, around the time i believe i turned the corner and got pretty decent at it. graph doesn't include tonight where i lost a few buyins (mostly beats obv).
http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/1929/50nlhumay29jun7ew6.jpg

thats it i guess. pm me for more stats/graphs or if you'd like to work something out.
