1st day back at 100nl.... by Sloverville, July 01

Things couldnt have started out any worse for me today. For the first 2 hours i played so passive postflop it was embarrassing. I took a break to refocus and came back aggressive only to run KK into AA twice, and then this beauty + Show Spoiler +

. Before i knew it i was down $600 and felt fairly helpless. Another break, came back and finally started getting some breaks of my own n top of my hands holding up. Sooooo many regulars playing right now with the Double VPP promotion.

My immediate observations on 100nl 6-max compared to 50nl 6-max is the level of competition is somewhat identical. I think more players play back postflop in 3-bet pots. Here are a few more hands from today:

+ Show Spoiler +

Shitty winrate but all things considering, i'll take it. Grizzaph:

Oh yeah, hehe....

June by 21drful, July 01

June has been a good month for me. I’ve been grinding it up almost everyday, playing ABC poker at NL50. I think I’m well over rolled for NL100 so I'm going to move up starting tomorrow. I can’t wait to go to college in the fall which is going to be awesome. My stocks haven’t been doing that well but I did buy up a lot of Bidu you stock at its 52 week low and sold most of it yesterday which brought me a little bit above break even. As far as poker is I’m up 950 dollars with rakeback which is good for me, especially since I only play one table, can’t do more. Two is pushing it, lol. I appreciate all the help I’ve gotten in the forum via hand lists and low stakes forum. On a side note, I’ve been addicted to Bruce Springsteen the last few weeks. I’ve always been a fan but it’s gotten out of freaking control…well not really but he’s a great fucking artist. Another side note, I saw Obama at a rally in Raleigh, which was amazing I hope he wins. Anyways, I say good day!

Full Tilt TILT by vegable, July 01

This is so goddamned aggravating. In July there is an iron man mid year bonus, where your accumulated status from January - June gets you qualified for bonus money depending on your status earned every month. Well I was eligible for $200 in bonus money. In June I played just enough days to get bronze status.

http://smiteam.net/uploads/8102FTTILT.JPG

But came up short about 10 points two times in the last few days. So I emailed FTP support to see if they could do anything to award me my bonus money anyway.

  Hello dumb shmuck,

Thank you for contacting Full Tilt Poker Support.

Upon review of our records, I see that you were two days short of qualifying for the bronze level during the month of June.

Unfortunately, missing two days is a significant difference in qualifying for a level in the Iron Man Challenge. Therefore, I regret to inform you that we will be unable to adjust your status in the Iron Man Challenge for the month of June.

Having said that, I am pleased to see that you have already earned 68.9 Full Tilt Points on July 1 and are well on your way to qualifying for an Iron Man level this month.

If there's anything else we can help you with, please feel free to ask. Best of luck at the tables!

Regards,

Vanessa
Full Tilt Poker Support

I missed it by 20 points. TWENTY!!!! That's like fucking virtually $3 in rake. $3 in rake is grounds for losing $200? Such bullshit especially since I've been a loyal FTP player for so long. I'm one of the biggest advocates for FTP not being rigged but this bullshit negates all the bad beats I've suffered on stars. Nickel and diming pricks. Stars, here I come. Treat me like the princess I am.

got staked by whamm!, July 01

Well as I've said before I wanted to go move up to 200nl, and I was about to, then my good buddy lostaccount offered to stake me for some strange reason I agreed, honestly jay gives me luck everytime he does stake me, even when the stake doesnt do that well, I usually am very superstitious about these things so we agreed to a 150khand stake, sounds pretty grueling and time consuming I know, but I'm beginning to become a monster grinder lately and 7k hand days are ez so when stars gave this promotion of double vpps and fpps, I decided to warm up here at 100nl first and just whore the shit out of the points and practice playing a shitload of hands everyday for preparation wehn i do go to 200nl this 15th, I plan to just kill the fpps and get my 2k milestone bonus and onwards to the 3k, 4k etc etc. my roll is at MB at the moment but I'm definitely ready for the hardcore 200nl grind I'm about to start this 16th. 150k hands is ez if u play like this lol

Wimbledon Pics by matdon460, July 01

So I was in London this weekend, and I decided to go to Wimbledon. Here our my best photos.

Here's the queue to get in:

As soon as I got in I saw Lleyton Hewitt warming up

I managed a seat to Mario Ancic and Fernando Verdasco

He was up 2 sets so I left, but I got closer and took this pic

I was outside centre court while Federer and Hewitt were going into tiebreak and I saw a super close doubles match between Dlouhy and Daes and Parrot and Polasek.

That was the majority of good pictures I was able to take.
Here's my best picture of Henman Hill

I also almost ran into Petrova under one of the stands, and I also saw set point between Zheng and her competitor. All in all a great time in London.

June was great by Oddeye, July 01

This month I'm up 20k+3kRB+1kBonus, all from 6max. I just finished my maths and I'm done with school so I've bought a new computer on NCiX.com, I think it came out pretty cheap cause it's a really nice computer. Might have to buy a new fan for my processor to overclock it more.

So for the next month I'll be enjoying summer, working out a lot and playing tons of hands. It's quite likely that I cash out a good amount (50-60k) from UB and either buy a car or put it in savings.

Hope all of you run good.

Day 1 by Oxy, July 01

Hey all,

First, let's start off by looking at the hand I posted last time.

The hand isn't particularly difficult. Most of us agreed on a call. However, the very basic way in which Harrington analyses the hand is, I think, what many players (even good ones) fail to take the time to do.

Essentially, he breaks down the possible ranges:

1. a big pair (JJ-AA)
2. a set
3. a bluff

I think there's also a large possibility of A9s and 98s type hands, but no 2-pair hands.

Harrington goes on to ponder how likely each hand in the range is. He concludes that, in the case of a big pair, the hand was played pretty unusually: if villain had KK, for example, wouldn't he try for a more value-oriented line? The same reasoning goes for trips. He also proposes that under no circumstances should you ever consider the chances of a bluff being less than 10%.

I'm not sure I agree about the bluff part.

He then breaks down actual percentages: 50% for a big pair, 40% for a set, and 10% for bluffing.

Against a set, we are roughly 10%, so 0.1 * 0.4 = 0.04
Against another pair, we are roughly 90%, so 0.9 * 0.5 = 0.45
Say we're about 90% vs. a bluff, so 0.9 * 0.1 = 0.09

Putting it all together, we have 58% equity in the hand. Given we're getting about 3-2 odds, we should get it in here even if we expect him to have a set fairly often.

Harrington's explanation is much more detailed and in-depth, but this condensed version point out the important parts:

- Always analyze your odds before considering anything
- Always analyze villain's possible ranges, the likelyhood of those ranges, and a guesstimate of your equity in the hand

Now, on to today's performance.

4 11+1 turbos (180)
2 10+1 (180)
10+1 turbo
5+0.5 5k GTD
20+2 20k GTD
3R 25k GTD
8+0.8
3 5400 FPP sats

So far, I haven't cashed in any tournaments, except for a single seat in the 3 sats. I know I said I wouldn't play any 20$ tourneys until I had a 4k roll, but I felt pretty good about my game, and it was actually the tourney I ran deepest in. I was eliminated 199th, right on the bubble, when I pushed AQs against KJo SB vs BT. I think overall I played pretty well in the tournament, keeping generally solid and not giving too much a way. Some of my bluffs didn't work out, but I think they were good.

It seems I'm having most difficult in the 50/100 - 100/200 stage. I don't really know how to handle small PPs 33-77 in EP/MP on a small stack, whether or not to call all-ins, and generally how to accumulate chips. I think I've been rather card-dead over the past 50 tourneys or so, and I've definitely been getting sucked out on: I'd say I have won maybe 20% of the key all-ins, in which I've been ahead in most of the time. This is preventing me from getting the 15k+ stacks which I kind of need for the later game. I feel way more comfortable with like 60BBs and antes, where I know steals are profitable and I think given all the stuff I've been reading, I have a bigger edge.

I think most of my difficulty stems from the fact that I used to play SNGs about two years ago. Back then, they were pretty easy money. Tight was right in the early stages, and I wouldn't even take all-ins with QQ... Now, with the fishes I'm playing, I realize I have to loosen up my calling range and play more "big pot" hands like scs. I'm also going to have to take dozens of flips per tourney.

If anybody could help me with chip accumulation in the early/mid stages of the tourney (50/100 - 100/200), I'd appreciate it. If anyone wants to discuss tourney strategy, my MSN is o2xy@hotmail.com, and my AIM is AimIsTotallyCrap. Hit me up!

Cheers,

Michael

1st blog enry/Goal! by zooted420, July 01

Hello every1, this is my first blog entry and I am happy to be a new LP member. I have been playing poker for 4 years. I began playing in a home game, 1/2 NLHE and then began playing at a charity event. The charity event had everything from SNG's,Multi's, 1/2 NLHE 150 Max, to 2/5 NLHE 300 Max. As I first started playing, I didn't have a clue! lol, I remember playing like a nit and only playing my cards, not even thinking about what the other player's held, lol, so sad! The more I played, the more I learned and began to fall in love with the game. After playing in the home game for about 4 months, I started going to these charity events and played in the 40$ 10 handed sngs. They were very, very soft and I began to get more and more confident as I was having success. So my buddies who got me into poker were playing a ton that summer, at the events, in home games, and some of em were playing online. I asked one of my friends to transfer me some cash on stars for cash in hand. I asked him to give me 25$, that didn't go so well and I went broke. I asked him for another transfer and turned the 50$ he transferred me into 600$, cashed out 500$ cause that was such a large amount of money to me and played with the other 100$. I felt like I was the best, lol, but I really wasn't. I ended up losing the 100$ I left on. Once I got my cashout, I quickly deposited 50$ and planned to grind it up in the cash games and sngs. I ended up losing it and got to thinking what a lot of ppl do when they lose, it's rigged! lol I stopped playing online for a few months, but continued to play and do well in the live games. After the next deposit, I continued to lose and redeposit a lot, losing about 800$ within 6 months, making 50$ deposits. So I stopped playing and said I would never play again. Yeah right...lol. I ended up depositing 50$ of my hard earned money from working stock at a jewel. I quickly lost it. I began to read some poker books and this is when I began to have success, I deposited 300$ of my hard earned money, lol, and began playing .5/.10 NLHE 6 max, 4 tabling. I ran up the 300$ into 1800$ within 3 weeks, ofcourse not going by bankroll manegament though. I was playing NL50 to 50$ sngs, running hot. I cashed out everything and began to play at the casino, 1/2 NLHE, 200 max. This was a year and a half ago. Since then I have been playing a ton of live and making small deposits onto stars, running it up to over a grand at least 5 times, but only cashing out twice, once for 2200 and the other for 1900. I don't know why I would never leave anything on there, once I hit big, I guess I jus never intended to play online for income. Instead I have been playing live at casino and charity events. So today I am going to set a goal and try to turn my $50 deposit into a good sum, but with bankroll management and only playing sngs. I am going to play with 30 buyins for each level, beginning at the bottom. My goal is to go from 1$ sngs to 50$ sngs within a month, I will also play some multi's to try to hit big, but within my bankroll. So that's it for now, I will be updating this blog frequently, wish me luck!
GL everyone!

Strip poker......sucks by T8Suited, July 01

Strip poker sounds horny, but it's not my thing. At least IMO not a good way to start romance, because even after the strip my mind is still full of poker.

Or maybe because I always end up losing as I a) run really bad and 2) always do retarded things?

So earlier tonight me and Arielle decided to play some SNG style strip poker. Just a few hands in I called preflop with T3, b3b-pushed a KQ9r flop, she snapped with KK and turned quads, gg.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3109/2628726288_8a47d6e2fc.jpg
http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3093/2627907749_9ec4e562db.jpg?v=0

A few hands later I LRAI preflop with A4 sooted. Arielle called with QQ, and no help for me. Byebye pants.

Last memorable hand we saw a limped flop of 732r. I b3b all-in with 54, she snapped with J7 top pair, but I turned the wheel.

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3145/2627910801_55301404f4.jpg?v=0

But we were about to go out and meet friends anyways so not much developed.

Around midnight I made almost 4 buyins in 200 hands of 100NL 6max. No skills required -- just run good.

http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/475708 A8c dream flop vs 2 good players, best hand held
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/475707 KQc RR pot dream flop didn't know opponent was this bad
http://www.liquidpoker.net/h/475704 AA needed a suckout at the end but I was way too committed to do anything else

Pretty good day.

BTW what if I had won a few more strip poker games?
Ans: There would be no blog

I'm a bastard? by Cro)Deadman, July 01

Lets start with poker for those who have no interest in my life stories...

http://img399.imageshack.us/img399/962/graphpj9.png

http://img365.imageshack.us/img365/2615/statsbx1.png

So as you can see I obviously own at poker, those are FR stars for basically 2 months cuz I played two weeks one month and two weeks last month.

Moving on to life...If you remember when I blogged up about hooking up with a 16 yr old chick,I did and so did my two other friends...We fucked her then blew her off lol e-z life.

And this other friend of hers which looks like some B rated porn actress is actually stalking me,sick shit I swear.I blew her off like 10 times so far telling her that there is no chance in hell that we'll be together, yet she insists even after calling me a heartless bastard in front of like 10-12 of my friends in a bar we go get shitfaced before we go out on Friday nights...Pretty lol,I was amused.

Lately I've been just pulling all kinda shit and I am amazed noone picked up on it,nailed a girlfriend of my friend, the guy knows about it but he just doesn't care,we even make jokes on the topic...God I love summer.

My life looks like this Poker => Coffee => Beach,Beer & Picigin (Picigin is a Croatian water "sport") => getting wrecked at night on the beach and swimming again.

So overall its pretty cool, also spending less money nowdays then I used to (only 500$ a month) which is a fucking joke to me cuz I usually spend 1.5k or even more.

Now im on a Poker mission of getting to NL100 with 50 buyins and so far so good,NL50 regs are fucking terrible and easy to exploit, they all play 12/9/3 or 10/7/5 and just plainly suck.

On the weight losing topic I haven't basically lost none, but chicks say im cute so who gives a flying fuck bout the weight (im 191cm tall and 93kg's fat) but im also bulky (gym and shit) so its not as horrible as I maybe make it sound.

Shoutouts to Radiohead,Erling,Myth,Lachlan,PPluS,Dusty,Lachlan,Nolan etc.

Later people and remember...Beer is the new Black.
