January 2010
  Uptown, Jan 29 2010

As I said in my previous blog, I have switched to PLO.
I just really enjoy learning PLO, whereas NLHE has become a grind for me.

Played 25plo and moved up to 50plo.
Running good but also confident that I beat these games consistently.
(Swings can be pretty ridiculous though as you all know )

Sucks that Rushpoker has made the games harder on FTP, but hey it's good practice!

I had "1K month" in the back of my mind for the last week so it's really quite awesome that I hit my pseudogoal the last day of the month (gone for the next few days).

1 year of NLHE
  Uptown, Jan 22 2010

Haven't played since November, which puts my playing time to roughly one year.

Unfortunately I no longer have the time to commit to improving my game, which has really sucked the joy out of the game since the improvement process was what really had me hooked. I have to be grateful that I have a job that allows me to be (hopefully) financially secure, even though the hours are truly brutal.

I managed to go from NL2 to NL100 when I was 100% committed to learning the game, so I can take this fact, and the few K I managed to rakeback pro .

Lost most of my gains towards the end as I started sucking and running bad as well, and it definitely helped that I managed to bink LP fantasy baseball

I still love the game, but I'm convinced it's the right thing to do.

Goodluck everyone! Wishing you the best~

October
  Uptown, Oct 03 2009

Short Summary of September:

Not enough hours, not enough hands, being owned IRL overall. Played mainly 2-3 tables all month in order to really focus on my game.

NLHE (nl25-100)
~ +$500
~ 43 hours
~ 9k hands

PLO (10-25)
~ +$500
? hands
? hours

August was 45k hands, -$2800, 120 hours so I'll definitely take september, thanks.

incl rb and I'm probably +1200 for sept,,but w/e. Making progress is encouraging and exciting. Improving steadily, just need to somehow find the daily routine that allows me to play 1-2 hours of poker a day on weekdays and I'm good X_X

October I really want to stop being distracted by PLO and get back to playing 1 session every day for 1-2 hours really focused 4 tabling. No other goals other than playing consistently every day and working with my coach on a regular basis. I need to play more to get more hands on regs so that I can continue to play better based on opponent reads/stats.

quick thought about microstakes plo
  Uptown, Sep 13 2009

would you say that the most important aspect of the game is to find a very easily accessible fold button?

education
  Uptown, Sep 05 2009

http://knowledge.wharton.upenn.edu/article.cfm?articleid=2320#

"I think it is only through education that we can eradicate poverty. We can eliminate diseases. If we invest now in education the world will be a much better place for our children and grandchildren. And actually it costs less. If we wait until the problem arises and we try to solve it, then it is too big. The cost would be much higher. If we invest in education in a third-world country in particular and also where there's lack of education, lack of health care, they will be able to culture themselves. They will be able to protect the environment. It will also create new markets [which] will sustain the economic development and growth all over the world. But the world has to realize that together we can do many things. And we all are affected. We all should be concerned. That's why we invest in education here and that's why I think the quality of life, the sustainability of our growth and economic development, will solely depend on human resources in education."

no more whining
  Uptown, Aug 24 2009

Fuck whining, been doing that enough over the last 2 weeks. Maybe I'll go back into whining mode next month, but no more of this shit for now. Time to fucking man up and play like how I know how to.

Thanks for everyone's support in my previous posts, I'll be taking the advice to heart as I conjure up the discipline to rid myself of the terrible habits I've developed over this downswing.

Cheers,
-Uptown.

P.S. - I vow to play with un-Ansky-like poster (ie proper posture)

how do I win again?
  Uptown, Aug 23 2009

I have no idea anymore.

2300bbs under EV, and that discounts the 2 outers etc that I've been running into (after putting in 70% of stack) seeming nonstop either...

how does it feel...
  Uptown, Aug 20 2009

to win?

... this isn't really even a whine post (though it can easily be interpreted as one). I was @ work yesterday thinking about some poker, when it dawned on me that I seriously could not recall how it felt to win... at all. I gave it like a good 10 minutes, to no avail. I jsut can't seem to conjure up what it felt like to win, and to be a winner...

It's actually pretty frightening... especially because I am positive it affects a lot of my postflop decisions...

epic month
  Uptown, Aug 18 2009

Mindnumbing ~__~.

Def the most devastating month I've had in term of bbs and $$, though I guess I've lost a higher %age of my BR when I was playing nl5...

The sea's getting real choppy around where I'm at~
