FTP layout tilts me
  blackjacki2, Jul 21 2009

Does anyone else find FTP user interface to be extremely inferior to pokerstars? Why do they need so much room for the background. As a result the cards, and pot, bet ammounts are smaller. Then when you tile table you have to strain your eyes just to see the shit even with 4 color deck and simple cards.

Is there anyway to alter the UI to make it more like pokerstars? =[

Morons giving themselves bad beats
  blackjacki2, Jul 20 2009

So last Saturday the poker room near me was running a promotion where they give away $500 every half hour to the first person to win a hand with pocket aces. The rules were:

1. Hand must go to showdown
2. There must be at least $10 in the pot

My concern was that if people got aces they would tank for a few minutes if the half hour was about to roll over and then flip their cards up.

That is exactly what happened when someone got pocket aces at my table. It went check/check to the river and he tanked for 2 minutes until the clock hit 2:00 and then flipped over pocket aces. Unfortunately for the poor sap it went check/check on all streets and there was only $4 from blinds in the pot so he didn't get jack.

After that they did the OBVIOUS thing and announced that the hand had to be dealt after they announced it to keep people from tanking with aces.

After we left for the day to play a home game I told my friends the story and they had a story of another moron. He got pocket aces and flopped a set. Instead of checking it down to the river and collecting $500, he decided to bet it and everyone folded to him. Of course he showed his monster flop which made everyone at the table ridicule him for being a moron for the rest of the day.

I didn't get the aces but I was up $200 on the day from all the stations/fish that promotions like that bring in. An elderly lady at my table was the biggest station I had ever seen. She called down a bet on the river and turned over 8 high.

Asking to see losing hand
  blackjacki2, Jul 12 2009

The poker room near me has it in the rules that the winner of a hand at showdown can ask to see the loser's hand. Is asking to see their hand just for information bad form? Would you ever do it just for information?

Yes I'm asking because a couple people did it last night. One guy sat down with a super small stack and on his first hand he gets it all in with AQ on Q high board and asks to see his opponent's mucked hand which was Q9.

[H]Cashing out for savings
  blackjacki2, Jun 27 2009

I'm looking for some input on your guys's cashing out practices. Currently I have about $2600 (52 buyins). I don't need the money atm and I don't have anything I want to buy but I'd like to take some money out for savings for a couple reasons. Most importantly because I want to have some real "profit" from poker. I still want to move up in stakes as well and I don't want to use all of my money to judge my bankroll management because eventually I will move up and go on a downswing and I'm screwed.

Is there anyone here that has cashed out money when they still weren't satisfied with the stakes they were playing and wanted to move up? I'm thinking something along the lines of cashing out 50% of my winnings and using the other 50% to build my bankroll to move up in stakes. Any advice is appreciated.

What are the odds..
  blackjacki2, Jun 21 2009

I just did a pokerstars freeroll turbo flipament with a WoW guildie that has never played poker before. Out of 16,000 people, my guildie came in 18th and I came in 8th Lol. I think the odds of us both making the final table are greater than a billion to one.

Running like God in 5 card draw
  blackjacki2, Jun 14 2009

So in the live poker game we play, I always run like God in 5 card draw. Every week we play I always get dealt at least a straight or a flush, and sometimes more than 1 per night. I actually stand pat 3-4 times per night in 5card draw, half the time with the nuts and half the time with air just to keep them suspicious. It's basically to the point where anytime I even consider playing a hand in 5card draw everyone says "Chris is going to do that stand pat shit again." This is a dealers choice game with 6 different games to choose from, so we play maybe 30 hands of 5card over the entire night. Tonight I ran amazingly well

Here are some of the hands I got tonight:

- 56789 dealt to me

- JJJTT dealt to me

- AA dealt to me, catching TTT for a boat on the draw

- AAA dealt to me

- 99 dealt to me, catching 9 on the draw

- 99 dealt to me, catching 9 on the draw

- 5566 dealt to me, catching 6 on the draw.

- JJ dealt to me, catching J on the draw.

- 4 to a flush dealt to me (3 times actually, only hit it once)

Basically we played it once per go around and over the course of the night I got 3 boats, a straight, a flush, 4 trips.

We also had another hand where one guy was dealt 34567 and another was dealt 6789T, probably pretty rare for a 5 handed game

June
  blackjacki2, Jun 09 2009

Is it considered running hot or running cold if I flop the nut boat 10 times in 30 minutes but get 2 outtered in half of them? Cause at first you think you're running godly cause how many times can that K55 flop show up when you're holding KK? But then it's like, how many aces are in the deck that one always hits the turn? I guess it depends on the +/- of your bankroll and I'm breakeven so I guess I'm not running hot or cold.

poker riddle(omaha)
  blackjacki2, Jun 08 2009

What's the highest percent favorite a "drawing" hand can be at any point in the hand.

I don't know what the answer is, I'm just curious and wanna see what people can come up with. Maybe some kind of wrap + flush draw on the flop, or maybe a double open-end straight flush draw + 4 overs on the turn. Opponent probably having something like 2233.

May Results
  blackjacki2, May 31 2009

I didn't really make any "goals" at the start of the month so this will probably be a rambling

Actually my only real goal for the month was to unlock silverstar

Started the month with about $550 in a slump at PLO10. Got out of the slump and moved up to PLO25 at around $750. Broke the $1k milestone about 2 weeks ago. Went on a $600 rush over 3 days immediately after that. Kind of bobbled around $1600 for the last 2 weeks. Hit silverstar and became more aware of the bonsues for pokerstars VIP and decided I could go for gold star to get into the end of the month freeroll as well as get the FPP for the $1M Porsche tournament. Ended up cashing in both for $208 and $180 respectively, which I am completely satisfied with since I don't even play hold'em and I've never played a MTT tourney that has had cash prizes.

I finished the month with $2k+, learned to 6table PLO with success, took some shots at PLO50, played at a live card room for the first time and won for a total of $160 live poker winnings on the month. Overall a pretty solid month.

Next month I will try for Platinum star, to move up to PLO50, 2 x bankroll, and maybe try out FTP.
