Profitability sessions
  NeillyJQ, Jan 21 2009

As stated in my recent blog, I've been playing SnG's, mostly HU SnG's and some of the double or nothings

(SG-Hattan from SC told me to give them a shot, followed his advice and did well)

So I've played 3 sessions so far

This is roughly 4.5 hrs of play

I accidently joined a PLO hu SnG and lost, so i joined another and won it to be even in that aspect (except THE RAKE got me for like .50)

Strategy

Double/Nothin - get chips n go into LDP
HU SnG's - just play your normal HU game

1/20/09

$5 double or nothings - avg session 8 - 14 games

Session 1 : 90min Profit $31 $5.40 Double or Nothing (non turbo)

Session 2 : 1hr Profit $4 $5.40 Double or Nothing (turbo)

HU SNG's - avg session 14 - 40 games

session 1 : 90 min Profit $20 $11 HU SnG's (turbos)
session 2 : 60 min Profit $70 $11/$23 HU SnG's (turbos)

http://www.liquidpoker.net/hand/hand.php?hand=613770

$126 in my first 2 days, 5 hours played, at my first days at this, I think this is way better than playing cash, that would probably take me 11 hrs to grind out on NL10. Therefore, I will continue to grind HU SnG's mainly and play some NL25 FR or double or nothings when I wanna just chill and kick it down a gear.

I also tried a couple midlimit ones to see the competetion difference which was really, really simple, most the players through each limit on HU SnG's that I've tried are not even comparable to a 1bb/100 winner at NL50 HU

All in all, I'm very happy with how the HU SnG's are, since you rarely play the same person over and over, which keeps my ego at bay and allows me to just play my A game

Also, if you lose the game, the worst that happens is 1bi loss, instead of getting deeper and deeper against a player you may not have an edge vs, or a player that may be running in god mode

The double or nothing SnG's are very profitable and i reccomend them to anyone who can intellectually think through SnG's, I pulled 8bi profit my first run of 12 of them, 2nd run I ran into alot of big hands and didn't do to well though, just a small profit

So, I'm going to do more sessions of the $5 double or nothings to find what kind of roi I can expect in the long run, after I have 5-6 full sessions put in, then I'll decide if they are as profitable if not more profitable than SnG's / micro stakes cash

I like the Double/Nothins because its very very hard to lose itlr* as long as you can win 52% of your games which is really easy imo

HU SnG's are turning out to be the easiest games I've ever played, I would be up a 100-200 but I've been sucked out on a ton in my first session (getting ppl down to 300 chips and them coming back with random trash - happened like 4 times) (and losing ai pf's at 50/100 A9 vs A4 etc) - no worries though, variance swings both ways

Its all good though, I'll give them another go tonight or tomorrow or sometime soon and keep LP posted on whats going on, I'm considering switching to HU SnG's permanantly with a mix of MTT's (since they are the same format, and while in MTT's, it will encourage me to keep grinding SnG's)

Obviously in the beginning while my roll is under 1k, I can't play many big MTT's, but I'll get in the 3rebuy and some $2 - $8.80 tournaments often and slam one out soon

for now im gonna go relax, get high and eat, on a really wacky sleep schedule

I'm enjoying these game selections very much, although idk if the double or nothings will be around for a long time or not, but I do know the HU SnG players are just terrible and I can dominate all the way up.

I'd like to build my roll up enough where I can play HU SnGs on one monitor and some MTT's on the other

This by no means, means that I'm quitting cashgames, because obviously thats not even close to the scenario, but I definitaley have 0% drive to play HU cash now and see it as -ev except for a few scenarios where I find it to be profitable.

What it does mean is that I hate grinding microstakes, I have tilt issues in cashgames from time to time (avg 1/8 days I tilt like a monkey and spew a ton of money)

I set a new stop loss that I can actually follow instead of overlooking

(10 buy-ins for cash)
(16 buy-ins for SnG) - more for sng's since usually have many running, and u can't really quit in the middle of a session with 6 tables still up

To finish this off, I've always been a tourney player, no matter how u look at it, its been my bread and butter, and its where I don't get rolled.

About 2 years ago rekrul said it right, "tourney donks luckbox big wins then go spew it at mid/high limits"

Well, I fullfilled that proficy for years, and believe me, it was something that ego drove me to do, there was no logic or thoughts from the heart while taking these ridiculous endeavors.

I'll be playing FR cashgames again soon as well when I'm looking for smaller sessions, although I think HU SnG's are going to be way more profitable itlr

OK, kinda baked and rambled on for a long time, just kinda thinking while I type, if you read it all then your a hero and you should probably reward yourself :-)

BR : 515.25

Edit : One of LP's 2/4 - 5/10 players (a good friend) offered me a $150 tournament stake for tournaments, I'm pretty sure I'll play these under my moms account so we can track them on OPR w/ no confusion.

tyatrnaisrfomnelliy - wonder if anyone can't read this on the first try

Ryan

*ldp = lockdown poker = don't play ANYTHING

Profitability Test
  NeillyJQ, Jan 19 2009

I've been on a semi-downswing lately but managed to win a 54 fpp tourney with 256 ppl in it today to recoop most of my recent loses (ticket for sunday warm up - sold it on LP for $208.55)

This got me thinking, where am I the most profitable and what should I spend this year on?

I have my guide for playing made, and intend to stick to it intently, but one game I don't have on there are HU SnG's.

I'm going to spend 1-2 days grinding them and see what kind of profit I make (start on the $6 level so I have a nice cushion)

my graphs from cash (just about beakeven) and my sharkscope both tell me to stay in the SnG arena, although I feel I'm able and capable to a long term winner in cash

So, anyone out there thats a HU SnG specialist, can you give me any advice / what bi/limit do you use for these games and whats the competetion like on the levels $6 - $200+, as well as any general advice for how players play differs from level to level would be nice
(when can i expect light 3betting/4betting,etc)

This is going to be a 2 day test, if I lose 100 which I think its highly unlikely since I've spent the last year playing HU for cash and MTT's which kinda mix perfectly for this, then I'll continue with mostly cashgames and some 45 man SnG's

If this succeeds then I'll cut out the 45 man sng's for the most part and stick to FR / HU SnG's (I got this idea from a recent blog someone posted on LP on how they are OWNING HU SnG's for thousands and they were fairly new to poker)

Thoughts?

NL10
  NeillyJQ, Jan 17 2009

Wasn't motivated at all to play today, but managed to find myself infront of the comp watching peachy at 100/200 so i opened 7 more tables and ran 6max for like 10 minutes

won around 5bi, some lp players sat and bluffed a few bucks to me, very much appreciated

::edit - A friend asked me if I wanted to play the $109 turbo at 2:45AM EST, he staked me 30/70 for it so you will see HH's from it, wish me luck ::

15th place $91 profit

gives me a $140 day, not bad at all and much more than I expected

my last deposit which was $50 on January 8th is now at $523.60, the profits are split from SnG's, NL2 and NL10 and this tournament

:: re edit - http://www.liquidpoker.net/hand/hand.php?hand=610154 ::
:: bought a $20 of some really good green with stars money - $503.60 ::

Football playoffs all day tomorrow, wanna stay blazed for the games

heres todays graph

$2.05, BALLA?
  NeillyJQ, Jan 16 2009

Lol, so I promised to post this no matter how embarassing or how how good it is, so heres the dirt!

Lifetime graph (idk if its true lifetime since i let it run overnight and PT3 was frozen when I woke up, but I assume 500k hands is roughly right for PS NLHE)

Best Graph! (obviously I demolished these limits when I was first taking shots at them lol) - at one point in 07 i lost around 7k at nl100, so -3k isn't too bad

And the Vice-Versa

(I haven't touched a lot of the most profitable games for myself in over a year because of HU and MTT'ing, alot of the stats for limits are from the first time i was working up the limits on stars (ie NL100 FR - i haven't played 1 hand of nl100 fr after my first run up the cashgame ladder))

So the obvious lesson here is br management, which I'm already addressing, pretty ridiculous to be a $2 winner in a couple years of playing on cash on stars, thats kinda mind-boggling to me, guess the tournament winnings are what was making me think I was up more than I was itlr, but still, 9k in 2 years is really bad...

Also, I've had the most success at 1/2 FR which is a plateau that I'd be extremely happy to reach and grind out itlr, the sample size is fairly small, but I know I can win there consistently throughout 2009, but hopefully make it to NL400 or so after that

This is a good reality check for me, ty k204 for getting me to get my HH's

and last but not least

LIFETIME GRAPH - for all the lifetime redline winners, now I just gotta get my green up some

(you can spot where I lost 10k in 30 hands and when I was playing different limits if you look close enough and have somewhat of a history of when I was playing here and there)

So, I'm up like $9,277 in two years of playing, averaging playing cashgames one out of two days and spending some times on tournaments

So after a couple years, I've just about broke even because my NL5K endeavors and NL1-2K endevours, etc, man if I wiped out those top 4 losing limits which I was always not rolled for, I'd be up 20k and who knows where I woulda took it, its ok though, I found the majority of my profitablility from FR and low limit HU, although I don't think I'll be playing much HU, I'll be playing a ton of FR and 6max

a lesson there as well, just sticking to br management, playing mostly fr/6max should get me back to low-mid limits in the next couple months, then IF/WHEN I play HU or Omaha, I will always play 1+ limits BELOW my regular limit, not above like the past

OK everyone, laugh all you want, I know its pretty pathetic, but I degened off a ton of money in the past, something I intend on never doing again, and theres no reason to not be honest with myself and the community, so here it is.

Ryan

NL10
  NeillyJQ, Jan 16 2009

NL10's FR has been nice, the low variance feels so good after a year of crazy variance play, i could get used to this nit ring lol

I consider myself a FR player again, I'll play PLO when the games are juicy and I'm in the mood to player higher variance, but not anytime in the near future. (want atleast 60bi for PLO, don't want a 10-40bi DS to put me on supermegatilt when I can easily avoid the game until I'm sufficiently rolled for it, its not even that fun or much more profitable, as well as my PT can't track it), 18-max tabling is also fun, way less marginal situations

:: edit :: I'm going to treat omaha the same as HU and only play 1 limit lower than my current limit, changing my guide now to re-inforce later, the variance has beaten me down and I will not allow it again.

The only downfall is i'm havin motivation problems since i'm on nl10...its kinda hard to sit and put in a good 5+ hour session, my last 3 sessions add up to like 3-4 hrs

so heres my chart of nl10 so far, mind you i'm playing 20+ tables 95% of the time so I avoid a few marginal situations here and there that I could potentially win more bb/100 more if I were playing less tables, but max tables is way more profitable obv

I'm also gonna stress that I took off fast tables, and having pokerstars not fold aces cuz I took 2 seconds too long making a decision on another table, has really improved my play and comfort at the table.

I'm not playing fast tables anymore anywhere, I think its ridiculous and will only do it when there aren't enough games going on and I'll play less tables to make up for it and seperate the fast from the normal speed tables on different monitors.

OK heres my graph so far, played 4 days, 1 long session and a few 1-2 hour sessions

Redline winning @ NL10 is fun

I'm going to post graphs with my blogs for now instead of stats which were generally for my own purposes to see where I was playing on a day to day basis with the results I had.

K guys I'm off for the night,
Tomorrow I want to get a nice session in and close the gap to NL25

Ryan

Graphs
  NeillyJQ, Jan 13 2009

Ok, so I was berated for not having graphs posted from the nl5 session (80 bi in a week) - heres the graph

(this is 6max)

And heres the graph from this mornings session (1st session at NL10)

(this is FR)

For the record, I am not donking a fucking penny outside my roll, i only need to win around 50 bi on each limit for the next few limits to keep progressing, thats not TOO hard, I can definiated win 9bi a day on Micro if I put the appropriate amount of time in.

If anyone disagrees we can make a sidebet ($100) whether I can win 9 bi in a session, and u can use teamviewer to watch

btw I can play 20 hr sessions

Ryan

feels good

this session gives me a nice cushion to be on 30bi for nl10 tomorrow

hopefully i continue to run 5-15 bi a day at nl10 and get to nl25 in a few days (only need to win 45-50 bi before moving up)

THE RAKE! 2009 WINNING GUIDE
  NeillyJQ, Jan 13 2009

I wonder how an everyday persons reaction to the phrase :

Hows it feel to be raked to death?

I've come up with a few good responses I think I'd hear, what do you guys think?

so i set some serious goal for the year, have been doin well stickin to my rollio and have went from nl2 to nl10 in the past 6 days, well tomorrow will be my first day at nl10

im doing progressive br management, suggested by maynard who i had a conversation about, and found that its definately the way for me to go, theres no reason pissing around w/ 100 bi on nl2, i proved to myself last month i can do it when i started the 25k challenge when i won 80bi at nl5 in a week and was very comfortable doing so

after which i was kind of in a bind for money and did some degen shit that i later regretted, trying to net a big win before mid december for new years purposes, meh oh well, down 1k or so for december until i hit the casino(literally broke the record for biggest stack ever at 1/2 in Salamanca Casino in New York) (right on the border of PA and NY)

Finished Day 1 with $2950 in about 13 hrs of work, ALL AT 1/2 on a 200 Max Buy-IN table where most the table buys in with 60-150, hardly any good regs though, but some players that can definitely hold there own vs the other casino regs

I went back a few more days and mopped up too but nothing close to that day

Ok enough about that;

so heres my chart and what I plan to do for this year

I know this is gonna get mad hate, but i feel 100% that I will do this right, I recognize poker is now a business and degening around is just for fun when u have a ton of money, or at a tiny stake that won't hurt your roll

So hopefully by the end of the year you'll see me back in my prime, juicing the midlimits like I once cultivated the mindset to do, and who knows, i mean if wobbly can make it to crush 5/10 i can definitely do so, so we'll see where it goes

Lookin to go far, so heres my year goals and br management guild

2009 Yearly Goals and BR management

6MAX MTT SNG HU

NL2 til 180 (18 bi for NL5)
NL5 til 220 (22 bi for NL10)
NL10 til 625 (25 bi for nl25)
NL25 til 2000 (40 bi for nl50)
NL50 til 5000 (50 bi for nl100)
NL100 til 12,000 (60 bi for nl200)
NL200 til 40,000 (100 bi for NL400)
NL400 til 65,000 (109 bi for NL600)
NL600 til 105,000 (105 bi for NL1k)
NL1k til 225,000 (112.5 bi for NL2k)
NL2k til 550,000 (110 bi for NL5k)
NL5k til 2M (can play all games under 200/400)

(ive had suggestions that I dont have to wait until 2M, the most likely of scenarios)

HU & MTT's - Must have 100+ buy-ins

180 MAN SNG's - 200 BI
90 MAN SNG's - 125 BI
45 MAN SNG's - 75 BI

HU SNGS - 4-8 tabling

6.25 turbo - $190.00
11.5 turbo - $300.00
23.0 turbo - $840.00
$34.50 turbo - $1200.00
$57.50 turbo - $2000.00

(will move down if I hit the max bi for the level below)

6m + FR - 8-24 tables
HU - 2-8 tables
MTTs - up to 25 tables

Sundays 10% bankroll allowance if not staked that week

Avoid Fast tables (more time/more tables/more money)

Stop loss! use 90 min timed sessions or stop if losing 5 bi before 90 mins

When you reach the plateau for the new limit you can unlock the next limit in the stars limit restrictions, stay patient and continue to grind or take a break until the new limit is open and move up

Estimated NL200 reg by late April

Goal for DEC 31 2009 BR $147,525

So everyone, its a new year, a new start for me, I won a nice chunk over new years to help my situation and no longer have the stress that I had

Things are lookin good, starting nl10 tomorrow, need to win 45 bi at nl10 before I have 650 and go to NL25

So if you read through this, you see what im up to, and hopefully this can help out some players in need of direction, I've had tons of great players giving me direction lately and its done nothing but help me realize how theres tons of monkeys on stars and all poker sites just trying to pay my bills, i just have to let them and chill

I'd almost say that I think I've finally had a relevation or two

When I came back from xmas, i put 600 on and played tons of mtt's and dusted it, said FUCK that, IM SO SICK OF DEPOSITING, IM RUNNIN $100 more in MTTs to build it into something! So i did that, dusted it again.
At this point I was uber pissed, I've been pissin money around so much since learning HU and I fuckin refuse to do so anymore.

So I'm sittin there, after all the new years and payin back some debts and that 800$ blown in mtt's, my moneys been just about cut in half.

I say FUCK THIS, LAST TIME, ONLY $50, TURN IT INTO SOMETHING! I'm NEVER DEPOSITING AGAIN AFTER THIS, and the guide was made.

So hopefully sharing this with the community is a good idea and not a bad one, i've been thinking whether I should or should not for a few days now

Wish me luck and happy new years,
GL to all of LP as well,
Ryan
